Well I decided that only a loonatic would do that much Uni at once so I decided to do my first year over two years
, what does this mean?
why the hack should you care?
who the hell is that guy that keeps following me?
and what in gods name is this thing growing on my....

one: it means I can do art...yay and I wont kill myself ( allways good)
two: because I got time to re up my art and do a new sig anner ting and a new sig to put on my pics seeing as the last one was more than sub par

and another, this one was inspired by the fact that in allmost all games/rpgs all the male warriors wear armour etc the female fighters have to get around in a tiny bikini, mainly because men make games..
so this one goes out to all those who think thats a bit silly and more than a bit immature :)

well I\'d comment on the scythe I made but to be perfectly honest Photoshop gets the credit for that, ( I honestly just couldnt be bothered doing the blade so I let photoshop do it for me)

seems since I went off about seperot I get little responses and no critiqes, guess I shouldnt say bad things about people who been here longer than me...

I don\'t think either of those possibilities have stopped people replying.
First of all, you started a small contest, which made people forget about comments/critiqu? and just want to guess the caption.
Secondly, not that many people come to comment on artwork unless they just want to post \"WOW that\'s awesome!!1\". Once you\'ve had the initial wave, you can\'t expect people to carry on commenting with the same enthusiasm that they had when you, a great new artist, and your work, came along.
Finally it\'s possible that people require something new (a new style, new way of colouring, shading, etc) after a while. Simply put, they may just be bored. (But that\'s far from saying your artwork is \'boring\' in its own right- I hope you understand what I mean).

No Kintall Seperot doesn\'t hold that much respect around here. Sorry but it\'s true. I dunno why people have slacked off because your work is as great as ever. I just don\'t stop by the fanart section much. The art I have seen so far is awesome. I especially liked that mage you did.

Looks like a creature we should see in PS. :]
Specifics:
Nolthrir male.
Tall, long light green hair.
Black robes.
Casting some sort of dark magic.
Also some sort of demon hound would be nice.
Basically just make a nolthrir mage who looks really dark and forboding.

Well, the work you are doing now is great as usual :D
Just a comment about the blue creature though, the fur looks great, but the spikey part on top looks, well really shiny. Not sure if thats the look you were shooting for, but its a little too shiny for my tastes. (Still cool tho :) )
It would also be cool if you did some darker pieces, with shadows and stuff (not completely sure how to explain this, my artistic abilities are non-existant :P), I\'m curious as to how your talents would be incorporated into that type of imagery.
Anyway, keep up the good work :)

well the theif is ready, I was planning to do a night skyline behind him, but as my landscape art skills arend as,how shall we say... passable, I got frustrated and looked menaingly at the first thing I found.... it was a kitten,my menace went away and I removed the attempted backgound for further practice.

Brilliant, you really hit back hard with these latest additions. :) They\'re original, wonderfully coloured and very detailed (especially the mage). I\'m sure you also found them alot more fun to draw, and more rewarding to complete. :) I hope you keep up the great work!
Here\'s a request, although more of a suggestion really- just try it if you find some spare time or you\'re bored :) But be warned, this would probably take quite a bit longer than your others:
An Enkidukai rides in the foreground on a huge black/brown Megaras, weapon in hand (probably a bow- it\'d be hard to use any other weapon mid-air!). In the background you can see other riders in the distance, some so distant that only their sillhouette shows.
The riders wear a light battle-armour, gold in colour, richly decorated... these people are most likely the elite troops of an army, sent into battle as a last resort. The Megaras\' also wear a few pieces of protection- perhaps a face guard, or steel claws on their feet, a saddle, breastplate... or whatever looks nice and allows them to freely flap their wings. :)
The background would be a simple sky, your choice of colours, and your choice of anything else that may be visible or happening in the picture. :)
I understand that sounds like a pretty daunting task, and I don\'t blame you if you don\'t attempt it... hehe. I wouldn\'t. :P

Megaras
The second flying animal is the Megaras, which is similar to a giant bat. Scientists believe the Crystal has genetically mutated the Megaras, since they reproduce only in Yliakum. These bat-like creatures are not as docile as the Pterosaurs, but they are stronger and more efficient, making them perfect to carry heavy but not too delicate loads, such as food and building materials. As with the Pterosaurs, each mercantile society is allowed to own only one Megaras.
Never seen a picture of one, let alone one with an Enkidukai rider. should be interesting :)

sorry its just that I have fruitbats sesonaly in my backyard,
and how in blazes bats became a steriotype of scary I\'l never know, they are loud screeching incontinent gluttonus flying swearing rats that poo on everything
the prospect of a giant one makes me and my outdoor furnature quiver:P

when i think of the megaras for some reason i think of those hog-nosed bats with the upturned nose. definally cool looking IMO.

Excellent work as usual Kintall. It seems like the enki is the only rider attacking there, if so some of the arrows should be facing the other way shouldn\'t they?

and as far as my own comments on tthat most recent work.. well it needs two things more than anything one is more of a sense of depth and two: its not as dynamic as I had hoped, I think I\'ve donr 2 many static peices of late but hey...

well if you mean the wing on the figure in the background then yes it is a wing, not in the aerodynamic sense but in a symbolic sense yes it is a wing... singular

Kran and Ynnwyn are races in PS. Kran are the big stone guys and Ynnwyn are the red guys (crossing between diabolo and elf).

of couse lucient isnt evil persay, he just has a 7 foot dark shadow that does his bidding by feeding on the souls of humans. that doesnt make him evil at all...
but you realise kintall that my characters career is taking out evil aberitions like those of your shadow. so in other words, it might want to watch its back in cb :P

Correct me if I\'m wrong Kintall, but I believe the fire effect was done with an outer glow with a deep red color, and a short motion blur.
BTW, Kintall your work is incredible...All of it...I was more amazed with each new pic I saw!

