What do you think of people creating multiple characters?
Is this a bad thing for the game?
If some one has several character\'s but intends on using each one in the full spirit of the game do you think that they should really just stick to one?
-
Crystal Blue will support multiple characters. As to how many, we haven\'t decided yet.

Exactly!
So unless you\'re always in the same guild or guildless, I can\'t support the idea.
-
I have to agree with lynx. Its way too easy to guild hop.
-
Yeah... cause NOBODY has alt e-mails or something they could create a second account with...
[EDIT]
OK, my sarcasm came out a little vague. Anyways, this turns into a legalization-of-marijuana style argument where one side feels like it should never be done and the other side feels like if we let it happen it won\'t happen as much. I am of the mindset that it will happen either way so we might as well support it to some limited extent and lose the false sense of security.

i think peope should have one character per email but it can join multiple guilds. when someone joins a guild it should appear somewhere
-
i think you should be able to make 3 or maybe 4 characters to every account but thats what I think :( . Some people just like trying different chars without having to waist more account names
-
I have to disagree with Evanchild on this one. I think handling characters in multiple guilds X, Y, ... is the source of conflicts.
Either the guilds are allied or friendly, and that should not cause *too many* problems, except decisions in guild X will be biased in favour of the guild Y and vice-versa. In any case, it will not reflect a true, logical decision process. Hence, it\'s not good for the gameplay.
Or the guilds aren\'t allied nor friendly, and this is the high way to gossip, spying and worse. Don\'t tell me a normal person (I mean the player) can handle mutliple characters this way without mixing them.
Anyway I don\'t see the point, better to take the time for one thing rather than spoiling it all over multiple contradictory characters spread over several guilds. That being said, I see no problem if the chars are in the same guild or guildless ;)
Oh and btw, some guilds don\'t accept characters owned by persons who already have in other guilds *hint*

I knew when i posted this that there would be problems with Guilds. I think that having more than one character in different Guilds is abusing this game feature and so cheating the game. I did say however
\"If some one has several character\'s but intends on using each one in the full spirit of the game\"
...meaning no guild spying and so on as that would not be in the spirit of the game. Rather what do you think of using one character, which you are able to adjust and change races anyway to having several characters of differrent types of race or profession etc. ?
-
People are weak. We can just make a rule \" use each character in the full spirit of the game\". If such things would be possible there\'d be world peace and happiness around the globe.
Well, metamorphosys would be a solution, but people could abuse that too.
-
Dexlan, I\'m sure nobody thought you told the opposite. That\'s exactly what I meant. I think using several characters in the way you described is possible and enjoyable for everyone, I\'m all for it ;) I just wanted to discuss that guild point.
Lynx, I agree it\'s not possible to constraint people too much, and anyway it would be boring, rules have to be somewhat loose for the whole system to work. We have to count on social pressure for that kind of abuse, like for some forms of cheating. That is, if we can count on the support of some kind of authority.
-
Yep. In my mind is the next problem: How many times can one polymorph?
If the number is definite and low, people would complain, after they used it to the limit. The usage should be done very carefully with much premeditation, but that\'s not your average player\'s MO. ;(
Elseif the number is definite and large, people would abuse it and polymorph almost whenever it would give them an edge.
Elseif the number is infite, worse than above. Shapeshifting would be a regular thing to do, pe. \"uf i can\'t reach it. I\'ll just make me a klyros.\" or \"man is it dark... converting to dermorian\"... aaaaa
So my conclusion would be that raceshifting should have a lot of penalties, so people wouldn\'t do it on a regular basis.
-
Metamorphosys or polymorphism ? Eeeek ! That wouldn\'t add any depth to the gameplay, and like you said, it would cancel any advantage of one race over the other.
First, do we speak about the same character that takes several appearances, or about several characters and an easy way to switch between them ? I suppose that\'s the latter Dexlan meant in the first place ?
I think the character context should entirely change, meaning the name too, they shouldn\'t have anything in common to help the player immersing easily. A sharp transition, that should ideally not happen too often, but that has be up to the player of course, one cannot rule that !
-
Several would be better, yes. With the guild thingie on, oc.
Rather what do you think of using one character, which you are able to adjust and change races anyway to having several characters of differrent types of race or profession etc. ?
See, he meant it all.
-
well, this is a free game, how will they stop people from making multiple accounts.. even worse, how are they going to stop people that offend the ps rules(botting, cheating etc.) if you delete the accounts they will just make new ones..
-
IP banning stuff?
-
what about people with dynamic IPs..
-
Ya, I know. But if one can trace it, if one knows the IP and has some authority, he can contact the service provider to pinpoint and \"lock-up\" the person. Like with crackers...

Tsk... racial slurs? :D :D :D j/k
Anyways, you\'re either going to restrict it too much and everyone\'s first character is going to be their last or too little and everyone will be everything. There\'s just too many debates that can go on over this subject for it to ever be solved. Can we just say multi-char players are frowned upon if they abuse it and let it be? ?(
-
NO.
I don\'t like the, bah...can\'t find the sinonime.
There\'s no way we players can know, if someone is double(or more) playing. This brings again the guild problem.
-
OK... but I\'ve *never* seen a game where this was effectively solved and I\'ve been on those where you were down right beaten day in and day out, ostracized from the community and verbally thrashed with both your primary and your secondary character if it was found out, and even in those games it sometimes becomes generally accepted. It\'s going to happen, it\'s nearly impossible to stop, and discussing it here till we\'re blue in the face ( :D 8) :P ) isn\'t going to stop anybody who\'s going to try from trying.
-
Well, maybe we can find a solution, who knows?
And if it wasn\'t fixed in other games this doesn\'t mean it will or won\'t be fixed here. :P
-
Don\'t get yer hopes up, but good luck anyhow :)
-
I dont think thers a problem with multiple accounts.
In most other mmorpg\'s you are not limited to one charater.
It adds a lil diference to the game coz playing only one \'class\' can become boring.
Its the same with guilds, you may choose to join all of your characters to a guild if you particularly like it but being part of two doesnt mean that your not trustworthy.
If for example i wanted to play two totaly diferent chars, with diferent allignments that would mean i couldnt join a guild.
This is a RPG and people can choose to RP diferently, as long as they are kept seperate chars thers no problem.
-
another idealization.

Maybe not, but it\'s a little as if you were playing white and black sides at the same time ;)
If find it too easy to be in several guilds at the same time. You can take the best part of each, and just ignore the problems because if it takes a bad turn, you can just leave your character and take another one.
I don\'t say that YOU would do that, but in the average, it will reduce the motivation of the players to strive for something in their guild. Besides, and especially if you disagree with the previous sentence, where do you find the time ?
-
or how about some sort of system where, if you switch to a different char, your other chars go into storage, and you can\'t switch back for say, a week realtime? just a thought
Jessyn
-
I\'m not sure, Jessyn. I think the time can depend on the circumstances. It really ought to be up to the player to judge when he/she has to switch. Some players are on a lot, others not. Some are afk a lot :D

IMO Yarulion is right.
