i think there should be special magic crystals called essence crystals or something. these crystals trap the souls of defeated monsters inside of them. there could be a set number of monsters that could be trapped inside the crystal, depending on the type of crystal. obviously the gems with larger capacity would be more expensive or difficult to come by. at any time you wanted you could \"release\" the power of the monsters souls trapped within the crystal.
it could be used a magic attack, monster summoning, some kind of ritual. there are probably alot of things they could be used for. once released, the crystal must be refilled with souls. the stronger the monsters soul, the harder it will be to capture. but all the more powerful if succesful.
additions? changes? comments? :)

I think this idea has come up before. I\'ve never been against it; I\'ve seen something like it implented in another MMORPG I tried once, and it was interesting.
The problem is that there are so many Pokemon haters out there to keep it from ever getting into the game...
Maybe instead it should be something like Secret of Mana, where these energy crystals don\'t store the souls of slain enemies, but instead contain some sort of energy released from their death. You could then use this energy to do some cool stuff with ( not sure exactly what; someone take off with this ;) )

well thats the idea. read it again ;) of course if they were used as summons, the monsters wouldnt pop out of the crystals as good as new :P they would be undead spectres, because they are dead and all that remains of them is their soul. the crystals would trap the soul, not the physical body. As I already said, they could be used for plenty of other things besides summoning.

hmm, I forgot what game I seen this in, but u can use stones like these in the enchanting of weapons, which is a very good idea. :D
-
do you mean Morrowind? :P
-
Soul crystals from Exile II!
-
Yes, that would be the game: Morrowind. :D
-
the idea is similar to morrowinds soul gems yes, but crystal gems would trap the soul, not the physical body.
-
In Morrowind you were enchanting creature so when you kill it, the soul would travel to the smallest possible crystal. Body itself was staying on ground.
-
but the body somehow manages to pop out of the gem good as new when summoned in morrowind. thats the difference.
-
errr... I don\'t remember summoning stuff from crystals in Morrowind :/
I think you just used them to enchant/recharge various items
however I haven\'t been playing for a long time and might forget it :/

Um, surly Morrowinds \'SOUL\' Gems were called that because they trapped the \'SOUL\'?? :D

What do you think about this :
Each time you beat a crature, a part of it\'s soul is \"stocked\" in a gem/crystal. When it\'s enough loaded, you can summon the creature (on your side), but only once, spending the creature\'s soul.
There would be different gems/crystals with different properties, different prices, different loading capacity, different number of \"slots\" (a gem/crystal with 2 slots acts like 2 gems/crystals of this type, but only takes 1 space in inventory), ...
-
But its an option right? Not you kill something and its suddenly in the crystal.
In Exile II, there was a spell to copy a creatures soul into one of 4 slots in your soul crystal. THey could resist, however. And it ends up in a random slot, so you risk losing something differnt.
-
Well yes, you could say for instance you have to cast a spell that\'ll put the monster\'s soul in a selected crystal/gem when defeated ... kinda \"souldrain\"
And have some gems/crystals that will autocast that spell on monsters curently in loading.
Some monsters could require a certain level of that spell to be \"souldrained\", level that will improve with souldrain and monster invoking experience (and get bonuses if you practice that magic way at a high enough level)
Could also say that the soul\'s only drained to the crystal/gem it was last linked to by the last \"souldrain\" spell cast. So when some1\'s fighting, you can steal it\'s opponement\'s soul by casting \"souldrain\" just before it\'s killed :P :] ;)
