Title: PlaneShift Server Settings
Post by: chrischoo on December 19, 2003, 05:17:23 am
Over the next couple of days or so, you should connect to 203.81.47.74 to get to the PlaneShift server. The planeshift.fragnetics.com subdomain, and all other subdomains under fragnetics.com will be unavailable.

This also means that the planeshift.fragnetics.com website will *not* be available. You can however check whether the server is running at http://203.81.47.74/gaming

No prizes for anyone who guesses what went wrong  ;(

It looks like things are returning to normal now. The root DNS servers are updating and planeshift.fragnetics.com should be accessible again.  :D

Title: Problems with server (I guess)
Post by: Rizarr on March 23, 2004, 10:48:34 am
Hello

I just downloaded all the components of the game and did everything necessary to start the game, but after char creation I got the message \"The server is not running or is not reachable. Please check the website or forums for more info.\" I tried both planeshift.fragnetics.com and  203.81.47.74. I\'m trying to play via school computer that is in lan, could that have something to do with this?

Please help me out, I really want to play!

You need to allow PlaneShift to use port 13331 for UDT traffic, I highly doubt you\'re school\'s network has this post open.

yeah, same problem here :(( .. i`m really upset .. hope i can deal with this problem really quick
Title:
Post by: sharp on April 16, 2004, 03:41:00 pm
ok, let`s suppose i resolved the 1331 port restriction ... what could be the next problem if i still receive the: Server could not be found // check the forums .. bla bla bla.. ?? .. thank you.
.. btw, are you sure that you meant UDT ? .. not UDP ? .. anyway ... i don`t know much about Lan(s) and stuff .. but i never heard about UDT (if yes, then what does it means? .. please) .. thx

He was speaking  of UDP. PS uses UDP to send it\'s data over the net. Regarding  your problem: the only possibility in my  eyes   would  be that your school has a firewall or proxy. I am playing through a lan,  too, connected to the internet  via a router and dsl modem and I don\'t have to take care of special settings. The only thing to do is to forward port 13331 via NAT if you want to run your own server.  ;)

BTW: wouldn\'t it be better to play at home? Well, unless you are allowed to use the comp   for PS ;)
Title:
Post by: sharp on April 16, 2004, 07:22:45 pm
hehe,  i know what UDP does .. didn`t know about UDT // anyway, let me explain the exact situation ....
my pc is receving internet from another computer trough (ICS -- internet connection sharing), that computer is linked to the server wich goes outside (with an unique ip) --> so, i don`t have an unique ip outside // that should not be a problem ... the server has firewall .. and as i know the port 13331 was closed down // i`ve spoken with the administrator and the said he will open that port, strictly for the 203.81.47.74 adress. So my question is, in the present situation, if the port is open, can i connect to the server?
// btw, check this out :)

* Dns resolved 203.81.47.74 to rincewind.fragnetics.com

if i try to connect to rincewind.fragnetics.com, it will work? :)
Title:
Post by: Karosh_Steinkatz on April 16, 2004, 08:40:56 pm
it will work if the firewall is open. and since planeshift.fragnetics.com is just an alias for rincewind.fragnetics.com you can use both :P And there is  no UDT ;) (afaik at least)

well, the firewall has opened my port // and i still can`t connect!! help! :(

Post by: Karosh_Steinkatz on April 16, 2004, 11:05:56 pm
Hmm... was the port opened in the incoming or outgoing direction? If it was opened in the incoming direction  it won\'t help  you,  since  you have to connect to  port 13331  on the other side, not  on your  own. Better ask your admin about this. The firewall must be set up to allow  connection to  port 13331  on the outgoing direction.
Title:
Post by: sharp on April 16, 2004, 11:50:19 pm
uh, i`ve explained it to him .. about the game and why i need it opened .. and he knows that it must be opened in the both directions .. he knows what he`s doing .. but i`m very suspicious about the thing that he didn`t really opened it at all .. is there any way i can test this? .. i`ve used a telnet to connect on port 13331 for the ps server .. but it failed ... network error ... guess i`ll just try an internet cafe .. and see if i can play for somewhere`s else ... this before i`ll set on fire my admin`s apartment :D

Wha? It surely needs to be open for _incoming_ packets. I know this because I needed to set up a port forwarding rule on my router box to get rid of \"linkdead\". This would not have been necessary if it were an _outgoing_ udp packet. It _might_ be an outgoing issue as well, because I read that it would help to rush through the char creation process, which seems to imply that an assumed stateful firewall will keep the route up long enough for the server to use it after the initial packet was sent by the client, if the creation was rushed.
Therefore, it is highly likely that it has to be open in both directions, and I\'m sure it needs to be open for incoming packets.
Check both local firewall and gateway for openness of this port, because any of them could block it independantly.

You do NOT need to have the port open to incoming connections. I know this for a fact because it isn\'t with my setup and I can still play. Outgoing connections can receive data.

*gasp* I have an icon called \"kein Icon\" to select now!
Title:
Post by: Karosh_Steinkatz on June 28, 2004, 11:19:55 am
I have only port 13331 open for my server which is another comp than the one I am playing on. So it isn\'t an incoming issue for me. But maybe your router needs that. My Dlink DI-604 runs fine without port forwarding to the client.

