I don\'t know about other people, but what bugs the hell outa me in most rpg\'s is that everyone is the same. Everyone can get the
same lvls, everyone has the same spells, camped the same weapons. I think individuality is incredibly important if you really
want to be any kind of a hero in a game. By this I mean you join a group and every spell caster who likes your class of spells
has the same spells. I think we should have hundreds of spells you have to travel all over to collect, and make it hard, not just
buy them. If anyone has a creative way to do this, wiht weapons and armor as well I\'d like to hear it, if not just for personal gain.
Perhaps it could be relative, and the person wiht the best kill/death ratio gets a special set of armor and such.

i think a great idea to expand on dionesios\' one is maybe a way that you can get make custom armor. sort of a drag and drop
thing, were you chose the type of AR you wish to have then you could remove or add certain key parts, like a shoulder pad to
make it only have one so it has that interesting look. then you could add gems or crap like that. also to make it more custom
have each peice seperate. so that way you could have a plate breast plate on and leather sleaves, also each piece needs to have
a sertain amount of defence it adds to you so that way you cant have flimsey AR that has super protection.

That is how it is in most rpg\'s I\'ve plaid, and I like that, but still more individuality would be needed, because if a combination is
good, everyone will start using it. What if we put in titles perioticaly, like have events that go on, like race wars, and whoever
commands the armies gets general in his name, or you can type something like /awards and you can see all the
awards they have won. What we could also do is customise spells by combining different ones. Kind of like eq research, but not
jsut set combinations.

Maybe not an answer to your question, but still...
In PS we greatly encourage the roleplaying aspect in the game, we encourage people to create a story behind their character,
and remain in-character during the game. So there will be diversity in the game, there will also be a lot of spell-combinations
possible. We will also have a very advanced item system, featuring a lot of different combinations for forging armor, weapons and
shields.
-
I think one way is to let people buy the relatively common/simple spells, armor, weapons, whatever, and be able to research new combinations using various formulae. Then items or spells that break those formulae to be more powerful must be added by the game designers manually, and found by a player. Possibly drop in hints as to the location in some places...
-
I think players should be limited to certain types of armor and a limited number of spells. The type of armor they would have to decide on early in the game. the spells would be limited so only a certain amount may be learned. this way there are many people who have different strengthes and weaknesses in different areas.
-
Every way I can think of of doing that gives insufficient room for advancement. Definately limit such things based on your current ability scores and your skills, but if you up those, then your spell list and what you can wear and weild can expand.
However, if you spread your points too thin, you won\'t really be good at anything. That\'s ultimately up to the player, since this isn\'t a class based game. If it\'s done properly, then a player will pretty much have to have weaknesses if he\'s going to have any strengths...
-
ok here is an idea on individuality... make a skill in witch you can create your own custom clothes then when you want to be differant you can wear yellow pants and a large rain coat... lol this is eacaterated but you get my point like the ability to create a sheild with your clan emblem on it or a plate mail that has it ect.
-
I think I speak for everyone with a notion of the bandwidth and space that would take when I say \"Ouch!\"
Really neat idea, but not this year, nor next...

I like the idea of total customization...and all this individuality stuff is really interesting. Here are some of my crazy ideas.
Weapon Customization
You could give the weapon the name YOU choose, with is something interesting. There would be lots and lots of ornaments to combine in your weapon, or you could even make your own ornament. A blade could have runes you could put in, and about magical stuff: Why cant mages put magical enhancements in a weapon?
This would be wonderfull! We everytime see powerfull magical weapons, but WHO made them magical?
Mages!
There would be extremely nice for mages to put their own chants in a weapon. The list of attributes must be enormous, though. Really great, and there must be some limitations, or people would cast 7664654509 enhancements in them.
Also, a good idea would be to put gems in the weapons. Not something like Diablo 2, but yes like Vagrant Story. Each gem have it\'s own properties, but you could also magically enhance it.
Also, something cool would be if u can customize ur own blade. it would be hard, though, and require a lot of minerals. Depending on the size and the edge it would have a certain weight and the damage would be bigger. The colors would change only with the mineral u used, but there should be really lots, with different properties, and through alchemy you could make your own metal with it\'s own properties, giving it ur own name. The different metal could have different properties, ALL balanced, so there wouldnt be ever something like \"the perfect blade\". The blades should also irradiate a glow, depending on the magical enhancements. \"each attribute could have a glow. depending on the strengh of the magic, the glow could be stronger or weaker. Also the color owuld be additive. If you cast a enhancement that makes if glow red and other green, it would glow yellow.
I will post about my armor ideas later, gtg now :D

