Title: Swimming and martial arts
Post by: ShadowFish on April 02, 2004, 03:26:36 am
i was thinking and just thought wwhile you are swimming will there be monsters or will it just be an escape because no monsters in the water?... their aree plenty of things in the water.... frogs reptiles, snakes, sharks....FISH, whalesthen how would you fight them... oh and besides the thing bout escaping when nolthirirs are in battle can they use water magic to make pools of water to swim in.... then they could have an advantage in the battles well i guess that would be unfair.... also would nolthirirs have a different style of fighting being at the bottom in the water that far away form most of the people shouldnt they have their own style of fighting and magic.... wouldnt diffeerent races develop different magics and fighting styles and equipment

Also shouldnt there be at least one other amphibious water dwelling character?

And finally for the martial arts schools will there be combos and different abilities like kicks and punches and different attack combonations...What happens when they snap bones...i guess same rules apply to swords and other weapons....so ignore that

I would imagine that you couldn\'t do anything if you were attacked in the water. You would just have to swim away...and hope your swimming skill is high enough to escape the attacker.

hm... i would say that it would be good to be able to attack/get attacked in and under water, tough due to the higher density of water when looking at air, it would decrease you attack speed and dmg. As for magic like firespells, these shouldn\'t be able to be casted under water. you know what happens when water meets fire:D

yah and even if you try to use water under water all you get is water which really doesnt help but what about making water on land

it could be used so that you could swim around or drown an opponent...

if you get stabbed underwater youre still gonna die the only things affected are gonna be things you have to swing like axes or your fist

i just thought of something

martial arts is gonna have to do with speed and strength

some of the races will go faster than otheers.... some can jump higher.... can something run fast enough to run on the walls and different jumps to avoid things

i would find it nice to see if martial arts is able to combine with weapons. a friend of mine is learning martial arts and he for instance is learning how to use staves, shurikens and small swords.
I was thinking then that each martial-way would give advantages and devantages to weapons. like a art that gives advantage on close-range combat(short swords/fists) one for medium (staves, spears, halbards) and one for distance (shurikens, crossbows, javelins)
this is just an idea, but i have seen it in other games. tough none of them was online-playable.

yah that would be nice

actually i think weapons should all be one schoool of it and the other ones maybe concentrate on something else but think if you were running from a monster and came to a dead end you could run up the wall flip and cut it in half

Maybe its just me, but when i saw the weird flying guy it reminded me of a Zora from Zelda so i thought whoa it should be able to swim and attack underwater really fast.

It\'s not just you.  :P

Swimming will be possible for all races, but some will be better suited for greater depths - Klyros being one of them. Did you read their description on the Races page? :)

Quote
Thanks to their body structure, the Klyros are fast in all three elements: air, water and earth.

They have a talent for fishing deep-water fishes and small underwater monsters that are used to create very peculiar Klyros\' garments and light armors.

(implemented in future releases) Nightvision. Fly for short time. Breath underwater.

If they can hunt in deep waters, it follows that they\'ll be able to attack.

you know when it says fishing i usualy assume it means with a rod maybe you should fix that too, and what about an underwater and/or sky village place?

Anyone can have a talent at fishing with a rod ;) I think it\'s more understandable when you take into consideration the \"small underwater monsters\" part. A sky village makes no sense - you can\'t have an entire foundation for a city/town floating in the air. And besides, Klyros don\'t have full flight - they\'ll just have \"extended gliding.\" Underwater villages are bound to happen, particularly for the Nolthrir race.

Quote
After many centuries, the great amount of time spent working underwater and the unique altering properties of the Crystal have made the Nolthrirs an amphibious race, with webbed fingers and both gilled and pulmonary respiration.

Wait so you are saying that mystical powers make sence when a foundation for a town in the sky does not? put some legend behind it like maybe some really strong wizard decided to punish a town by sending it into the sky of something?

There is a limit to things you can explain by \"mystical powers.\" Besides, I already mentioned that Klyros will not have full flight, so getting to your city-in-the-sky may be a problem.

Do you have any idea how much power would be necessary to make an entire town float?

what about a mid-evil god did it? and whatever happened to a stair case in the sky? or a teleporter?

Medieval god? Have you read any of the PlaneShift setting? For some reason that phrase hints at a \'no\' for an answer.. ;)

Again, I agree that a city floating in mid-air would be a cool idea, but unless it has a super-awesome-wow-yet-realistic explanation (beyond \"some magic happened and...\") I just don\'t see it happening, personally.

fine ill make a super fantastic story to explain it.... ahem

a long time ago there was a world wraped around this ours like a big present exept there were people on top living and thriving. except there was an evil king who would asign random endles tasks to unfortunate people. one of these tasks was rock turner over who had to turn every rock in the world over, the poor boy named phil did this for many years until he was 32.. no 34 and turned over a rock only to find a big shiny red button. being a mid-evil  era civilization everything was of course covered in mud, that was jims job. so phil pressed the button and BOOM! the world explodes except for one village that had a really unnecisarilly big wall (which was franks doings) so it survived the big explosion. the people used the stone that was left from the really really big wall to build a stair case down to earth and founded the first town there.

Unfortunately you can\'t \"suggest\" elements of the setting on the Wishlist. All background stories and explanations are controlled by the PlaneShift Settings team, and stories that are already posted and made known to the public have absolutely zero chance of being used.

Moreover, please go read the main website before suggesting anything relating to the world.

*edit* ... I can\'t help it. Did you seriously think that story would work? :P
