Title: english/spanish/french
Post by: Wynona on December 21, 2003, 05:17:10 pm
O kay, I don\'t mean to offend anyone, that is not my intentions, but when you are in game and chatting using the /shout , please speak english.  The majority of players who use the planshift chat board can and do speak english.  This way everyone can talk and understand each other.  If you choose to speak to someone in another language than you can do so, but do it in the /tell way.  It is very annoying when you are in game and people choose to speak not only in a foriegn language but also in caps lock.  Please think of majority and use /tell or /group .  Thank you it would be appreciated.

By the way I want to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
Feliz Navidad
Sorry dont know how to say it in dutch or french:)

Always nice to see people who care ;)

Though I think the best way to handle this is reminding them ingame to please speak English. Most of the time they will comply.
Posting it on the forum is a good thing and might help, but the most effective way is ingame.

Anyway, the majority allready speaks English so it\'s not such a big problem.

And Merry Christmas. :)

Well they were reminded several times in game. However they found it amusing that they were not understood and proceeded to speak in spanish.  It would not have been to terrible if they couldn\'t speak english but they could.  Anyways it got to the point where I just had to leave the game.  So here I am posting about it.  I just hope maybe they will hop on over and read it. :)

Don\'t count on it :P

These things don\'t happen that much though, as long as this doesn\'t happen all the time it\'s not such a big deal.
Well anyway, later on we\'ll have GM\'s to handle that stuff ;)

In french: Joyeux No?l

And yes, they were annoying speaking only spanish, though they didn\'t say very interesting things the few minutes I was online (\"i\'m looking for crystals\", and that kind of stuff).

Duetch: Vrolijke Kerstmis en Gelukkig Nieuw Jaar
French: No?l joyeux et Bonne Ann?e

I hope I got those right. I\'m not very good with languages other than English, but I\'m pretty good with Spanish.

I agree that people speaking languagues you don\'t understand can be annoying. Most people here can speak English to some extent. Yet we shouldn\'t get mad at the people who can\'t. So if you can speak English than please speak English so everyone can understand. We shouldn\'t get mad at all because some may not know how to speak English. Think oof how they feel when everyone is talking in English, it must suck.

Wait till the Cabal has PS. We\'ll have everyone speaking AURAN or CTHULTHU within 4 years, 45 days, 17 hours, 7 minutes and 3 seconds.

Wynona is right on one thing, almost every player (if not all players) on PS understands english, but i dont see what\'s the problem if some ppl want to speak other languages cuz they feel more confortable with it, anyway u dont have to read everything everybody says.

 Merry Christmas!!!
 Feliz Navidad!!!

Well, i will say it in a \'few\' words.

I\'m a spanish PS user and i\'m not embarrased about my language.

Why must WE talk in another language that\'s not our native language?

Two reasons:

The interface is in English
People who play are English speakers(native or not).

Mmm, Developpers dind\'t care about translating to another languages in this pre-alpha release and we dind\'t say anything. But I found some topics about personal - translation.

Please, don\'t think this is an attack or an offensive comment. I\'m only saying that spanish users have to speak in our native language if we don\'t speak English and people should be more comprehensive about it.

In addition, we haven\'t any text about installing, running, creating and playing the game in our language so....

Think about it.... what whould happen if u enter into a French game.... Should French people hate English people sentences (in native language)?

You speak english without a flaw, so speak english in game, don\'t be stubborn.  Someone who is english speaking and not French speaking will most likely not even bother to join only French speaking game.  Occasionaly shouting in any other language is OK, for example if somebody trying to find a friend or make friends of same language, but carry on the conversation in private

/Shout is for English only. Nobody is stopping you from speaking in other languages in /say and /tell and /guild so go right ahead. Those are the rules, whether anyone agrees with them or not.

Why not have the option of displaying prefered language under you name so you can find people who speak your language with out shouting about it

english - fully fleuent
french - tourista fleuency

i\'m not sure if i find people speaking somethine other than english annoying or not. probably not. maybe it is a side effect of having gone to a uni that trys to bring in international students because they are easier money.

i\'ve kind of thought like this. i really don\'t care what they are saying when they jabber away in their foriegn lingos. and if it is really important they\'ll use english like any properly civilized person.

okay maybe not as condesendingly but you get the point.

on some level it adds to the suspension of disbelief required for games like this. especially when the world is proposed to be as big and complex as ps. they could be immigrants from another level or realm. or simply speaking the one of the native languages of their species.

If people speaking another language in game is an issue, why doesn\'t someone create a mod to translate/ filter languages to [insert language here]?

I for one, would use something like that, but only coz I like to know what\'s going on.  :D

I\'m french so as you may guess, english is not really natural to me... But , I think it would really divide the community if some of us started speaking french or whatever language, it could even lead to a Spanish server,a German server,an English server... yeak, it would be horrible

I think it\'s a chance that english is taught everywhere and used in ps because it\'s a way to mix people, and it\'s always cool not to know where people come from in real life. Moreover, if you practice english on ps you\'ll be better at school :)

So why would we be stubborn and refuse to mix with the rest of the community ? (as soon as we dont forget that french is the best language of the world of course :)))))))

And if you\'re afraid of making mistakes, dont worry ! I make plenty of them and nobody has laughed at me yet (dont start now pleaaaase :)
