Title: extremely low fps
Post by: just_a_noob on January 25, 2004, 10:08:21 pm
Hello,

I installed the game, succesfully created a character, but i am experiencing extremely low fps.

First I thought it was just lag, but after implementing `System.PlugIns.iBugPlug = crystalspace.utilities.bugplug` in the configuration file, I saw that sometimes, my framerate was hovering between 0.10 and 1.

My sys specs are

Dual athlon mp 2000
1024 mb ddr 266
asus a7m266-d
Radeon 9800 128 mb @ Cataclyst 4.1

I am using WinXP prof with all availlable updates installed.

I tried running the game with a number of different settings (resolution, bit, fullscreen / nonfullscreen, compatibility mode etc. etc.), but i keep experiencing extremely low framerate.

The problem occur\'s especially whilst looking to the left/right. Moving forward and backward results in an fps somewhere near 0.25 and 10.

Very strange. Help would be appreciated, Planeshift looks very promising!!

Hiya

It\'s pretty usual to have low framerates in the current version of the game. It seems you\'ve tried lots of ways to solve the problem, so there\'s not much more I could suggest. Have you run the Updater for the game? Try that, although don\'t hold your breath.

CB will hopefully run alot smoother for many people. :)

i would suggest getting the latest video card drivers,  windows xp service pack 1, run in windowed mode and disable sound

if you have an Nvidia card, I suggest you not install newest Nvidia drivers. A lot of people I know say that, when they update their Nvidia drivers, they get results that are worse.

Mm. New version. Hope that\'l solve my problems. Tried disabeling sound etc. No affect. And dlling latest detonater drivers won\'t be of much use I think.

Maybe it is opengl related? Are there any more people out there using ATI videocards (radeon series) experiencing the same problems?

The FPS is pretty high on the list of our concerns and is something we are always looking to improve in the Crystal Space engine.  We are hoping that the new renderer can help this along with several other techniques.  We are not there yet but I hope that it can only get better.  I run with an ATi 9700 and it is playable.
