Title: DeJedix Monastary
Post by: Jedi on February 12, 2004, 06:05:36 pm
Well, since my post has gone unnoticed in the traditional Fanart thread, I\'ve taken it upon myself to make this. This will be my fanart thread where I will post my art from now on. Feel free to critisize and make suggestions.

Other than that, enjoy. :)

Entry #1

My first picture in my DJM series.

This is the first picture in which I have actually tried to proportion everything correctly. This is probably my best work to date, so you can guess how bad the rest of my stuff is. :D

If the hair looks like a big black blob, turn up the contrast and gamma on your monitor.

Good work Jedi!! Nice

Does the posting mean you\'re back? And in the guild too?

Sorry, for the delayed reaction, but I\'ve been caught up in certain...things. I should be online more often, and yes, lynx_lupo, my #1 fan, I will finish the TotJ. ;)

As for Guild news, there\'s no reason for me to remain. Don\'t get me wrong, I\'m not just abandoning it for freelancing purposes like everyone else, I just wont be able to go ingame any time soon (think months). It\'ll be a departure that will pain me, but I cannot justify my pointless burden to Monketh\'s guild. See ya.

I should be posting some more art as well as updating my TotJ within the week.

It\'s good to be home.

Ah...I am so late! My interpretation of a week may be a little bit different than everyone else\'s, but I still get around to it. :P

Ok, since I\'ve missed my deadline by 100%, I thought it only fair that I give you guys something better than one of my crappy sketches. Here\'s a sword I designed last night. It\'s called Dragonsbane.

:D Perhaps you\'ve noticed, but it is a desktop. So if anyone out there is so desparate for something other than those boring XP hills then you can put this up until you find something half-decent. :P

Ok, this next one was inspired by an MSN convo in which my friend and I were arguing about who was Matrixier. And, no, I don\'t have a life.

i like the sword, the matrixer thing is... unique. where didja get the guns?
Title:
Post by: Elegrand on March 13, 2004, 11:53:54 pm
The sword looks real good, wouldn\'t want my enemy to have it. BTW you kinda look like mouse...
Title:
Post by: Jedi on March 14, 2004, 02:31:10 am
Yes...I look like a mouse. Thank you. :P

The guns? Um...They\'re not illegal! That\'s the first thing...and um...I...got them from...Sep! That\'s right! Evil ol\' Seppy ga\'em to me! ...Yes, I know we live different bloody countries, who cares! He posted them to me! jk :D

I got the gun at the local Costume store. That\'s right, it\'s fake. ;)
Title: GREAT WORK
Post by: The Gumster on March 14, 2004, 05:21:59 am
the sword wouldnt be very good to use in combat, first off it has a great big hole, second it has a ball that would most likely stick in the enemy and the hole would make it stick even worse.
BUT IT LOOKS FANTASTIC!!!
Title:
Post by: Jedi on March 15, 2004, 05:10:35 am
Come now, don\'t tell me you\'ve never heard of Gutters. They are holes or gouges in the blade that have a devastating effect when thrust into an opponent\'s midriff.

Let me explain how this works.

The sword tip and blade plunge into the enemy\'s stomach and leave a wide birth for the blade to pass into the person. Then, when the sword stops, the holes and gouges are filled in by the intestines of the victim. When the sword is removed, the innards are severed causing unavoidable death. ONce stabbed by one of these, you\'re dead, even if you kill the wielder before he can pull it out.

:D There, wasn\'t that pleasant? I apologize to anyone who was put off by that rather disgusting account.

By the way, I\'ll be posting a Tips for Sword Design very soon. Just a heads up to all of you who want to make practical bladed weapons.

Post by: Kintall on March 15, 2004, 03:04:39 pm
nice sketch,  I think maybe if you use construction shapes to make up the body first your figures might look more natural, and the sword is rather groovy,  as far as the matrix goes...  I rekon you look like Trinity not Mouse :P

:( Thanks...I guess I\'m more in touch with my feminine side than I thought. ;) :P

Anyways, I do use presketches, but that doesn\'t really make up for lack of talent.

But, on the bright side (or dark side if you\'re concerned with mood  ) I made this new thingy in photoshop. Poetry is art, of a sort, so why not?

