Title: Icefalcon's Art
Post by: Icefalcon on March 16, 2004, 03:02:41 am
Well I\'m going to post my art/models here, feel free to comment and give me advice as I am no expert :)

Here is a dagger though it turned out more like a short sword...59 polygons, 113 edges, 57 Vertices...Dagger1 (http://upl.silentwhisper.net/uplfolders/upload0/Dagger1.zip)

...and this is a map of Hydlla I did a while ago. I should make a new one cause this one could be better...

I\'d consider that to be more of a shortsword, as the blade is too broad to be a dagger....overall really nice work. That\'s actually my idol of a shortsword. Now all ya gotta do is skin it ;) I think the map\'s fine as is...

Nah, I agree the map could be better. #6 is waaaaaay off. :)

As for the dagger, nice work. ^^

I like the map and the sword is nice and low poly (low end computer people like that)and pretty cool looking too  keep up the good workies

wow it still works lol faces + vertices = edges + 2 lol

nice work with the sword though. It dosnt have the crazy amounts of polys like some and has poly count of under 100.

it looks around 100 triangles which is ok too.

Here is my new and improved hilt, and now its only 51 polygons, 101 edges, and 52 vertices, and it looks a ton better :D

Lookin good! Keep up the good work.

Thx alot, I tried to keep it looking simple to keep the poly-count down, but I think it looks pretty good. I see all these weapons with like 600 polygons that could never be actually used in-game, I think this dagger could though.

Post by: Wedge on March 18, 2004, 10:47:46 pm
Yeah don\'t go around dissin other people\'s work so easily though.  A weapon without a texture can\'t be used in game either ;).

Oh and the handle should pry be evened out a bit if you can.

so nice yet so low poly, its good to see someone making  playable models, and ones that look nice are good 2, so long as its textured well I dont see why it wouldnt look great, after all Zelda 64\'s master sword wasnt that much more  detailed than that and it lokked uber groovy

What 3D program did you use to make that Dagger. Wings3D?? Blender??? ?(  Or some other..??
Title:
Post by: Icefalcon on March 19, 2004, 11:32:18 pm
Wings3D  :D  Unfortunately, I still havent figured out how to texture, sorry, I will add texture to it when I actually figure it out. *sigh*

If you can draw textures, I went and did a UV Map setup for it (and a pretty crummy texture).  Only thing is I don\'t know how to export it back into Wings and get the texture to show up.
Title:
Post by: Icefalcon on March 20, 2004, 12:40:46 am
Thats part of my problem...I can get a blank UV map for it, but then Im kinda stuck...
Title:
Post by: Thardin on March 20, 2004, 12:14:22 pm
I can help you there both. :)

First make sure you got the latest version of wings (0.98.20c stable atm).

\'Normal\' texturing in Wings3D:
Go to File -> import image and open your image. Make sure you got the materials set for your model.
Now, open the outliner. Window -> Outliner.
In the outliner window, click on your imported picture, then drag it over the correct material. A window will pop up, click diffuse. That\'s it!

UV-mapping in Wings3D (which is what you would want to do ;)):
When you finished your model, select the object. Right click and select UV mapping.
Select all the faces of the model in the AutoUV window. Right click (Segment by -> projection). Right click (Continue -> Projection).
Right click Create texture (in the AutoUV window). Check draw border edges and press OK.
Don\'t check Use face/vertex color on border edges, because there still is only one color on the model and you won\'t see the edges.
Now close this window and go back to the outliner window. Select tha latest (or only) diffuse picture (could be diffuse, diffuse2 and so on). Right click and export... it to a location.
Edit the exported picture any way you want and make sure you also use the edges to paint your texture on.
Now go back to Wings3D and import your image again (diffuseX.X).
Open the outliner window and select your image. Now drag it over the latest _auvX material (example: drag it over cube1_auv). Select diffuse from the pop up requester and your done!

As you see it is actually rather easy. Now have fun!

