Title: Lag problem
Post by: vector212 on March 25, 2004, 04:10:48 am
I hate to sound all whiny any everything... but I find the game to be so choppy most of the time it becomes impossable to play. I would literally push the left or right arrow to turn... and it would take about 10-25 seconds for anything to happen. Is there anyway to reduce the lag or get it to all work better?

I\'m using a 1.6 gig, 256 RAM, and 64 meg video card for my PC config... using ADSL too...

your not the only one experncing lag, i had huge problems too, it didnt take as long as you to respond, but when it did, it moved too far, i just tapped it and it does nearly 180 degree turn. i dont no what to do to get rid of it though, the server might be far away, but that shoudlnt change it that much, since in other games i dont have that much lag, even though the server is on the other side of the world.

The game is still pre-alpha guys. This means it takes up lots of ram. 256mb isn\'t enough to run well in this version. The next version might run better on it though. As some general advice, get some more ram. All games need 512mb to run smooth these days. :)

The Important posts on the top of the board are meant to be read before asking questions that have been asked over and over again.

If anyones going to get more ram instead of getting one 3200 stick of 256 for example its better to get two sticks of 3200 128mb as it runs faster cos you end up with more bandwidth in with the ram.

Wow, pre-alpha? I thought it was a lot further than that. It\'s a VERY promising start for a pre-alpha then. Well I guess your probably right about the ram thing. Sadly I use a laptop and upgrades are very difficult and expensive. Well I guess I\'ll have to wait for the later versions.

Don\'t feel bad I have 1 gig ram and I lag (glitch is more or less what it looks like) bad enough I can\'t play on this game. And this is comeing from someone who doesnt have to turn much off in EQ guild raids or bazaar (laggiest times in EQ). Thinking bout snagging hubbies new geforce 4 and seeing if I can play that way. I am very sad I cant play , this has very good graphics for the stage its in. Now all I got to do is figure out how to get it to run so its playable.

Kinda off topic but how much would 256mb of RAM cost in US funds? I haven\'t been having too many problems with games but ocasionally my comp is using all the RAM and runs really slow...

Software mode seems to be less laggy. FPS is crappy, but more constant than in OpenGL mode.

i have a major problem with OpenGL where all light sources shine through all 3d objects.  i get it on UT, i get it on counter-strike, i get it on animations rendered in 3d, and i get it on here.

i have the most recent driver, but i have had this problem for over 2 years now, anyone have any idea how to fix it? o_O

Then:
1. You don\'t have a 3D accelerator
2. You don\'t have any drivers for 1

Uh.. I think you didn\'t understand me. OpenGL IS much faster for me, but when it goes loading it stops for seconds until it shows the next frame. It doesn\'t happen that much in software.
