Gimp, Gimp, Gimp...I hate it but it works...http://www.gimp.org/
-
wow, someone wo isnt just getting an illegal copy of photoshop, thats quite admirable, with everything like Kazaa out there its good to see someone resisting temptation
-
GIMP rules!!!! :]
-
well gimp may be good, but well photoshop is the one program that rules them all in a sense, its just yeah, the best most powerfull and so on. its a real shame that the only way to get a copy short of paying the silly amounts of money is to get an unauthorised illegal copy from kazaa...
-
Gimp2 is almost the same as photoshop 7. The only problem I had with gimp2 under windows is that I had to adjust the windowsXP dll search order in the registry, but that\'s a minor fix.
-
*kazaa is illegal!!!!*
i\'ll try gimp i guess.
-
I should try GIMP too, I really need a better program than MS Paint.
-
gimp2 iiiiiss grrreeeeeaaaaattt!!!! :]
for those poor win* using souls a fellow lands-man of mine made a port (also the 2.x version!): http://www2.arnes.si/~sopjsimo/gimp/stable.html
(you need both packages in case you can\'t read)
gimp2 rules!!! :D ...can\'t wait for gimp3 (it\'s gonna be a long wait ...but i\'m sure it\'ll be great!! :3)

Sweetness! :D
If you intend to stay legal, and want an app that works and has many of ps\'s functions, go GIMP. ;)

...and many other functions, plugins and scripts ...if you\'re a bit python-savvy, you\'ll soon get the hang out of python-fu (one of the gimp scripting/plugin languages) and put it in very good use ...or, you could just look for the script-fu and python-fu plugins on the GIMP homepage or search a bit around for them ;)
official homepage: http://www.gimp.org
GIMP User Group: http://gug.sunsite.dk/
...and some nice examples what you can do with GIMP:

(be sure to check how much time these guys are using GIMP ...just so you know it\'s not hard)
..you see guys ...not having (money for) photoshop is not an excuse not to try to CG :D

Or....you could be taking a computer graphics course, be cool with the instructor, and get hooked up with a copy of Photoshop CS :D

Or you could find PS7 at a yard sale for $15 like I did :D :D :D

It\'s great to see that some won\'t do piracy. GIMP is great, the new GIMP2 is very, very good and can do most of the things photoshop can do. But GIMP2 isn\'t a free photoshop, its a different program and as such you have to learn to use gimp just as you would have to learn photoshop. There are some good books out there, most are outdated, but still fairly good. The best I\'ve read is \"Grokking the gimp\" which is freely avalable here: http://gimp-savvy.com/BOOK/
GIMP is one good example of how open source software can replace expensive commercial software, go team!

*mutters curses under his breath* lucky!! :D
You could always just download the tryout version of photoshop and then wwhen the 30 day free-trial is over uninstall it then re-install it just keep the original setup :)

GIMP2 r0x!
There are some things that are better in photoshop. PS knowledge will help you a lot in learning GIMP actualy. The UI could be better tought. And making new brushes could be made easyer(maybe im doing something comleatly wrong). But its not worth to by Photosho if you can use GIMP! I miss the filter galery a lot tought... :(
Some faetures are even better than in Photoshop and plug-ins rock too.
USE GIMP2!