Asuming that you are talking about CB, the server list is in data/servers.xml.
Title: modify server list
Post by: nedavies on January 03, 2005, 11:23:36 pm
Hi

I had to alter the server list to

192.168.x.x  is the ipadress of the firewall on my network.

Also open port 13331 and it worked fine.

Eh? That\'s just plain stupid

The localhost server is used by the developers to loopback the connections to the local server we use for debugging and testing localy. It\'s a misstake that it even exists there.
Setting this would, can and will NOT solve any connection problem to Fragnetics.

EDIT: If you don\'t specificly forward port 13331 to 7234 on laanx.fragnetics.com or something wierdoly, but i see no reason doing that

Psker, it is in the data/servers.xml file. If you are Windows it is probably in C:\\Program Files\\Planeshift Crystal Blue\\data\\servers.xml. If you are on a Mac then it is probably in /Applications/Planeshift 3D/data/servers.xml. If you are on Linux, then you should know where your PS dir is and this is in there.

Post by: theRealGorbulas on January 14, 2005, 04:45:27 am
If you are trying to do the stuff with the IP address that was mentioned in the beginning of this thread, then there is no need to edit the file. The server is up and running on the normal domain name.
You want to open the existing file and edit it, not create a new file with that stuff in it and overwrite the existing one.

have you tried recently? I don\'t seen any indication of the server being down anywhere. If you are still having problems connecting, try the IRC channel #planeshift on irc.freenode.net.

It\'s an IRC room, not a website. If you are on Windows, then try HydraIRC(I\'ve heard that it is good, but have never used it myself). If you are on a Mac, then try out Colloquy. Linux has lots of them, like Gaim, Kopete, etc. There are lots of people in there most of the time, and somebody should be able to help you.

what site? If you are on Windows, then go to http://www.hydrairc.com/index.php?page=downloads and click on HydraIRC.exe. Install it and then connect to Freenode.net(usualy irc.freenode.net, but any server labeled freenode will get you to the same system. Join #planeshift.
If you are on a Mac, http://colloquy.info/downloads.html and click on a download link. Install it, run it, and connect to irc.freenode.net and then join #planeshift(the file menu at the top of the screen).

Hi, my psclient does not want to connect, and i would like to know if this is the good server.xml file ?

Buth servers write \"Fail\" when i launch game.
Is server laanx.fragnetics.com opened ? is port 7354 the good one ?
if the answer is yes, how to check if port is open ? (I can ping the server but I can\'t connect with the game ?)

Thanks, i\'d like to join jou.
Title: I read this whole tread and I still had to figure it out for myself
Post by: Juvecu on February 06, 2005, 03:48:13 am
The servers.xml file tells you that the port you need to open is 7354. Open it for UDP outgoing and you should be able to connect to the Laanx server. On the login screen you will see your latency (ping) in milliseconds displayed next to the server name in the server list if you can make a connection to the server. After I mistakenly opened port 13331 I had to figure it out myself. Smack the guy that said 13331 earlier on in this thread.

Now once I\'m able it connect to the server and I try to login it tells me my version is wrong. I\'m running Planeshift Crystal Blue (0.3.0.0.6) on Linux.

Any suggestions ?

Well, some friends of mine, also using linux, said to do the instll through the CVS update, supposedly that fixes the version error.

I\'m trying this now, but it\'s taking quite a while. Hope it works :)

Run the updater (it\'s called updater.exe).

If you\'re using Windows then go to Start -> Program Files -> PlaneShift Crystal Blue -> PlaneShift Updater.

That means that the server is down for maintanence ;).

Just wait, it shouldn\'t be down for too long.

Argh...

I am having a BIG problem. When I try and run the updater, I get the the error \"Couldn\'t connect to mirror fragnetics, ran out of mirrors\" and then it just stops working. I am \"hooked up\" to the internet through a LAN and VSOCKS light, an internet connection sharing program (The host Computer is running win 98 and doesnt have ICS). I have the program installed on the host computer and everything works like a charm, but on the client computer (mine), I get that error, Any Ideas?

PS: VSOCKS doesn\'t allow you to open or close ports (I don\'t think) and it uses port 1080 for the browser setup.
It also acts as A firewall so I cannot upload files to other peoples\' computers.

-Thanx in advance for any help :)

That sound like a proxy to me. I don\'t know how to use the updater with a proxy, but knowing whether it is a proxy or not will help solve the problem. (you need to tell you program to use a proxy if you need one)
Title:
Post by: Xandarius on April 17, 2005, 05:19:48 pm
It is a proxy. Would all I would have to do be configure the program to use a proxy?
Title:
Post by: theRealGorbulas on April 17, 2005, 08:15:12 pm
I don\'t know if it can be configured through the GUI, but there are proxy settings in updaterconfig.xml. The game itself might not work with a proxy, but I don\'t know. Can you play any other games with this proxy?

This is the first client-based RPG that I\'ve tried, but I am able to play an online game called Run escape (minus the space :) ).

        1
        192.168.1.1
        1080

Would these settings work for a socks proxy ? ( assuming the host IP is correct )
