Title: I"m a fanart MACHINE!!
Post by: Kintall on January 22, 2004, 07:34:21 pm
I was waiting on a download looking at a PS picture, then  I looked at my drawing tablet...then at the photoshop icon...again at the feline woman from PS...and suddenly I was overcome by a sudden urge to do this...

and anyway if I had allover fur i\'d get around in the nuddy all the time :)

to compensate for this misunderstanding I drew a fully clothed Enki, sorta preisty magey looking...thing :)

It shows.

Anyway, the guy with the robe looks a lot better, though you could be a little more creative with the gradients on the robe, especially the left sleeve.

The female enk on the current cover art of the game is just wearing a small cloth over her lower area.  So that\'s pretty normal, at least in one concept of the game.

Hey Kintall, I love your Seperot pic! :) But I also see it isn\'t what his character is supposed to look like. (I didn\'t see the original previous posts, so I can\'t comment on those) Still, you are a marvelous artist. Perhaps you would like to try your hand at a sketch of my character some time? You can see what she looks like in the CG coloured picture in my art thread, the one with the sunset background and butterflies.

Still, if you want a general description, her key features are her pure white fur, white hair, pink ears and soft pink eyes (she is an Albino). She\'s a healer by spirit, loves nature, wears stylish femenine robes and usually carries a simple magical staff.

Nevermind if you don\'t want to, but I really do love your style and would be so happy to see \'myself\' how you might see me. :)

Wow Kintall, amazing! :))

very detailed and colorful work. The shadows gives life and depth to the images, and I love weapons that are bigger than the wielder  ;)
I like the wand a lot too. Great work!

How about adding some background to the pictures? :)
Title:
Post by: Kintall on January 24, 2004, 05:20:37 am
sorry Sep I didnt mean to be so abrupt I\'m just a bit thingy about people messing with my art, and I\'d love to do backgrounds sadly however my abiltys with backgrounds are compeable to my abilitys unicycling: I can but its dangerously hap hazard and potentialy fatal :)

Title:
Post by: Kintall on January 24, 2004, 03:54:41 pm
OK Moogie is done... this one was a bit more of a meaty challenge, quite enjoyable reallly :)

the outfit is an original, I know its a litttle bit coloured but its hard to show light/shadow without it looking monochrome, and I wanted her to look lively and vibrant so I put a bit O colour in her cheeks

if you want any modifications made ie  colouring etc, just post whats yer preference and I\'l be glad to hue/saturation that layer into submission :)

[EDIT]
P.S and any suggestioons on what to do next would be greatly apreciated, mainly because I\'m trying to get my \"art on demand\" skills up to snuff, thanks

as allways comments apreciated, sometimes even  demanded :)

Can you draw an insect like creature about 2 foot long they have 2 sets of wings, large eyes, sharp long spiny legs -4 sets, 2 fore claws-large,and powerful jawed mandibles.

It should look hyperactive and hungry-vicious.

Title:
Post by: Skizzik on January 24, 2004, 07:12:03 pm
Looks GREAT! The wings can even be added in 2 places as I see it. The more conventional position would be just below it\'s claw-arms, having it\'s lower body hanging down, the wings could fold over it\'s body then when it\'s not flying. If you want it to be really freaky you could have the wings on it\'s tail, and it\'s entire body dangling upside down when it\'s flying.

Well I\'ll utter a bit of critisism here, but that doesn\'t mean itsn\'t fantastic what you do.

Anyway, I like the moogie-picture a lot more then the one from Seperot and the one of this insect.
Because you use a lot of bright colors, and that\'s better for pictures of \'good\' (I mean the alignment) things/people then for chaos/evil ones.
So i suggest to use in for i.e. the insect-like animal darker colours and only shades of a dark colour.
The evil head was better coloured: not to much completely diffrent colours but a lot tones of the same dark red.

This explains also why the uncoloured drawings are sometimes better then the final result: there is more shadow and your audience can imagine the colours themselves.

It\'s very possible that i\'m not completely correct, because I\'m absolutely not artistic, and I know nothing about it.

