Title: lynx's puzzles
Post by: lynx_lupo on December 21, 2003, 07:18:01 pm
Here\'s my type of Art:
I\'m quite satisfied with it; it has some very good things and some bad things. It was a challenge to create one with all those \"x\" and \"y\" in it. So it\'s kinda hard for the end user(what\'s wrong with that!?).

Clue: Xeres is the cherry. (and one hint is wrong, but not hard to guess)

I\'ll make some more PS related puzzles; if you want anytype in particular just say so. :O

Lol the puzzle itself is pretty hard (some of your hints are really odd) but the solution is very simple. ;)

In the current news(2004.01.10) there is a very brief report of a scary monster.
Title: The PUPPY

The PUPPY

Welcome to the Paralel Universe Puzzling Place: Yliakum! ;)
Since it\'s a different place, all the material is different too. This means that the NPCs have different races, occupations and characteristics, hehe. Things are different. ;D

A) This is a logic puzzle where you test your deduction skills. The next 8 hints should give you all you need, to find out who does what, is what race and has which characteristic. Below is also the standard table, which eases the solving process.

B) If yoo\'re really not up to the challenge, you can solve the table with this universe\'s settings(litteraly) - the present NPCs and their stuff. A destinctive pattern should show up.

1. The Ylian is not a female and the one that is, isn\'t a guard.

2. Jayose is not the Stonebreaker. Dur\'ok is fury and (s)he\'s not an Enkidukai.

3. The Dermorian is a herbalist and is not heavy or stout. The librarian is the heavy one.

4. The Kran is not fury and it\'s the tavern maid(:D). Rabartus and Ri\'miyan are not female.

5. Ri\'miyan and Jayose aren\'t Enkidukais and neither of them is the tavern maid or the librarian.

6. The Stonebreaker is not stout or well-read; (s)he\'s the tanner.

7. Neither the fury nor the well-read one is a guard or a librarian.

8. Ri\'miyan isn\'t a Ylian.

Title:
Post by: lynx_lupo on March 06, 2004, 05:53:05 pm
yes, furry. Typos.

Try to solve it, don\'t biatch about trivialities. :P

The first one who solves this(part A)) get\'s 3 dias.
solves=PM me the solution.

That was fun ^^...took forever though...

translation for the first hint:
the ylian is not female. the female isn\'t a guard. ;)

Afaik 4 people have solved the PUPPY. :/

First one was Ald\'Amun Dungeonrunner and gets the promised award. Second was Dinner and third Xandria and they get nothing but the pleasure of solving it :D

In this puzzle you\'ll have to find as many nouns(English and singular) in a word as possible. You can use each letter only once. And to make it harder, only 4 or more letter words count.

EXAMPLE: ;)
Exam, maple, palm,

The word to break down is PLANESHIFT. doh

If you find 10, it means you\'re not braindead. :)
If you find 20, not bad.
If you find 30, you\'re good.
If you find 40, you\'re impressive.
If you find 50 or more, you\'re as good as me(or really bored)! ;) :D

Here\'s a simple type of a \"Scrambled thought\". You have to combine the letters at the bottom of each collumn to form words in upper spaces. Which in turn, left to right, up to down form the thought.

Every char is usable exactly once.

A simple riddle(not fact!):
\"The Planeshift drow will be called Dormorians. Why?\" (Dermorians connection isn\'t the right answer)

Just nouns is so hard... I cant have things like spin or faint  or help or pent....  :(

Edit: or spent, or even Half... Psch... or Penal... bloody penal colony adjective la de da. But i can have fast, as in the vow of not eating food 8). Oh wait, half is a noun

Uhm, spin is a noun. ^-
Title:
Post by: Icefalcon on April 22, 2004, 04:12:11 am
Hmm, I guess it is a noun, its not an object...you usually think of spin as a verb...

NPC lines

Some npc couples(each color dot) have lost their pair in a big city. They must reunite - to make it easier, only one of tha pair will move and find the other. To make it harder, no path must be taken more than once and no intersections are allowed(they\'re homofobic).

[basicly you have to connect the same dots and make no intersections or use a street twice]

Here\'s the tloris of the city(grey=house matter, blue=moat):

oh: please don\'t post pics of the solved thing=spoilers

WAY too easy.  X(
Solved in less than 5 minutes, probably less than it took you to make this \'puzzle\'. I liked your old ones better.

hehehe hehe, ph.

Well, i don\'t want to do the same type of puzzles for now. The next one will be a gobelin (not goblin!), which can be very hard to solve.
Title:
Post by: Skizzik on May 16, 2004, 11:15:39 pm
I don\'t even know what a gobelin is. ^_^
Title:
Post by: lynx_lupo on May 16, 2004, 11:35:43 pm
it\'s a technique to do fabric like art(\"paintings\") with wool usually(gobelin being the slovene name). The puzzle type has little in common with that.

looks like pixel art

I guess I\'ll just wait till you post your next puzzle (the gobelin).
Title: good work
Post by: Adeli on July 14, 2004, 05:53:31 pm
these puzzles are really good, I\'m not certain what you mean by a gobelin puzzle.. I looked at the site and got confused, so I\'ll wait and see.

