Title: Praying?
Post by: Elegrand on March 10, 2004, 09:48:20 pm
Maybe if you had lost some of your skills or something, then you can pray to Laanx or Talad to restore it. Also, at the beggining of the game you can be asked what is your beleif. Laanx will give some advantages, while Talad will give others. If you pray to Talad, then you can restore your strength or will power, while Laanx will regenerate your magic? What do you think?

yes unless you suffered from short term memory or you had a cuncussion or some amneisha in what way could you realistically suffer from skill loss? and who said laanx was better at magic than talad or talad was stronger? who says there will be any mana at all? praying is so overdone, the best it should do is give you a bit better luck in finding objects.

nah, praying of meditation should just be a form of faster health and mana regeneration

And what if your character is the type that refuses to pay homage to any deity? ;)

Praying shoudn\'t work all the time, too ;P

Ah I think prayer should do something, but not be a very big part of the game. We get a small bonus to healing and some other non-combat magic skills. Those who don\'t pray...dont get the bonus. Like I said It shouldn\'t be big, a faster rate of healing, using less mp for spells, that sort of thing.

i\'d like to see a system of praying diffrent from like paralyzing monsters and things like that maybe it could be used to heal you or junk along those lines...but i\'ll agree prayers is starting to be way to over used in games.

You can lose skills by getting sick, or by being heavily wounded.

Well actually losing skills is rather interesting. Maybe it could happen if you don\'t continue training that skill (That\'s how it happens in that place..RL)?

Man that would be stupid, you get a really high skill level in ranged combat, then you decide to take up long swords. So you train your long sword skill, and after a while you realise that you suck at ranged combat. I know it would be kinda realistic (not really) but I dont like this idea.

I agree - losing skills because you haven\'t used them for some time isn\'t my idea of fun. You should get to keep what you earn. Enough of the hunger for realism already. We\'re playing a game, right? Do we really want to make this as difficult as real life is already? :|

and that paralyze monster thing would be a rip-off from rune(putting this here so it wont get censored)scape.

or some other game if rune(putting this here so it wont get censored)scape ripped it off from some other game.

either way it would be a rip-off

*the god/desses used in this are for discussion ONLY...no disrespect to the diety or ANY that believe, revere, or other wise worship or honor these dieties was implied or intended. In fact I would expect the devs to rewrite, and/or rename the dieties other than real life. I simply wanted a frame of referrence that many could grasp easily.*

I like the idea of a warrior being able to \"self heal\"(amount HIGHLY dependant upon fame/faction with their god and their current rankings in some skill like sword/axe/faith *shrug* something to reward the faithful but NOT imballance the game by full healing a first ranked character) at a temple/altar of their god, if they have behaved IN character for their allignment/diety(that would have to be another stat like strength will etc). Actions would affect your standing with your god, and if you prayed for certain things (healing HP, curing a disease, restoring lost skills/xp/gear etc) then your god could \"take it into concideration.

The god\'s motives would be EASY to understand from a role play perspective, if you are SERVING them...and currently are hindered from continuing that service...it is in the god\'s best interest if you are not so hampered...but...if you haven\'t \"shown your god some love\" then why in the heck would he or she care what you want? Results of this system...players would act MORE in character with either their allignment OR their stated god.

I think that this diety decision should be LATER than character creation...those races that have a CHOSE in the matter should have to visit a temple and listen to the priest and either chose to be converted...or...deside respectfully that that path was not suited to them thank you...next temple...next sermon...next choice.

Why you ask? Easy...a new player can not be expected to know which diety will best suit the personality of the character they are dreaming up in character creation...even with the BEST player manual in the universe...the decision...much like in real life...is best suited to when you can make an INFORMED decision about the matter.

For instance...to use real life dieties. A player that was aiming at a character that was harsh, hateful, malicious and \"evil\" would not do well picking Quan Yin...the oriental goddess of compassion, love, and peace. That is unless the player is TRYING to start a war with the goddess of peace...then that MIGHT be role playable.

OR a player aiming at a well centered, reasoning, ORDERED, cerebral (brainy) mage would NOT be well suited to the Norse god of Loki the trickster.

I think if gods in game are written well enough that you could gain skills from picking a god, maybe lose other skills (IE chosing Loki should remove will and/or int, while picking Quan Yin would ADD those stats, and maybe add to healing or Calming spells), Picking Oden or Thor or Zues should add to strength, various combat skills and MAYBE add lightening to your weapons once you PROVE yourself worthy of such a boon.

Another option on god/faith selection during character selction would be a DETAILED profile on the faith/god in the character selection screens with a SERIOUS warning that diety can and WILL affect your game play and should be taken as seriously as race, and other choices.
Maybe a pop up box like the race selection with an image of the diety and a paragraph or three on the nature of the diety/ies of that faith and the \"typical\" follower (Ie Joe Shome is the god of death and decay...his usual followers are necromancers, shadowknights and others that \"play with\" death, disease or the dead. Not well suited to Holy Knights, clerics or other healers.)
Title: Priests
Post by: Necronomium on April 07, 2005, 07:50:32 pm
Maybe there should be more priestic skills for someone who wants to be priest, like enchanting, but thats already part of magic, but there could be a meter like devotion to gods, like you would have something like this

Talad: 15,78%
Laanx: -7,89%
that blue fire or what was that: -7,89%
, so when you would make sacrifices to gods like giving away trias or sacrificing health (just little effect) you could get your religion up for that god and other gods would get angrier for you. And if you would kill cults dedicated to Laanx other gods would like you more and Laanx would get more angrier, and then on certain point they would start to give bonuses to you or haunt you.. Like if you would be in favor of talad you could get more damage, but Laanx would send some servants to kill you.. very fun for dedicated priest :D..

What if praying to a deity and donating to the temple could grant favors like.........a helping hand through the land of death?  A guiding light perhaps?  A shortcut?  I don\'t believe that would unbalance the game too much, as it only gives a minor convenience.
