I am of the opinion that there ought to be certain objects that have no \'game-value\' whatsoever. In general, what I mean is \'props\' for roleplay purposes. Much like wax fruit on a stage. Now obviously there would not be a good deal of these kinds of items, but it would be nice to have them regardless.
One of these would be papers, letters, and some books. But of course they would have \'game-value\' to a minor degree. What I mean is that we should have papers and letters with actual writing in them.
Some writing could be stored on other sites (this could work for paintings too) if you wanted to conserve server space.
(As I said, images for paintings could be stored off-server, which could really solve that problem.)

so like your saying in books for instance there could be like legends or hints on were to find a new quest... yea that is a really good idea. now why didnt i think of that... ;(

Would you like the developers to focus first on the items with gameplay value or the items with no gameplay value? :-)

What Drak said. : P
Though I\'m sure documents wouldn\'t be too hard to implement...
(But than again, I\'m not a programmer so what do I know?)

Make books is easy, write it not. Try to write a good book, try...
The notes are diferent, put somethig like; Eleven foot to north, two to the south and the tresoure is yours.... and is done

Well I actually meant player-written.

Such as letter from one guild leader to another? For example, an emissary delivers an unopened letter (unbroken seal) to another guild leader. It contains confidential information. That letter could be obtained by ambushing the poor emissary... And the emissary could be executed by an enraged guild leader. More convenient to do this out of the game, but more RP-like and realistic when ingame.

I think Bard\'s and maybe a few other classes should be able to have a writing skill, where they can write books and stories that are sold to bookstores or something and people could buy them. If you write better books, people would be more willing to pay for them and you could make some money. Not to mention it would be cool to roleplay and have people asking, \"Have you read Teral\'s new book?\" actually referring to an in-game book. Certain books would surely be in everyone\'s collection.
This can be expanded upon as well, I am sure there would be many more benefits of writing in game books.

Yeeeeeeaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhh <--- sorry for the repetitive letters but this is probably a word more expressive than a full sentence :D
I want a library in-game where we can store our books of arcane knowledge :) Stories and spellbooks could be stored in the same library indeed :)
But even if that would work for book, i don\'t think a guild will send secret messages in-games and risk the messenger to be catch when there\'s so many sure ways to meet outgame. Same for those (not in this thread) who want a server without remote-tell. Players will just have an irc window open.

As I stated before, it would be more RP-like and realistic to use messages with messengers, instead of chatting out of the game. That\'s like telepathy. We as humans do not have such a skill.
Stories in books, arcane knowledge in books, encyclopedias, dictionaries, military manuals, other manuals (cooking)... So many types of books out there to use. Not to mention spy information on guilds. But why not post these things out of the game? It would be more convenient. Unless the character is somehow benefited by it, but that may or may not happen.