It\'s not that I\'m depressed, it\'s just that dark poetry is so easy to write. And my poetry is always contingently true. ;)

Hoyle! :P Here\'s a few more swords. Keep in mind that any swords I model are not common swords, but one-time forges, unique and imbued with their own strengths. They probably will appear in my TotJ (yes I\'m going to update that soon :D ).

Here is one of my favourite designs:

http://upl.silentwhisper.net/uplfolders/upload1/Krystal.jpg

...and her brother sword:

http://upl.silentwhisper.net/uplfolders/upload1/Redwyne.jpg

(Is there a reason why the [http://img] tags cause a \"One or more fields were not filled out correctly!\" error?)

Now that most of my pressing assignments have been brought to a close, I can continue my work on TotJ.

Yes I have the same problem, are your pic .png files? Cause mine were and I never had that problem before, maybe these forums dont allow you to post .png files though I have no idea why...

Title:
Post by: Jedi on March 29, 2004, 05:11:29 am
You\'re getting it too, Icefalcon? My pics aren\'t .png, but it still shouldn\'t be a problem. I\'m thinking the boards have developed a glitch. All of my other pics were .jpg and they [http://img]\'ed fine. :(

Hmmm, oh well. I\'m the the admins will get around to fixing it.

As for what I\'m going to do next...I\'m really not sure. I usually don\'t plan my desings; I just sit down and start modeling. I think, though, that I might make a Katana next, in the spirit of ninja-hood. :) You see, I rented Ninja Gaiden this weekend and it is just too cool.

Aha, well theres my problem, it should support PNG...I fount they have a better quality than JPG. Whenever I export an image from Gimp into a JPG file, there are these little colored pixles around my image it I have a white background, PNG doesnt do that...

Just to point something out, Katanas weren\'t used by ninjas. They were used by Samurai.
Title:
Post by: Jedi on March 31, 2004, 05:22:57 am
I know, but Ryu Hayabusa (which, unlike in the game, is correctly pronounced \"L\'you\' Ha-yabu-sa\" (There is no \'r\' in Japanese. It is pronounced \'l\'.) ;) ) uses a Katana, so it\'s all good. :D

(BTW: Ninja were rogue Samurai who had been disowned by their daimyos)

Yes, yes, lynx, my good man. I\'m working on it. I\'m almost finished chapter 6. I\'ll post it tomorrow or the next day. It\'s just a little slow going trying to get back into the groove of things. :)

And just to show you that my word is good for something, low and behold, a Katana. ;)

(Note to self: remember to up the resolution on the rendering. Low rez pix are driving me crazy.)

Actually, masterless warriors was called ronin, a ninja is a kind of monk really (it would be the closest resemblance), but yeah you could test me in japanese knowledge, check the sig...

Nice katana, but... :D  :D  :D

Very nice
Just the shaft looks weird on the lowest pic - somewhat tin-y and bent.

I thought they called japanese english \"engrish\", because they don\'t have an \'L\'...

Nice katana btw. :)

Yes thats what I thought too, I think you got it backwards...

And Jedi, Very nice katana, whats the polycount?

Post by: Jedi on April 04, 2004, 06:39:39 am
Oops, you\'re right, Vassago, I got them mixed up. >.< Damn, I haven\'t read Shogun in so long. *Sigh* guess I\'d better read it again.

I\'m pretty sure there\'s no \'r\' in Japanese. I have a Jap friend who is teaching me the language and he told me that there isn\'t. :(

Thanks for the compliments. Now before I tell you how many faces the sword has, let me tell you a bit about myself. Whenever I finish modelling something and want to render it for show, MeshSmooth is my best friend. :) Yes, I tend to overkill quite a bit. It\'s just a practice of mine. I want to avoid any \'sharoies\' in my finished render, so ya. Anyways, the sword and the scabbard total 48150 individual faces.

No new pix today (I did get a new sig, though), I had to focus on getting Ch 6 of my TotJ done. :D You can check it out in the Role Playing Forum if you\'re interested.

