This game\'s graphics look so good i dont think it will work on my com =/.
-
what better reason to upgrade
-
Does anyone know what the sys requirements are for the game yet? ?(
-
Hi,
I\'m the project manager of Crystal Space (the 3D engine used by PlaneShift if you didn\'t know).
I can clarify a bit about system requirements. I think PlaneShift will work acceptible on something better than a P-II 350 with 64Megs RAM. A 3D card will of course help a lot but even without that it should work (although then a bigger processor will be better).
Of course, all depends on how you define \'acceptible\' :-)
Greetings,
-
Cool, well, thanks for the info, i didn\'t read up on the engine, it\'s all a bit over my head :)
-
Hmm.. another question about the req\'s..
Will PS run on Windows XP? (if not i wont install it next week)
-
I hope it will run on my copy of XP corporate.....btw, if you are going to use XP, use XP professional corporate, like me. Its by far the best edition, and you don\'t have the annoying register with Microsoft thing. Which, of course, is why I have that version.....I plead the fifth!
-
well atleast i will get the pro edition.. i wont install a home edition... to sucky..
i hope it wont crash as much as my computer does now :(
-
Crystal Space runs on Windows 95, 98, NT3.5, NT4, W2K, and WinXP. Crystal Space also runs on Linux. Those are the platforms that PlaneShift directly supports.
Crystal Space supports more platforms so in theory it should be possible to port PlaneShift to say MacOS/X or BeOS.
Greetings,
-
w00t Montenegro
i have same thing and can second that it its the best
-
Pfew..
then i can put XP on my comuter... (i hope i wont have a blue screen every 10 minutes then.. maybe they\'ve colored them green this time :D )
-
then it should work on my coms =).
-
man your computer must suck!
those textures where cheap and over used.
my gforce 2 pumps out textures 10x more detailed. I seriously pity you if you think those gfx where excellent
-
cm, watch your mouth, your graphics card may handle those graphics, but ur computer probably couldnt. if uve ever modeled, you would realize even if u could add great detail, it would freeze even the fastest comps...
-
yeah.. it isnt only the grapics.. your computer should also be able to handle lots of other things like the movements of all the other players in the realm and stuff like that, that the server sends to your computer..
i also have a GEforce2 in my computer.. but at a simple 2d mmorpg my computer had some hard times too... (when all off the sudden 200 monsters and 50 players showed up in an event :)) )

Greetings,
YAARRRRGGGGHHHH, I HAVE A P-II with 64Megs RAM and a 3D CARD.

gforce3 here.....

I have a PIII with 128MB of RAM and a crap video card I\'ve never heard of in a laptop, and I develop Planeshift. That means I often run the server and a couple of clients at a time all on my little laptop.
I don\'t get many frames per second sometimes, but it works. :-)

If you don\'t get many frames per second, I\'ll probably won\'t get many frames per minute!
-
Will it work on my Athlon XP 1600+ with 512 MB DDR ram, 64 MB DDR GeForce 3? :D
I have a 56k modem tho, from New Zealand. That\'s what I\'m worried about, major lag.
-
I\'m sure your 56K will work.
Mine however, is a 19.2K. So I doubt I will be able to play.
-
Does Planeshift work on a Pentium II computer
with 333 mhz and 64 mb Ram and
Ati 3d rage pro( 3d card).
If it doesn?t work
then i wont have anything to do after school.
And on Planeshifts website
it is written on features site, that Planeshift works on Amiga. I maybe have wrong but i have heard that the most Amigas
are very old and does n?t have these system requirements.
-
Posted bt Jorrit.. IN THIS THREAD (so next time read first)

I think that will explain the system req\'s.. it will probably work on your computer if you have got a nice connection..
Anout the amiga thing...
they are talking about Windows, Linux, etc.. and Amiga..
Those things are all Operations systems...
Amiga used to be a gaming-computer a long time ago.. (atleast thats what a friend of me claims :)) ) But now amiga has got a OS.. AmigaOS 3.9
So the PS team means that PS will also run with that OS.. they dont mean the old Amiga computer..
-
um u sure urs is 19.2k?
cause im pretty sure they dont make those and if u had 1... it would take u like 5 min to load this page with all the sigs
-
PS will absolutely NOT run on an Amiga.
I\'m not sure what the website says, but no one is working on anything but Linux and Windows.
Any experienced coders from other platforms are welcome to join in and port, however. :-)

-
I agree, the only operating systems anyone use today are Windows, MacOS and Linux, in that order. The crystal space engine supports more platforms but there will not be a release of the actual game for them, unless you want to build one yourself.
As vengeance says, if you are an experianced coder and you want to port, feel free to join the team. But for now, dont expect it to run on anything besides Windows and Linux directly. The site is wrong in that we _support_ those platforms, as I have no idea how to offer support for AmigaOS users. :)
-
My Commodore Amiga 500 has better graphics than my486dx2 with 80 mhz and 12mb ram.
The Amiga I got when I was 5, that was twelve years ago, the amiga had 0.8 mb ram, I don\'t know about the megahertz but I can say that it wasn\'t high.
The amiga manages 16000 colours, thats optimising.
The last amiga that was made had a mhz of 120, don\'t know about the memory, but I think that it can compete with the best.
-
Ok my computer seriously blows, its 633 MhZ , 128 MB RAM, and i think it HAS a 3D card but my FPS on it suck immensely.... does the game have a significant difference between 3d and 2d graphic cards? ?(

What net speed do you guys suggest playing on?
ADSL
CABLE
56K?
Will the game be able to sustain under 56k connection?

