i was wonderin if maybe instead of havin brand new weapons like in r00nshift where you have 9 different metal types for 9 types of weapns, we could have like a base sword we add stuff onto. have like a claymore type sword, long sword, dagger/shortsword, bow & arrow, wishing for whip, and anything else someone wants to add.
Then for those basic weapons there might be 3 different types of each weapon that are just different designs. like a curvy longsword instead of straight longsword. it doesnt do more damage just a differnt look, like real swords.
3rdly we could add little things on them like a crystal edge for more damage. then like wieght deduction like a hollow inside for faster attacks but a more brittle blade and maybe add spikes for more damage also. just little accesories to add and do more damage.
Then instead of having Rune Sword you could have sword with crystal edge and spikes. that would lead to some wicked looking swords and weapons.
PS cmon devs make a whip. it would be orignal and i have yet to see a successful MMORPG put a whip into the game... hehe whip it, whip it good, serve it up! :P
-
Ok i give the guy above a diamont for his original idea.
Trully a whip is something that ihavent seen yet in a good rpg ,always a sword or an axe or a pike.
-
Maby with axes and pikes, not swords.. I would like to be able to just switch my axe\'s blade to a posion or whaterver, adapting to the situation, instead of buy that super expensive tree stick that the axeblade shall be on :D
But as I sad, for axes and pikes, I would love to se that. Swords? Nah, I mean, \"Ohh,no! A mage! I have to switch to my poison blade!\", how realistic...

Whips are cool, but they are a pain to animate properly, and they look like crap unless you have some sort of motion trail effect. I think that\'s pry why you don\'t see them enough. Secret Of Mana had a whole class set of whip type weapons, could get some ideas from that if they did make whip weapons though.
Ummm but yeah this has been suggested in some form or another many times. My position is that all weapons are unique and designed indepdentley, the variety it potentially allows is much greater and more interesting.
-
I\'d also like to see proper names for swords instead of having the boring \'short sword +4\' for example.
-
well weapons will have info and then name like.
name Blade of mourning
type long sword
properties +7
descrition something with mourning
whips should also be for animal training and whips is not that hard to make just make the model and skin solid then animations should not be a problem.
-
Dark Age of Camelot has whips as a class only weapon for reavers.
-
would be cool if you could name weapons yourself
-
just give me the old combat gloves or any hand-worn weapon. Forget the bladed weapons...
-
cool. modular weapon construction...
A strong, wooden pole that\'s been sanded niceley and has good grips on either end for good bone-breaking potential... (blunt weapon) and when the situation changes a quick reach into the backpack to bring out the polearm blade for a quick construction of a fairly decent polearm (slashing weapon). detach the blade and you\'re back to a pole. same could be done to a staff; only the staff could infuse the blade or other attached part with it\'s powers. :D
I especially like the whole idea of using crystals or other metal edges to make the weapon sharper, hollowing the metal to make it lighter and faster though more brittle, etc. going on that theme you could enchant and place gems/crystals into a staff, but the staff could become explosive/volitile. 8o BLAM! right in your hand and you take 20 orcs with you. 2k exp gained, but lose it all on the way back to the living :P
kind of like finding a metal ball, taking it to a smithy to drill a hole into it and put a metal shaft onto it and you have a blunt mace. then you find these metal and crystal diamond shards ... 8) smashy-smashy with a blunt and peircing object!
excellent idea!
whips are a frikkin SWEET idea... you\'d have EVERY imaginable material put into making a whip. If you\'ve played Soul Calibur 2 and have played Ivy (meow! :D ) you\'d note that she has a whip/sword like weapon... maybe we could have simillar enchanted whips with metal blades on them. cast a spell and the blades detatch and fly into the enemy. zing. ;)
-
I would like to make a whip to submit it to the game devs as an animation, i am pretty good at that stuff :P
Honestly tho the whip anims arent that hard, and heres another idea if u havent already thought of it: make the weapon,armor,and magic models seperate from the character models completely.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~PROS~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
1. better looking characters and armor.
2. More unique character looks
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~CONS~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
1. takes more time to do.
2. possible armor glitches with characters glitching thru armor (unless you made specific armor for each race!

weeee i love the ideas people. thanks for the support too! finally i dont get heckled in my posts... but anyways i was thinking... and here are just about all the add ons that could be put on a weapon...
Base Weapon Integrity:
Weight Reduction +4 Attack Speed
Core Reinforcement (Copper, Iron Steel, *) +** Attack Strength According to Material.
Blade Modification:
Sharpen +2 Cut Attack Each Sharpening, and up to 5 sharpens for max effect. Sharpen every 5 battles or dulling of blade occurs.
Thin Blade +2 Peircing Attack Max Thining 5 times. More likely to break sword.
Add Spikes +1 Attack Strength
Blade Grafting (Copper, Iron, Steel, *) +** Attack Strength. Grafts material Into Weapons Blade for better attack.
Hilt Modification
Higher/Lower Hilt +2 Attack Strength/Attack Speed Depending on higher hilt or lower hilt the attack speed/strength is modified.
* Means any other special materials that will be in planeshift. There may be no copper, iron or steel, but even just unique planeshift materials
**Attack Strength depends on materials used.
Well thats just about it! Hope ya like it! :P

Perhaps these modifications would have to be made by a blacksmith/weaponsmith/insert-appropriate-smith-type-here ?
I like the idea of improvable weapons, or at least a very wide variety of weapons that can exist, without putting too much of a burden on the fabulous artists that we have :)

I have been playing tons of dif. mmorpg over the years and well these ideas sound great. I would just like to take an idea that i have seen in others games. IF we are to do customizable weapons (which whips and all that in this forum are great ideas). This idea should definitly be considered. The dif. town blacksmiths should have dif. attributes like some town blacksmiths are better a custamizing a certain type of weapon than another towns. yet also again price goes up on the weapon to customize it time after time. so if u sharpen your sword once it is more expensive the second time. unless it dulls then the price goes down again.
-
Oh yes i forgot to say anything about price... On things that can be added more than once price should go up. This includes the core wieght reduction in the weapon and shapening.. With sharpening i am considering that maybe the price should go up each time you sharpen it even if it does go dull because talk to any blade smith and they will tell you that sharpening a 5th time is way harder than the first ESPECIALLY when its way dull.
To counter the prices going up you should be able to craft a new blade and put it onto your weapon after the 10th time when it has become considerably more expensive to sharpen. So i am also proposing that the game have a very slight dulling effect on the sword. you should only have to sharpen every say 20 battles. that way 200 battles you buy a new blade. Seem fair? Really appriciate the imput!

I guess i c where your comin from whemmy but the but here is another suggestion u have to retip the blade w/ some metal so its shapening cost goes down. also u can use better metal which dulls slower and is sharper, BUT it cost more to sharpen so you can get a nice sharp metal but u have to becareful not to get a metal u can\'t offord to sharpen when its dull.

Actuallu a a craft system like Vangrand story would be great.
Every weapon had a customizable hilt and gem slots.
And also depending of what type of enemy the weapon was killing it was becaming stronger at that type while becoming less effective against other types of enemys.
an example of a sword that had killed many ghost type enemys whas less effective at dragon type enemys.
Also the system whas allowing at the right type of forge to melt 2 blades and create a better one and after attach the hilt.
Also the quality of the metal was making the blade very different.
a steel blade for a 2 hand sword was not as strong as an orihalkum blade.
-
Roadwolf i think that sounds like a pretty good idea but we\'ll have to see wat others think. There is much work to do on this subject so i hope we can turn this forum into a good weapon thread.