I quickly made this:

*runs off to make a cool texture*

OK, I have finally perfected my texture on my dagger, Im kinda a perfectionist when it comes to these things and I was working on this for days (not all day, but it took me days) to get it how I want, so here it is :D
Finished Dagger (http://upl.silentwhisper.net/uplfolders/upload1/Dagger3.png)

Post by: Moogie on March 27, 2004, 01:10:52 am
Hmm... I don\'t see a difference on the texture between the hilt and the blade? Is that purposeful?

If so, I think you should make it look more metallic, because the blade looks very rough and dull. It should be smooth and shiney! :) Ya? Or nae?
Title:
Post by: Icefalcon on March 27, 2004, 01:20:05 am
The hilt is supposed to be the same metal, and yes I agree that the blade tuned out kinda dark, but I like it that way. Its some kind of wierd dark metal. Who knows what kind of metals will be in PS...

...and another 3D model, a warhammer...I was just surfing the web when I found this image and decided to make a model like it...
Warhammer (http://upl.silentwhisper.net/uplfolders/upload1/Warhammer.png) and you can Download (http://upl.silentwhisper.net/uplfolders/upload1/War_Hammer2.zip) it here...

And yet another model I made. I got this idea from Startrek actually lol... This is about 3 1/2 feet in length, it requires 2 hands. It is used to slash away at your enemies. :]  Double Sided Sword thingy... (http://upl.silentwhisper.net/uplfolders/upload1/DoubleSidedSword1.png)  If anyone knows what this weapon is called...tell me, is a...double sided sword thingy :D

It\'s called a batlet or something (Don\'t know the spelling, it\'s probably alien). But I wouldn\'t call it that if you\'d ever want it to be in PS. ;)
Title:
Post by: Icefalcon on April 01, 2004, 08:45:24 pm
Yes it is called a batleth sword in Star Trek, I did some googling

Thats absoulutely lovely Icefalcon, I\'m squizzling at the High res one now and I\'m really impressed, its a very \"grand\" image and your use of the filters  and blending propertys is great from the glass on the reflection on the water to the swirl in the sky,

now for the annoying pedantic nitpicking  bit:P

1.the blending propertys (outer glow) on the wings radiate a slightly different blue to the one on the central body of the bird shape, dont forget you can apply the same blending options by right clicking on the layer (in the layers tab) with the properties you want and copying the layer style to the  other layer by right cliking on it in ITS layer tab and pasting it there. you can also just remember the colour number and re type it in the colour selector window of the outer glow or whatever.

2. the reflection in the water
when doing a depth adding thing to a picture like adding reflections first think of the properties of the thing, in this case it is a mirror, so where you have free transformed it down and to the right it should maybe go strieght down instead as it is (albeit pretty and distorted) a simple reflection. Were that to be a duplicate image on a floor for instance you would  expand the bottom of it out by once again using the \"free transform\" (ctrl T) tool but dragging the corners of the selection (hold ctrl to just drag one corner) out

beyond all that theres nothing to say but Lovely work, I am quite impressed at both he work itself and how well youve picked up photoshop and its sillynesses

Post by: Icefalcon on May 09, 2004, 05:38:40 pm
Wow, thanks for the positive feedback, but thanks more for the negative. Ill try to improve it.

I didn\'t know you could apply the same blending options to a different layer ;)  thanks for that Kintall.

With the reflection, are you saying it shouldn\'t uh, reflect to the right at all? just straight down?

I am also thinking of making a different horizon, maybe a faint blue glow?
Title:
Post by: Kintall on May 09, 2004, 07:03:30 pm
yup water reflections allways go streight down se figure below

as for the horizon,  blue sounds nice :)

Title:

Can you explain how you made Crystal Inferno? I really like that one, and I can\'t imagine what photoshop filters created that.
Title:
Post by: Icefalcon on August 18, 2004, 11:01:08 pm
Erm, with that, I kept duplicating layers and rotating them 90 degrees, setting the layer properties as \"lighten\" (In the blending options). To make the first layer, I just used gradients and difference clouds. That one took a while though, I ended up with like 20 layers... :P

Edit:

And what about the copywrights at the bottom right... do those actualy mean anything?

They are so nobody thinks I stole the images from someone else, and so nobody steals them from me. Of course, anyone with the most basic knowledge in graphic art could crop it...But, eh... It keeps the noobs from stealing \'em.