I\'d be glad to explain how, all you have to do is:

1:make a separate layer with the colouring for the \"burning\" object
2:this layer has to be around the top
3:get the motion blur to verticaly soften in
4:then just smudge the little licks of flame
5:then jjts usethe layer blending propertys to give it an outer glow of red (you may want to make the outer glows blend mode \"normal\")
that was kinda involved eh... well its easier than it sounds
oh and those rings

just make an image that is square then
do all your stuff like this
just remember to elongate it upwards using free transform otherwise it will be circular but sqwished, oh and the layer that will be your glowy ring thing must all be ONE layer otherwise when you use polar ordinates it will only do one layer and the dimensions wont match
so after you ringed it just give it a blur so the outer glows got something to blend from, then add the outer glow, dont forget you can change the colour of the rings by the use of the colour overlay blending property

Hehe, I would never have noticed that myself. I love those kind of details. :]
Nice photoshop-effects by the way, The flames looks really good, and I like the way you have dissolved Lucients body into Kintalls.
However I think that Lucients clothes are a bit plain, perhaps you could add some more wrinkles and shadows to it, but apart from that, it\'s superb.
I have a little request for you by the way...
A group of four adventurers stands on top of a hill, watching the sun rise over Yliakum. It\'s summertime, and the ground is green with grass, and covered with flowers. The sun are just about to rise over the mountains, coloring them red as blood.
The first adventurer is a Kran who looks a bit dumb and confused. He has no weapons, but doesn\'t look like he need any either. His strong arms is propably more than enough to scare away even the most horrible monsters in all of Yliakum.
Beside of him stands a girl with a staff in her hands. She looks happy and grins as she follows the beautiful sight in the horizon. She looks innocent and cute and doesn\'t seem much like an adventurer at all, more like a healer or a farmer-girl. She wears a white robe with blue patterns.
The third member of the party is a lemur who fully enjoys the sun. His face is proud, and by his side hangs a exclusive short-sword. He holds the right hand over his eyes to shield them from the sun, and seems to be searching for something in the horizon. His clothes is of the more exclusive type, and even an untrained eye can see that this is a man of wealth.
The last member of the party is a female Nolthrir, who is a more serious type. She looks around suspiciously and seems to be ready for anything. She has a longbow of the more aquatic type on her back, and she wears a long blue cape with strange symbols on.
It\'s just a request, so dont feel forced to do it if you dont want to. Take your time. :)

OR you could make daimyo Kezuke Minkasen (on a throne?) and his loyal bodyguards, a samurai, two ninjas and an not-so japanese looking alchemist/tinkerer.
I also have to say that all your art is WICKED and I havent told you so before because of lazyness...

Jeeez Loise, those are rather big requests... well once I\'ve got these dueling felows coloured and the lovely princess I decided on done then the pic I did of lucient in his battle outfit and the chibi-Lucient then yes I most certanly will do em so long as I get the magic word :)

wow... great work kintall (again) i like to see your not just using flat smooth textures like usual but you are mixing it up a bit EG: the good guys hair, the bad guys fist, skin and blade hilt. Very cool, anyone who says you havnt improved is an idiot.

Wow! Great work, I\'m looking forward to your other work! I have a request though, I would like a Xacha battlemage, dressed in medium armor. we need some new fad to roll through so kintall isnt so swamped with request. like sinon, why dont you start your art again? i would start mine again, but 1st of all, no one responds to it or doesnt like it and 2nd of all the ones that looked good were made using flash mx (im a lying cheater :P). i like the dragon on the paper how ever dont give it arms chinese / jap version of dragons do not have arms that big makein em smaller would make them look more orieantal , give it a bigger head add a bread and wiskers ? ho ho and horns as the asian type dragons tend to have a biger emphis on the head than body

I really like the jet bike lady, dont get me wrong but when i envisioned her jet bike after seeing her armor and body type i thought the bike would be a bit sleeker and sexier looking. no offence but the one she is in front of looks like a jet ski with rockets. Its your work, im just saying she could look a whole lot cooler with a sleek sexy looking bike.

S okie I think I found a way anyhow, well to thicken anyway just duplicate the ink layer then use a lightt guisan blur then duplicate that layer a number of times,
then merge visible, its a little long winded but hey
as far as thinning lines.. ahh well

yup, not that hard I dont think, I just scan him in then make a layer on top called ink, then do the outlines, fill in the basic colour areas with the bucket (have to draw colour bits in when the area isnt \"watertight\") then make layers on top of them and group them to previous (ctrl+G) then colour the shading/highlights and as far as the glowy rings go, if youl look back in this thread youl see my lil makeshift tute on how to make glowy rings, so I just free transformed them on a layer under the colour and inks then duplicated that layer and made a bigger one and fitted it around the other one but used the wind tool to blast it up a bit, as far as the fireball in his hand I found that lil trick today by accidebnt actually

I think the left hand has gotten a litle too big. So close to eaxhother it looks like his left hand is closer to me, but his left arm is bent and the left shoulder is behind the right.

About the scotchman: I like both the versions, just a little comment on the clothed version.
I would expect that pants on an eastern martial arts master, not on an insane scotchman, maybe remove the outer pants. That way he only wears it like it\'s a normal pants.

And about the angel: I expect an angel to have more white, bit yellow wings. Or transparent wings (glass-like).

