I searched keyword mail and never found a already made thread so! I will make my own :)
We should have a ingame newspaper type system created with current events, wartime news between guilds, market stuff, job offerings, wanted, etc...It would not only create a new feature but a new job and probally would create a new guild with it. If we could have it so whoever is the author of the paper could actually create the paper in game and just type it in a text box and then approve it to go that would be a cool thing. It could cost like 5 ruby a paper and it would be released like once a day or once a week doesn\'t matter, and it wouldn\'t cause a problem in inventory if they would stack like crystals and then you just double click on the newspaper item and it would say how many you have and the dates on each so you can keep a track on events from the past.
Then a portion of the money used to buy a newspaper could go into a town box, it would automatically transfer there and then you could set up a lottery system and the winnings would be whatever was made up from the newspaper + lottery ticket buys in the game!
I know it is primitive explanation, but if this is a idea that would be looked into for future releases i would be glad to explain the ENTIRE system.

Why did you search for \"mail\" when you\'re talking about a \"newspaper\"? If you had searched on that term, you would\'ve returned hundreds of discussions.
-
>:( Damn! Oh well....I still think it is a good idea especially how can it can mix in with a lottery system.
-
a mail system would be cool though. Sending telegrams and letters... A bit like the e-mail system in neocron, of course thats set in the future... so i guess since we are in the past the mail would acctually have to take time to arrive. But then i guess people would just use the OOC channel, or the player to player help channel, or the guild channel, or whatever so they can talk to people miles away instantaneously, which is hardly true to reality... i mean maybe if you are a high level mage... nevermind
-
Still though, it\'d be good for rping.
-
this is yet another thing that i believe would be ebst left to a guild to perform
ie. u give the guild a player name + rough location/location of house & a parcel & some payment.... they make the trip
-
well I\'m not sure if I\'d trust some guild to transport important things. Especially if I\'d see recruiting newbs...
-
well obviously the guild would need to build up a reputation of honesty and reliability
-
well then they can\'t recruit newbs, because newbs might get bored and not even deliver the message --> rep goes down
but they won\'t recruit anyone else, because every newb there is will be recruited by mass-recruitment guilds :P
-
or they could have a system of increasing responsability with rank and members having to prove themselves to climb the ranks
ie
lvl1 would only get unimportant tasks
lvl9 would be charged with transporting the deed for a castle
-
Well Newspapers would be very good for roleplaying, whoever controls the paper can control Propaganda! Propaganda is a strong tool for real life and probally for a mmorpg to :)
-
Well, this is sort of on-topic and off-topic, but couldn\'t there be a way to buy/rent NPC and use that as a mailman? A never sleeping/tiring workman.
-
Yes there probally could be but I wonder how they would script that AI on the MailMan NPC because it would not be set to go to one place everytime would have to probally go to multiple places.

actually there arent too many. Just mine and about 2 other peoples. Its a nice idea which i would love to see implemented. If it was my class might just change from animal trainer to newspaper editor. That would be a fun job...

Lol I would so be one of your lackeys if you became the newspaper editor !

well i\'m going to bring this post back alive for a brief moment
i would like to see a mail system where you could send mail to someone offline and they would get the messege the next time they log into the game :D
-
actually I think a mailing system would be not only cool, but simple. you could have a \"mailbox\" at your house. when you want to mail an item or a letter, you put it in the mailbox, then a window pops up with a textbox where you type in the name of the recipient. then the \"mail\" is put into said persons houses mailbox, or if they don\'t have a house, it could go to a post office, most likely the post office would be in the city closest to the physical location of the player. or perhaps, the player can assign himself an address, a specific post office where he\'ll pick up his mail.
-
My thread lives again muhahaha!! I like your idea rumblebelly it would make communication that much easier and that is very important \"COMMUNICATION\"
-
hehe, yeah, but MY idea would allow for transfer of items as well :P
-
I actually think that the \"mail\" aspect of this idea becomes critical (at least to RP in-game) as we start getting into more complex relationships in the world.
Consider inter-guild relations, where particular members are the emmisaries of their respective guilds. Whether for alliance or for war, how else are these two going to contact each other if they happen to be 12 time-zones apart in Real Life? Their only fallback would be out-of-game forums or e-mail, which I suppose would be workable but certainly not ideal in a game where the objective is an immersive IN-game Rp experience.
Best Regards,

I agree. In wow I loved the mail system. It makes it a little easier to get ahold of people instead of PMing them on the forum or whatever. Not sure how hard it is to set up but it would be nice to have.
-
Yeah the WoW mail system could be great. It was well done. You pay to send letter (depending on the size, if u put item and money). And when the person connect (after a delay) he receive his things :)
Yep a good idea that must not be forgotten.
-
Wow... this thread won\'t die, will it. :P
Whatever...
I think in-game mail is a must have, at this point. Not everyone is on at the same time, or even awake at the same time.
Without houses yet, you\'d have to get them on login, unfortunately.

