I havent been on in a long while, but yeah, just wanted to say sum\'n...mission accomplished
-
Dude.
I\'m doing existantly, you?
Like, dude, all the oldbies are coming back. But not Gromin... *sigh*
Dude.
-
good to hear yah surviving, but i can\'t really remember were do I know you from?
-
an...what is this string theory...tell me more
-
Umm, you don\'t know me.
You probably joined before me, and at the begnning I never popped my head in these forums.
In fact, I have no idea who you are. I\'ve never heard of you. Ever.
And I don\'t know crap about string theory except the stuff in my sig.
Dude.
-
NO!
CM! How did you get away? I used super-glue!
-
oh..then wassup, my name is cmhitman, please educate me on this \"string theory\" sounds quantum-mechanical-ish.
yes kiern...I escaped from your evil love dungeon, you sick man; Just don\'t let your obsession with me drive you to kidnapping again.
-
I told you, I don\'t know crap about string theory.
I want Gromin back. Gromin was cool.
I mean, Annah came back (was he ever gone, or is it just me?), the princess and that DE dude came back, you came back, but where the hell is Gromin?
And quantum mechanics are easy. Not string theory though. It predicts a whole bunch of possible universes, so you end up having no idea whats going on.
-
*note: cedric only nodes in conversation with davis, giving him the impression that he\'s actualy listening, when in fact he\'s only waiting for his chance to ask about string theory again*
so...davis, about that string theory stuff, did you invent it?
oh...what do they base their predictions on?
and quantum mechs is conserned with predicting the chances of finding and electron in the atomic cloud ur sum\'n...
-
The point is that there isn\'t much you can predict with string theory.
And quantum stuff is used for subatomic particles, like electrons.
And I have read a lot about string theory, and the stuff in my sig is stuff that is one of the things that CAN be predicted, but I really don\'t know much about it.
-
you say dude alot
-
For about two minutes, yeah.
I was ghetto for like a week, too, but not much online.
And I was a geek for like 3 years.
-
Whoooooa the Hitman\'s back. Welcome back CM.
EDIT: DE dude Davis?
-
I rememeber you, but you probably don\'t remember me... you left about the time I started playing.
-
you people do realise that \"dude\" is a name for horses butt hair so davis has been insulting everyone on this thread :P :D :P
-
Wibble CM. (Yes, I have indeed been affected by the wibble)
I think you left shortly after I joined, so you wont remember me :)
EDIT: The love-dungeon sounds interesting.. tell me more.
-
String theory is interpreted diferently by diferent people, and theres no one correct verion of it.
I was watchin a few tv programmes bout it the other day and how its possible for gravity to \'leak\' beetween paralell dimentions...if thats what u wanna call them.
Acording to string theory or \'m\' theory we all live on membranes that fload through a dimention.
String theory doesnt acoumplish the real reson why it was thought up tho, you can go back past the \'big bang\' but in the end the equasions just dont make sense.
neways thats all ic an remember atm, i 4got alot of it i studied a while back.
-
The DE is a guild. not a person ;)
-
maybe by \"DE dude\" he means Aendar :P
tho he never really left, did he?
-
I didn\'t say DE, Aelya, I said DE dude. And yes, I mean Aeynder or whatever, how am I supposed to remember that guy\'s name?

everything I have ever beleived in...shattered ;(
-
It\'s not a hard name to remember is it? Aendar...five letters....oh well.
What\'s sad is I posted a few before him and I guess he\'s too blind to read?
-
You expect me to scroll down and read it? *gasp*
It\'s not like I have any particular interest in memorizing your name. And I was close, too.
OK, lemme practice...
Aendar... Aen... dar.... Aendar..
Ok, I think I got it.

what the hell do these scientists base there ideas on?
the big bang...lol
shit just exploded and here we are, makes no sense, I think the big bang and string theory is just some stuff real smart people with nothing constructive to do thought up to keep themselves busy.
-
What does make sense? Something had to start it. If the universe has always existed then where did it start? If you believe in God then where did he come from?
-
how the hell do i know? I\'m just a pond in the game of life.
just think for a sec. what ever created us is probable beyound our comprehension. there are just things in this life that we can\'t grasp (yet) and things we may never be able to understand. for example, do you think the ponds in a chess game are conscious of there existence? Not to say human beings are as simple as that but for however smart, addaptive we are; Just think, the system that allows for this must be ten times as such.
-
I just can\'t grasp infinity. I mean think of it. What was here before anything was here? I mean something had to just begin...but was there before that? Bah....
-
nothing is something, a paradox that is the basis of existence...or so i feel

Easy: Time didn\'t always exist. Infinity within time is hard to grasp, because its impossible.

If God created time, he didn\'t have to come from anywhere.

You just don\'t understand it. String theory does make sense (it just isn\'t very helpful). The big bang, however, is stupid. Modern science doesn\'t even confirm that the big bang is possible, what with quantum theory etc. We can\'t base our predictions on that.
-
there are so many theories, and not one of them provable, except for the discworld theory, as we\'re pretty suer that the world isn\'t flat, and there are no giant elephants or flying space turtles in out solar system. Pity.

String theory could be very helpful to unify the 4 fondamental forces of the universe: gravity, electromagnetism, nuclear strong and nuclear weak. You should give a look at this site: http://superstringtheory.com/ (http://superstringtheory.com/).
You think the big bang is stupid, but at least it provides an explanation about the beginning of the universe. And as I don\'t know any other theory, I\'ll stick with it until someone (way smarter than me) finds out something else.
-
Here\'s another site with about two dozen free streamable videos about string theory. I think it explains the theory pretty well:
http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/elegant/program.html (http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/elegant/program.html)
As for time and what came before time, it is mostly a realm of philosophy and religion. Human logic cannot always give us the answer to everything. How can the finite (us) truly *understand* the infinite? Can a fish living in the ocean understand the concept of outer space?
I mean, we use it a lot but can you actually imagine what infinite time and space is...
What about something that surpasses infinity as much as infinity surpasses the finite...
-
here\'s the scary thing. i can visualise that. my brain hurts, and no one wants to play 8 dimensional tic tac toe, now i\'m sad.

its funny, i love talking about this, but when math comes into play, it totaly turns me off.
its like i could do it...with a calculator and the instructions, its just it feels so ucky
-
Yeah, I\'m not a fan of math either. It really gets nasty once you bump into high level calculus and wavelet theory/transforms, fourier transforms, etc.
More a philosophy person myself.
