Title: Illegal Items
Post by: DepthBlade on April 12, 2004, 12:13:09 am
Ok I know this is probally a long shot from ever happening but I still think its a good idea and maybe you will to :D

There should be illegal items put in-game to make PS go in a frenzy, these items would be illegal to carry  in certain villages and cities! If caught in sight by a NPC or town guard you can be seized and have to go to battle against the attacking security if you lose, bye bye you go to jail until you have worked off your crimes or released by a Human player!

The illegal items should be very valuable in quests and in battle but so illegal that you would have to choose carefully how you travel avoiding certain villages and cities that denounce these items!

Somewhat related but it doesn\'t say anything about illegal items :)

seems nice.... especially when you are a dark-sider like chaotic -something or something-evil.

If possible, most illegal items very good and somewhat cheap.  Obviously, this is because the people just want to get rid of it.  Also, it should be only accessable through the black market.  I\'m not talking pathetic Runescape guards who can be killed easily.  I\'m talking tough, burly guards you want to avoid and not mess with.

Maybe theft could be integrated into Planeshift also.  If you steal something in close proximity to a guard, he blows his horn and chases you. :p

Runescape <-- lol funny

Yes I agree guards that just won\'t get their butts kicked, guards that will knock a round into you making you run for your life :D

if its sold by the black market the price might be high but maybe for a normal guy who doesnt really want trouble will sell it for very little....that would be great to be able to walk into town and automatically get into fights because your item is illegal...wait will you be able to kill them? and how strong are these going to be? they would either have to be too strong or really offending..... then when the guards defeaet you they can throw you into jail....

If it\'s hidden (i.e. in a backpack or other container), the NPCs shouldn\'t be able to tell what it is.  On the other hand if you\'re stupid and you take out that greek fire and pour it on the street, the guards are going to notice.  And I agree; in two months of playing the-game-that-shall-not-be-named, i could kill the guards in one hit.

Let\'s make these guards equivalent to level eighty characters with top notch gear and make it so that they travel in patrol groups of 3-5.  :D

As far as prices go; they will be EXTREMELY high, simply because it is illegal.  There\'s a lot of risk being involved in producing, smuggling, and even selling the items.  Maybe we could implement a reward system for players assisting the NPCs in finding dealerships for these items.

Help take a bite out o\' crime -- ARR!

you mean just give the guards a lot of skill in weapons and fighting?

normal npcs that may have found them lying around probably wouldnt want them.... maybe there should be npcs that walk around and randomly plpace them in a persons bag...but that would be rare

No these items should be so valuable and rare that people are GOING to pick them up and avoid the trouble just to make a profit off it or use it in some sort of quest! I think it needs to be taken to the extreme!

dont like seeing people smuggling to much dwarfen-ale. All those drunken people in the streets.... i think i\'ll pass

I think their should deffinitely be drugs, legal (alchol and maybe snuff powder or something). And also illegal drugs, there should be a large blackmarket for artifacts, stolen art, drugs, and even slaves. This market should be highly profitable but also incredibly dangerous and cuthroat.

Also items like thieves\' tools, lockpicks, potions of invisibility...basically anything that would obviously be used for theft...

Maybe if we have illegal drugs in the game, there can be an addiction factor, so that if a character gets addicted to a certain illegal substance, he HAS to have within a certain amount of time or else he suffers penalties. There could also be in-game rehab clinics.

Id love to have these items! This also brings up the black market again. I think one or two citys should have a black market at night that sell illegal stuff (but not rare ones)

I think all large cities should have a black-market but they also have check points that check people\'s backpacks (maybe you have to go through a secret underground passage that is littered with mass amounts of danger to get out/in town),

I would also like to see a system that showed how respected you are in the underworld for all the odd jobs you\'ve done, and the police (basically if you get caught a lot, the police will be less friendly to you, or if you help the police in raids against the dealers they may attack you if you try to go into one of their hideouts). this way if you help one side, you lose touch with the other.

Illegal items would be interesting, as would the profession that goes hand in hand... smuggling.

Not every item considered illegal has to be dark in nature either, you may have some towns where say a certain food or beverage goes against the cities beliefs and is therefore banned.

It would be interesting to see magic banned in some areas as well, and anything magical (items, potions etc) be considered illegal.

or if your a wizard of white robes(good magics) and you walk into a evil god worshiping town you get arrested

I like very much the idea of Addictions, since in real life there are so many of them.
Also, some items could be legal in one region and illegal in others, like marijuana is legal in Holland.

What about an illegal drug introduced to Yliakum. Something that is frowned upon by the general population, but a chance for evil to make a little money, illegally. Maybe a certain herb or powder, that you can eat. it alters the way you walk, talk, see things... maybe even a potion. something that say, makes your strenth grow, but agility and endurance drop. something stat altering as well as imparing the charactor. it can be introduced as something not welcomed in the land, but people still push it to make trias. maybe something thats hard to come across. just a thought.

There was an rp involving that... my character still has some.

again im talking drugs that do real affects. not rp wise. rp wise i could have a crackhouse open up right next to kada's. its very hard to make money off of a rp product. and that rp drug would have different effects on everyone, however they want it to affect them. but what if there was a drug that brought your strength up, dropped your intellegence and agility, flipped your controls around, and reversed the colors you saw... oooo and you saw wrong names on people. that drug as said before could be very hard to get, but you could get an unlimited amount.... you know that would sell like crack!

You guys are going overbourd. You forget, Planeshift is a medieval type world, and basicly ll thy'd have is herbs and mushrooms that people don't even know have these effects. I don't belive anyone would know what a drug is. The most someone selling them would be some wackjob who decided to try them, nd even then not too many people would go for it since they have no idea what a drug is. I'm done rantig now (:

are you serious? lol

ahem......

marijuana
opium
Angel trumpets
shrooms
tobacco
alcohol

all drugs used.... since way before midevil times... and recognized as, maybe not he word exatcly, but drugs.

as far as planeshift world. all it would take is one person to feel the effects. and they tell one person, then they tell one person, and so on and so on. and you say not to many poeple would go for it? people dont do drugs because its labeled a drug. people do drugs for the effects, the feelings, the alteration of reality at the most. because noone knows what "drugs" are, would they really not do a substance that makes them feel better? of couse they would, its called alcohol =)