YAY, now thats the kind of thing I\'m after.

I do see what you mean by the coulouring being important in showing further what a character/monster is, ie if somethings done in pastell pink with highlights of white, then making it look villanous or nasty may well be challenging, alternately if something is coloured in black with deep red highlights then it will be more likely to look vilanous.

as far as the bug goes I was going for a tropical feel as the worlds largest insects are found in the tropics, so I figureed it would need tropical colours to blend into that kind of scene

the seperot one was coloured to look like a pirate: I dont exactly know why, just was

Thankyou so much that was the best critique I\'ve had yet:)

Title:
Post by: Kintall on January 25, 2004, 04:05:07 pm
well three things, one I re coloured the seperot pic

I actually like it more now, it sort of has a dark velvet feel to it, the eye is now red though I was thinking how nice a pair of icy light blue eyes would look against allmost jet black fur, with similarly dark hair with a blueish shine topped off with a long pure white coat and matching vest and pants...

I feel my character sketch aproaching...

and heres a re colour of the insect thing, rather more wasteland evil looking now:

and finaly an early sketch of the Tarantula T rex hybrid.. I\'m not sure about these traits but first ones allways odd

as allways, comments/constructive criticism are more than welcome, as are interesting requests :)

Hey hey Kintall,

That\'s amazing work
I wonder, if you ever feel bored or inspired (wichever you prefer ;)) would you please have a go at lil\' old Kely?
I\'m a Nolthrir druid trying to understand nature, already well known with the lands and waters of Yliakum, but a stranger to it\'s skies for i will never experience the priviledge of flight. To make up for this loss, a falcon (wich i have no name for yet) decided to share his live and to become my familiar and close friend and together we experience nature in all her glory.

As for looks well, Kely is a herbalist/druid and does some brown and a bit of blue ways and this is reflected in his robe and (walking) staff. Also does he carry a sickle on his side (to cut herbs and lag monsters :P)
His skin is somewhat greenish with long dark hair.

np, glad to draw it, main question is though what noise would it make and how big is it, 1inch 2 inches?

AND, well I\'l get to drawing that green druid fellow (forgot which ones were the nolthir coz my game dont work much)

after that I guess I\'l draw the treecastle if I hear a \"please\", my main area is chracter/monster/item design so it\'l be nice to give locales design a go :)

Post by: Darkmoon on January 26, 2004, 09:44:27 am
About this recent pic, it seems ok at first glance.  The more I study it, some things reveal themselves:

the sword: decent style, but if it\'s dragging behind her, the blade should be longer, or the sword should be tilted down a bit to match the angle of the ground plane.  It looks like it\'s floating, or she\'s got some tremendous forearm strength.  ;)  (the fingers looked stetched/extended a bit, as if it\'s heavy for her)

the outfit: again, decent style, but how about doing some actual armor?  Maybe some chain or scale mail.  I know those armor types can take insane amounts of time to get right, but I think they\'re worth it in the end.  The armor doesn\'t have to cover the whole figure.  Maybe add other things, like pouches or a cloak.

the hands: it seems to me that the hands/fingers are a little too thick.  A bit more slender would help convey femininity.

the head: looks like it\'s coming along well.  I particularly like the face, and its expression.  Maybe for the hair you could do a ponytail with some stray strands hanging in front.  Possibly a triple ponytail?  (Not horizontal, but vertical.)  Typical \"flyaway hair\" would also look nice here.

the pose: full of attitude.  :)  Standing almost nonchalantly, saying, \"Just bring it.\"  Good work.

How\'s that for a critique?
Title:
Post by: lynx_lupo on January 26, 2004, 10:00:55 am
This one looks very evil...I wouldn\'t even colour it. The eyes are just plain  vicious and the sword has very good potential too(the handle is bad imho).

The bad things are the legs and the left hand(from her perspective),a bit out of proportions and twisted.

About TC: well, if you\'re so eager to draw I\'ll contact you more when we\'ll need you. Thanks for the support!

