I am interested in how people who have found PS in the last 3 months have heard of us. I know it pretty much used to be from search engines and word of mouth, but I wonder if it is different now.
IF YOU HAVE FOUND PS SINCE OCTOBER, please answer the poll and post your thoughts.
Thanks,
- Venge
-
i find Ps from google wen i was serching Free MMORPG it was the first 1
:-D
-
I found out about this game in june/july, so i didn\'t vote.
A friend of mine gave me a list with free beta mmorpg\'s, this one looked the most promising so i started playing it :)
-
I found PS obscurely mentioned in an article on MMORPGs and since it said it\'s the best(ratio wise...) and there weren\'t any pics or any other info, just had to google it.
Standard magazine, you know... paper :)
-
You know, I can\'t even remember how I found PS. I think I came across it from google or something like that.
-
I found it exactly same way as Moty...
-
I found PS by doing a Google search. Came across a site that listed a bunch of MMORPG\'s and started looking into them. PS by far was the best. Wish I could remember the website that I found when I did the Google search I have been looking for it but can\'t seem to find it again.
-
I found it on http://www.linux-games.com. A month before September though. Was searching a good free game for Linux...

Yep, pretty much the same for me :)
-
A Nice friend told me !!!!!!
-
yeah i found it on a search engine :D
-
Just like Moty
someone is playing from july? what more can you do then exept for collecting cristals?
-
Well other than collecting crystals, you can always explore, there are neat glitches you can take advantage of so you can get on top of rooftops, etc. As well, when the NPCs are back online, there are 2 quests available.
So I\'m just not spamming this thread :D :
I joined before October so didnt vote, but I found Planeshift through the Open Beta section on Gamespot. I just checked and its actually still there :)
-
heh, I\'m glad he didn\'t ask everyone...I have no idea :P
-
Hey Venge, how about making a poll for everyone? Just remember to add \"I have no idea\"... :D
-
It got posted in the freeware of my Warez forums... :D
-
Some people talked about an open source MMORPG called Planeshift on #gentoofr, and I thought it was worth a try. I don\'t regret it at all :)
EDIT: it was by the beginning of november, i voted \"Other\"

Thats what happened to me.
-
I was bored one day, so I started looking through the genoo portage tree for games I could try out...... this was one of several I tried that day. I have to say, it\'s the one that made the biggest impact on me.
*waits with anticipation for CB release*
-
I was browsing Sourceforge in search of a nice 3D engine, then I found CS and then PS ;)
-
Found it on the eq.castersrealm.com forums, on a post I forgot the title of(their forums appear to be down atm) but it was somebody asking for things to do to fill the void since he wasn\'t playing Everquest, and somebody suggested to check out Planetshift. I followed his link and tried it out, decided to stick around. :-)

Yep, exactly the same for me and PS is my first and only MMORPG I\'ll ever want.
-
I found out about PS the same way as draklar and moty :P

Poll: How did you find PS?
I found it to be quite interesting and promising. :D
Vote: Other
(I cannot believe that after days I\'m still the first one to post this lousy pun... :P)
-
learned about it on happypenguin, when it was still AB ...but people said i should wait untill MB comes out ...so i waited ...and so i\'m here :] ...and loving it!!!
...seems like i\'m the only idiot who got to know PS from http://www.happypenguin.org :(
-
It was so long ago, but I\'m quite sure it was on the forums of Pelit, a Finnish gaming magazine. I wish I could remember who told me about PS...
-
Google is my best friend. :)
-
I have known about PlaneShift for the better part of 6-monthes aobut the project, though I am a bit sad to say I haven\'t played it as much as I probably would like to admit. For the record I believe like many others I\'m sure I found this place through google. Though exactly what I used I can\'t remember. but hey! the important thing is that I\'m here in the first place right ^_*
-
I got the link of the linuxparty.dk site a couple of months ago (oct or nov). Been interested in it ever since.
Actually i\'ve never tried it, just browsing around. When i get my primary box reinstalled, I\'ll give it a try, and i must say... I can\'t wait :).
Oh yea. I\'m new :P
*waves*

Since October.... Is today since October? If it is, then I found out about it on another MMPORPG forum... Someone dropped the name in a topic whinging about the other game......
The other game, in case you be interested, is Tibia.....
Its only 2D, and is optional payment.... I play it for nothing (As you do :P), but you can pay like $15US a month if ya want.... Oh, Hi all... and I\'m from Australia....
And be warned... I\'m considering applying as a Writer for the Planeshift Community......
BUAHAHAHAHA!
Just messing with ya.... I right good things like that.......
Til next time,

