Title: Suspicious NPS?
Post by: Kixie on January 05, 2004, 12:11:44 am
Well I\'m back and while most of ya didn\'t miss me... whatever I\'m here to post now.

Well why don\'t we have NPCs be suspicious of certain movements. Like if your in a store and you walk around alot or crouch or make lots of twitchy movements the story keeper gets suspicious and asks you alot of questions. This should also include runing alot inside of buildings. If I went in a jail or an important governement building and started running how long do you think it would take them to body slam me and arrest me? Running is just suspicious so why not keep it that way in public places. It may take a little longer to get somewhere in a city but c\'mon enjoy the scenery. This would defenally add the whole roleplaying experience.

Edit: whoops meant suspicious NPCs...

the moving around alot in a shop would be a nice addition, and like when they ask ya something ill use this as an example:

Shopkeeper: Why do you keep walking around so much in my store, is it that big?

Player:(option 1)Im trying to figure out what i want to buy
(option 2) im fixing to steal something
(option 3) mind your own business

Shopkeeper: (option 1) well hurry up ive got more things to worry about then some customer who cant make up his mind
(option 2) GUARDS!!!!!
(option 3) well fine, but mind ur own business someplace else (or something of the sort)

option 1: the better of the 3 ;)
option 2: the i wanna be stupid for fun kinda way
option 3: the i wanna get thrown out cause he kept asking me questions kinda way

i\'d like this, it\'d be fun to every once in awhile be stupid, get thrown in jail, and then released after a certain time (since u didnt really steal anything), but while ur in jail u should have some ppl to talk to, such as a hole in the wall so u can talk to other prisoners and maybe find out some \"very valueable info\" or u can just sit till they release ya :S, of course its always a good thing to get the item first before u decide somethin like that

and i dont like the idea on how running in the streets would get ya tackled and arrested even though that\'d be funny as hell if a player could tackle another player while running just for laughs (and to piss off the other player) but only if its in PvP

u shouldnt get arrested cause what if ur in a hurry? maybe u ALMOST forgot to go see someone?, it might give ya a good excuse if u got arrested but its still not needed, but running in certain buildings or on a certain route might be suspicious

and finaly the last of my post (thank god, eh?)

having special quests to find \"suspicious looking characters\" (characters = NPCs of course), i think that\'d be fun, as long as u got something special, or could like hit him over the head, and drag him back to the person or something ;) (of course u\'d have to get him into an alleyway at first)

yes very cool idea...u think the NPC could even have the power to arrest you or somethin? or call for guards?
Title:

it could, all they\'d have to do is make a script so when the NPC says a certain thing a random guard (maybe the closest one) is teleported somewhere really close and he runs in and arrests ya after the other NPC tells him something like, hes a thief, or hes an attacker or whatever

Considering how will conversation with NPCs work in PS - I would forget about this idea.

NPC: \"Why are you running in the library?\"
Me: \"Because i\'m in a hurry\"
NPC: \"I must have something in my ear\"
Me: \"I\'m running because I\'m late for an appointment\"
NPC: \"I dont understand\"
Me: \"Okay, okay! I was trying to steal something\"
NPC: Keyword \'steal\' detected \"GUARDS!\"
;)

lol and it could turn to something like that:

NPC: \"Why are you running in my shop?\"
PC: \"I\'m chasing that enki, he tried to steal an iron ration!\"
NPC: Keyword \'steal\' detected \"GUARDS!\"
PC: 8o

:P

:), i\'d love to also be able to resist arest and try my luck at outrunning 10 guards with more coming cause one went for backup after the 10th mile around town ;)

NPC: hello sir what can i get ya
PC: yes, hmm i\'d like to stael some bread
NPC: yes i have stale bread but its not that good for you
PC: no i wanted to steal some bread
NPC: go ahead and steal all the stale bread you want, i cant sell it off anyways here have it. (NPC gives you 20 pieces of stale bread)
PC: arg, cant he understand me
NPC: say that again i think i have something in my ear
PC leaves after stealing some bread

Ive seen alot of people talking about your character saying suspicious things. thats not what i was aiming for. dont know how u came up with it. I only want suspicious movements to start npcs in a script of suspicion. NPC text is not far along enough to have suspicious text.

maybe not but it\'d still be nice

now add PS NPC conversation system and you\'ll get situations like above...

ya, i\'d love this game so much more if u can talk to most NPCs like up above and u\'d get different reactions out of them

I apologize if this has been said before, but...

