Title: those pesky intercats
Post by: kieba on November 29, 2003, 12:38:30 pm
I was just wondering, whats the deal with these cat people? They kinda scare me.

(not a bad thing)

Also I was wondering, if i live and thrive on this 56k internet connection (please, no mocking) will I still be able to enjoy the world of Plane Shift?

If you go look on the runescape website and look at their \"big update\", it doesnt even come close to plane shift. Im still in the \"dribbling on my keyboard whilst looking at the screenshots\" phase (the plane shift screenshots)

The bandwidth PlaneShift uses is minimal, thus you should be able to play it just fine on a 56k line.

Hello and welcome kieba :)
You should have no trouble playing it on 56k, or so I have been told. Downloading the game might take some time though.
And yes, I also find the cat-people a little...weird ;)

Welcome Kieba,

If you can download files at atleast 4.0kb/sec, you can probably play planeshift fine on your modem.

When I had mine it worked just as good as now (although the downloading was hell, around 2kb/sec)

So yeah, I don\'t know about later updates but now it is fine.
Title: thanx for ur help

You can\'t do much yet... but don\'t leave because of that, the next release is coming at the end of the year.
It\'s already better than r00nscape is, even with the update...

i have 56k, doesnt cause that much of a proble, only the ingame lag that has nothing to do with conection.

Dling was pretty easy, only took about 3 an a half hours overnight...the joys of using AOL.

Shaw! 8o How....dare....you....mention...those....slow.....pokes! :D

Literally though, shaw is really slow around here. Everyone says Cable is faster, but it seems to me DSL is equal or greater in speed. Too bad Telus goes down so often :D ...well, they do have atleast 98% uptime.

lol, i\'m not stupid.  I wouldn\'t leave a game with so much potential!!!

(cable beats dsl :P)

In crystal blue will there be a larger area to explore? i dont say that implying there isnt alot already because i got lost for a hole day in the dungeons under the temple...

this game is covered in bling!! :P

Kieba: Where do you live? Where I live DSL beats cable at about 5X speed.

Cheap Cable: 16kb/sec ~150kbps        ($36.95/mo - includes modem rental)
Cable: 60kb/sec, ~550kbps              ($54/mo canadian - includes modem rental)

Cheap DSL   170kb/sec ~1300kbps            ($16.95-36.95/mo canadian + $80 modem)
DSL:      280kb/sec ~2300 kbps          ($49.95/mo + $120 modem)
Expensive DSL:  480kb/sec ~3800kbps ($149.95/mo + $140 modem)

Someone I know a few towns away says they get speeds of 750kb/sec (~6000kbps) on cable......but not here :D

kramy, where do you live, i\'ve found that shaw and telus are about equal speed, with telus having a lot more downtime...

Telus is doing ok now, but for a while it was down every second day for a day.(like 60% uptime - now it\'s about 98%)

I live in BC on the island - In certain locations cable gets really plugged up. Mainly in towns with thousands of users :D

Anyway, Telus goes to booster stations, then I think via satelite to their servers on the main land, but can\'t be sure about the last part.

Oh crap, fatal error, got to restart windows.

Oooh, I read lots of posts about shaw cable there. Apparently it varies from location to location, but is anywhere from 90kb - 450kb.
