It\'s coming out...
LATER
Really, if they released it now it would be buggy crap and you don\'t want that.
Just wait a few months, it\'s on it\'s way...

to n00b #1: it\'s PlaneShift, not planetshift..

to n00b #2: it will be done when the devs have finished it, they had some delays so we will have to wait a bit longer.
This isn\'t only a bad thing since now we will have stuff in the game that wasn\'t even planned when it will be released.

to el33t asshole #1: Nobody likes a spelling nazi.

to el33t asshole #2: Seeing how this game is game is under development, there are going to be a lot of new players for a very long time. Get used to  it. Putting down what you would call \"n00bs\" (its pretty hard to call someone a n00b at this game, considering all you can do is pick up crystals) doesnt do anything for the community. And since the News page hasn\'t been updated for a while, I\'m not surprised he was wondering when it would be released, thats the same reason I came here after about 2 months of being gone.

Wow, I totally remember reading practically the exact same thing a couple of months ago...weird 8o

Fingel, as there will always be new players, there will always be people who are annoyed by the stupidity of their questions, get used to it.

n00b is annoying \"new guy\" so it has nothing to do with stage of game. And he was more like whining that it\'s not released yet.
Besides that, yea... #2 was bit too harsh...

The noobs I find annoying are the ones that can\'t seem to grasp the fact that the game is free and always will be free.

We used to get like a thread a week of people saying things like:
- Is It realy Free
- How long before we have to pay
- etc etc
Title:

So is CB going to be free too?
Title: ...
Post by: Draklar on December 31, 2003, 09:33:30 pm
The whole point of this project is about PS to be free... even when it\'s \"finished\"

Cool :D
(sorry for me being such a newbie)

Open source and \"no money\" (gratis) aren\'t the same thing.  You can charge for free software (that is, open source); and you can give away proprietary software for free (that is, gratis).  They are not the same thing, in fact, they\'re not even related.

Post by: Xelon on December 31, 2003, 10:02:25 pm
but generally open source is free... there are always exceptions

i like noobies :]

anyhow:

PS [PlaneShift] is going to be free all the time
CS [Crystal Space] is the engine for PS and is also FOSS [Free Open Source Software], like Planeshifit is.

and about the next release, i\'d like to quote someone:
\"It\'ll be ready, when it\'ll be ready\" ...no haste. But when it\'ll be ready, it WILL be ready ...better a late release then a \"on-time\" (although the devs never said a date!!) with tons of bugs.

the first public playable release was called AB - Atomic Blue, the current one is MB - Molecular Blue, the next is CB - Crystal Blue ...see a patern here? ;)

oh, and welcome to Planeshift ...i hope you\'ll like it :]

lol thanks. It\'s cool i think these pre-releases will give you a great view for what you can expect. I mean this is one of the best graphics i\'ve seen in a free game!

(applaudes to the creators)

I think this game has great potential.

Why all this fuss about n00bs?
I\'m glad they are there. They give us something to do.
N00b: \"what can you do here?\"
Regular player: \"look for crystals, walk, talk and answer newbie questions (yay, I just added 1 more thing on my to do list)\" :D

I\'d say that was more of an annoyance, seeing as people (including me) have written countless FAQs to answer newbies\' questions and some people still don\'t read them. I like newbies because it gives me a chance to make a new friend and help them progress in the game, not to answer the same questions over, and over, and over again.

Can we please eliminate the evil word \"noob\" in all its ways of spelling right now. If I see that word in game I\'ll stop playing. The word we should use is novice, if thats to hard for you, use newcomer or if you really have to sound like a 13 year old girl on msn, newbie.

If I sound like another spelling-nazi, I\'m not, I\'m just a guy who prefer actual words.
Title:
Post by: Axsyrus on January 06, 2004, 09:46:55 pm
yay, i\'m a spelling nazi who uses the word n00b, and gets flamed by a random \"happy helpful mirth person\" because i corrected a newbie :D
Title:
Post by: Kiern on January 06, 2004, 10:02:28 pm
Won\'t see you around long then Culsoron...and newbie is a perfectly good word meaning novice.

EDIT: And you people saying that these stupid questions are not annoying, try actually sticking around here and post for a few months and then say the same thing, then I think others might take what you say into consideration, or just think you have way too much patience (acraig :P).

If I remember right, back in the day, we use to call n00bz \"Peanuts\" it\'s much nicer. :)

No Flame Please!
*Poof*Fire*  :D

Well there is quite simple explanation...novices *AHEM* n00bs *AHEM* just aren\'t bother to go to search and type somethung like \"is planeshift free\" sorta of thing plus sometimes the search don\'t give you what you want...this happens to me every time...either i get an error saying \"if you unsure how to use this feature screw off :P\" So n00bs just ask the question again and again \'cos the not even bothered to go on second page of the forum...

Nah, I think most people still see that, but they do not just believe it. If you look around on the internet, a lot of stuff claims to be free, but isn\'t really (comes with a monthly fee, is shareware etc.)
If you ever fell for something like that you\'ll probably ask twice before you believe it. I myself spent quite some time on the webpage before I even downloaded the client (though I never fell for any \"hidden-cost-ware\" ;)).
Title:
Post by: Kiern on January 07, 2004, 08:25:33 pm
If they say it\'s free on the website, then someone comes here and as \"Is it free?\" then someone else says yes...I do not see a difference.

Enough arguing about the word \'n00b\' and \'is it free\' now. :) The topic has already been addressed, so let\'s leave it as that.

Personally I don?t mind waiting a couple of months, but if they push it back again I will be slightly annoyed. I have already lost faith in open source and deadlines, but the PS team does seem more organized than most open source projects ergo I am just going to give them the benefit of the doubt and be patient.