Beautiful work kintall. I greatly admire your artistic abilities.
I would like to make a request: If you have seen the video released by the devs could you make a battle scene. The combatants would be one of the monsters contained in the video and a female dermorian (elivsh race). I was thinking of having the dermorian use claws as her primary weapons and have Earthen magical abilities. Mainly i have envisioned the monster partially entangled in vines and the dermorian charging to attack.
Any of these ideas can be changed as you see fit for it is your creation. If you have not seen the video it is posted in the news section of the PS website.

I know, and I\'ve tried a couple I even did a fine arts degree (dont bother the bit of paper you get at the end only has one use and then your out of toilet paper:P) I\"m darn fine at claywork I\'m ridiculously good at metal sculpture as I used to be a panelbeater and during a rough period in my life, money wise I produced and sold tattoo designs, but I do this to relax and the style I have is the one I\'ve found that I like, so yeah its my thing:)
and as far as more to life I\'m currently so damn busy I am having to make appointments to scratch myself theres a lot to life, too much in fact

I use Ulead Gif Animator for my gifs and make each seperate frame in PS 7.0. You might want to try that. I know you wanted an extension of photoshop, but this was is much easier.

Quwaar, you can... just practice and it willl happen. Hell I still think my stuff looks hap hazard, crap and amateurish when I see artists like Masamune Shirow, Satoshi Urushihara or Yoshiyuki Sadamoto (sadly the list goes on...)

Use perspective lines Q. I know it feels like you are in third grade again (or sixth depending) but they help a lot. I do architecture ?strait lines :)- and without perspective lines it would be a wreck. A train wreck even.

Monketh, yeah there is a less than overtly masculine edge there, that comes from two things, one is I\'m a fan of elegant non brutish faces on men, and secondly I instead of drawiing a figure essentialy genderless I now draw them female, my reasining being that female bodies are more three dimensional than mens giving me a better sense of depth to start from
as far as the tattoo goes it was actually quite simple I just drew a layer on top of the skin layer with the pattern in flat black then copied the layer I used to highlight the skin and grouped it to the tattoo layer and then changed its colour saturation down, then it was just a matter of giving it a slight outer downward bevel&emboss... all that came to me just after I finished this one for XpYtZ

there was a wallpaper contest and no one told me..? poopie, ahh well
and the wall was easy, all I did was (deep breath) flatten the completed images layers then copy that to a new 1024*768 blank image then do a render>clouds turn its opacity down put another copy of the image on top (shrink it first) then just put an outer glow here and there and Bob\'s yer transexual aunt, oh and I did a light motion blur on the back layer OH and I also copied the tattoo layer and gave it a glow as well (paste layer style) and put it under the resized piccy of the Enki fellow.. its WAY simpler than it looks.... really :)
oh I havent started elegrands request yet because.. well I just havent :) its been a LOOOOOOng 2 minutes

well I started the scetch for elegrands grand request.. this one may actually take a while... its even more complicated than that request Mogura shook me up with a while back (speaking of which ...:)) anywho this one should be good hopefully, and if anyone knows a good materials resource site/location give me a tinkle I\'m after lots of just general textures (rocks wood bricks stone tiles etc..)

Also, sice your the expert with Photoshop, could you explain to me how I would make a good shiny sword blade? Im trying to make this picture and I am just really getting frusterated with making the blade of a sword. YAYYYY, itrs essentialy done thers more I could do but well this will do for now, it has more layers than a bag of onions, and its made me cry just as much..

but anywho, I did find an intereting way of doing th shadows on everything, I made a layer of solid black on top put its opacity to like 40% then changed its blending mode to \"darken\" then used the eraser to cut the light areas out of that layer
and icefalcon as far as making swords shiny theres heaps of ways, the cheapest is using the layer blending properties bevel/emboss and satin, to do it yourself though can be a little harder but is well worth it, to be honest I\'m not all that good at it myself, but my way kinda works, I give it a shading region (on a grouped layer abover the sword\'s colour layer) then rub out one side of it then make another layer and do in solid white the shine layer

Hehe, i dont want to agree with you here. Beval, Embos and Alpha layer lighting isnt the best way to make such stuff. The best way is burn and dodge!
Kintall, i like your drawings, but your coloring style(oh, im no anime lover at all).
Have you ever tryed to color your drawings more realistic, whithout the outlines? Sure, it takes much more time, but IMHO it looks muuuuch better. I recomend you to use diferent brushes during the coloring and shadowing process, that makes it look more detailed.
Maybe this isnt the best example, but this what you can maku using only burn, dodge an smudge tools :)

:P I didnt say bevel and emoboss was the best I said it was the \"cheapest\" , and as far as burn and dodge goes, to be perfectly honest I havent used it. I\'m somewhat self taught as far as photoshop goes (today I figured a few more keyboard shortcuts :P).
and I have done more realistic styles, painting etc in fact I\'m classicaly trained.. (painting photography sculpture) it didnt take. and heck if I painted the colouring in, the pic could take ages, hell it probably took more than 3 hours all up allready
as far as the style I have, its the one I like. colouring this style is however quite new to me as is photoshop
I hope that I can start to do professional quality pictures in future.. hopefully
in other news I\'l soon have a gallery up and running as soon as I figure out how to make webpages and put them on my ftp ... I used MSword to make one before but I\'ve since forgotten how. Thankfully my friend is doing a big scary IT degree so he\'l probably know

I\'ve noticed that your lines looks very smooth. Is there a tool in photoshop for this? I\'ve seen something similar in Flash, but there must be something like that in Photoshop as well.
Constructive criticism about you latest masterpiece: The chair to the lower right doesn\'t look right in perspective if you compare with the chair the blue Enkidukai is sitting on, but that\'s the only error I can find.
Hehe, and that Hawaii-drink was a very funny add-on to the \"mystic stranger\" sitting at the table. A very parodical and funny image overall (and nice over-dimensioned beer-glasses btw. ;) )

In the planeshift art directory there is a file called ps.gif that is the logo by itself. Fairly big too so it should suit your needs.