15$ for game with C64-like graphics ? Dear god ...
-
I was looking for MMORPGs, Google led me here. However, back then PlaneShift was not the first result of the search, it was even in the third page, I remember...
This was almost two years ago, in February 2002.
And Tibia has Commodore 128 graphics, not C64! :]
But in case you are wondering...No, I don\'t play it. :P
-
I\'ve asked in another forum what free mmorpg there where and someone said PS, so I went to take a look, and the pics where good. So I downloaded it.
-
I also joined before October, so no voting from me. I learned about this game from my cousin, Hevrah. I just went to his house one day and he was playing it, so I got home and d/l it.
OT: I think I have the best story :P

Crystal Space Mailing List

http://www.google.nl \'\'\'Free MMORPG\'\'
-
google search as lots of others have :P
-
OK from the beginning.
I am working on a project that is not unlike an eye toy but a lot more advanced. Seeing that this product would work well in the game arena, one function is to pull the third dimension from a picture at 30 frames a second, I started looking for an engine that I could make a demo with. Just a stupid rotating object but what the heck. This was about four years ago.
So I was looking at Crystal space for a few years. Then I saw this project start. Since I like this kind of game I stayed interested in it. So I?ve been looking at this project a lot longer than my post count /start date would indicate.
-
I grew tired of Tibia and Runescape, and I though it was time to find something more meaningful to play, so I put on the googles, and found Planeshift. :)
-
I was trying to get information about the network possibilities of Crystal Space and then Jorrit and thebolt suggested me to use for this purpose what has been done already in Planeshift.
With curiosity, I have found Planeshift through Crystal Space homepage and download the code.
And since I had a nice computer and a nice connection, I decided to install it and play it a bit!

stumbled across http://www.ograming.com and it was in one of the news articles. So i checked it out and now im staying :P
-
went to google.com and must\'ve had, like, 20 keywords. \"3D free Multiplayer Online RPG......\" Eventualy, I came across PS, and decided to stick with it. :D
-
My brother had been watching PS for a while and told me about it. Been playing it since January.
-
After I got sick of runescape :D I went to MMORPG.com and tried out a few betas. I noticed Planeshift, but I saw it wasn\'t near completion, so I didn\'t look into it. I played Thesa Online Beta for a while, but that got boring real quick. So while I was searching hopelessly for another free game, I came across Planeshift again and decided to check it out...and here I am 8)

