Title: Will there be a monthly payment on this game?

Just curious to find out. On the final release of the game, will there be a mandatory monthly payment like most other MMORPGs?

ok, was just wondering. I had thought the beta would only be free. Usually with games as good as Planeshift is turning out to be, game creators become greedy and say, \"If you wanna play our great game, you gotta pay our demands.\" If it comes to not paying for Planeshift, then screw all the other MMORPGs you have to pay for!

Well, first of all, PlaneShift is an opensource game, with people working on it in their spare time. Other games have people working fulltime, who get paid for it.

PlaneShift depends on people\'s generosity when it comes to servers, and right now, Fragnetics runs the PS server quite free, and they look quite happy ( it\'s not like PS takes alot of bandwidth anyways :D ).

Besides, PlaneShift3D was creates as a free project, that has no specific deadline of the \"final release\", and since the project doesn\'t really cost anything, they won\'t demand anything except good and friendly players. :)

And that\'s why it\'s free. :)

of cpurse some day people ding free games will ask for donations/memberships to help them with their game expenses and stuff

Or large companies will slam giant banners against the walls of buildings in town to pay for hosting PS on their servers.

If you think like that, go play Runesscape, please. You can either accept that PlaneShift is free, or go bite a wooden log. It\'s your choice, so take it or leave it. Whining wont do you any good. :)

oooh, you have angered the lady....

but yeah, this does get annoying, people not understanding the concept of free anymore.  It\'s probably coz of spam.  saying everything is free with 5 small payments of $49.99  BAH!

I always wonder... will we able to keep it free once Planeshift matures and takes up a lot of bandwidth? Is there a long term strategy  ?(

There\'s always sponsorship... but let\'s keep those filthy gator/adware programs away as far as possible.