Two humanoid mechs dueling on a large heat shield plummeting through the atmosphere. :P The heat shield is heat-absorbing side down, the reverse side that they\'re fighting on is brownish, and looks a bit like the bottom of an old car (pipes everywhere, places where it goes in...). The fact that it\'s a heat shield used to shield research ships from radiation prevents them, and the shield, from burning up. Of course a great ring of fire is coming up around the shield.

Kintall I love the new sketch, really nice. And I have a question... How do you make such fine line art. As soon as I make lineart, just scan-lighten-print-fineliner-scan. Just about done, just some adjusting the levels and brightness. Easy as that, but with that technic the lineart doenst lok that great. So my real question, could you make me/everyone a little tutorial on how to get some nice lieart. Just nice, smooth lines.
Or is this the secrect of the master ;)

this bits actually the hard part, reasong being that you need to draw it and think of it before that
so remember if the scetch sucks, all the photoshop filters in the world arent going to help any
so.. construction:

heads for the most part start with circles, I personaly start all my humanoids with the head then the backbone
anywho, lets move on to inking, first makea new layer on TOP of the scetch layer and call it \"ink\".
allways name your layers this gets important when your image gets to have about 50-60 layers (mine do sometimes)

now makikng sure you have the INK layer selected pick your brush, I reccomend a hard brush of about 5 pixels max diameter, but for mouse users probably about 3

now lets ink that wraskal, dont forget if you lines look as dodgy as a dibbler sausage, ZOOM IN you have way more control that way

its time to go colouring happy but before that we need \"remove\" the scetch so we are going to hide it behind a white layer that will sit between the backing and the ink we just did

now that we have put that nice white layer in place all we can see is a black and white image of just the ink

well its time for some basic colouring
so firstly make a new layer entitled: blue (or red or leather or whatever you happent to be coulouring)
and use the bucket fill to coulour the BASIC blue onto the picture, and then the other basic colours on to other separate layers
once we have these couours done (by done I mean correect, you can use this time to tune the individual colours to your liking with the hue/saturation thing)
we select the layer we are going to shade and then make a new layer on top of IT then group it to the previous layer (ctrl-G) so that it will only be visible where it overlaps the layer Under it.
confusded yet? good it gets worse (and ignore the fireball for now)

so now that we have made the shading layer and we have it selected theres one more thing to do before we shade, we pick a light source to shade by, for this I\'m going to use the fireball there as a light source (how to make fireballs is a separate tute okies)

Well this isnt the finished bandit pic but it is a request. its my design for one of the dueling mecha\'s monketh asked for, and just to make sure that this giant robot battle is still within the realms of planeshiftieness this Mecha is named ...

OK, we (The Mercenary Guild) needs a new picture for our main page. Could you make a variety of characters posing, holding different weapons, maybe one has a sword, one has a bow, one doing magic, one has an axe, and one a dagger (something like that). Could you make them have a serious expression on their face too. Anyway, if you have time and you feel like doing a big project...here it is.

good job on all the latest work kintall! bandit thing looks awesome, and thanks for the tutorial, i think it will help me alot, and thanks to whoever requested it (to lazy to back click lol), btw, how do you do ur shading, do you just use darker or lighter colors on seperate layers(i think thats the way ur tute explained it, and thats the way it looks like on your pics) or do you ever use the dodge tool, and on redish colors do you use the burn tool to make it darker?

Yes Im sure, We were discussing what to do with the main page and someone said we should get you to do us a picture. Empanao and Keung are good artists, but they do sketches only. We wanted something with color ;) Nobody will feel offended or anything...
I was thinking about 5 people... each with different weapons. Maybe make them a variety of races too, a kran, an elf, a klyros. Do what you like :]

Tauren:Good I\'m glad you like em, and I do hope it helps, as far as my shading goes I either have a layer with the shading colour on the grouped layer, or if I want to tune the colour a bit later I use a layer of gray on top and use the multiply blending mode, (and screen for highlights) that way when I use hue and saturation the colours match up :)

I was gonna say something but my connection went down last night.
You should be... eh... what\'s the word... yeah... stopped. But I guess you art people can just keep doing stuff. I like the tonfa-blades on the enk, reminds me of a crummy old weapon I did... cept minus the crummyness. The demon-angel thing in the background looks cool, though I\'m not sure how it fit\'s into PS, but I don\'t spose\' that part was your idea anyway.
The tattoo things seemed to do the oppositte of making the kran \"harder\"... the waviness doesn\'t perpetuate that well. Your style is very soft to begin with, so it\'s rather hard to do I\'d imagine. The shape of him kinda reminds me of the OogieBoogie from a Nightmare Before Christmas. I guess being rocks they could theoretically come in a lot of shapes though.
There is one thing I can\'t figure out, the axe thing right below the archer. Where is that coming from, who is holding it? I dunno if it\'s another staff for the mage or the monk guy is holding it.. can\'t really see.
I\'ve really lost track of your request que, but if you ever run out again, I\'ve got a pretty simple one. It\'s a cheetah spotted female enkidukai, possibly dressed in healers garb. She\'s standing alone, unsuspecting of the all black figure decsending upon her from above, with only his bluegrey eyes and silly grin clearly visible. The race of that character can\'t really be seen (though it\'s obvious enough it\'s not a kran ;)) The assailant is unarmed and attacking with more mischevious than malicious intent. And if that\'s too easy, draw it from a mouse eye point of view on the floor, since I hear perspective is hard to do like that (of course drawing a cube is hard for me). But eh... or you can just keep doing interesting work, that\'s just what I\'d want for selfishness.
And it\'s pretty clear you\'re getting just plain damn good with Photoshop now too, with the pineapple grenade and orange star, that\'s awesome. But the lemon cannon is gonna be a real (virtual) working weapon, fear it :D! Of course if it were to fall into orange hands it could easily be modified for orange use... and start a war or something...