Search engine: Google
-
Got sick of playing Savage Eden because the moderation was so lack luster and unprofessional so I googled my way over here.
-
Googled for \"Free MMORPG\", or something very similar.
-
Found it before October, but I did a search on SourceForge for \"rpg\".
-
I voted before I read the first post
I found it with the follwing gogle search.
\"Free+MMORPG+Open source\" :) I think it was like number five (5) ;)
-
I found out about PS from the Gentoo forums.
-
Well I had no way of playing it so I was actually searching for another beta. I eventually came across this site: http://www.betawatcher.com/
It took me 1 or 2 days of searching the site & I actually looked @ the website once & decided it wasn?t any good, then a day later I came across it again & noticed it was free. Then I checked out the website more & thought it was just what I was looking for!
Btw: BetaWatcher is a good site! It lead me here!
-
can\'t really remember it was such a long time ago.
-
google, just like most of the others:D
-
The game I usually play had its server down today,So while waiting for it to be fixed, I hit the internet looking for something to play.
all the games I came across were either horrible, or expensive, and when I saw this I was AMAZED that it hadnt cost money, the only thing I had seen like this that was free was Castle Wolfenstein Enemy Terrirory, Im still having some troubles downloading, But this game may be nice, compared to the 4.50 A month I pay at my other game.
-
Search engine. I was looking for free MMORPGs and Planeshift was one of the first to pop up.
-
Not that I can vote but I found it on Google when searching for a free MMORPG
-
I found it on yahoo search when I looked for free mmorpg
-
was searching for free mmorpg too
-
I was looking for a 3d sprite engine myself. I just quit EQ, and wanted to create something similar to PS, but I came across a site for Crystal Space and saw the screenshots for this game here. Soo, here I am. =)
-
I googled it but with a difference, I was looking at a group of mmorpgs, and downloaded a few, all of which I never played, then I was googling more, made a typo in my search thread, and an article about planeshift appeared, so here I am.
-
I read about Planeshift one of the http://anandtech.com forums.
-
I found it the way I find most things: by stumbling accross it while searching for totally different things. :)
It came up on a websearch, I think, for samba compatibility issues or something like that (don\'t remember exact terms). I noticed \"MMORPG\" and \"SourceForge\" in the link summary and there it had my attention. :) So it was by accident. (Therefore, I voted \"other\", even though it was a \"search engine\").
I didn\'t find a solution to the actual search, however.
Oh, btw., I then skimmed the news section and the april fools joke nearly made me go away, as I didn\'t look at the date and was reading \"middle-out\". Glad I came back the next day to check out what the new SF-egoshooter would be.
AND I\'M GLAD IT STILL IS A FANTASY MMORPG!!!
:)
-
Used google to search for free mmorpgs, and found some site which lists them (forgot its name... it was a very long time ago). Planeshift was on there and it looked promising.
And that was even before I registered on January 7th 2002 :]
-
hehe, another google search here. looked up free MMOs, and it gave me a link directly here.
-
Through a mmorpg/mmorpg emulator\'s website hehe =)
I was very lucky to find PS =D
-
I found it in MORPGD a multiplayer games directory!
http://www.mpogd.com/games/game.asp?ID=1418
-
I found Planeshift on http://www.onrpg.com browsing for free online roleplaying games... Planeshift cought my eye from the beginning, and I haven\'t stopped starring since :p
\"other\" seemed to be must fitting so that was what I voted
-
I also found it on http://www.onrpg.com Saw it somewhere else a while ago but did not take any notice. When I found it again I dloaded it. Really glad I did. :)
-
I was looking for something in Google and stumbled on PS one day...well i looked around and left...then couple months later i stumbled on it again...and looked more throughout...and tada i am here....
-
Well, I think I may have found it before october, but I really didnt start playing until February. This is because in the beginning I had RedHat and the stuff wouldnt compile right. Now I have gentoo, and I can just get the deps I need for it and I can compile it (I didnt emerge planeshift).
I found PS by looking around on sourceforge for MMORPGS and other games, and planeshift caught my eye.
-
A long long time ago I downloaded a game, no clue how I found it, I think sourceforge, walked around, shouted \"hello\", got no response, kept walking around, wanted to exit and distinctly remembered being asked if I wanted to return to \"normal boring life\", and then like 3-4 years later (really not sure about this), I found it again, but this time people were on.
-
A french free software website showed me the way to planeshift.
http://www.framasoft.org
A big \"thank you\" to framasoft for that!
-
What if coincidently i found it well trying to look up porno...NO I am kidding lol I was actually killing this guy i know and then when i went to l00t his wallet he had it written on his license ;)
-
I found it searching for free mmorpg on http://www.mmorpgitalia.it
I\'ve visited the site, I\'ve found it very interesting and one day I\'ll begin to play with you ...
-
errr sorry I was being stupid and I posted before I read the thread. I voted for search engine if you want to remove it.
-
This was one of the games which was listed on the mmorpg.com forums.
-
I just typed in FREE MMORPG & it turned up being the first one, I passed it a few times thinking there may be something a little better, but this is one the bests. Lines up with PristonTale.
-
found it on yahoo w/ the search \"free 3-d mmorpg\" it wasnt the first one but it had FREE and 3D in the title so i checked it pretty quick. ended up that all the other ones were crap anyway, and this one is awesome!
-
googled \"free mmorpgs\" after playing runescape since it started finaly got bored with it and moved on to planeshift
-
I was playing another MMORPG (PristonTale) then when the new patch came out you had to pay some everyone got pissed off and quit. So FESFES told me about this game.
-
I didn\'t find PS. PS found me when they were looking for a 3D engine :-)
Greetings,
-
I was browsing through SourceForge\'s repository of free games. I cant vote :{
-
linked from an anime forum.
-
I found it through http://www.mpogd.com, I typed it in their engine, and this came up, I went to the main site, and I was wowed by the graphics, but then I was really sad to find out it wasn\'t done, that really busted my chops
:(... let me add that one more time.... :(...
-
Better way to anounce double posts...if that is necessary at all...is to use edit option...:D
-
I found PS by accident I guess.
I was searching for something totally unrealated to PS and what I was looking for just happened to be in the PS forums. So I decided that I had might aswell check this game out.
-
Was searching with google for other 3D first person RPGs and this was top of the list.
-
It came to me in a dream
-
looked for some art sutff and fout that by accident now im stuck here in th forum )))
-
Google. c o m

http://www.mpogd.com. This site is about mmog. I was searching for a completly free rpg.
-
I found PS through google a loooong time ago when it was too buggy to play. I kinda forgot about it though :P
PS how cool Im the reason some of you are playing ps!:) I told acraig about mpogd^_^ (on rpg too)
-
hmmmm... i found it by searching for \"open source mmorpg\" on source forge does that mean i found it by using a searc engine or sourceforge?
-
Id say sourceforge since its in their database
-
I found crystal space at freshmeat and wanted to see how it looked like. Because the documentenation at that time didn\'t clearly state how to start the demo, I figured to compile planeshift and look what crystal space could do. Needless to say my motivation to run planeshift changed a little bit over time;)
-
I friend told me about a year ago :).
if he didint tell me though I would have found it anyway through google.