Fan-bloody-tastic!, if you could offer your continued commentary I would be more than gratefull.

your right about the sword, its just a marker at the moment havent trawn the proper one... so it stands to reason it looks bodgy

as far as the hands go I was actually going to make them bigger as well as the feet, maily because I think if I\'m going to be doing non-human art be thet  human or otherwise I think it best to find ways of showing masculinty and femininity without the use of conventional artistic devices

the outfit was actually going to be metal :) great minds etc...

hair wise, its going to become more spikey when I get to work on it :)

oh and the druid fellows been inked

I like your pictures very much, they look so great.

And about that druid, he looks like he has a 70\'s dress. Colorfull, tight waste and uberwide legs. :)
I like that style, but sometimes the waste gets a little too thin. ;)
But i think his back and ass could have been hidden behind his left arm to make him a little less fit.

Do I dare to make a request now?
I would want a character looking something like this (http://w1.261.comhem.se/~u26132534/fighter3.jpg)
But with more life and motion.
He is a stealthy shadow guy and master of two swords. His left-hand sword can be turned the other way, as a more shielding sword. Darkish colors.
And btw, hes of the human race.
Please Kintall :)

Well the druids done, I must say I quite like it

this whole underpinning theme of Planeshift trying to escape the age old cliche\'s has really helpd as far as inspiring me to think of new ways of looking at traditionsl things (like druids)

no  more knight, elf, dwarf and obligatory mage combos going to slay the dragon yet again, probably to get the magic orb/crystal/sword.

dont get me wrong I still love it, I still watch the roadrunner show and I still enjoy watching the coyote lose, and I\'l still buy the next final fantasy but its important not to allways walk the exact same paths.

put simply, this new thing is gonna be fun for the players and the makers :)

indeed indeed, go the energy feild

that swordish fellow will have to wait it seems I\'ve gotten behind in my requests.

so first I\'m doing the villanous looking sworded lass.  then secondly I\'m doing that treecastle ( which will be fun as I dont often do tree based locales)
then hmmm who knows :)

You don\'t need to draw the TC. Go ahead if u like, but there is no need for it(and no use actually). I\'d rather you keep up with the popular demand.  ;)
Title:
Post by: Kintall on January 26, 2004, 02:53:28 pm
ahh but I must as yo see you are the poulus so your demands shal be met

truth be told I\'m doing this for two reasons,
one I\'m looking to sharpen my photoshop skills as well as my \"work on demand quikly and well\" skills

and two, I\'m looking to find something to dig my teeth into as I\'m allready involved in another game production and any skills I can gain would aide it well :)

I don\'t understand fully- poulous?

But if u want to join the team, just come to the forums(link is on the site) and get in the flow and we\'ll see what we can give you to draw - brainstorming is more important now..

I think he meant \"\'populous\".

Btw, i am looking forward to seeing an assassin, the ranger is really very nice.
Title:
Post by: Kintall on January 26, 2004, 05:20:15 pm
oh :) firstly \"poulous\" it my magical cool way of typing populous

secondly theres theres this, which I must say I do quite like as its one of the better shaded things I\'ve done

well see for yourself:)

Post by: Abemore on January 27, 2004, 08:20:17 am
I\'m not at all an artist, but I\'m going to try my hand at some constructive criticism.  First I want to say that all your art is amazing!

In this latest drawing, the assassin looked better before you colored it.  The gradient used on the pants make them look far too shiny.  Not at all like cloth.  And it\'s distracting.  Also, far too much red.  I\'m not sure if that\'s good criticism, but that\'s what I got.  I also liked the belt hanging down between the legs in the uncolored one, and the long pony-tail instead of the loopy sash.

And on the Trex Spider, the transition between the silver and the red colored parts are abrupt and do not look like they belong together.  Looks more like a Trex-sperm with a bionic spider-thing grafted to its back.

The battle cat and druid are perfect.

The redone seperot pic is too dark in the center of the face.  But I love the sword.

