what about a merchent horse and cart to take sellable items from town to town for people that have to much to carry on their person.
-
Why not? Merchants can use transport means as much as other classes.
-
Well that leaves a question in my head, what happens when you log off will the cart disappear or just stay there ?
-
It should stay where you log off, however you can have the opportunity to leave it in safe-keeping at an inn, or if you have a house, or something like that. :)
-
I think carts should be jackable
-
euhm.... read ps main site. One of the birds(dunno which one) is able to carry stuff.
Animal trainer
Animals are used as companions of travel or as colleagues in many jobs. Animals can entertain in shows and arts, can bear heavy weights, can be useful to hunt, to find hidden objects, to guide through dangerous places, to fly. The trainers should have patience and leadership, be gentle and strong at the same time and have quick reflexes.

i dont see anywhere that one of the birds will be able to fly, it just says that some animals can bear heavy weights, doesnt say anywhere that the flying creature/s does

I have a model for a mobile cage that you can see in my thread. (http://www.planeshift3d.com/wbboard/thread.php?threadid=7885&boardid=22&styleid=3&sid=822f83b40f758b3dab7642bf8c2ca984&page=2).
I think i can modify it to be a cart of some sort.
P.S. the model that you see is not complete. Unfortunatly my comp crashed and the disc that had the finished+skined (looked great) model may be whiped for ever. I will try to resurect it... but im not sure i can...

This is grief causing, not something the devs want.

Read elsewhere on the site. It says quite explicitly that the Megara can carry heavy loads.
The second flying animal is the Megaras, which is similar to a giant bat. Scientists believe the Crystal has genetically mutated the Megaras, since they reproduce only in Yliakum. These bat-like creatures are not as docile as the Pterosaurs, but they are stronger and more efficient, making them perfect to carry heavy but not too delicate loads, such as food and building materials. As with the Pterosaurs, each mercantile society is allowed to own only one Megaras.
Anyway, there is of course the idea of having many types of carts. Big, small, wooden, fungi-like, seaweed, animal bone, etc. Also having a caravan of carts, where many merchants gather \'round and go off trading. And then a bunch of NPC raiders or guild enemies decide to ambush the poor caravan, and then some bloody things happen and the merchants are looted.
Now...
Discussion Question -
Should the carts have secret compartments? What should be in them?
Should there be decoy carts, to trick a guild enemy to attack the fake merchants (actually warriors wearing merchant clothing)?
-
yah ofcourse it will be grief causing but so is being pked out in some field while your traveling to a nearby village :D
-
Of course almost every great idea aleays comes back to PvP and Thieving *sigh* We will just have to wait for CB... But I do hope we will be able to jack the carts, hehe that would be awesome.

Exactly why there\'ll be no open PK either. Don\'t you read? :P
I think if somebody logs off and leaves their cart standing around, they deserve to have it looted. :) It\'s not grief causing, it\'s just the same as being careless in combat and dying as a result.

Yes!! Exactly like Grand Theft Auto!! :D
-
Snap out of it Niber :P
Anyways, I think cart\'s should be used a lot more then they usually are in games, you sometimes don\'t even need one since you can just put 8 axes, 5 longswords, a few spellbooks and whatever in your \"inventory\"..
I think it would be interesting to see an actually realistic carying system(I think there\'s a thread about this somewhere), where you can only cary stuff with your hands(2 weapons or tools). and you\'d have to buy a backpack or something if you\'d want to cary more. That would of course greatly increase the use of carts aswell since you wouldn\'t be able to cary that much in the backpack either.

hey! I want to hold two longswords in my hands, hide another two in sheaths. Add a two-handed sword on my back and two daggers in top of my boots.
A load of stuff in pockets and maybe under hat.
but nooo.... only two weapons or tools... you call that realistic? :P

That includes sheats for weapons :P
You could put some stuff in your pockets.. but really not that much, maybe a few potions and spells or something. My point was that most games just overdo it, there\'s really no way you can carry 5 axes in your \"inventory\" and still have a realistic story behind it.. you just have to buy extra container objects like sheats, bags, carts etc.
-
ok, make it swords behind belt, not in sheaths... same thing :P
and yea, games overdo. But they are still more realistic than max 2 weapons/tools in inventory...
-
I\'m all for a realistic game, but one where you can\'t even haul back a good lot of loot from a monster hunt is no fun. And tell me, how many warriors drag carts to a monster hunt? Hmm?

*pokes Moogie*
What if the server decides it doesn\'t like me that day?
Or what if my dog gets busy downstairs and chews up everything?
No system is foolproof.

i think we need to wait to see what pvp, pk and thieving rules are set in stone before we just start guessing about this kind of stuff. makes it pointless when we throw ideas around and say one is more valid than the next. for all we know we can kill anyone we want to anywhere we please with a giant pink dragon raining down sulfur and lollipops. But back to OT i think that if someone can steal some hard earned loot from MY cart, or my inventory, there should at least be an option to tear that bugger limb from limb. What fun is it where a thief is protected by law to not attack in town or in non PK, PVP places. There should be an options that if someone steals soemthing from you and you notice or are aware of it, you can challenge him to a duel that he cannot back out of. if he has enough agility and he is a skilled thief, then he can run away from the fight w/ out a scratch.

well actually it was said that we\'ll be able to kill people in duels, guildwars and free pvp zones.
And we know we can\'t kill people with a giant pink dragon, as like it was said: there won\'t be dragons in Planeshift... :]

Should the carts have secret compartments? What should be in them? Explain.
Should there be decoy carts, to trick a guild enemy to attack the fake merchants (actually warriors wearing merchant clothing)? Explain.
Should the carts have the ability to explode? Explain.
That\'s enough questions for now. Applaud my pathetic attempt at sounding like a textbook... Or walk away in disgust.

I think it would be cool to have mobile shops that people could pull around and bring near dungeons if they are strong enough to defend themselves from nearby creatures. They could jack up their prices so they would make a tidy profit since no one would want to run back to town for a potion.
As for jackable carts-I think they should only be jackable when the player is in game. It is ridiculous to have to store your cart somewhere, what if you can\'t afford a house? It wouldn\'t make the game more fun, it is like saying you should be able to be pickpocketed why you are offline. Just causes grief, wheres the skill in stealing an abandond cart?
-
So where does a player go exactly when they log off?
When one logs off are they open to attack? Does a empty shell stand there taking up space?
Logically a cart, or a pet, or a horse, or what ever is an extension of the player and would go where ever the character goes upon log off.
-
The characters Body dissipates into tiny particles and floats high above the city where it cannot bother people, the sould remains where the player was, savoing the location
-
Just make a cart similar to any other piece of equipment: If you log out, the cart logs out together with you :)
-
To those of you who think carts should be able to be stolen from/flat-out hijacked:
What if the server doesn\'t like me that day?
What if my computer doesn\'t like me that day?
What if reality doesn\'t like me that day?
What then? It\'s hardly fair.