Searching for MMORPGs under linux using google :)
-
Searched for \"Best Linux Game\" or something in google, then found this poll on happy penguin:
http://www.happypenguin.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=500
Then googled for planeshift. (back in August 04 or so)
-
Found it with a search engine under \"free MMORPG\".
-
through mmorpg.com
i was looking for a game just like PS, when i read their review and saw some screens, i downloaded the game =D
-
Searched for \"Free MMORPG\" in yahoo.com.
-
I think it was on suse 6.something :)
-
mpogd.com is where i found it...btw its nice to see it updated there.I know it said since october lol but i figured id answer anyway.
-
found it about a year ago with the all mighty google
-
i went to http://www.mmorpg.com and looked under a topic that said \"free mmo list\" scrolled down, and saw this. came to the website and thought it looked pretty cool :)
-
I think it was on suse 6.something
It came with the OS? Don\'t the Planeshift Devs have to agree to that since the art is licensed?
-
Not that I know, but I would guess that they \"put it in\" the same way they have with the nvidia drivers...
An option to download it, followed by the license agreement..
Just a guess
-
I found it surfing the net :)
-
I started playing EQ during the first week of release. Back in 1999, my friends and I who were playing EQ were thinking we should start a free MMORPG. We were thinking we could slip in corporate logos as sponsors, but it was more of a Blade Runner scenario.
We spent lots of time kicking back drinking coffee thinking about the possibilities and we didn?t think it would be appreciated, soo we just kept playing EQ.
Recently, I stopped EQ, I got bored mostly. It bothered me that I would have to cancel my account to stop paying and it was at a risk that in 5 months my 65 Shaman could poof, 5 years of creation down the toilet. It would be much nicer to think, \"well at this time in my life I don\'t have the time to play, maybe this summer\".
So, since I\'m not playing EQ any more, I downloaded the latest Red hat DVD ISO and prepared to finally do what I always wanted to do, get rid of Microsoft from my pc. As I sat down I thought to myself, \"What kinds of games can I play on Linux?\". I typed in Google \"Linux MMORPG\" it directed me to \"http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/showthread.php?s=&forumid=1&threadid=243973\" and blamo.....Here I am
I personally don?t see what I could contribute to this project, but I seriously want to help if I can think of anything. I am excited for you folks......
(Gawd, I love Open-source, Thank you Torvalds)
-
One of the fine folks on the forum at anandtech.com clued me in to planeshift. This is a great source for PC help and hot deals. :)
-
I found this game late last summer, early fall, while searching for free 3d mmorpg\'s on google. I was reading through a forum topic that had come up in the searches and somone was talking about PS and how great it was. They couldnt have been more wrong, i was extremely impressed when i first logged in
*edit* i meant\'t to say right instead of wrong, but thats what i get for writing things while im tired after a really long day of class/work.
-
Not to be nit picky but your post is an oxy-moron.
You say that they were talking about how great it was and then say they were wrong and follow it with the fact that you love it??! ?(
Perhaps you should edit it so it makes more...whats the word...sense.
-
It was more of a contradiction than an oxymoron... \"Military Intelligence\" is an oxymoron
Samoth, that seems like a Shameless advertisement to me... is that really where you heard of PS?
-
Bizarrely I was searching for info on a blue screen related to a particular SB driver and someone referenced it on the game site. Had a look and decided to give it a try.
-
hey all mates :) I\'m a new member... :)
-
welcome to the PS community
-
I just found out about Planeshift from Betawatcher.com.
Looks like a good time to get in (just before CB and as WoW open beta is ending).
-
Hmm, well you seem to be Ok (Esspecially because choosing some aesthetic names, not like !234 or so)
I\'m maybe as new as you.
MMORPG.com or something like that, I\'m not sure
-
google is your friend. so is open source. \\m/
-
I found about Planeshift on www.onrpg.com
-
i just found it yesterday looking in gamespot for betas and this popped up and looked to be the best :)
-
Doing google searches on MMORPG\'s Pays off :) ive found lots of MMORPG\'s but most of them are in 2d or u have to p2p and sometimes both.
-
mmorpg.com
-
Google.
-
Same as almost everyone. Google search. It was on the top of the list.
-
I found out about planeshift on a games cd called 101 pc games that I bought from the shop. I saw this game called planeshift. I installed it, played it, liked it and now it is one of my favourite games.
have fun, Verideon
-
Yeah cool they are selling planeshift !
I first was warned PS exists thanks to a french website http://www.lea-linux.org . It\'s a famous one... I remembered it exists thanks to google... even if I don\'t really like this search engine...
-
took me so long to reply but I found this game using Yahoo search engine...
-
Google.
-
Googled MMORPG and PS was on the third page.
-
It;s all about the sourceforge all though i have been following it for years silently wow has this project come along way
-
Two days ago being bored i typed \'MMORPG + free\' in google, and it was the first thing i clicked on, and loved it :D (considering i spent the whole night before searching for a way to spare myself from boredom, but either it was single-player, or didnt have lots of char development, or wasnt free, or not fantasy... haha i\'m picky... yes...and i talk way too much lol)
-
Searched google too! so far it is the best free mmorpg out there!
its opensourced which means its always evolving into something better!
There aint nothing like it!
-
Through searching mmorpgs for linux :) and mmorpg.com.
But also earlier then October, I had some breaks and comebacks :).
-
someone on another gaming forum told me about it
-
i was on Gamesdex.com (game directory) looken for sumthen to play since wulfram was getting boring :P
-
I had been playing another \"free\" RPG (and grew tired of it after completing all of the free quests) I decided to see what other free RPGs were out there. Google returned with a site called onrpg.com, and I found PS on that site.
-
I was looking around google for \'free mmorg\' when this weird site caught my eye. It had several games on it. I looked down the list i saw \'PlaneShift\'. It looked better than the rest, so i downloaded it. i played a little, and found it to be wonderful, but buggy. I found it messed with my computer, so i uninstalled and deleted it. 1 year later, with a new comp, i looked for new games. I found it again and have been here ever since.
-
a drunk guy told me :P
I know it\'s strange but...
-
I was a bored little turd, and while the Conquer server went down
I searched for some mmorpg on google...
found a forum and they were discussing this place!
Hah... yeah, so that\'s how I found it :P