I agree, I think some sort of 5 tria stamp should be required, higher for packages.
I think this along with a warehouse for storing items, are both very much needed features.
-
a good idea never dies. it just keeps getting reborn.
i like the idea. but, i sense a non-trivial system.
maybe something patched into the registration e-mail address? and only sendable from the char select screen. and works kind of like tells, but not in real time. when you try to send the message a window would pop up that says if the char is currently in game. proceed with mail.
at least in first interation.

Hmm, why drag the char selection screen in? Why not make it like /tell? Like have a /mail command that pops up the inventory and a mini-inventory like with /trade (and, while you\'re at it, add the money to the mini-inventory screen :) ), with the addition of a name field of the one to send it to. No reason to indicate if the adressee is online or not, because that isn\'t IC and also can be accomplished via /tells, and isn\'t really important, anyway.
It would then store the items / message / money in an outbox style secondary inventory for the sender.
Now the problem is what to do when the receiver doesn\'t have sufficient space / weight capacity to hold the stuff. Sending back can\'t be done since meanwhile the sender might get more stuff to have the same problem, so the only way would be to check beforehand, thereby removing the option of having a delay in the delivery.
Except, and this would rock: have a central location in the major locations. In RP, we already assigned the post office to Jayose. After all, the drawers look like mail boxes.
So then people could go to their local post office and check their inbox, removing the capacity problem.
You can even make the delivery quick if you send it in the same post office the person will be checking it out, taking a lot longer when the offices differ, with a distance that can easily be calculated.
The sender thus would need to send the message / items / money to a player name and a post office, like Hydlaa, Magicshop or Ojaveda. This could very easily be migrated to houses once they are implemented. In fact, this way needs to remain an option even then, because of the people who don\'t own a house, for whatever reason. Like post boxes IRL.

Hmm... I see a good idea for a player job here. You could just go to the nearest post office, and ask for an inter-town mail delivery job. Grab a full inventory of packages, then off to the other town to deliver them. To prevent cheating though, the package items given for the quest should be \"destroyed\" and vanish on death (or double /unstick).

Hmm, why would it? After all, the FAQ says that it is intentional that you get your items back when leaving the DR. Why would this be differrent with quest items?
But yeah, this might be a good thing to have players do. Though care must be taken in determining of whether to allow thieving.
Char1 decides to send mail. 10000000 tria.
Char2 does the quest and is given a package
Scenario 1: Char2 cannot look at the package, and it cannot be sold. The delivery job yields 5 tria per parcel. Char2 eventually delivers the parcel, at a random time.
Scenario 2: Char2 can examine the package, sees it\'s contents and immediately needs to decide whether or not this is sufficient to corrupt their morale. 5 tria vs 10000000 tria.
Scenario 3: Char 2 either doesn\'t get the package or doesn\'t get to look at it because Char1 used an option to indicate \"safe dlivery\". Like it is done in other games, thieving should have to be agreed upon but you get a malus if you don\'t. Like you have to pay a higher price for all packages you send for a while (to remove option to only pay safe for valuable packets).

kind of for the utility aspect.
items would still have to be picked up at the post office, and messages with items attached. but any messages could be picked up at the char select screen.

If it didn\'t, you could go to the Akkaio post office, take the quest, then kill yourself or double /unstick, and get to the Hydlaa post office much faster and easier.
The other option is to just make the quest one-way, and have some sort of different quest available at the Akkaio post office. The Akkaio quest could be to deliver a package to an NPC on Oja road, or something. (aka, in the middle, so you can\'t cheat)

I believe you won\'t be able to \'travel\' this way in the future, so it shouldn\'t be a problem.
-
You will be able to travel the \"die then come back to Hydlaa\" way if devs dont get any more spawn points to come back from the DR..
