Good Combat or Flying
I just want to see the resusts because I cant decide which one I would chose so I want to see which one you guys/girls chose.

It all depends on what other skills u\'r planning to have. For me, as a mage, I\'d choose flying.

flying for me as well. good combat will do you no good if your opponent id 50 feet above you :P unless of course they are skilled with archery.

Flying rocks: better to explore, to go in safe place then cast spell/arrows to opponents

if this is for planeshift, the only race that can fly is klyros, and that is only for a very short time.. i think all it will do is let you jump higher and prevent some falling damage. so if i had to choose between the crappy klyros flying skill, or a good combat skill i would choose combat.

On-Topic:
Axsyrus, you said the flying abilities of Klyros are crap because it don\'t last enough time. But do you imagine if you can climb to trees or rocks? A Klyros archer can just fly to the top on a unreachable place then send arrows to all the poor warriors that stay below. And you don\'t need much time to go on the top of a tree or a statue...

In this case the same argument applies. If you want to use distant attacks, flying is best. If you prefer hack\'n\'slash, good combat is better.
And if you are peaceful, you prefer flying so you can go from town to town without fighting (athough you probably need to be at high level for that)

yes, this is what i meant with jumping higher, but it\'s not like you can really fly with a klyros, just really short distances.

well, i don\'t think you can fight if your sitting on top of an animal, and he said the flying skill, not the animal riding skill..

Another note, elscouta: If you see more people then it is likely more people see you too. So climbing on a statue may give you greater range and visibility, but it also(yes!) makes you more vulnerable.

yes, standing on something high will only prevent close-range combat, it won\'t work against most spells or archery..

There is noflying skill, only riding animals. Anyway, I\'m sure it says somewhere that if a animal is trained really well it will be able to fight as well. And I see no reason why a bird can\'t hover while u blast somone with a fireball or summin.

Nightvision. Fly for short time. Breath underwater. Due to they nature they can\'t wear any kind of Heavy Armor.

Klyros flying is a special ability for klyros only. I didn\'t read anything that said that watcher was gonna be klyros. Also, that type of flying cannot be improved like a fighting skill. :D

Everyone is gonna go flying when it comes out. Im staying on the ground and gettin myself a bow and arrow. I\'m not gonna waste my time leveling up a flying skill when im a tank. Im a knight, knights dont need to fly. :D

Indeed but no all warriors are as good with every weapon. If they prefer melee combat, forcing them to use a crossbow will give you an advantage. Small maybe but an advantange all the same :)

Of course, as a mage, I will choose to be equal at both, so that I can cast spells while I\'m flying on my winged pet, and so I can kill stuff in close combat if I run out of mana. 8)

Why are people playing planeshit right now i really dont think it should be out this early if othing is really completed im not bad talking planeshift but its not ready to be played in my opinion its not another world we can live in yet ifwe do nothing but talk to others and walk around the game is pretty buggy and only 2 places exist on the world map. i think they should release it when its ready for playing since its very very very far from complete if they are gonna let people play it in this condition there is really no point in playing this mmorpg no story line to it either.
P.S. I didn\'t mean to offend the people that are deep into planeshift at this point

You\'re not offending anyone or anything, you\'re just asking a question which has been asked a lot of times before. Anyway, to the point. PlaneShift is a technical demo, available to show people what is going on so far, and to prove the devs are not just sitting on their butts and doing nothing. As for not being able to do anything in there, it\'s a matter of oppinions. Many people go there for hours every day, chatting, making friends, playing as a part of the community. They all keep eachother somewhat busy while waiting for something playable, and until then, they try and enjoy themselves.
Besides, noone is forcing you to play, or stick around. That\'s completely up to you. Saying the game is free doesn\'t necessarily mean the game is playable, complete or has nice people in it, it simply states that it doesn\'t cost anything to download. If you think you waste your time on downloading and playing PlaneShift, then by all means go find yourself something more interesting like EverQuest, or go for a walk. Noone is stopping you. Just remember, people here like what they have. They don\'t complain, and they don\'t need you complaining for them. :)

As many others, i shall choose to become an assasin/ mage/ martial artist. I like the darkness, and i would like people to land on my hiding place (with your flying skill) and I with my character orientated on fighting and quick one- shot blows would make quick work of your air-borne character. Just you all watch.
My character was a dragon once you know. Now the body is gone but te spirit lives in others, and I am becoming more and more evil as each day passes, its a curse. Right no i am neutral, soon I shall become ferocious as hell.

Uhh, as useful as temporary flight may be, I think I\'d choose combat.. perhaps later on development-wise I\'d use flight. Right now there is no real point, combat is more effective. When thieving abilities etc. come into the equation then flight would be handy.
So my two tria... Combat is the way to go.
Of course, to each his own.

Hmmm I\'m planning to make an Enkidukai Lathar/Azure Figher/Caster. I\'m also a bit more leaned toward stealth. Who\'s gonna fly in the big blue sky with hundreds of archers and spellcasters on the ground just waiting to shoot you down? :rolls eyes:
I would rather stay on the ground and hide amongst nature and pick out targets.
So yeah, good combat :)

Yeah. When we\'re bored us landlubbers can our free time skeet shooting. Interestingly anough those \'skeets\' are actually civillians.
Though, I think a lot of people will be flying.

i will prolly be a cleric type of charicatar with good spells and a big hammer.
now flight would be good for me and my spells but, i belive in the future i would be able to have someone teach me the flying skill anyway. so there for i belive if you can pick it up later you might as well start with the fighting skills to get a better start.

Any skill that will allow me to construct or do something that would be entertaining
IE:
Smithing
Mining (Need stuff for smithing you know... ;) )
Carpentry
Jewelers
etc
[And obviously because something that i need may be required to get to by force, combat skills as well. More in the area of polearms then anything else.]

Flying beats out combat everytime. And ranged beats out close combat anytime.
I would rather start out a mage, with a mount to fly on than start out with the BEST sword and armor the game will ever have. Without healing the best tank is short lived, but a mage outta reach is a true problem.

GOOD COMBAT cause if your oppontets in the air and you have good skills and aim witha crossbow or bow he/or she is dead