-
I found it on an article magazine (B Gamer ----> its portuguese) an year ago and dont care much..
But since 6 months ago im playing it :P..
-
I just searched free mmorpg on google:P
-
First in a (nonlinked) article someplace on line. Then /. posted about it, and because of that, it too me several days to download the game. Then today, i realized I\'d have to download the whole new beta, and that took a while.;)
By the time I relized I should run the Updater, it was down. Hopwefully I\'ll be able to see the world sometime this week. It sounds very cool. :P
Oh, and yes. This is my first post. Hello all! Pleased to meet you :]
-
Other:I found it on mpogd.com, looking for free mmorpgs [or was there some news about planeshift on the main page? That was quite a while ago... :)]
-
it was posted on the Net Yaroze newsgroups as a site we might be interested in - so uhhh, from there :)
-
found MB in the portage tree of gentoo.
-
i have found ps via http://www.betawatcher.com/ great site ;)
-
I searched for free 3d 1st/3rd person MMORPG et voil?, PS MB.
-
I think my Everquest subscription expired and it would be a few days before I could resubscribe, so I went searching for free mmorpg\'s... tada. Now a year later I\'m bored of Everquest and just randomly remembered planeshift.it so I\'m back. :-D
-
Do you people realise that this thread was started just a little more than a year ago? This is the longest lasting thread that I have seen in along time.
Me?
Found it back when it was at AB (where? I don\'t know, their was only 2 people online so I uninstalled it and forgot about it.
Then about 10-11 months ago I found it again on google, Installed it, played it for quite a long time, ran out of hard drive space so uninstalled it, forgot about it.
A month after then I remembered it again and started checking the website everyday (this was JAN/FEB 2004) until CB was released!
Then at about October last year (which was 2004 for you forgetful people), I got bored and downloaded the Linux package to see if I could compile it under Cygwin, failed at that. a couple of days later I downloaded the Windows package and played it for a couple of days, then uninstalled it.
Then CB was released, tryed to download it that night, was unsuccessfully for about a week(I am on 56k) then downloaded it on a T1 connection and finally got it in time for new years.
In total that is about 1 GB (Probably less) just for planeshift. That is alot on 56k.
Now for what you all wanted to hear......I sellected google!
-
I heard about it on the slashdot podcast.
-
I originally started out playing RuneScape by Jagex LTD. out of England. However, the game was p2p, and Jagex doesn\'t seem to care about anyone who doesn\'t send them $$$... hmm sounds kinda like Micro$oft... Annnywaayy... I decided to Google Free MMORPG and came across PS at some point in Oct.
-
I found it several months ago, in June, perhaps. I actually found PS through GameSpot, in their Beta Center section. It was under the \"Open Beta,\" so i decided to check it out. And am thrilled with it! :D
-
I was looking for a free MMORPG to play and i search for it on Engine. List of names and i saw this site. I liked it so i registred me. :-D
-
a friend showed me PS back in the time of Molecular Blue, i\'ve been hooked since
-
I found PS through anpther game\'s Forum.
A very unhappy player & his wife were leaving that other title; & were kind enough to let the rest of us know why & where to find your great game.
Sorry for their grief, but very grateful that they pointed me, my Spouse, & others to PlaneShift.
Viva la PlaneShift! :+)
-
Friend of mine at work said of man you gotta try this. So now i play everynow and again, and get mauled by rats
-
I was helping another player with it last summer (MB tech support). I had spotted it at Sourceforge already and took an interest. When CB went public I was on in a few days. Currently working off the need to play, so that I can take more interest in helping out.
-
oh geez, how did i find ps? about a year ago i did a 24 hour net crawl for free rpg\'s [a 24 hour net crawl is when i lock myself in, drink way too much caffeine, eat pizza and search the web for information about a single subject for 24 hours]
i dug through forums warez sites search engines rpg sites mmo sites, the whole works out of all that i found and tried ps was one of the best and one of the only two i still play.
-
Originally a friend had pointed it out to me, but a client for my platform hadn\'t been released yet and wasn\'t looking to do so anytime soon. So I bookmarked it and forgot it.
Months later, a client was compiled and the news popped up in a mac community forum (http://www.spymac.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=151299), so here I am.
-
Googled \'free mmorpg\' found onrpg.com looked, downloaded 8 different \'free\' rpg\'s got sick of bull from the first 2 onto ps, stuck with it since :D
-
I am pretty sure I found Planeshift on http://www.mpogd.com :)
(and I probably found -that- from various Google searches along the lines of free online rpg, online mmorpg, open source mmorpg, etc. ^^ )
-
I found PS through the Dark Basic programming forums. It was all by coincidence actually, I thought it was a topic about PlanetSide. Let\'s just say I was pleasantly surprised. :D
-
It was a discussion of how some guy paid $26500 USD for a piece of real-eastate in another MMORPG that is free to play, but lets you exchange real world cash for in-game items and vice versa. Its pretty amazing to think that for a weekend of playing computer games you can earn hundreds or even thousands of dollars, what a job!! I\'ve heard of people selling Everquest items on ebay and so on, heard all sorts of stories about Ultima Online, but had never checked out any sort of graphical mmorpg before.. though I was into muds in the late 90\'s.

