Title: What will be your weapon of choice?
Post by: Olig on February 05, 2004, 04:46:02 am: I didnt find this type of \"what will you be?\" thread, so I started it. :D (but if there is, plz link it) Only because I wanted to include my weapon type of choice on the \"What job will you have?\" thread, but didnt think it would fit.

Anyways, my weapon type must be polearms/spears for that extra foot in distance!

P.S. Hadies says He will just use Dwarves.. one in each hand.. something about swinging them by there long beards like flails. sounds painful to me. I told him if he really wants to make them deadly he should have it where they are sober.. yep.. a pair of sober dwarves and tell them the enemy took there Ale. Duck and cover.. the carnage.. the death.. is to much to watch.

Anyway, if i have to decide, i would go with a Bow or other ranged weapon... (i don\'t like close combat that much as u can see)

The biggest you can carry? Or the biggest you can wield? It\'d be pretty funny watching you get killed \'cause you can\'t swing your axe without 5 minute breaks.

As for me, I\'d like to have a spear, basically used in the same way as a staff, but with one pointy end. However, if that\'s not an option, I\'ll probably go with something boring like a staff or longsword.

A long halberd might suit you. As for me, I\'d like a staff with a halberd on each end. :D (hey, i can dream)

I doubt you will be able to wield 2 whips even if they are implemented. Whips require 2 hands to use properly. if you dont use 1 hand for balance and throwing your wieght around you dont get half the power.

So i would like to have a crossbow or an arbalest.

Remember, that it was so powerfull, that a peasant could pierce a knights armour and kill the knight with one shoot or heavily injure him, so that the pope forbade its use to preserve feudal control.
If there will be no arbalest or crossbow, this will still be ok, but if there will be one and it just dimishes health by one fifth or even less, i will consider it a childish mess :P

A chain with a spicked ball would be another good choice, because its a weapon of the true evil ones :)

Or long claws on both hands, so that i can attack with one hand, while parrying with the other :)

or a lightweight speer, so that it is quick an has got some range
would be cool, if you could buy or craft daggers with a hollow handle, so to put it on a stick and quickly make a speer, if it serves you better..

But anyhow, it depends all on the figthingsystem. Noone would like a weapon, which looks cool, but you are looking dull, because you get your ass spanked in pvp or pvm.

So lets hope, the fightingsystem wont turn out to be a dice-fixed mess,
some old incrusted heritage from AD&D

If not i will get myself 2 nice 1-h katars, or a 2-h katana.

the katars could also be used along with martial arts skills.

From what I gather, the three martial arts schools deal with unarmed combat, two of them doing ki-type spells as well.

you can do both sword skills and martial arts, but not sure they would benefit off each other..

Ranged - Longbow. I like fighting at a range, and longbows fit that perfectly. They have... a long range. There is the slight problem of requiring extensive training, but oh well.

If a rapier was unavailable, then I would resort to a longsword or something similar. I would also carry a dagger or two.

All these people who talk about wielding a Staff in one hand, a Sword in the other. I challenge you to effectively wield a staff with one hand.

Or... seeing as they are unlikely to be in game, a flail.

But I am not 100% sure what type of character I want to play. Seeing as Zephyrus no longer leads the mercenary guild I might switch to something more interesting; a healer or a smith of some kind... dunno.

The galkard looks like the type of thing I\'d use on an assassination, or a dishonorable opponent, something that would kill slowly and painfully.

And really, to tell you the truth, I prefer hand-to-hand combat better than using weapons.

That way, I can confuse/defend/distract my opponent with my longsword, while I use my dagger to seek an opening.

I hate to rant, but a golden axe would be worth more on the market than on the battlefield. XD Gold is a very soft metal that you can bend fairly easily with just your hands. I hope golden weapons turn out to be more for decoration than fighting in CB, it would make sense, despite the fact that there is already a gold falchion for sale in Trokin\'s Very Awesomo Shop of Stuff.

As for bending gold with your hands. If it was thin enough yes but you try bending gold bullion with your bare hands.