Thanks for the comments.

likey likey sword, very katana-ee maybe start the blades curve a little further up though maybe

and ther is in the japanese language no R but they have an R ish one its kinda like an R D hybrid thing

and they dont have any way of ending a word on a consonent exept N

cooler still is the country isnt even called Japan... the names completely different (sorta like Germany, its called Doichland, but with better spelling)

fun fcts from flying fool

Ninjas were more accurately members of a secret society who trained in the secret martial art of Ninjitsu (which was first developed in china). Unlike Samurai most ninjas were mere peasents, however there were several famous ronin who became ninja. Ninja were not necessarily assassins, but a lot of Ninja clans turned to assassination / thuggery / mafia like syndicates because it earned them a lot of money. Most ninja clans died out in wars with Shoguns. And all the remaining ninja clans disapeared into secrecy mid 19th century. Who knows if they are still out there, I imagine they rely more on guns now though.

Katana simply means \'sword\' in Japanese, so yes ninja used katanas. The difference was in craftsmanship, Ninja swords were cheap, often shorter and straighter than the Samurai\'s. This was simply because ninja were generally peasents and couldnt afford high quality steel/smiths. If a ninja could better a samurai he would take his sword, simply because they were far far better.

DAMNIT! I had a huge reply written up and my crappy-ace browser crashed! Piece of sh*t!

Oh well, here\'s my new pic.

The handle is made from bone and the blades were forged in manually.

It\'s pretty rough, but it\'s more of a concept than a showpiece.

Here goes again, I\'ll sumarize with jot-notes:

- literal translation of \'sword\' = \'ken\'
- thus \'shuliken\' (pronounced \"shoo-lee-ken\") = thrown sword
- \'shu\' = hand, \'li\' = ?, \'ken\' = sword

- Jap has five vowels: a, i, u, e, o
- pronounced as read in this sentence:

Ah, we soon get old.
a --- i --- u --- e --- o

- from there combos are made by adding one or two consonants:

ka, ki, ku, ke, ko
sa, si (shi), su, se, so
ga, gi, gu, ge, go (\'g\' soft as in \'garden\')
etc.

- words formed by combining these

sake (soy wine)
yuki (snow)

- double vowels can occur, in which case the word is read with a slight pause as in \'bookkeeping\'

yuuki (courage)

- only stand-alone consonant = \'n\' (as Kintall said)
- kana (letter) very similar to english \'h\'

- thus \'ken\' is \'ke\' and \'n\'

My knowledge of japanese is limited, but I\'m hoping to improve. :D

Hello. :) I felt so bad about posting such a crumby pic last day that I decided to make twoto make up for it. :D

The first is a handblade. You fit your hand inside the leather case and grip the metal bar inside.

The second is a high poly render of my bladed brass-knuckles variation.

I would post the low poly version, but my image host is having problems right now. I\'ll get it up by the weekend, though. :D

I doubt any od these could ever be used in-game, the polycounts are 1000x too much...a weapon should be 200-400 polygons (I think) to be used in-game.

But I have to say, those are some really cool models you got there Jedi... :D

Sorry for taking so long to reply, guys. :D

First, thanks for the comments. Feedback is good.

Kintall: Glad you like it. As to where I learned to model...my bedroom. Yep, taught myself. It\'s not all that hard really. It just takes patience. ;)

Skizzik: Thanks, again. I would submit, but as Icefalcon said, my models are too high poly. Maybe they could use them for FMV\'s... :P If not then I give the devs permission to come in here and use my ideas to make their own models. :D

Thardin: I use 3ds max 5.1, best 3d prog around (IMO)

Icefalcon: Thanks. I know my models are really high poly, but I don\'t really know how to lower that without losing the shape. Do you have any suggestions?

As promised, here\'s the lowpoly version:

Unfortunately, it\'s not as low-poly as I\'d like. :( Oh well.

And here\'s a special little deally I made up for you guys. :D

:D Comments are good.

\'Ello, b\'opbet! :D

Thanks for the encouragement.

Here are two more pieces for my LeatherDeath suit of ?armour?, more like killing equipment. ;)

Anyways, the first is a shoulderblade:

:D

Next we have a new specimen all the way from North Korea...Oops, wrong card. Um, a wristblade. You strap it onto your wrist (The one without the armblade on it) and deal out some massive damage! Damn, that sounds fun! :D

I probably ccould have put a little more into my wristblade. :( Anyways, tell me what you think.
