Anyone knows any programs that would clear the RAM or even better, the VRAM? You know, to optimise it.

Why would you want that? That\'ll screw your system good. At every instant, since you boot up, the RAM and VRAM has stuff inside it the loss of which would crash your system. Take my advice the best way to keep Ram usage ultra low is to have the minimum number of persistent processes runnning. And don\'t bother about VRAM. It never has more stuff than you actually are seeing unless something graphics intensive is being run in which case it might have the secondary surfaces.

put RAM + optimization in a google search and good stuff might surface.:):tup:

If you speak about memory leak, there isn\'t really much to do, unless using good progs or bugging the dev teams ;)

Yeah, I guess I googled incorrectly. But ofcourse I don\'t want to clear the whole range! Just the empty parts and maybe those with expired dependancies or sth.

I hear you can actually buy memory managers (apparently the one that comes with Windows is very basic) that do all sorts of stuff. They\'re meant for coders, because it can give you all sorts of information about how much memory your program is using, how much it didn\'t release, etc.
I\'d bet with all those fancy features, they\'d have some kind of memory-clearing capability. Of course, I think the run around a couple thousand dollars...

bah, I can get surplus info from norton and sandra, but i\'d really like sth to clear it up... i tried some optimizers and they just *uuuuuuuslp*. Also, window$ seems to fail me even more, now even the whole memory gets low and stays there. X(
I must reinstall them. Someday. It\'s so comfortable...I don\'t wanna reinstall all those 100 progs and configure all again... gotta wait till the acid pours over the edge. ;)

I dont no the technical stuff about all of this...but if u find a solution i\'d like to try it out.
planeshift uses 63% of my RAM an when i get fed up of lag or w8ing to load i have 2 restart my PC to be able to use any other programme,cant even access folders or close msn or my dial up software coz my system becomes so unstable after i close it >.<
Even with an upgrade of RAM i\'d have probems with this coz i tend to open as many windows and programmes as possible so i can do lots of things at 1ce...gets realy annoying if i close lots of programmes to free up RAM and it has no effect.

Well there are programs out there that will just scan your memory for unused chunks (somehow) and free them up. However, most of these you have to pay for (some have 30-day trials or whatever).

As far as I think the only good and dependable soln to lag is to expand physical memory and get a good broadband. I used to lag like crazy but I put in a new 512 stick and I have tolerable gameplay with my 768 now. Also I have a good 64K connection. Also PS is not conducive to programs running in the background so its good to kill them.
BTW another thing I\'d like to point out is that programs installed on any system should be kept to the bare minimum but that just might be my 20GB HDD speaking:P:D.

Well it\'s not for lag, read windra\'s post, it\'s for after-PS. It\'s useless now anyway. I thought i made it work...but well, when i quit PS that means that the comp has frozen! ;) ;(
And i don\'t have lag...128K connection makes it through just fine. :D
It\'s my sad Radeon that makes things hard. Ah well, just gotta fix linux.
