Title: Stupid question
Post by: Conan on April 04, 2002, 03:06:41 pm
I know this is a stupid question but is this game playable off line? I\'ll be very happy if it is, but i think it isn\'t.

hey buddy, its playable offline, read this:

The objective of the PlaneShift Team is to create a virtual fantasy world in which a player can start as a peasant in search of fame and become an hero. We will focus our efforts in the reproduction of a real world with politics, economy, many non-player-characters controlled by the server that will bring to life our world even without players connected !

3D graphics and sounds for an immersive experience
Support for nearly all platform (Windows 32-bit, Unix, GNU/Linux, Macintosh, Amiga, BeOS, NextStep, OpenStep, Rhapsody and OS/2)
Support of Direct3D, DirectX, Glide, OpenGL, software rendering (if you don\'t have an hardware accellerator)
Easy interaction with other players through messages and chat
Drag-n-drop objects between world and inventory

i think your misunderstood that bold text you put there... i think they ment that a person could have a fun time if there were only 3 people connected to the server and stufff, like there will be alot of quest and junk like that. they would be stupid to allow people to play offline because that would mean that there characters stats would be hosted on the players computer and if that were to happen you would get people editing there stats or screwing around with stuff

now if you still dont beleive me read this

\"many non-player-characters controlled by the server that will bring to life our world even without players connected!\"

this is what you quoted and if your read it carefully you will see that the characters are control by the SERVER  and in order for that to happen they would have to be connected to the INTERNET

Pencil boy :) is very right yeah..
and about the offline character creation... You can only create him offline... it doesnt say you can play with him offline...
and besides.. whats the point of an mmorpg that is played offline?

i\'ve already read and understand that information. What it is i meant was that you won\'t be doing any actual playing offline. Sure if you wanna make your character and staire at the screen go head (whatever floats your boat)

It\'s character generation, it probably means you can GENERATE (i.e. make) your character offline.

but wouldn\'t they need a copy of the games server software or whatever to make it work? and wouldn\'t they program the game only to recognize there servers
