Title: Radeon Theories
Post by: Silverion on March 01, 2004, 02:23:51 pm
I have the random idea that the Radeon cards and drivers are incompatible with the engine MB. Why else would we be getting crashes, lockups, DirectDraw, and other problems with only those that use Radeon family cards?

This is definitely a problem that cannot be overlooked with a simple \"reinstall windows\" that many support guys like to say....

Maybe.

fact#1 the engine is CS
fact#2 the version MB uses is old, so it should get better with CB
fact#3 it works fine in linux :D
fact#4 not everyone has problems

Well done. :) Although you\'re somewhat late... we all already know that PS doesn\'t like Radeon cards. Just wait for CB, or better still, dive into the sourcecode and figure out what causes the problem. :)

I must have also been a very lucky guy.
My Radeons: 7000, 9000, 9600, and 9800, have all worked flawlessly....

Silverion, if you\'re calling for help, give more details on your system please. Same for others who read this and have the same troubles with their ATI.

Same as Madouc and Xordan, here. It\'s stable with OS=XP Pro SP1, SDRAM=768 MB, Video=9800XT with driver version 7.962-031202m1-012924C-ATI (not used yet to ATI, do they always have such complicated revision numbers ? - basically Catalyst 03.10).

It doesn\'t mean much though, I\'ve seen recurrent problems with PS that have never been solved. It would help much if people wrote about their specs and especially the driver revision number since it can ruin or boost your system from one version to another. If there was a database with this, most problems could be identified much easier and faster, it would even be possible to automate a part of it (i.e. prune 99% of the obvious cases that are always the same).

What about a part of the site to actually do this, \"forcing\" people to give the information on their system when they need help ? It suffices to read this part of the forum to be convinced it would save a lot of time and energy.

But let\'s get our feet back on the ground again  ;)

My Raidon 7500 work without any problems..but you must remember ATI drivers are the worst in the world...simply \'cos they don\'t make \'em...