Wedge: Yeah the kran does look a bit soft, I\'m still not entirely used to colouring with photoshop or colouring at all really, the tattos are also a little softening, but they addd much needed detail to an otherwise plain character type
and its the bald guy holding the axe, I didnt really notice untill half way through the inking how badly his and the blonde young womans arms clashed, but by then it was too late

Pretty Enki! :) Great job done on the spots. Sometimes artists (like me) just randomly paint spots and say \"there... its teh leopard!!11\". But you\'ve actually put thought into their pattern and placement and it works really well.
The only thing I can fault the pic with is that the outline of her eyes gets a bit wobbly in places. You could also thicken the top line or add some eyelashes to make her look that little bit sweeter. :)
And as for the orange cannon... *phears the oranges of doooooom* (Nicely done. :) )

I just noticed something... is it just me, or is she completely shadow-free? ?( I can see the gradient shading which makes the figure look a little more 3D, but there\'s no enviromental shadowing. I think that would really really enhance the look of this (already fantastic) piece.

Firstly I\'m just damn happy with this one , its got the detail, and the movemenyt I wanted as well as (hopefully) fitting Moguras Request, some minor notes of interest are one: the necklace, it is in fact a REAL necklace that Mogura requested be inluded in the finished work, it was compositited well I hope, as for the rest I\'lk leave up to the community to point out/at

Edit: Oh I guess I should kinda announce that this is another character I\'m bringing to PS. :) As its already been said, she\'s called Iris Osiris. She\'s a Ylian vampire (yuh huh :P) who prefers fencing swords for combat and has a little innate magic ability (Red way).
She\'s arrogant, and a bit stubborn (who does that remind me of, hmmm....) but considers herself high class and more important than the \"commoners\" she sees around her.
She\'s also evil aligned. Although, she\'s not sadistic... she\'s just the type of person who\'d feel a pang of hunger and decide to grab the next innocent being who happens to pass her by. :P Of course, she doesn\'t consider this abduction or assault... just getting \"a quick bite to eat\". :D
She wears my rl dagger necklace which, along with Moogie\'s cross necklace, represents one side of me. :P The evil side of course.

Isis Osiris is a horrible name =P. And you better hope there is some health draining spells/skills now.
About the artwork though... ummmm.... wow. The jacket is very Alucard-ish, which I spose\' is great for a vampire. If she prefers fencing, why does she have a giant soul sucking scythe though? Oh well, it looks real cool anyway. The mummy-wrap for a shirt is neat... though seems a bit odd for the otherwise elegant outfit. She looks so sweet for an evil vampire though... maybe shows off some fangs a little? And of course I\'d be remiss to not mention this is certainly your most... errr... shapely character yet. But I\'m gong to stop staring at her mid-riff eventually... y\'know... just examining the tatoo... really..............................huzahwah! Errr yeah and the scribblies outlines in the background are niftiness too.

The idea is pretty much like the mercenary pic...but the pic should be pretty different.
Id like a pic of the Ashes members, a rogue, a blind monk (with red robes and black eyes:)),archer with magic arrows, pirate with dual swords, a klyros healer and a fighter with sword and shield...it should look like they are running into battle or storming a place...check pic below!

I never really look at the art forum because I basically see a bunch of swords, etc. Or I look at specific things if Mogura posts a pic and tells me the url or something. But now I just went through 21 pages of your work and everyone\'s ooh\'s and aah\'s over it, and I totally agree:

Seeing all the pages in a row, I can definitely see your progression--at least in skill with Photoshop. Personally, I like your darker, scarier pics (the Kintall shadow one, the mech preview sketches, the flaming demon boy) better than the action pics. I also think the cutesy anime ones are nice and cutesy (cat with butterfly for Moogie). Iris?isis? Whatever. She\'s hot. All chicks should wear their pants that low. ;-) That tatt reminds me of the tattoo on the back of the neck of the girl in Primal.
So why aren\'t you a dev? We need 2d devs who can crank out concept art pics at a huge rate. We\'re working on some stuff now that would blow your mind, and you could help us blow all the fans\' minds. Please find the url on the site for how to apply, write the damn email to Talad and let\'s get you started mate.
Sounded like you are doing some \"where am I now?\" type thinking and that\'s no fun. I\'ve been there and I feel for you. I hope you get through it well, but in the meantime let\'s channel some of that frustration into PS now. :-)

I think you should try using colors that aren\'t so strong and contrasty. The shadows \\ light should be a bit less noticed too. But I guess these things are inseparable parts of manga... :rolleyes:

Heya, sorry bout the lack of updates, I did a bit of hard thinking about where my life is headed, and whilst nursing is a reliable career choice, its not something I like and I thiunk if I go for a reliable life decision in place of one I want it will ultimately lead me to a empty life devoid of meaning. Design however holds much merit though, they\'l teach me how to better use photoshop and imageready, as well as 3d programs and Design to product steps.. so I think I\'l do that.
As far as being a dev goes... I\'d love to, I thought the only reason I hadnt gotten the word before was because I wasnt quite good enough yet, well I\'l be sending the mail to to mr Talad after I write this message, Thankyou Vengeance your reccomendation has really helped me :)
I\'d like to thank you all for your words of support and so on :), and you never know, I might get to have an avatar one day :)
P.S that ashed picture is coming along great... problem being that the landlord visited to day so the place got CLEANED , meaning all my drawing stuff got put in the proper place...

