ARG! I hate that stupid search function. It doesn\'t work
**COUGH**COUGH**
I have made up my full name, only to discover that I can have only a firstname. I would like to see this:
Firstname: Androgos
Alias: Andro
Lastname: Khanari
in the char creation screen..
-
Hmm, I\'d like to see something like that too. It gets tricky to pick a name when all the 1 word names have already been taken and you can\'t use any spaces or apostrophies. :P
-
I think we should have a gate keeper that checks each name that someone wishes to use.
(past related post: http://www.planeshift3d.com/wbboard/thread.php?threadid=4482&boardid=11&sid=74f01553101c0b05f7d791c051d5c3cc )

Yeah i like the idea of bein able to pick a last name as well as a first name. But i think after the third first name legolas last names would be confusing... you would have legolas A and legolas B and Legolas C so remembering someone\'s name would be a hell of a job. Not as hard as remembering legolas182 as it is to remember Legolas Shmeigalmeister...
-
I think devs will disallow to have names like \"Legolas\" :P
anyway, yea, that\'s always good idea ;)
-
yes! my idea for a second char has an unusual name, K\'twill Tak\'talamesh, so obviously, i want spaces and apostrophes(i can even spell it right)
Jessyn
-
hehe jessyn thats a mouth full but it looks like a very original and awesome name. But I\'ll Stick with Kixie Fars\'tien any day... Hehe i would say Kixie Starlight or something but i roleplay but im not a homosexual or anything... *regrets posting this*
-
Well, there\'s EQ\'s way, allowing lvl20+ to have surnames; I\'ve always rather fancied that; although that doesn\'t equate well to a skill-based system...
I don\'t think surnames should be used as part of a character\'s name, though; then we have many people running about quite possibly with the same first name, most confusing. And then take Jessyn\'s name for example, imagine having to type \"/tell K\'twill Tak\'talamesh\"...
For RP purposes, though, surnames would be great. Although I think I\'ll just go by \"Grakrim\" with no surname, as that fits in rather nicely with my backstory (Although I may be mistaken that its actually something I want to use; I was rather sleep-deprived when I wrote it).
-
how about that:
you normally see let\'s say \'Draklar Az\'randal\' :P
but to send PM you just use first name: \'/tell draklar\' better than no-surnames anyway :P
-
I like this idea! What about families?
Like Mordor Barnflame and Teodus Branflame.... that would mean they are in one family (not in RL). Too avoid problems you could give your surname to others in-game, after registration. :D

see draklar if someone was named Draklar Blah instead of draklar Az\'randal /draklar wouldnt work. no surnames are better.

*slaps his forehead*
following your way of thinking there wouldn\'t be same problem with let\'s say 3 Draklars (no surname) characters
my point is that it\'s better than no-surname because:
that wouldn\'t really change anything in communicating, still people couldn\'t have same first names (only same surnames)
-
but that wouldnt be right draklar. have you met one dan or one bill? of course not. you cant just have one first name for every person... That would be ridiculous!
Edit: if you want that draklar then you should just ask for spacing in your characters name and room for more characters so you could just have Draklar whatever as a first name or even a Draklar Blah Whatever.
Edit again: but really having that wouldnt even be right because there would be a long name you would have to type. Plus people we should be roleplaying! if you made a game of your life would you have the name Bill hovering over someones head or Bill Smith? This is a roleplaying game so if you want a last name roleplay one.
Edit Yet again: last one i promise, but the point im making is that you call people by thier first names in real life not thier whole names. if you dont you have something wrong with you. If you see people you dont blurt to Bill \"hey bill smith\" ya call him bill! So if you had a game in which everyone you knew was in it then Bill would be thier name not Bill Smith. Thats whats happening in game. this is supposed to be a game of your characters life! so roleplay people! :P

geez...
*sigh* yer slow... from start:
let\'s say at char creatin there would be 2 spaces to fill in: name and surname
only name would be used to communicate (/tell \'name\'), notice that it is exactly same as no-surname system
While you\'d be seeing one\'s surname when displaying his name or something.
that\'s why it would be better than no-surname one - it wouldn\'t change anything, just add display of surnames
-
Even now with the no-surname system people will cut short names.
If i am in the game as Dexlan when players communicate to me they would often use just Dex, which is cool with me and works fine in roleplaying as it\'s true to life.
:P

It should be easy to solve this. I say easy because it\'s really nothing in c++, but I\'m not sure if there is already too much overhead in this thing that making the modification is more trouble than it seems.
Anyway, make it so that the space character can be used in the name (while (!eof){...} or cin.getline(bla,size)).... Or make it so that whenever you enter a space, the software will instead write an underscore.
For example, \"Bob_Smith.\"
-
We will have surnames eventually but it simply isn\'t a high priority.
-
Good, but like I sad in the first post:
Name: Androgos
Alias: Andro
Surname: Khanari
What if we have a requerment that the alias would be unik?
/tell ALIAS = /tell Andro
Wouldn\'t solve it all?
-
there\'s no problem in \'/tell name\'
so what\'s to solve? ?(
