Title: Thanksgiving on PS
Post by: gogg on November 16, 2003, 07:48:15 pm
Even though Thanksgiving is a holiday celebrating the native americans helping us when we came to the new world that doesnt mean there cant be an all day feast in the tavern! I think it would be great if everyone just headed on over to the tavern on thanksgiving day to get your feast on!

Anyone second this?

Hmm... i don\'t know how many americans are here...

Because Thanksgiving means little to me (and to a lot of non-americans).

I\'m an american, and I know seen is, and evan is, and bushie is,  but I don\'t know about the rest of you.
I mean, what does Thanksgiving mean in Europe?
Also, they are busy with CB, arranging that will just delay the next release.

There seems to be a lot more people who are not americans around here...but who knows, venge is, maybe he\'ll do something :P

Me, I don\'t care, I\'ll be gone thanksgiving

I doubt any \'real world\' holidays would be celebrated in Yliakum.

If you were to have Thanksgiving in PS, it would not be fair to the rest of the world who don\'t celebrate it. Same goes for every other major annual holiday that people around the world celebrate in their own countries. There should be no favouritism.

Oh come now Moogie, it isn\'t like it\'s religous or anything.

Fine, can we have some other festival then? :)

Of course there will be, if I have any say in it! :D

...Which I don\'t. ;(

[Edit: didn\'t make sense]

we could just have a gathering for like a Fall Festival or sumthing on Thansgiving, and for americans it would be special to them and for non americans it could jsut be a place to hang out and meet new people and they wouldnt feel left out.

Meh, you\'re all forgetting that Thanksgiving\'s already over.  Oh yeah, you aren\'t Candian!  Oh well....   :D

But if the devs don\'t want to support holidays into the game that isn\'t going to stop players from doing something special on those days.  I think it would be kind of nice to have a little celebration for, say, Christmas, with any players who wanted to participate.  In my opinion it\'ll happen with or without the devs\' support.

Of course, the holidays could be renamed and worked into the RP of the game....  Just a thought..   :P

Canadians suck.

Thanksgiving is great for eating and drinking alot.

Christmas was better.

if you want to rename them, it\'s even better to create holydays from scratch. Because even called Yliakum\'s independancy day, a 25th December could still be bind to a real world event.

Well, that\'s kind of the point, isn\'t it?  It would be a way to celebrate the holiday in a RP context.

I\'m not saying I like the idea though. I\'d personally rather have the players organize whatever holidays they like, and have unique ingame holidays too.  That would be neat.   8)

And Canadians do NOT suck.

Wow Moogie, and here I thought you with all your \"Venge quotes\" would know what he has said many times, life isn\'t fair.

Thanksgiving is just the harvest Festival.  Most cultures have a Festival dealing with some harvest somewhere.  So I guess the question is is there going to be a harvest Festival for plain shift?

Yep, but Mogura is under 18.

Said by Vengeance on dev channel (+english mistakes by myself)
The problem with under 18 is that they always said \'that\'s not fair\'

YEAH it\'s time for Sinterklaas and maybe we can celebrate Pasen too :D

anyways, npc\'s can\'t give items yet and the rest of the world doesn\'t care about thanksgiving so i don\'t think you will see any activities in game..

I never ment it to be a celebration of thanksgiving... I just wanted a huge party in the tavern all day on thanksgiving...

I know at least one day that I\'m quite sure will be celebrated by everyone in PS - Newyears Eve. :D However, for all the other traditions that diffrent countries might have, I\'d suggest to keep them out of PlaneShift, and maybe try to invent some ingame traditions instead, like an annual \"Kill-The-Dragon Day\" or \"Day Of The Dead Lizards\". :)

Why dont we just celebrate the holiday that everyone knows of? The day where you give all your items to Milden, oh what a happy day that is for everyone =D

I am looking forward to see just how the RP content evolves... If there aren\'t arranged any \"festivals\" or \"holidays\" by the devs, then they won\'t be attended by the masses (which I believe are going to be non-rp\'ers or powergamers)