I rarely come to this forum, but thought I\'d better take a peek if I was to vote for an artist in Aelya\'s thread.
I looked at the first page, thinking yeah pretty nice anime style stuff, nothing special though. But before I knew it, a stupid amount of time had disappeared into nothingness and I had gone through the whole thread - completely absorbed into your works! Venge is right you can definitely see amazing progression, just in the space of this thread, and I am totally blown away by your latest stuff and your astounding proliferation.
Your characters ooze personality and each pic almost tells it\'s own story. Kintall is definitely too big a character to be contained in pics and does demand his own comic strip to tell his story :)
It would be crime if you don\'t manage to get to use this skill professionally, but I can only imagine how hard it must be to get into the field, once upon a time it was my dream to have such a career, but unlike you I don\'t think I could ever produce work at the required rate, and once you\'ve chosen a different path you soon lose your spare time to pursue the other.
I\'m sure the PS team would really benefit from your skills and I hope you decide to pursue membership. It\'d better not stop you posting here though!

These are philosophical words. Decisions such as these are not made lightly, but I think you decided well, and that is not because I selfishly want to see more of your artwork... although I do. ;)

sorry for the near absolute lack of, well anything lately, its been and may yet be an odd week... birthday, dev aplication etc..
so I sketched up something for thise that still poke the fanart forums :)
it came fom the idea I had for Armour apperances, basivaly make say, 6 different sets of meshes for each gender/race then have a few differnt coloured skikns for each so that the armour appearance can change with the equipment.. you know or it could just be me :)

Personally I think you are a phenomenal artist, and also I think you have improved greatly even in the past 2/3/4 (?) months of posting in the art forums. You are also seemed to produce work at a prolific rate and some kind of insatiable appetite for creating images - I can?t think of any better qualities (aside from actual skill which you have in bucket loads) for a profession artist.
I always check out this thread, every time I am here, just to see your artworks that infallibly make me smile. I imagine you will e a little more busy now though ? I will miss the 3 pictures per day rate :) but I am sure I can live?

It looks awesome...except for the tatoo, I think it should be smaller and placed higher up, (forehead?) Thanks, yeah he does have a nice high collar, I first fell in love with high collars of that sort with Vincent from FF VII, as for the glasses they are supposed to be mechanical, and multi lensed, and him personaly. Well dont laugh bu he\'s a half hedgehog ninja sherrif vampire hunter :) I know, it gets even better in context, or should that be worse... :)

okiedokie chickens heres Kintalls Uber cheap \"glowy\" shtuff tute :)
step one, on a separate layer from your background draw some random squigglies, for more detailed light effectiethings just make the suqigles more detailed

then use a radial blur, (zoom) and make it as string as it gets and do it a few times, (if the thing you want to blur isnt in the center of the frame make it the centre of a selection, like the circle selector)

then either Hue/saturation it till its the right colour or use the colour verlay in blending properties, and the colour on the edges is made with outer glow

I am in the land of Uninspired, I fear my abilitys arent wanted on the PS team.
Talad hasnt asked me to do anything for ages, he has my email, so yeah I think that there are very set ideas on how things will be.
but its Talads game, not mine and I can see why he wants his vision to be exactly as he wanted it to be.
after all the work hes put into it it is his right alone to decide what style of contribution he wants, so yeah if he decides to email me I\'l gladly work up a storm but yeah. I think he wants something more \"traditional\" and thats fine. it is after all a very definate dungeons and dragons style of thing and there are very limited scope of things available with in that framework. I am not saying in any way that this is a bad thing I merely am expressing regret that my chosen style it seems isnt quite compatible with that framework. I could of corse be completely wrong and talads just lost my email.. but then my email is available through this forum thread so what is a poor scribbler to do?

I don\'t want to upset you, you have good art, coloful, joyful etc. but as much as it is, to me it doesn\'t look more than just vivid cartoons.
But you are getting there, on last few compositions your hand seems to becoming adept.
You are right, your style is much different, but it\'s really not unique. I see plenty of it on online comix, where the atmosphere suppose to be playful and anime like.
Basically you draw in your style and continue to do so, but maybe try to learn different ways or something, it won\'t hurt u one bit, maybe u\'ll even like it oO

I\'ve just look at some of your work Kintall. It\'s obvious that between the first and last pic of this post you\'ve made progress.
You know, if you want to join a game team, you must fit to the setting and style, you don\'t always have the choice in what you\'re doing.
Planeshift is far from being the common thing you said. There are tons of freedom in drawing and creating monsters and environnment especially.
Yes the playable races are pretty common. Why? Because it\'s a way of avoiding mistakes that can\'t be repaired by making too original (and so without too much informations) main characters. So we can work their background.
Now, I\'m not surprised that Talad hasn\'t taken you in the team. I think your work is good but doesn\'t fit with character concept. You should work more on texture and details of your drawing or it will not be really useful for the modelers.
It could work on some manga-inspired games but PS tend for more realistic graphics.
Anyway, if you want to be part of the team, try to fit to PS style.
I don\'t know if you intend to be a professional illustrator in the future, but be sure not every company will hire just for your style because it\'s actually too common.
It\'s good to have your own way of drawing but you must learn something else.
That\'s the better advice I could give you.
For example, take a piece of paper and try to mix some different paper color with paint, marker, perhaps even modeling clay to create something more living.
You have a potential IMO because you can express something with drawing.
Try something more agressive, right now you\'re like britney spears in music: it\'s funny, enjoyable to listen, but there is no risk taken, you don\'t go far enough.
Well if I make a post that long, that\'s because I think you can do better ;)