Perhaps if your walk around with a wielded weapon, some NPCs are definately going to get suspicious. They might take you for a visit to the prison, that just happens to be several (game) years. Anyway, that would certainly remove all those open swords, axes, and whatnot from the streets, in any case, if only out of respect for the law. If there is one.  Anyway, this idea, in my opinion, is realistic, as people are usually suspicious if somebody is walking around, with a sword in their hand. Unless it\'s a guard.

ya, that\'d be nice, but how about each town has a set of rules for their type of culture, such as if a town was based off of friendly folk who hate fighting, then if u have ur weapon out then ur gonna get arrested

but lets say if i went to a town without this rule cause it was based off of neutral or war-like ppl, then maybe someone would come up (depending on lvl and stats) and challenge you to a duel, some harmless others to the death, and u wont get sent to prison by carrying a weapon, but there should be more guards cause with weapons showing is bound to be thieves lurking around to takem (even if it wasnt the one on hand)

but maybe there should be a couple of towns there they only like certain ppl with certain types of weapons, such as if u have equiped a sword or another melee weapon, and walk into town ur tagged as a melee user in that town, and so if they LIKE melee users they\'ll welcome u, otherwhyys they\'d despise u and make things more expensive and give u rude responses

i.e.: a magic user walks into town with his magic staff equiped, the town favors magic users, and so he goes to the nearest inn for a quick rest, the cost was reduced abit more then in normal towns, then the magic user goes to the nearest magic shop to buy a new staff/wand/orb/ect., they\'re sold abit more expensive but are much better then what are at a normal town\'s magic shop

i.e.2: a melee user walks into a town with his sword equiped, the town favors range users, and this char goes to the inn and is charged more then a normal town inn would charge, he then goes to the nearest blacksmith, all the weapons are much more expensive and are mainly comprised of ranged weapons, with 1-3 melee weapons for the other ppl, this char walks out and goes to a magic shop to see if they have healing pots, them and a magic user\'s weapon is charged much higher then normal

as u can tell this could be VERY handy for finding better things then other towns but having to travel through tough-easy environments depending on lvl (usualy made for the higher up ppl) but even so a melee/range/magic based town has more things for the type of character they favor then the others

and once u enter a town (close enough for the guards to identify u like a monster) you are considered a type of character from whatever u got equiped (out or not), if u havnt got anything equiped, ur favored as melee because of fist fights, if u switch weapons while in town to get things cheaper, it wouldnt work, until u made a new character and had him/her go there

NOTE: if u go into a range based town with a bow and ur melee just to get a weapon u see, all magic/melee based weapons will not be sold TO you because they assume u dont favor those type of weapons

if anyone has questions, agrees with me or doesnt like something, tell me, if u dont like it change it to ur liking and tell us

For keyword triggered attack I think it would probably only be possible if you said something you\'re not supposed to, or if you know something you\'re not supposed to.

Lets assume basilisk eggs are illegal to own/buy/make etc.
PC:hello
NPC wizard tower gaurd: move along, I have no time for small talk with citizens
PC: where do you keep the basilisk\'s eggs?
(the NPC may outright confront you, or quietly summon -using NPC telepathy;)- a couple gaurds to drag you away and question you)

Situations like this could probably be avoided by using common sense. If you went up to a cop and starting asking where you could buy drugs, you\'d probably be in a bit of trouble.

maybe or it could start by looking for if its a what, who, when, how, can, ect. and also look for the other keywords that way it can tell if it was ment to be bad or not

such as if they make it so anytime u type in how, when, what, who or so, he\'ll say somethin like that it\'ll get ya in trouble if u keep stickin ur nose in it or something depending on what ur askin about (bad or good keyword)

if its like can then yes it\'d be more like asking a cop for drugs

but we\'ll see what they plan to do if they actually do any of this

what if after you\'ve been arrested NPC\'s even referred to you as \"thief\" that would be kinda cool!  \"Its like they know!\"