Okay, now for a request.
I\'d like to see the Evil guy with the 5 red eyes in some light leather armor striking a pose with a sword drawn in the same style as that kickass axe you drew.  The seperot sword was fantastic due to its extreme length.  I\'d like this guys sword to be equally fantastic, but instead of extreme length, it should have an extreme size and weight.  To wield this massive sword the guy should probably have great upper body strength, but it\'s not necessary.

Show me the magic.

Post by: Darkmoon on January 27, 2004, 07:19:41 pm
Maybe it\'s my traditional art background talking, but I seem to enjoy your sketches more than the finished pieces.  The way they\'re colored feel \"sterile\" to me.  I see line art with colored gradients.  That may be all well and good for you, but it falls short of my expectations after seeing one of your \"rough sketches.\"

Maybe you could increase the amount of light/shadow.  The colored gradients don\'t go deep enough to really bring the pieces out.  The light green cloth on the recent pic looks rather flat.  Not enough darkened spots to make it look like he\'s wearing it.  I also noticed that in that pose, he\'s not casting any shadows on himself.  If you have a strong enough light source to create highlights, you would need to add darker shades to your colors to balance it.  I also agree with Abemore about the pants on that assassin, but I disagree about the \"loopy sash.\"  It adds motion to an otherwise static figure.

Don\'t get me wrong, your art is good (and rather popular! :) ).  You seem prolific in your ability to produce it, something I can no longer do.  Here\'s hoping that you can take your art to the fabled \"next level\", something most artists fall short of.
Title:
Post by: Kintall on January 27, 2004, 09:18:55 pm
Wow,

love the critiqe, if I could get more like that I may just get to the aforementioned \"next level\"

you are quite right about the flat feel, when I\'m working in Photoshop it feels like I\'m colouring them into a plastecine like state, I\'m currently looking into ways of applying and distorting textures and/or patterns

and the self applying shadows are Missing, they are something I dont feel confident enough with even on paper as I still need to work on my spacial sense to then get the right feel for where the shadows should go (any methods you know of for building this skill would be greatly apreciated)

I do allso find that digital colouring is a bit... well \"soulless\" but thats probably my unused paint set talking :)

thankyou again Darkmoon for your critique, it is very much apreciated, and I do hope to receive more in future :)

[edit] and whats my next request hmmmmm.....?
Title:

Title:

I think, this will be hard to draw(its hard to describe, too), but perhaps you want to try:

Its a creature with narrow shape, medium height. The head is between spieder and insectoid.(ie mandibel and facette eyes)
It has three legs and tarms with 120? between each pair of arms and again 120? each pair of legs. The arms are in one horizontal plane and the legs are in a seconde horizontal plane.

Yeah, about the next step. Here is a useful  video-tuorial  POLYCOUNT  (http://www.planetquake.com/polycount/resources/general/video_tutorials/video-tut-list.shtml)
Look in the painting section and take the first tutorial, thats the best one.
Here is also a cool forum where you can look at the work of pros CGTalk (http://www.cgtalk.com/forumdisplay.php?s=5de96de07fcd718a2af5eecd42b64f46&forumid=111)
Almoust everything is done on comp.

Now to your work. Your sketches are damn good! I like them very much. :)  ;)  :)

Do not say such things lynx_lupo, even with smiley faces at the end.  :)

Wonderful, amazing works of art Kintall.
I hope that we get some more talented artists in here to critique for you.

The 5 eye\'d gent is not what I had envisioned, but still cool.  My fault for not being specific enough. :)

Speaking of specificity, here\'s a question:
Would you like us to be ultra specific, or would you rather enjoy the freedom given from general requests?
Title:
Post by: Kintall on January 28, 2004, 01:55:50 pm
ty ty praise is allways welcome, as for the requests three things:

1) I only do requests with the word please in them, so why dont I practice my art whilr you sharpen up on your manners :) :)
2)less/morespecific doesnt really bother me I either work out my crearivity or my \"work to order\" ability so eithers fine
2) Pristontale is playable again for the Aus and NZ regions so I\'m going to be spendin the half hour or so I normaly spend on this art scene playing pristontale because... well,  it may have as much depth as a kiddy pool and as much story as a van damme movie but its addictive...so.... there I go

:)

[edit] I\'m still doing requests but dont expect same day results :)

Alright, I\'ll do another.