If the axe was a composite of gold and another strong metal then its quite possible to retain a gold appearance whilst having a strong weapon. If a weapon contained gold then it would be less brittle.

If you pick \'Magical item\' in char creation you get a random item that could be a magical weapon, though a weak one.

Ranged weapons would be cool but I somehow doubt they will have all weapon classes integrated with the game yet. Guess it will be a surprise.

A nice pair of mugs, along with some bottles of beer.
My attack strategy would be to hit and run, wich means i\'ll keep on empty beer on the enemis then run and refill the mugs, and then empty the mugs again... until the monster gets drunk. At this point it would be really easy to kill. For example, i could make it follow me in the woods, and it would be too drunk to avoid alll the trees.... it\'ll end up killing itself.

That\'s a really stupid idea for a weapon. It completely unbalances the game! It ruins the joy of people who play the game! (If there is no joy, there is no point.) This is why I\'d use it on every character you\'d ever create, perma-deathing him, until you renounce your support for it. The same goes for anyone else who supports the implementation of \"soul-stealing/consuming\" elements and weapons in the game... grr... -_-

- bastard sword or scimitar (a big one handed sword to resume)
- a shield

- an one handed crossbow as second weapon... (on Priston Tales ennemies doesn\'t like this configuration lol You see you run you shot you run you shout and they can\'t hit you...)
- still the shield because sometime ennemies has bows and crossbows...

- mythrill or chaotic armour : I really like seeing ennemies dying by hitting me lol
/me whistles and looks at the sky...

Oh yeah I forgot : healing spell too but it isn\'t a weapon...

Also; two big swords? You have got to be jokeing the biger the weapon the harder it is to wield with one hand, and the heavier and harder to wield a weapon is the slower you are with it. So if we met an you were wielding say twin basttard swords and I had a longsword and shield I would cut you to pieces rather quickly. Combat is not about lookling cool (that does you no good if you die) it is about surviveing.

Take for example a landsknecht; I could easily hold one in either hand and yet if tryed to swing one with only one hand I could not hold onto it. A simple phisics lesson should explain: When an item is swong on a fixed point centrifical force is created which magnifys and concentrates wheight at the far end of the item.

So even if he was quite strong he would still have a very difficult time wielding duel large weapons.

The weight of weapons is actualy alot less than people belive for example a the greatsword avalible at http://medievlal-ware.com/twohagrsw.html is only 84 ounces. And he was 7 feet tall and built like an ogre. FYI though, you can use a hand-and-a-half sword in one hand, although a longsword would be better.

Jessyn will fight with a staff and unpleasant potions, with a single light longsword for emergencies.

Approach unarmed getting within close combat range I would put my hand infront of the enemies face as if I was taunting him and then have a dagger come out of my sleeve and the edge of blade a cm from hitting thy enemies eye.

When I begin to pull the dagger away from his face, letting him sigh in relief I would pull my other dagger out with my other hand and stab him right in the side.

Even better, a magic staff that will collapse on command into a short stick. The stick would be much easier to carry into small spaces where a rogue might need to sneak or hide.

Also, while this isn\'t a weapon per se, I\'d love to have acrobatic skills with witch to avoid all weapons coming at me. Jump, flip, tumble, spring off walls! You\'ll never touch me with that sword/mace/hammer/etc!

Hope here if that one day planshift evolves to a level where having trained blacksmith skill and weapons manufacturing and having created a 3d model and texures of a custom weapon, and having those approved by GMs or devs, I would be able to buy raw materials and manufacture the weapon myself (or oder the weapon from an established master blacksmith).

I don\'t think daggers would stand up very well against someone wearing plate armour, or a creature with a very thick hide or shell. My character isn\'t primarily a warrior or fighter however, so he will always be at some disadvantage.

Post by: falling_2fast on February 26, 2006, 06:20:17 am: lol i like em all but ide have to go with dual pickhammers heavy weighted backs with very sharp spikes...... one good vertical blow to the skull with one will end up very messy...... or you could use dagger and just aim for the eyes it seems to work very effectively