Aye my style isnt as Dark and oogy boogy boogy as the game may need, and yeah I do cartooning (which more than a person or two has told me during the course of my life isnt \"real\" art and never will be to anyone that matters... ever).

Now I totally agree with Sashok, you\'re used to too much positive comment to listen to criticism.
You should try to post your pic on the sijun forums for example to see what the comments are.
It\'s important, perhaps even essential to not be arrogant about your work. You can and you must be proud of every new step you reach but don\'t think you do something that original!
To be honest, it reminds me a lot Saint Seya.
If you don\'t want to listen to advice and try to open your mind you will not progress.
Stay on earth, it\'s not art, it\'s illustration (is that an english word?). Of course we could debate about what is art or not.
Try to watch some work of contemporary artist for example.
And please don\'t take everything I said for an agression. It\'s cool to have advice. I don\'t say I\'m a great graphist, but I have tons of experience, I\'m working in videogames industry. Don\'t you think it\'s interesting to be able to share experience?
That is probably one of the best thing in PS team. So if you want to join the team, you must first be able to communicate.

Nobody is asking you to quit your current style, animeish, because you are great at that. They are just saying you could expand on your artistic skills and try out a new style. Doesn\'t mean abandon your anime, just see what you can do in a different style. Whats wrong with being great at everything? ;)

Dues to the current topic of the thread i make a little suggestion , i am reading a bunch of comics strips those days , perhaps you could try to make a black and white one , with perhaps only the very first picture in color ( for the title ) , or only when special stuff happen , and showing it in like 4 successive replies , in order we dont have the complete story too quick, and you have some time to write it.
Also , about your PS tasks perhaps you could beg one to talad if he didn t gave one to you recently, or try to do texturing if you worked on UI stuff , or the reverse, also the PS site could use some fresh up, i am 00% skilled at doing nice looking stuff, i only do fonctional stuff, perhaps we could do something for it if talad is okey ( better you do texture stuff if you can, this would speed CB release in fact ).

and I\'m well aware of the need for growth, but I dont feel I wish to do it in a classical painting direction, when I did my fine arts degree (that means I\'m an adept painter sculptor and photographer) all the people there who painted as their chosen feild were the biggest bunch of \"sexual self gratifiers\", and I just didnt enjoy it..
and if talad wants me he can bloody well email me, and this time if he dont say even please or thankyou I\'l tell him to go stand on his head in a pigpen, he may be the leader of this project but it wouldnt kill him to be polite. his english may be \"unique\" but hell the first thing I learnt in japanese class was \"Arigato gozaimasu\"

I have always liked your style Kintail. Until the recent Dev matters I thought you were more interested in animation or illustration than modeling or doing concept art anyhow. I suppose I was wrong. I?m sure that we would all love to see what other styles you have hidden up your sleeves.
Don?t take any of it two personally, I know it?s your creation and it cuts like hell when it gets criticized but it can be a motivating factor. I also know I?m preaching to the choir, but its all these years of laboriously learning to be a writer. Criticism (and my inability to receive it properly) is the only reason I have not posted any stories in the forums. At least you have the (reproductive organ)s to post your practice. :))

We all get mad at our prospect-managers some times.
I remember getting pretty pissed at Boonet when he was managing for mine. (about a year ago)
And I\'m very happy now that I didn\'t complain and instead took his hard words and tried to make it impossible to say that again about my work.
so after 2 month I got my first \"not bad, keep going with that\" and ever since there is less and less things to complain about.
Talad is not a artist though, but he can see the diffrent between what\'s nice and what is not. and that\'s really the whole point of managing.
When you have created something that have taken time your brain will try to convince you that it\'s nice (even if it\'s far from perfect, becouse the brain wants pleasure and avoid dissapoinment) that\'s why it can be tough to hear from the manager whos whole point is to spot what\'s wrong with the work.
I think aarobber wants you to do stuff for him so Talad will probebly not be the one managing your future task anyway..

Even if I concentrate really hard, I still can\'t remember what hair looks like, so I need another picture to remind me. Even then, I\'m not able to think of more than one style of hair, and you seem to have a pretty good resume of different hair styles... I think should stop talking about hair now. People are going to think I\'m obsessed with hair. HAIR!!!!! :P
Anyway, man, you\'ve got the skills. If Talad doesn\'t want to take advantage of them, I\'m sure there are lots of other places that will. In my experience, artists are alway difficult to find. But since we already know where you are, we are ahead of game. :)

