Here is an idea. I think it would be good if the job you choose to do could influence your powers in certain magics.
For example if you were an artist or a tamer, you would be good at summoning animals, because an artist has good imagination and a tamer, well he works with animals. (brown way, i think it was)
And a musician could have better powers in illusions (Azure way)
well, that\'s the idea. What do you think?

Basicly, I think it\'s a good idea, but maybe it\'s hard to make such a system with a good balance. I.e. what would be the advantage for a leaterworker, or a cartographer?
You can do such things now already by selecting those skill in the char creation. I.e. choose both animal trainer and brown way.
Btw. why is this tread here and not in the wish list-part?

Its a pretty good idea, ans yes it should be in the wish list topic but thats to late, isnt it? :D
But the advantages ar only of use for certain skills, and that would have as a result that everyone will choose one of these with advantages. And that we cannot have, because that would undermine all the economics.
And 1 question: I have heard of it before, but what is the brown way, and others? I know, it a noob question, but I have to learn, or els I can play along good

Start planeshift and select the option to make a new char, then select costum creation and afther 2 or 3 pages, you can choose your skills. Click on them for more information.
Btw. brown way is summoning, I believe.

And i didn\'t post this in the wish list section because i wanted to find out what you guys think of it before i anounce it in that section.
And isn\'t this the general section where people can post anything about planeshift.But point taken. next time i wish to post an idea for PS i will do it in the wish list

Ps: cartographers could be good at using spells that change the landscape, if there are any.

Like Taldor said, you can already do all of this yourself, I don\'t see why you would HAVE to be better in the brown way when you are an animal trainer, you can choose this yourself in the char. creation menu.

Isn\'t it a given point that when you choose what proffession you are, you will slowly (ok maybe not slowly) get better at the skills needed for that proffession? Everyone has to start off on the same foot I think... Maybe you could have a \'school\' in your guild that teaches you and helps you raise your skill level.

Yes that\'s true, but only because you use thes skills a lot, not because you have a certain proffession.

Why is everyone confusing me?
I am talking about spells not skills.
What i asked was would it b cool if the proffesion you choose would help perform certain types of magics. Not like brown or azure but more detailed. For example as i\'ve already said, since a tamer spends time with animals he cold have it easier when he tries to use a spell that summos animals.
But as Taldor said, this would be hard to balance. So now i\'m thinking about it.

Why should only magic be affected? That would be discrimination and even more difficult to balance.

We are talking about the skill of practicing magic... you can make it in the character selection screen to have it easier when using, say Brown magic (summoning). Skill goes hand in hand with everything character related, I think.

Well Taldor, you remind me of this guy called maddox, i don\'t know if you know him but he asks questions like these.
And the answer to your question is that i posted because i didn\'t want you guys going of in the wrong direction, with your \"asumptions\".
But if you are talking about the entire thread, well i didn\'t realise the complexity of it until you told me in your first post.

I think of brown as neutral and if you want to be pure good then you want no neutral or evil in your character at all.

Well, Watcher games are not always exactly how you expect them to be: In this case brown hasn\'t anything to do with neutrality, because the brown way of magic is the summoning-magic. And if you want to be (alignment-)good you can do that with any way of magic or even without magic: that choice is up to you.
I\'ll give an example: you want to be (alignment-)good, but you choose the dark magic. The fact that you\'re good in dark magic, has nothing to do with the fact you have a good alignment.
If it\'s still strange for you read the descriptions from the diffrent magics, and you\'ll see they have nothing to do with the alignment.
