Title: The BISM - Extra Information
Post by: Kiern on March 20, 2004, 07:11:23 pm
Hey everyone, it\'s been a while since I\'ve updated the public on what\'s going on with The BISM, and also actually gave some new information on The BISM itself...and now is as good of a time as any.

As always, remember that we are not a guild and anyone is welcome to join (if your in a guild, you may want to ask your leader, but that\'s between you and them) for other general information visit our site http://bism.tk and look around (the \"about\" page probably has what your looking for), because I\'m not covering the stuff on our site below...but just basically we are an organization that can be hired by anyone for practically any in-game reason and members take on only as much responsibility as they want (with more responsibility comes more money, but that\'s up to you).

First off, if you have any interest at all in being any type of rogue in-game, I\'ve posted about our Rogue Faction a couple of posts down, look for the one that has The Rouge Faction at the very top, with current structure/information that Sharaz has worked hard on...so be sure to check that out, all and more of which can be found on their website.

So, what\'s been going on with us?  The public and regular member part of the site has been pretty quiet, but we (meaning The Council and RMs) have been quite busy setting everything up in preparation for the next Planeshift release...things are still being worked out, but I think the main parts have been pretty much solved.

Thanks to Sharaz and lynx, the separate faction websites have been set up and are now just waiting to be filled with information, which will be provided by the faction leaders.

For those who do not know, there are two separate ranking systems in The BISM, one is the \"overall\" or \"official\" ranking, which does not effect your position in factions  (which I am currently working on), and then your \"faction\" ranking.  This has many benefits to those who understand how to use it (which, of course, we do ;) ), like it allows each faction to still function independently, but there is a system that still keeps us connected and one big organization.

Also, there will be a new page up on the main site sometime, most likely when CB is released (whenever that may be) as long as there are no problems (which there should not be).  It will be a \"Jobs\" page, where people who want to hire us, fill out this simple form...and it\'s sent off where we can decide to contact you with more information, or to accept, or whatever...it will make things really easy for you potential customers out there..and everyone loves things that are easy :)

Ah..so much to cover but this is getting too long already, if you have any questions I\'m more then happy to answer them.

Really, there is nothing to lose by joining, don\'t want to do something?  Then don\'t do it, but what counts is the opportunity is there when it normally would not be if you were not a member.

EDIT: edited to fix some errors and say the rogue part is up.

Sorry for my curiosity but I\'m wondering something about the bism for a long time. Why don\'t you call yourself a guild?
* To accept members who are already in a guild? This is decided by guild leaders and the name of the organization won\'t change much in their decisions.
* Because you say you don\'t force people to be active? This isn\'t against the rules of a guild - the leader of the guild decide what activity is required.
* Other reason? I\'d be glad to listen at it.

I don\'t think i need to wish you good luck - you no longer need luck, maybe only a good continuation :)

Great question elscouta, there are many reasons for this and I\'ll try and put as many I can think of off the top of my head, if it doesn\'t answer your question I can always go more indepth.

1.  My initial reason was there are many things that are expected of a guild, and I did not want The BISM to be bound by any expectations...it makes what we do easier, we will continue to shift and change to what is best....if we were just like The Mercenary Guild and only did mercenary work, then that would be fine, because you have set guidelines, etc. already.

2.  It gives people the freedom so that they really don\'t have to commit to anything unless they really want to, if you join a guild rarely do they want you anywhere, they want you to be there and be loyal, but The BISM allows you to do what you want...and I personally think that raises the quality of members who are willing to take on the responsibility.

3.  Individual members can\'t really be targeted if someone were to get mad at The BISM besides me and the rest of The Council, and most of us belong to another guild...therefore no guild wars will get in the way of our productivity and The BISM as a whole will not take sides.

4.  Member disagreements, fights, none of it will really happen...don\'t like it?  Don\'t do it.  Don\'t like someone?  Don\'t associate with them.

5.  And of course, we get members we otherwise would not be able to...such as Xordan, lynx, and many others who have helped out A LOT in the past/present.

As I said, asking questions is great, it actually helps me a lot when people do.

The Rogue Faction
Leader: Sharaz
Second in Command: Xordan

This is taken from The Rogues website, all written by Sharaz, I just cut it down to the basics.

Unlike most other factions, such as The Mercenaries and The Merchants, the role of The Rogues is not solidly described. Instead, The Rogues can be counted upon to perform almost any task that requires one or more of the following skills: Stealing, assassination or spying. In other words, stealth.

The ranking system within the Rogues is very different from most guilds or factions. This is because most rogues don\'t like any extra amount of responsibility, they expect to be given jobs based on what they can do and be free to do what they want the rest of the time. Most of them also have little need for power or fame, since they only complicate the stealthy nature of their lives. The ranking system within the Rogues is based on this frame of mind.

First of all, the Rogues\' ranks are divided into two parts, the Inner Circle (from now on referred to as IC) and the Outer Circle (from now on referred to as OC).

The Outer Circle

The OC is not about ranks, but about attaining certain abilities to gain access to a larger amount of jobs. The mastery of these abilities, Spying, Stealing and Assassination, can be proven by passing a number of tests.

When people first join, the become a `hood\' in the OC, after that, their title is based on the tests they\'ve passed.

Hood (No tests passed)
Thief (Test of Thievery)
Spy (Test of Spying)
Assassin (Test of Assassination)
Assassin-Thief (Both the test of Assassination and Thievery)
Assassin-Spy (Both the test of Assassination and Spying)
Spy-Thief (Both the test of Spying and Thievery)
Rogue Master (All tests)

The way this ranking system works is that all jobs have some skills that are required to complete it successfully. So very simple jobs can be done by everyone, whereas jobs that require Assassination and Spying will only be available to an Assassin-Spy or a Rogue. I will explain the way these requirements are determined later in this document.

As some of you may have noticed, seems to be no clear difference in power or responsibility, based on the rank in the OC. Well, that\'s because there isn\'t. As a Rogue you can spend your whole life in the OC, just doing jobs and maybe pass some tests, without having any responsibilities, which is exactly how most Rogues want to live.

The Inner Circle

Of course, even within the Rogues there are those with a taste for power and a feeling of responsibility. It is for these persons that the Inner Circle exists. Membership of the IC is attainable by all Rogue members, both public and secret, but there are a small number of rules that have to be followed to enter the IC:

1. Membership of the IC is only available to Rogue Masters.
2. A Rogue has to pass in interview with an IC member on why he/she wants to join.
3. A Rogue will have to swear to uphold the rules of the IC. (Which I will write down fully some day ;) )

The Inner Circle Elders

Rogue Leader
Master of Admissions
Master of Jobs
-----------------------

There is a lot more on the website...Sharaz is currently really busy or else I\'d have him come post everything, but I\'ll answer questions as best as I can if needed on this subject.

Remember there are 4 other factions openly recruiting and 2 others besides that...be sure to check them all out.  Factions are chosen on the sign-up form if you were wondering.
