Are those huuuge downloads meant to be a hint that this is not for dial up? Or will it be very laggy...
-
You can still play the game on dial-up fine from what I\'ve heard. You\'ll just have to be very patient when downloading all the parts or have a friend with broadband that can burn a cd for you :)
Just to make sure you\'re not going to waste your time, you will need at least 256MB of RAM to run the current version as it uses a lot. Other than that, if your computer is not too old, it should be alright.
(There are no set system reqs, but the ram one is pretty much known to be a problem if less than that).

You can play on dial-up without problem, KTW. The bandwidth required for the game is not high. It will be laggy, but this is not because of the connection, we all have this little problem sometimes even on dsl. Hopefully it will be fixed soon.
But, on the other hand, be sure it\'s the game you want to play. At the moment, it\'s only a pre-alpha, which doesn\'t include fighting, skills and so on. So don\'t be disappointed by a huge download. If you ask me, I will tell you it\'s worth it, anyway, you can get to know the people and be comfortable with the game :)
In about one month, the next release will be available, with much more features in it. If you have to pay for your connection time, maybe you will want to consider waiting a little until the next version is out, though 5 hours or so shouldn\'t be that expensive.

Seriously a 5 hour download with dialup????

The game is about 90 MB. A V90 modem can download at about 5 KB/s. Do your maths, it\'s about 5 hours.
If you wonder about the price, some ISPs (in some countries) provide an unlimited connection for a monthly fee (including phone call).

90mb is actually pretty small for a MMORPG.
...Although apparently Crystal Blue is going to be double the size...

get a down load accelator
-
Unfortunately a download accelerator wont do anything for a modem.. there is only so much speed you can get using a 56K modem. It could help though if you need to pause and resume.
OT: Some of download accelerators are kinda funny dumb too.. they change the units to kilobits/s to make it look like its going a lot faster. :P

Like CNET - it gives me 240kilobits......slow, should be kilobytes :D
