Title: Lock on and Targeting Systems
Post by: Zaknafein on January 18, 2004, 04:28:23 am
This might have been posted a few times, but I don\'t go that far in the forums.

What about lock on and targeting systems?

Targeting: Only for arrows and other long range stuff.

Lock on:Anything your little heart desires. Fists, swords, clubs, staffs, blah blah blah.

That would be a lot better, say when in Morrowind you shoot an arrow through the enemy and hes not dead, thats so LAME.
A targetting system would be better, but is also means that you always hit your target and in that way luck would be out of the question, and skill point too.

I think morrowind pulls it off perfect. maybe you never updated yours but if you do the arrows just go in a totally random direction if you miss. Targetiting systems are too clunky and slow to use in a mmorpg. something like morrowind or pristontale should be used.

No, targeting just helps you aim. Maybe you can slightly miss him or sumthin. A lock on system, your enemy might run to the back of you(if they are intelligent) and you can miss, but the enemy is still in your sight.

Zelda had a wonderful targeting system.  Though it was not MMO, it was RPG.

yes but you didnt always have to have targeting. you could just wave your sword around and kill stuff. having targeting makes game play appear to be much slower.

well because of lag i dont think real time targeting will work that well i think we will end up with something like never winter nights which is not all that bad

Yes it always should the target but depends what it is.

It maybe a little fast monster, that should be hard to hit and it should be able to dodge alot. If its a zombie and the person cant hit it with a sword(from diablo)? The person must be inaccurate or the zombie must be bery fast. :D

Another thing you should be able to hit the evil buildings. Imagine a person unable to hit something that is stationary :P they are supposed to be heroes! not people that have nocoordination!!!