One post suggested that people investigate this opensource mmorpg that runs under linux called Planeshift, I jumped aboard the Molecular Blue bandwagon about 4 days before the server was downed in a pre-Crystal Blue migration phase, and havent looked back since!

Hi!
Since I had to pick other, I will elaborate. I found it through Slashdot
Dave M
-
I\'ve chosen the option \"Other\", because the first time I read about PlaneShift was in a Portuguese games magazine (BGamer).
-
I found it on Google whilst searching for \'Open Source MMORPG\' whilst I was looking at examples of networking code :D
-
Me its My wife who have find the Game Of My Life on google iremember when i have see the screenshot ..... ;)
-
thank you \'o\' mighty google!
-
on the xfire forums, just serched for free game :)
-
I don\'t remember how I have found PS, but I bet it was Google, because I
(ab)use Google alot. :-)
Regards.
-
i think i heard about PS from a friend on irc, actually i am doing the same and tell all macusers that i know about this wonderfull project
-
A friend told me more than 1.5 years ago. I\'m him still thankfull for that :).
-
I voted for \"Game News Website\" and was via the Apple web site.
-
To my experience, in my area most people learn about PS by word-of-mouth. I know that at least two of my friends were told about PS by a friend (me) in the last two months, but I\'m afraid that Runescape is very popular here. I am just about the only real PS fan here. That I know of, at least.
-
Well there\'s nothing like ol\' google power! In the beginning of this year (2005) i thought to myself well it\'s about time to find some mmorpg to play... and a free one (I know... i\'m a cheap bastard :() so f(google): free + mmorpg = planeshift! and here I am!
-
I heard about it from a friend and i am thankful to him.
-
I found it pretty much the same way as Moty. Only difference is I still use yahoo, so.... It WAS in bold tho which made it seem promising =P
-
Indeed, from a mag. Linux Format to be specific.
-
I was browsing through the downloads (http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/games/role_strategy/planeshift.html) section at Apple, looking for freeware/shareware games and found PS.
-
Was looking for something else on the Wikipedia and stumbled across a reference to the game
-
My friend had told me about it when it was still MB, but thought crystal hunting was to boring and didn\'t stick with it and I joined again when CB cam online (on my birthday LOL)
-
Lets see. *long intresting story including him dangling from a cliff*
Yep. Google shure saved me that day...
-
macgamefiles :D
-
i searched for mmorpg on http://www.sf.net
-
i was looking for good games to download on http://www.apple.com, when i found PS, and its the best game i have ever found.
-
I found it on mmorpg.com
-
One of my friends saw me playing Runescape, and showed me this game back in January. The amazingly superior graphichs and setting kept me interested until I got a chance to rebuild my computer in May(the old one couldn\'t possibly handle it). It was the first thing I installed after the drivers.
-
I found it on torrentreactor, it was the game with the most seeds, so I looked for it in google, then d/l it.
-
Search Engine 8 months ago... I didn\'t really get into it much though. I am now trying to get into it again and spent 4 hours last night playing.... it was great!
-
was browsing games on mininova and this had about 8,000 seeds. the next closest had about 124. Seemed like it had to be a hell of a game and it is.

