Title: secrets
Post by: ShadowFish on April 13, 2004, 03:03:07 am
the game is going to be continuously updated so i thought it would be cool if some of the updates were kept secret until found by players....this way people can make discoveries on their own and spread the news....this way people wont get bored and there could always be new challenges and keeps it exciting...plus it can be done with almost everything...new materials...new magic, new skills new areas

Personally I\'m not too fond of this idea.

Sure, maybe for minor things - new quests, legendary items, etc, but, I mean, nothing as expansive as a new area.  But for most things, I\'m kind of fond of when devs say \'Yeah, it\'s in there.  Figure it out on your own.\'  I just dont like the \'We\'re not gonna tell you!\' approach.

A update that fixes a crash in the client..

\"Go find it!\" :P

i didnt mean every single little detail...just areas, magic, and items and anything extra that isnt really important but just fun...and yes area...these arent things we are going to need just things so that people can actually explore and find something on their own....maybe they should at least tell us there was an update but id rather be surprised....

anyway it is much more realistic, especially for areas and items

Il agree that this would be good for things like items and stuff... but i would prefer the glitch fixes to be told....

But if you think about it... say they give us a new area.... that agrea has a huge glitch that could be exploited... If they dont tell of the area than someone could use that glitch to gain $$ or something...

i agree.

It is a great idea if the devs dont tell us about new items or areas, but bug fixes etc should always be told so we know what of the excisting game has been altered.

I like the idea that I could be going through a cave that I have been through many times and discovering that a rockslide has revealed a new tunnel.  Major game changes that effect everyone should be announced, but there is a certain element of exploration if the dev\'s keep quiet about some things.
For example, I can remember playing Wolfenstien 3d for hours after I finished it, just looking for all the secret areas.

yah of course they would have to tell us if there were fixes to glitches...but like slabertooch said id like walking around in a cave a million times and still discover new things...maybe get lost alot but either way at least it will be something new to see....

eventually everyone will find it....especially if the player exploiting the glitch sells the items there or walks in and out constantly...

Then they wouldn\'t release that area until it was completely stable and debugged. But yeah, the Devs shouldn\'t tell us everything, the Explorers Guild has to have something to do ;)

yeah, otherwise there would be no such thing as an explorer and the devs would have to make up excuses about how the place was discovered by an npc......