(Does anyone else keep thinking GOBLIN instead of GOBELIN?)

Keep up the good work Lupo

Thank you Adeli.
The link shows a woven thing, pixel art lookalike. That\'s it. I\'ll try to do it now...

Oh, please call me lynx - lupo was just for uniqness reasons, since lynx was taken...

just noticed - the npc line pic is an optical illusion!!! 8o The roads are all white!

Post by: lynx_lupo on July 18, 2004, 10:14:08 pm
Ok, here it is(forgot about it). And hard as promised :D . The following image is the thing. The numbers tell you(i know, had to squish some in) how many groups of black squares there are on the image(empty table). So 3-5-1-1 means there are groups of 3, 5, 1 and 1 of black spots IN THAT ORDER. Between every group there is at least one blank spot, but you don\'t know how much of them and where it all starts.

Example(on a 16px):
- we have the order, 3 5 1 1
- we have the whole width, 16
- and we know there is at least one blank spot inbetween each group
- and by simple math, that there are 6 blanks
so all these combinations could be the solution:
-***-*****-*-*--
***--*****-*--*-
-***---*****-*-*
***-*****-*-*---
etc etc

You figure out where to put a black spot by checking the intersection of all the combinations :D. The place to start is where there are big numbers, especially if they go over 1/2 of the field(a sum that does that is often enough). So you color a few and repeat until you have a pixelmap - gobelin. There is a text hint and another one: there is only one image, eg all polys are connected(even closed iirc). Oh and drawing the blanks is essential too.

Some of them are hard to understand, but possible. There\'s just this one that I just can\'t understand because the distance between the chars is exactly the same and they\'re aligned perfectly together:

In square 3, 3rd line: Is it 1, 1, 11, 11, 1 or 1, 1, 11, 1, 11?
Title:
Post by: lynx_lupo on July 18, 2004, 11:11:26 pm
well, how would you fit 2x11(plus all other) in 16 spaces?

It was annoying to do the text in gimp, but ended up good - just this^ reason alone made it good.
Title:
Post by: SaintNuclear on July 18, 2004, 11:34:38 pm
Could it be that there are too many 1s in that line then? There are two 1s that stand right in the middle between two boxes.
Title:
Post by: lynx_lupo on July 18, 2004, 11:46:49 pm
no. I said i *drew* it. And i test the stuff... They just didn\'t fit - i wasn\'t going to add 3 or more columns just to fit them in.

lynx,

That last puzzle was okay, but I didn\'t like the fact that the only way I could solve it was to color it in when I was halfway done, and compare what I saw to your clue.  The rest I had to guess (correctly) and draw in myself, because I couldn\'t find any other way to solve the other half of the puzzle.

However, it kept me entertained for an hour or so, so thanks!!  :D

I have noticed some of these I took in Psychology 30 class and little fun tests :/
Title:
Post by: lynx_lupo on September 01, 2004, 10:53:43 am
Xandria, I think it is possible with the extra clues - but it\'s hard for me to test it, since i drew it and pretested it.
The clues are really important in that matter.
(there\'s always the option of giving it the inverted image, but that would be too easy even for an example)
You had fun!!! :D My goal is achieved then. :] And I forgot: congrac! ;)

Psychology 30??? You had psy 1, psy 2, ... , psy 29? uhmm, someone has seen the Silence of the lambs n too many times! :D

Chain

This is a multiple step puzzle, something like a pipe, except that I tried to make it solvable from further stages too. Start at the beginning and make your way through.

As always, don\'t post solutions here, anything else is wanted, i mean welcome. :) You can pm me the solution if you\'re not sure it\'s correct.

---------------------------------------------
1. Incorporating a few PS aspects, this exclamation is key. Remove all the double (recursively) letters (assassins! -> ins) and gather the remaining letters.

\"He who drinks my blood,
tastes my steel!\"

2. Shuffle the letters until you get two words, each containing a bit operator. They are connected; this pic somewhat fits the description they give:

3.2. The bit operators make up a name of a renown mage of the night. Tell me his nickname. (optional)
3.1. Write the operators on the dashes(poor box replacements :/) and add the missing letters on the underscores to get the name of a rl-famous elf impersonator.
- - _ - - - _    _ _ _ _ _

4. Remove the doubles again, ignoring the two operators (just look at the new letters). Shuffle to get a synonym for a monster.

5. Sum the first and the last letter (their place in the alfabet) to get a new one and then remove that letter from the original string.

6. Expand the acronym you got as a result.

7. The end. :)

--------------------------------------------------

Keep your brain alive, solve a puzzle. :D