Me too
-
...I am a Mac user. I don\'t use my machine for games(generally).
I checked the -games listings on the OS X download site. It seemed interesting. I try a lot of freeware...but never a game...
this great...and*sigh* addictive...
-
I was discussing MMORPGs with some gaming buddies. I told them that i rarely have tried them because of subscriptions and so forth. I decided to google \"free MMORPG\" and found this one.
Ten minutes later I had downloaded the client from torrent. One day later client updated..all hell breaks loose :)
I pretty much have spent every waking hour since then playing or checking the server status. I read the player manual and the bulk of the informative threads ahead of time and was quite pleased at how prepared I was for the game. I was forced to ask 2-3 newb questions and get some help for mining location at the magic shop, but other than that it has been very easy to adapt.
This game has ruined me and I am officially an addict. I had no idea they were this fun and I\'ve enjoyed meeting many of you online already. I\'ve been at it 4-5 days now and I can\'t imagine what life was like pre-PS. lol.
I am currently debating whether to tell my buddies about this game or keep it to myself. I am afraid the role-playing will suffer if people I know already IRL, are in the game with me.
-
:D My husband wouldn\'t shut up about it! So I had to check it out. ;) Now he won\'t shut up about me playing...
/me thinks how ironic
-
A Search engine, in my case.
This friend of mine has just recently turned to MMORPGs and was curious to know what was on the Net that was free. We both got together and spent a whole night just looking through search engines and such, and taking sneak peeks at several more promising games.
Both he and I ended up creating characters for PS, but while I am here to stay (for the time being, at least), he seems to be on the verge of dropping his character here and instead going for Project Entropia with his heart and soul. I can\'t say I blame him. If I had a credit card (which I don\'t have, and if you find that strange, don\'t; it\'s not all *that* uncommon over here) I might now be over at Project entropia instead of here.
It just looks *so* nifty 8)
But alas, you guys are stuck with me :P
-
search for free mmorpg
-
I found this game a hell of a long time ago not 3 months ago woops lol. but i found it on a search engine. PS has gotten so better over the years. i stopped playing it because i forgot about it but now i remembered it again and its looks way cool.
-
I found this game about 5-6 months after it was playable on a search engine and i played for 2 months, then i was getting bored of running around collecting crystals so i quit and about a month ago i started playing again :D
-
Found Ps here : http://play-free-online-games.com/games/games_rpg.htm
about 2 weeks ago.
-
I found out about this game about 3 years ago. I\'ve been very curious about the open source community then, and especially the gaming sector. PS is a wonderful example of a community working towards a goal.
I haven\'t played the game in several years, but I eagerly check back on the PS site for new developments. I was an avid Star Wars Galaxies player, and now play WoW, but that does not mean I will turn my back on PS. I will be logging in again soon to give it a go! :)

IF YOU HAVE FOUND PS SINCE OCTOBER, please answer the poll and post your thoughts.
Thanks,
- Venge
I did a google. This was one of the games I tried out. The second or third, actually. I didn\'t bother to finish going through the list I made, which I should probably do.
-
Hello,
I found PlaneShift on Apple\'s website in the games downloads section. I had been searching for an interesting RPG, and PS certainly fit that!
-
yup a google search for Free MMORPG it was for me too
-
Kiirani\'s been talking at me about how great it was over here, esp. compared to runescape (lots of rs refugees around here, it seems :D) I finally decided to wander by and check it out, loved what I saw, so decided to give the actual rp\'ing in an rpg a shot....