Kintall, if you would be so kind, please indulge us by creating yet another digital work of art.

Here is my request...

Two female warriors.  A Diaboli (http://www.planeshift.it/razdia.htm)  and an Elf (http://www.planeshift.it/razelf.htm).  Each wielding a 2-handed sword, now locked in combat.  A fierce but beautiful countenance can be seen on each of their faces.  Their long battle has torn and tattered their clothing exposing much of their well toned bodies.  A scratch here; a cut there.  A pair of thigh-high, high-heel boots wouldn\'t hurt the mix.  Maybe some long luxurious gloves.  Lets get some long beatiful hair in there too.  This should result in a sort of battered elegance that is very appealing.

Thank you Kintall for your consideration. :)

Kintall, you cannot judge the whole PS community because of stuff like this. I understand why you\'re angry, but just saying \"He did this, so I hate this game\" doesn\'t work.
Talk to a moderator. Hopefully they will help you solve the problem.

hmm.. weird :\\

So just because Seperot put the picture you drew of him in his sig(wich you made for him) without asking, you now hate the game, the community and everyone that\'s in anyway affialiated to PlaneShift?  ?(

What about asking seperot if he would be so kind to remove the picture you drew from his sig, or put credits somewhere in his sig?

*thinks that either that spider bite has some really weird side effects or someone hacked into Kintall\'s account.*

EDIT: I see you deleted the art from your host too. oh well.. I guess it\'s goodbye then..

wow, community outpour

I\"m impressed and humbled, how can I say no to such a freindly bunch

and I thought about it, and no matter what I do people will allways take whats not theirs and if they dont have the perception to see that what they are doing is wrong, then it would be silly of me to get angry at people who probably dont even have the capacity to understand  their actions

so, I\'d like to apologise to the community for my outburst and rash judgement I dont hate the game I\'m just thingie about my stuff and I let my mouth (or keyboard) run on ahead

Moogie, I checked the PMs, thanks.....    seriously:)

and Sep, Stand on your head and fall through your bum.
altering other peoples things without permission is not fine, doing it more than once after you have been warned is not fine, doing all that and not even giving credit is worse.
Learn from this or one day an artist of some sort will lose controll and prove that the pen really IS mightier than the sword, if the weilder is sufficiently angry and the pen is sufficiently sharp.

to the rest of you...  I\'d upload the pics but I\'v allready been awake far too long and thats a darn tedious job to do and after that I\'l get to the requests, one other thing... university has started so time is not on my side

thanks again to the community, lovely outpour I will do my best to live up to it :)

umm, ist that a bit, well umm.... ok

I apologise in advance to all female PS forum members for what I am sure will be a very \"male\" artwork, but I fear I must do it as I have said I would... sigh

seems a bit steriotypical though what with the boobs and conveiniently cut up clothing and the sweat trickling down those \"healthy\" womens bodys as theyre locked in combat, probably make a great book cover for a trashy fantasy book involving some amazons (2 boobed kind) and a \"lance\"  of some sort, I\'m rambling again... sorry

in short, I\'d love to itl be good practice for keeping femininity in an action situation

(though if I had to pick a female warrior character as my favourite it\'d be Samus Aran, she rocks!)

and further more If I were a female warror I\'d wear armour, proper armour not like they do on Xena or the like but FULL PLATE ARMOUR, the kind that looks as ugly as the people that have been hit by it, but maybe thats just me :)

this willl apparently be a constant for the next 3 years,

I\'m posting this while I eat my breakfast as it is the one bit of free time I have today before uni kills me and then I wait tables untill I die again

I\'m really sorry I wont be doing works at any recogniseble rate every now and then one may appear along with an SOS note. perhaps during holidays.... or in my sleep

[note: the preceding was a dramatisation meant to reflect current status of picture production unit]
