Title: gods
Post by: Toadhead on March 10, 2004, 09:15:44 pm
What about if when you reached level 100 (or another level)  you\'ll automaticly transform into an \"god\"?

As god your able to fly or somthing :P
if you don\'t like god than an angel or somthing, whatever.

But what about it? You\'ll be an \"planeshift god\' when you reach lvl 100, when you login you\'ll see 5 players only and 2 gods online or somtihng, I duno, just an suggestrion :P

There are no levels in planeshift.

that is the blandest most uninspired idea ever. there are no levels, you shouldnt turn into a god simply because you have stats, and this idea has been doen SO many times. why would you want to become a god after 100 anyways? who would be dumb and boring enough to keep playing after maxing out in the first place? horrible idea. You should only be confronted by the gods after doing certain things and becoming very famous in the planeshift world

Well....I already am a god...so I\'d be what....Uber-God?

But I don\'t like the idea....even if there were levels what would happen when 50 people made it that far....50 Gods?

No thank you.

You want player-gods? Just look at Aendar, you want more people like that? ;) j/k

If you have a Hyper-Level other player (with more low levels) can make you a Tribe Elder (if the other player want to, for sure) or something like that, you now, the strongest usually is the boss. This way you could see in the game diferents group of player making the war with the other group for gain xp, populality and for sure, the others groups tresoures.

ummm, I think this was talking a  lot in the past, but I not know because I\'m newbei here

Post by: Draklar on March 10, 2004, 11:08:45 pm
there are already groups that gonna fight with each other... they\'re called \'guilds\'...

Yes lets all just magically transform into gods at level 100! Wait we dont have levels...why would anyone even want to be a \"god\" as you describe it? Where\'s the fun? Woohoo im a god I think ill go fly around a bit...ok that was cool, now what? Toadhead please think about what your saying.

ummm, maeby I dont tell it well. I want to say what a group of person can make a Tribe, they can start with a poor campament in the woods, and make more and more rich, and then build a Fort or a Castle, and around the castle other players can make houses and then that Tribe Elder can see hilmself like a very very rich King, and they pals generals of a new Kingdom.

I had a slightly similar conversation with Venge recently.. Let\'s see if I can dig it out from my log library.

Here it is:

[00:00:00] Blablablasomething before...............
[00:15:30] [Grrrrrrrrono^zzz] And you\'re not planning on adding any other gods?
[00:15:38] [Vengeance] nope
[00:16:23] [Grrrrrrrrono^zzz] Of course... I should\'ve thought of that. As usual, you people work 100% against my plans and ideas. Hmmm...
[00:20:00] blablablasomething after...................

So that clearly shows there will be no other gods than the ones already in the game (Talad & Laanx). Too bad. :)

(Oh no! I forgot asking about semi-gods!)

didn\'t even know there already gods... :)

But what about \"elites\" than...ofcourse you could say your an elite becuase you have high stats..but what if you get something extra\'s? Ok, there no levels but it was just an axample..don\'t take everything 100% as I say it but think about \"transforming after you have reached something\", like if you killed 1000 creatures or somtihng :)

That\'s a bad idea...
as in... it makes no sense...

Toadhead, think about your ideas well before you post them. Keep in mind that this game is an MMORPG and you cant \'finish\' the game. Think about your ideas and their consequences and you might be able to come up with better ideas to post here.
Oh, and read around a bit so you know what you\'re talking about.

You do get something for reaching high stats. Get a high skill in smithing and you will transform into a \"Good Smither\" :D  Na seriously, I dont think we should transform into anything for...like killing 1000 monsters or something. We are just normal (dwarven, elven, yllian etc.) beings living in the Planeshift World.

*pokes*
Power-levelers would be gods.
Idiots, therefore would be gods.
Tu es bete, methinks.

Now if the devs chose certain persons to roleplay gods/very high up people for plot purposes, the idea would have some merit.

er why do we even need more gods? i mean isnt however many we have now enough? if we needed another one we could always make aendar one he already seems to consider himself one anyway...yea this kinda a bad idea..

another thought is.. \"what would cause such a thing\" simply becoming good at something isn\'t going to pop you angel wings
Title:

Ha good point Serphet, I dont think Laanx or Talad would want to turn people into gods, assuming they are able, which brings up another question, how powerful are Laanx and Talad?

even if you would become a god the two major gods probably wouldnt like a new opponent seeing as they already have one so you would probably be blasted into oblivion six seconds after you would become a god

I dont think any player should become a \"god\" maybee through role playing they are a \"god\" , like me :), but that should be about it

Eek how I hate characters with \'the god complex\', usually its the only complex thing about the characters.