Planeshift not having a working game behind it just dony hold my attention for all that long, and its all well and good to say its a community game but lets face it: if Talad dont want something in HIS game, it never will be.
and you know what, thats totaly fair He\'s probably been on this project for longer than anyone and its HIS baby and I respect that
and as far as the PT world to twiddle drawings of, I gotta say its very limiting and not all that original
yes I know it doesnt have dragons, NOT having things doesnt make it original. its al been done anyway, the best you can hope for is to do your own original path along the well trodden ground
I know I\'l cop a lot of flames etc but really I have enough respect for this board to at least give it my honesty instead of just saying some BS to cover the fact that this thing is not the most original thing since sliced bread and there is a very real chance that after all is said and done the game may just.. suck, ther are games that have had more money and more talented people (ones getting paid) behind them and still sucked
and on the note of hacking, I played a game called \"Phantasy Star Online\" I really liked it, but the amount of people that figured out how to hack that game was ludicrus, as was diablo etc etc
what I wondered and I hope never to se with this game is: how bad it would have gotten if those games were open source?
as for the \"roleplaying\" element of the game, I really think that would be wonderfull, games are supposed to be an escape a new world. Thats what ROLEPLAYING games are supposed to be about... but if and when the game is up to beta or beyond that whole thing will die because the players will be just people who want a free diablo and after the four hundredth \"SSJ9_GoG3TenKz\"
and \"Sephiroth78654\" have signed up the world will be full of jerks just like the real world. and thats when the escape dies
inspite of its professed originality the game looks to be taking a lot from tabletop RPG\'s namely the large amount being from D&D, (dungeons and dragons) now thers a lot of stigma about D&D and the social status of the players in some circles (ie Its dorky as hell) and the fact that this will alienate people is fine. its just not being made for them, but what if they all joined the community anyway and decided that they wanted to make it an action game?
of couse nothing would happen, thats as ludicrus as the community wanting nudity in the game, No one would put that in. but then where is the line between community contribution and unrealistic requests?
the line doesnt rest with the mob/community and never will, the mob is stupid and bloodthirsty and disrespectfull and online it gets even worse so the one who gets the final veto is the project head and no one else, and thers no reason that would be a bad thing, consider if the community did get TOTAL controll over every element in the game, Planeshift would prabably end up being about a naked woman who drives an american muscle car and whos boobs fire lazers or some such nonsense
I really do like Planeshift in spite of all that, but like all things its important to look for flaws because if you deny them theyl never be fixed
I\"l be keeping an eye out for the game and this lovely board, it\'s got great potential and it would be a real shame to have it all end in quiet mediocrity

We\'ve got that, mainly because while making the effects and testing them, the art team kept shorting out their keyboards so the \"Point\'N\'Drool\" Magic system was thrown out (You know I\'m just kidding, ... right?)
Kintall, you know you aren\'t limited to drawing the PS world, since people like to see your artwork, especially tutorials (^_^) regardless. And if the Mods in the sky nix that, post it on Kada\'s tavern (Although I can\'t speak for her, but that is the second largest forum in my experience), or, Heck, on my forums. (Wait, my forums vanished with a loud kaboom a short while ago, so you\'ll need a rain check on that). I for one am curious on what you\'re working on nowadays, well, what art you\'re working on... Can\'t say I understand whatever it is you actually do when you\'re not drawing and stuff...
Most importantly, don\'t get your knickers in a knot just because the art team hasn\'t needed your skills (yet?). That is water under the bridge... And... Wait, was that a screaming Ynnwn that just floated over the edge of the waterfall? Oh, well, too late.

ah, come on, always these whining about those stupid dragons... perhaps they look great but if you think a bit about it you will see they are ...boring. Every fantasy knight has atleast killed one of those beasts... they are so... common.
You are insulting my creativity if you say I couldn\'t come up with something more original than a dragon. ;)
Btw, all you have seen so far are the player races, how can you say we don\'t have original monster if you haven\'t seen them?
And about your task... CB is near, and Talad is busy you should know that. I\'m sure he didn\'t forget you. A quote from the news:

One problem with you task was that you removed/moved some of the pictures, so we wasn\'t able to find them after a while - quite hard to work with a vanished picture.
And you left your task unfinished... if you had a question you could have asked on the dev channel you needn\'t to write an email. If you had done enough conceptart for your task we would have told you.
Perpaps it would als be advisable to modulate your drawing style a bit so it fits better the PS background. Don\'t get me wrong, your style is good and okay, but i remember you once said you have an other drawing style too... could be interesting to see some examples of it :)

and talad has his moments I\'m sure, I\'m just bringing up a couple O tings I think. concerns nothing more. If I though planeshift was just crap doomed and totaly buggered. I\'d bloody well say so I\"m not big on mincing words and I dont plan to be. I personaly think this whole thing has some AWESOME potential and a great base to work from
as for the pics being hard to find.. well they are still up on my own FTP, the link in the email I sent Talad (goes to check) still works, I sent it to him numerous times both in IRC and in the aforementioned email, I am picturing it

this one I think falls to the project head being to busy to notice everything. with a project like this I can imagine 20-30 people wanting(and needing) his immediate and full attention and him not having the ability to operate that many irc windows at once

If you really get that damn put off by the style that you cant distingish or apreciate the design that it depicts, then either you need an optometrist or a good hard look at the pre judgements of what styles you like/dislike affecting what you think of the content, I\'m not pretendint to be free of artistic Bias I personaly think that anything post-modern is a giant crock of \"you know what\"and that minimalism is a great way of separating morons from their money without even having to pretend to try,
now those judgments are not fair but they are mine to make

And good luck with the trials and tribulations of working on a dev team. I signed up as art person thingie on a development team and in a week or so I had become the on;y person who knew a darned thing about managing a project. So, since absolutely nothing had happened aside from a themesong and the website I made, I left. (Is it just me or are a lot of people here also regulars of the zodiac gamer board? I know there is an alucard and I think I saw a Ciocc (ciocc tried to join the dev team but leaked the story to half the universe before we had even finished it >:| ) )