I love the idea of a clan logo on your weapons, shields, and armor.
Not only will your clan be more ideantifiable, but it would add colour and \"Individuality\". And the guild wars would look really cool. Imagine 40 or so ppl with the same looks running towards another 40 or so ppl with diff looks. Not only would u be able to easyly identify who to hit (hit first, ask questions later :D ), but also look cool doing it! :]
-
What about using pre and suffixes on weapons and armour. This way people will try to get the best conbination of pre and suffixes for there class.
Also there must be a low chance of getting a pre or suffix on a item and a lower chance to get them both. And it would be cool that the pre and suffixes will give a better bonus if a harder monsters dropped it. This will make it always so that how good you are there is someone better at you at something. And item making skills would be very populair. Imagine a guide that specializes on making armour. This can be good for the economie(as long as it is not so easy to make things).
-
Prefixes and Suffixes wouldnt be good, I think. U woul be limited to 2 enchants in the weapon. Also, I like more my idea of custom name =)
-
You could always have more than one prefix or suffix...
And you could still give it a custom name... Blank the blankity dagger of blank and blank :P
-
Then I think it shouldnt really be \"prefix\" or \"suffix\". Just like rare itens in Diablo 2, they have the attributes of some prefixes and suffixes, but none of them really have preffix or suffix.
I think the power of customizating the weapon\'s magic would be great. I wonder what will be the final result in the game.
-
ok i think i got a way to save serverspace when customizing
save all your personal settins such as logos and embems on your computer and the characters stats and base armor and base wepons on the server( i mean like you get a steel long and you put your symbol on it, the server will just count it as a steel long just like all the others but when you start you can run your settings kinda like a mod i know this sounds farfeched but i belive it can be done
-
Idealist: That doesn\'t sound at all far-fetched, if I\'m reading it right, but it also wouldn\'t be nearly as cool as what some people have been discussing, because everyone else would just see your character weilding the basic gear...
-
I think havin\' the ability to change the color of your armor. I mean nothin\' is more annoying then everyone bein\' the same color because that is the color of an uber item. I say we should be able to change colors of items (not with dyes :P) to customize and maybe have guild colors so you know who is who :D
-
You should definately be able to pick your colors, and then have guild colors, too. That hardly takes any space (What, 4 bytes for each color chosen? If that... It doesn\'t run at 32 bpp most places anyway, right?) and it\'ll add diversity, virtually for free. I\'ve always been slightly miffed that Diablo didn\'t do that... Oh, and I call black and silver :P (Reference to Amber, NOT to the Raiders, as I could hardly care less about football. :P)
-
personally i think that guild tattoos would be awesome. That would not be to dificult to include as long as the guilds are kept track of and they ae registered with the devs.
-
That depends on how many guilds there are. If there\'s one for every, maybe, 10 players, there\'s no way that would be feasible. If it\'s more like one every 1000, It probably would be. I\'m guessing it\'ll somewhere between the two. I don\'t know what limits the dev team will place on the creation of guilds. If each has to be officially aproved or something, it\'s a lot more likely that this could be workable. (Of course requiring approval would have many drawbacks, too...)
-
As for preventing someone coming up with the \"perfect\" configuration, how about adding a quality property to weapons and armor. What I mean is, something different than everyday combat damage (which can most likely be repaired by a smith every once in a while), something more like the natural wear and tear of equipment. This quality rating would be fairly high when the item is brand new (and possibly affected by the experience of the smith that created the weapon) and would deteriorate fairly slowly over a long period of time (several months, likely). A lower quality rating would affect damage (for weapons), defense (for armor), and the cost to repair the item. So you could use the same item for a long time, but would most likely come across a newer item to use instead. I realize this would probably be a pain to code and may not make much sense, but could add an interesting new aspect to the game.

i like the idea of weapon customization, can i have a big pointy stick?