^_^ See? I\'m adding valuable members to the community!
-
Well, the \"valuable\" part remains to be seen, lol
-
i found it on http://www.onrpg.com/ after searching google for MMORPG Beta
-
LINUX+ Magazine, 6 months ago, there been a lot changes!
-
i found PS thru the Mac OSX games search
-
I didn\'t vote (because of the time), but wow, I can\'t even remember. I think it was onrpg.com or something, I was just going through the list :D
-
i also didn\'t vote but a year or so ago i googled for free online games and it came up so hurray for google. One of the best games ive ever played.
-
Ive been playing like crazy so i really cant remember how long ive been playing, how ever i do know how i got in touch of PS
My girlfriends brother was playing the silly game every day pretty much every minute of the game so i couldnt miss it.
i looked at it a few times and it didnt look interesting..
however out of curiosity i downloaded it and took a try in it, he helped me out a lot with swords and money and i was one hell of a good noob ;)
now ive grown to the position of one who can help noobs a lot. so i do sometimes..specially female noobs...we really need them ;)
thats my story about how i got in touch of PS
i still love to play it and its always aweful to see \"fail 100%\"
;)
-
Hi, I have been enchanted with this world although I really should stop wandering aroung just saying hello and sounding a bit short on experience!
I hope to see this game grow into a fine place to experience a fantasy lifestyle.
And hopefully my friend will decide he needs a *free* game to play instead of spending ?20 per month.
Diesel1.

I guess I should finally respond.
Umm, I played version .2.010 as I just found the executable on one of my back up cd\'s. (Backup is good, remember that)
If I remember right, I was searching for a free game to test and this one popped up, but shortly after I was asked to beta test another game. (I beta test quite alot, not just online games, board games, etc , as well) so I didn\'t pick it up again til last august. Right when the players all got wiped. Been playing it since, well, was, until I met a wonderful person. Now it\'s everynow now and then when I can sneak in.
-
free +mac +MMORPG
-
I have to thank Acheronista for turning me on to PS.
I first met him when i was toying around with Linux and he sent me a link. I have been an addict ever since day 1.
-
I found it by gooogle on a website called http://play-free-online-games.com/games/games_rpg.html this site list on line games.
I found it in October, but did not at the time have the ram to play it. I got the ram In decmber and started playing.
-
Found it via search engine but for those who like to keep up on the MMORPGs out there, here is an excellent site:
http://www.mmorpg.com
Check out the \"Game List\" tab and get info on each game. Sort by clicking on headers.
-
I found it from Wikipedia (http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Planeshift)
-
While randomly looking around on a torrent site (TPB). Glad I found it!
};->
-
I noticed it had 15000 seeds on someplace who\'s name escapes me though it wouldn\'t download so i googled it and got it from the planeshift site.
-
A friend of mine told me to play Runescape, so I searched for it and PS came up. I read some reviews about it and seen that it focused on RP more than Runescape did. Well, needless to say, I never once logged onto Runescape and am quite glad that I found PS. :-)
-
I needed a break from Conquer Online 2 (another MMORPG), did a google search, and bumped into PS, and since it works on my mac, now I can play on two computers semi-simultaneously. Though, since CO2 has no RP:ing people in it, I think I\'ll stick with PS.

Yep, pretty much the same for me :)
Something similar, only that I went on google and typed, \"Top MMORPGS\" and popped up with this website and found that PS was number one, looked at screenshots and was amazed. :D Before I used to play \"Runescape\" but that game extremely sucked. I can\'t believe I play that game for a year. [Scolds himself] \"HOW DARE YOU, AHRIMAN!\"
Anyway, I have been an addict since day one, playing 4-5 hours a day... Sometimes all day, which is 12 hrs on weekends... Yea, i\'m THAT crazy.
-
Guess mine is not as common as I would have thaught. The other day I was on a torrent site and stats showed this game being #1 on a top ten of downloads by alot! So I got curious and looked you guys up and saw how interesting it looked so now trying it out. This game must be getting alot of attention now seeing as to how many people were trying to get it!
-
I was looking for an alternative to my anti-drug drug, RO, and I found it by searching Google and being led to a big site all about MMORPGs.
That was back at the beginning of 2003 :D
Sadly, back then, my computer wasn\'t good enough to play so I waited 3 years to build myself a computer to be able to play.
The end.
-
I hate thinking about back then....back when I played RuneScape. Ew....anyway, I found it in a Google search I think.

Jesus Link! Don\'t say the R-word ;)
I found link to this rpg from insidemacgames forum.
-
Actually I play since December 2004 so I did not vote.
I found the game by typing \"free mmorpg mac\" in google. At the time I discovered it there was no Mac version yet.
P.S.: I never tried the R-game .... :D
-
Ahh, oh so long ago, I searched for \'Free 3d mmorpg\' on google...There were like 2 or 3 projects whose description were EXACTLY the same, identical to planeshift\'s, and the first one i looked at was totally bogus so i just assumed they all were. Then another day I did the same search and noticed the site now had a different description, and here I am today. ;)
EDIT: Whoop, didn\'t notice the \'since october\' bit.
-
It just sort of happened. I clicked on something and i found it.