I think two gods are enough, we have the good (Talad) and the bad and ugly (Laanx).
Title:
Post by: dfryer on September 15, 2004, 08:23:07 pm
Roleplaying a god without the stats to back it up is actually roleplaying an insane character who thinks of themselves as deity.

I wouldn\'t make the blanket statement that Talad is good and that Laanx is bad and ugly - they are both supposed to be complex characters from what I understand of the background story.
Title:
Post by: Stydracos on September 16, 2004, 11:09:26 am
I would say roleplaying an insane character is a bit different to someone turning \'lvl 100\' or whatever and being made a god. I don\'t have a problem with a person roleplaying insanity, though I doubt I\'d see it successfully roleplayed (believable).

Ok I didn\'t add j/k after that last tongue in cheek comment.

However how is it a blanket comment? from what I\'ve read and there isn\'t much to go on... Talad while no doubt complex seems a little naive, a nice young god. He wants to share with Laanx, he feels badly over his mistake he shows compasion, and it seems he doesn\'t impose his will on his people (he reacts to laanx\'s temple but that is still reactionary).

Look at Laanx on the otherhand, changed in every respect female to male, beautiful to deformity, innocence to something other. Her/his/its deformity is more then skin deep though, it is changed... darker in nature, brooding and plotting. Once like Talad she/he/it now plots revenge and will take the people for itself.

I think if instead of simply reaching a certain level and suddenly transforming into a god, players should be able to grant praying spells to other players.

1. players can pray to you.

2. they cast the granted spells.

3. the spells they cast drain your mana and in exchange, you get 10% exp from the enemys they kill using these spells.

This way you are only a god in the sense that you are prayed to for help and it doesn,t matter what level you are.

Sounds like petitions for GMs to interfere. Kind of harsh and unfair, in my opinion. Why not summon your guild army and gang up on whoever it was that you want to get rid of so badly? At least that\'s already possible :)

I don\'t like the idea of player-super-beings at all, frankly, and I think \"praying\" is very bad idea/term in this instance.

Now...what WOULD be kinda neat and interesting, is if there was a way for spell chuckers to link there spells, or mana flow between each other for added power. However, I think something like that should be very rare, and difficult to accomplish, possibly even endangering the lives of the casters themselves for trying to control a large sustained amount of mana.

Perhaps this should only be granted at specific times, like during a GM run event or roleplay/quest sorta thing. Not necessarily kill the big foozle, but say something out of the ordinary happens, its big, and bad, could potentially throw off the balance of everything, and needs that extra \"oomph\" to get things back to normalcy. Such as...i dunno...repairing a hole in the big stalactite :P Something that should be an event, and a very rare occurence. Maybe once in a \"lifetime\" If ya know what I mean.  ...... and on thinking a little more, it should be an accident totally caused by players exploring too far, or digging too deep *cackle*

Another thought, is having the linking idea being something that happens between certain characters, depending on some variable x, that there is some kinda favorable \"mysterious\" connection between them, enabling them to link their mana flows, or share their pools, whatever. But there should be some sorta drawback or danger at the same time.

Basically, for any kind of extraordinary power, there should be a drawback. A chance of blowing yourself up, or drowning in your mana, going crazy, or if praying, drawing the attention of a darker source, and having misfortune fall upon you and your group instead of what you intended originally. There needs to be a refined balance in the way things are handled. Power comes with responsibility. Misuse of such power will bring disaster to all parties involved.

This is all speculation really.  Maybe my attempt to turn a bad idea into a different good idea, and failing miserably in the process *smirk*

edit:  And yes, I realize some of these ideas are probably a little cliche`. I\'m just trying to think outside the box really. Mebbe it didn\'t work so well hehe.

Hmmm... a roleplaying game + special uber rewards for NOT roleplaying... something doesn\'t add up...
