Ok, this is just a sujestion... so i dont want any ass-holes flaming me for it....
Why not make the Kran model a bit taller and the dwarf model a bit shorter... ive seen screens of other games like EQ2 and D&L where they have playable chars like faries who are not biger than a dagger and some that resemble titans and are as big as a house.... what do you think people???

Here you can see the Titan looking beast, i couldnt find the farie though :(
-
As the models will be completely redone in CB and they will be scalable as well, I think this isn\'t really the right time to suggest something like this..
-
What do you mean by \"scalable\"????
-
The Official News Page.Acraig tells us: \"We just recently did tests with a new model format in PlaneShift and
the results are good. We moved away from the old models because they
were big and took time to load and were not very flexible. With the new
system they are literally more flexible. We are now using a skeleton system
based on the Cal3D library. This third party Open Source library allows us to have
models with internal skeletons that allows us to develop cool animations
such as improved greetings and combat moves. We can also do things like
resize models to have maybe shrink potions.
-
Meaning the height can be changed
-
And you can be fat!!! haha i so want a endukai that resembles jaba the hutt!!! Big Fat kittie!!1
-
Yes, but i meant the average hight of the Krans bieng much biger and the average hights of the dwarves bieng smaller..... And yes i know that they already have done a long with the game... thats why this is only a sujestion.

Here is the pic... It has the giant and the farie...
-
I agree with this idea - it just adds realism (the good kind)
-
who would want a character THAT small. i mean for rping purposes no one would notice you.... and you cant be that strong being that short... hehe sounds like something i would do.
-
hurts your neck always looking up, its an excellent rping char i want dermorians that small
-
In D&L fairies will start with a ability to fly withought wasting mana or anything... it would be nice to hover over an orc who is trieng his hardest to hit you with his axe

Yes i LOOVE dark and light. i cant wait untill it comes out. i will probally play it untill crystal blue. or untill i get bored with cb anyways.
-
Omg, that graphic surely is something. And that giant, wow, would be nice doing a few swings with his axe, I wonder how that little farie would like a game of american fotboll, being the boll that is :P
But then again, it\'s the money issue, which is the reasion why I am here, aswell as most I think... Also counting the fact my computer would probably get a heart attack by login into the game...
Such a pity ;)
-
No way, dude.
It\'s already hard to make every room and door big enough to fit a Kran inside.
The Kran is around 2,3 meters high and way broad.
-
Gees and look at the water effects in that screeny. Its too bad there wont be much water in the game cus ur in a stalagtite cus water can make a game look VERY good.

I don\'t think so:...
This comes from http://www.planeshift.it/setting_overview.html
Streams and Lakes
Many different underground streams spring from the walls of the first and second levels, some of which were formed from time immemorial, and join together at the bottom of the stalactite, where they form a lake that submerges the two lower levels. Somehow the water gets out, since Yliakum hasn\'t been flooded once in recorded history. The flow of the streams varies as times goes by, and the level of the lake changes accordingly. Sometimes the lake level is so low that almost half of the seventh level is revealed, but other times the level is so high it almost reaches the edge of the sixth level. The springs here supply a constant source of drinking water for Yliakum.
The seventh and eight level, both usually submerged, host the Nolthrir, an Elven race who have been attending the seaweed for thousands of years. With the influence of time and the Crystal, the Nolthrir evolved into an amphibious species, which enabled them to remain under water for long periods of time. After centuries of crossbreeding, the seaweeds grown with such skill as the Nolthrir possess boast different qualities. Some of these varieties are used as food, while others are tanned and woven to make clothing. Still others have medicinal properties, but most of the seaweed is dried and used as fodder for Pterosaurs, Megaras, and cattle bred on the first level.

Oh, just so every one knows, that screen was from EQ2 not from D&L...
-
well yeah duh... dark and light is focusing on the landscape and not the characters. the characters look beautiful in that screeny but the dnl ones look crappy. its too bad too. i hope they shape up thier characters soon.

You get the same looking water in Morrowind, ingame... and I\'ll bet anything that that screenie is pre-rendered. ;)
But ya, the stark difference in sizes there is really something. It\'d be nice and all, but PlaneShift\'s world is all underground, meaning lots of tunnels and narrow places, such as caves and ruins. To make smaller characters would be fine, but for mappers trying to accomodate for huge player models in such a setting causes a few problems.

making an online game compete with the graphics of an offline one is a pretty big deal moogie. :P
-
I\'d say that the size problem would be a good thing - one downside to being huge and extra strong is that you can\'t fit in tiny places (normal) - no?

Dwarfs?
-
yes i agree with you snow wolf. this would add another dimention to being smaller and more manuverable and taller and stronger.