Showoff... *grumble* That\'s kinda like driving your souped-up Lamborghini exclusively in 40kph speedtraps, isn\'t it? Lots of power, but you can\'t go very fast...
Me, I\'m driving my Yugo on the Autobahn... ;)
-
I\'m sure it will work with that, but it will work even better on my XP 2100+ and GF4 Ti4600! :D
-
Well i bet itll work way better on my...........laptop? ?( nah but im happy as long as it works on windows ME. so HALLELUJAH!
-
WHAUUU!!! Planeshift will work on my computer!!
I love my computer!!!
-
My computer is a PIII 1gHz with 256 megs of ram and a geforce 3 with 64 megs of ram, I think it will work, but im a bit concerned about the 56k. :(
Oh well, I guess we\'ll have to see then.
-
Heh PdogNZ your PC is almost the same as mine, sept mines a 1900+, you didnt happen to get yours from the PC company?...
Since my components are all crap ones, dispite there web site listing there suppliers as all top notch ones, i only got my PC from them due to teh component manufacturers... instead of a maxotr HD i got a Seagate.. instead of a Leadtech GC, I got a Chainteck!!!... Ive left it to late to complain... the PC works fine. Ill probably buy a Geforce 4 ina year or 2 any way...
Just to add, you should invest in a graphics card if you havent got one or you have one of the older 8-16meg ones, the 32meg ones are cheap now days and are of good quality for money. If you dont upgrade you cant realy complain if current games dont play well or at all on your machine. Now days graphic cards are more inportant than CPU speed, unless your using programes like 3Dsmax and Director etc which rely on CPU speed and ram. Graphic cards do alot of the work anyway in games.
Im sortta in awe at the lack of knowledge about Computers alot of you guys seem to display. They still manufacture modems that slow?... 3D cards are far faster than 2D cards, however now days they make very few seprerate, there all 2d/3d combos, graphic cards take teh work load off the CPU in calcualting and displaying the 3D information so it can get down to teh nitty gritty of doing the intensive maths not involved with graphics.
The Modem has nothing to do with how a game plays graphicaly, what it does effect is how things move on your screen... an example of this is in Everqeust... say you have an orc moving along the screen, if your net signal is cut off for a second or you get a bunch of packet drops (basicly bits of imformation that never make it to your computer and get lost in the net somewhere) the orc will continue to move along in its last known direction (if the programme has a fuzzy prediction system in it) yor computer is sortta adlibing what the orc is doing since its not getting any new updated info on teh orcs location in 3d space so it keeps moving it forward, but if that orc happened to turn or go another way during teh time there is packet lose or network latency going on (ie Lag) when you finaly get the singal going again the computer has to take teh new location of the orc the server sends it, which results in teh orc suddenly teleporting to a differant spot than where you saw it last... the orcs framerate and every thing else would not be effected by this, it would move and animate as smoothly as your graphics card would allow as your computer would be doing all that it\'s self rather than having to get that information over the network every second from teh server. Play a real online Game to get what i mean like Quake3 EverQuest or DaoC.
-
Im sure it wil work on my AMD XP 2000+ on an EPoX 8K3a, 256 Mb DDR @ 333Mhz, GeForce 3 ti 200 and with a ADSL connection :D
-
From the screenshots that I\'ve seen.. some of you are going to get REALLY low fps. Some of the screen\'s are comparable to RTCW. And RTCW is one of the best looking games ever made... thus far. I got 850mhz AMD Athlon with 398meg ram and a TNT1.. and that game averages about 11 fps. If any of you don\'t know.. 11 fps is TERRIBLE.
Now I know I get the low fps because of my video card (I actually have a GeForce 2 mx that I can\'t use because I need a more powerful power supply), but I think some of you with less than a 500 or 600mhz processor are gonna have some problems. Even with a very good video card, the slow processors are gonna take alot away from it.
I could be wrong.. because I\'m basing this on the Quake engine, and PlaneShift is using a totally different engine. So we\'ll see when the test comes out I guess.
-
Will there be a way for everybody to change the detail settings like picmip, character detail, dynamic lighting etc. through the game itself? (if this is known at this point)
-
Don\'t expect high speeds in the first version. CS still needs a lot of optimization in this area. I\'m working on that right now. So when you run the tech demo for the first time, keep in mind that in future speed will be better. I promise you that :-)
Greetings,
-
Will do. :]
