I sometimes feel kinda sick when ive played games like planeshift for 45minutes+, i wonder why that comes? It happens with other 3d person view games too (only some, but not all), and it feels almost like car-sickness(like when you drive on a road with many corners etc, you get that.. or is that called Motion sickness?)
Anyway yeah, it sucks. Anyone else get this?
Oh and btw i couldnt descide if this were to go in the General or Off-Topic part, feel free to move it..
-
??? dude havent you ever read the manual of a game before? in the front it says if you have these symptoms to stop right away and that you might have an eptiliptic seizure! ever read on the news about little japanese kids watching thier anime and all of a sudden jerkin around into a drooling vegitable state? well that will happen to you if you keep it up. go see a doctor please...

Whemyfield, you don\'t know what epilepsy is. Or how to spell it right ;).
There is no connection between tummy problems and epilepsy.
Nope, I haven\'t got such an XP. Luckily.
I\'d still be cautious if I were you.
-
Dude i have tummy problems from games like that but now its only on really jumpy games. like a old game called x-squad omg *barf*
-
I\'ve done 18 hours non-stop without any problems. (mah record :D ) Maybe the jumpyness of some games makes u almost like having sea sickness? ?(
-
Ok, maybe i should slow down my jumping then rofl.. Nah, i seriously dunno, only some games causes this o.O Like daggerfall and morrowind did, but i.e. Q3, where there is ALOT of jumping, doesnt cause it lol.. It\'s always been this way o.O oh well, i guess maybe when i get sick i should go for some fresh air or something :)
Yeah and btw, hi, im new to the forums 8)

1. Turn on vsync
2. Find ways to increase your framerate
3. Put on highest quality settings in options
4. Disable FSAA
Those are a few thing\'s i\'ve found that can help subdue those problems with some people.
-
I experienced that problem when I played Serious Sam. That\'s really weird because it\'s the only FPS (and even 3D game) that made me sick. Maybe it was the refresh rate of the screen (only 60 Hz) coupled with something else, just an hypothesis though.
-
Arcala, how old are you? My mom says she gets the same thing, but my brother and I have never experienced it, so maybe it depends on whether you grow up with computers?
-
Ah, now that I think of it, my sister gets that problem. Maybe it\'s just how much time u spend on it? U might have to get used to some frame rates. I spend too much time on my PC, and from a very young age and I\'m fine. So maybe it\'s just that.
-
It seems quite possible that that is the reason. Now that I think about it, my Oma says she gets queezy from some commercials. She didn\'t grow up with TV, so maybe you just need your brain to have made the connections?
-
i\'ve heard of this problem before, i\'m not sure what causes it though. try changing the camera to 3rd person mode(press M), that makes it a lot less bouncy
-
Well, i\'m 15, and ive basically grown up with pc (spendt way too much time with it), pc games, console games etc, so it\'s not that.. o.O It might be that some frame rates takes some time to get used to, i dunno.. I mean, since only some games causes it. But, i\'ll try to play in third person mode and see if that helps.. Allthough, its kinda difficult to look for crystals then :) But anyway, thanks for the advice :)

It\'s the same reason for car-sickness. It\'s caused by conflicting signals from your eyes (which tell you you are moving) and your inner ear (which tells you you are stationary). In some people this conflicting information to your brain causes nausea. Any first person game can do it, and some are more prone to it than others.
-
Indeed, RonHiler is right. 1 in 3 people suffer from this queaziness in games with a First Person viewpoint. I myself can never play a FPS for more than 30 minutes at a time, and then need about an hour afterwards to recover. Thank god for the M key... :D
-
I have a sickness....i cant stop buying games...i buy one a week its weird
but i dont buy one if i dident finish the last one 3 or 4 times on different modes
and yet i am never in debet O_o
-
Interesting. Never heard of it. From anyone. I guess I\'m just un/lucky.
And I\'d never worry about FPSs. Almost nothing to miss. And if you\'re in 3rd view you see more and can admire you char(especially when equiped items will be seen).
-
What? Is this not a discussion on Planeshift?
Or is Mogura bent on confusing me?

well... not really :P
rather people troubles with FPS\'s
-
Yeah, I guess so, all the post moving makes me dizzy though...it\'s not like it really matters :O
-
The only time I got queasy playing FPS was when I played Wolfenstein 3d after 2 hours of Unreal Tournament 2003 (on Turbo + intagib mode). Maybe it has to do with problems adjusting to the new graphics or tiredness.
-
I occasionally get the queasy feeling too....and i only ever play in third person because i like to be able to see \"behind\" me as well as in front - useful for ambush situations etc etc. I believe it is still the motion-sickness thing tho because it only happens when i\'ve done a lot of running and jumping and stopping my character stops the queasiness.
-
Any one rember hertic ???
that game had a record of making ppl puke !!! ( i did and i dont feel good about it )
your nausea its something to do with the way we percive things some how it screws your mind (dont worry no harmful side effects :) )
if you keep playing (usually for some time) itll go away as you\'ll fraging
ok problem sloved
nutting to read here ppl move along move along ......

Kiern, to me the forum is a garden, and I\'m the gardener. :) I have to keep the garden looking pretty.
On Topic: I found this interesting post on a forum somewhere. Sounds promising. :)

Luckily, there\'s a new solution coming out. A headset that sends
electrical signals from behind your ears, which affects your sense
of balance. One reason is to prevent motion sickness or
vertigo. Also it\'s intended for some VR aspects.
But if you\'re a person who gets motion sick from the movement, it\'d
be possible to have some API that counters that effect in you :)\"
-
Better get one of those headsets, then.. ;) Thanks for all advice ^^
-
*thinks about being on DC* ?( Wouldn\'t it make you worse?
-
if this hasn\'t been tried, try turning up the frequensy of the screen or game to 75hz... that might help..
-
Savion\'s father can\'t play FPS or Racing games without feeling somewhat queazy after 1/2 an hour or so.

Games solve this by bobbing, letting the camera go up and down, in some cases (bad frames) it can make things worse :)
solution: go buy barf bags :)

I felt the Game-Sickness too. I felt it with Duke Nukem 3D and another jet flier game, don\'t remember the name. I had to quit it was getting so bad. I don\'t experience it anymore thankfully.
-
I am immune to it all. but yes, i know some people( my mother for one) who get nauseous just watching the screen for 30 seconds, with games like morrowind, undying, and others.

I\'ve known some people like that, what helped a bit was beng in a well lit room sat at a distance from the monitor (not on top of it), fresh air seemed to help to. Luckily I dont suffer from this.

awww... ;(
that is my favourite place to sit...
-
I for one suffer from uncontrolable widescreen eyes if i play for too long, I walk around n everything seems small, I cant look at a monitor and see only whats on the the monitor, i also see the sides of it and anything around it.
-
I never get anything like this. In fact, somehow I get fitter and stronger by sitting in fornt of my PC doing nothing all day. Either that, or everyone eles I know is getting puny. (Or it\'s those tablets which say steroid or summin on them that taste good. :P )

I have the exact same problem as you.
the cure is to put down 3dsmax for a week (or whatever you do when you don\'t play) and play games instead in a while you will get immune, but then when you haven\'t played for a week you\'ll get the same problem again.
cure: Play games :]
-
I get a head-ache when I play games(video games) in the car.

The only game to have ever given me really bad headaches etc.etc. was a 3D, 3rd Person game for the PS2 called Jack and Daxter (or something like that)
I beat the game pretty quickly but by the time it was over I had a horrible, pulsing headache - not sure why - and its never happened with anything else before
