Hello people of Planeshift! Me and my friend, Zeus (you all know Zeus right?) have decided to help the poor, by giving them an opportunity to get rich in no-time.
\"Knomder and Zeus\" is a betting organization that focuses on leading controlled duels. To make things easy for all parts, we have decided to use a balance system for the betting. This means that the total amount of money placed on each player must be equal. This means that one player can bet a 100 on a fighter while two players can bet 50 each on the other.
As the organization leading the betting we take our share which is 10% of all bets.
Even the fighters deserve their share, which consists of 5%.
So why would you want to place your bettings through us? Because we make sure that the winner receives his money! We also give you the opportunity to challenge someone without having to organize a fight by yourself.
Rules: A fight is between 2 individuals ONLY! Any person breaking this rule is to be hunted down and killed.
The fight lasts until a fighter gets killed or declares forfait. If a fighter leaves the fighting pit he is declared loser of the fight.
SystemThe bets are sent to either me or my associate using the buddy system. We note down how much you\'ve sent us and make sure you get your share if you win.
-
Zeus? as in the oldbie guy? ?(
anyway, the buddy way of giving stuff is only for MB I suppose...
-
Yes, Zeus as in the oldbie guy :P
If there is no buddy give command, there will be an alternative for sure.
-
Nice idea. Recently i placed a topic in general discussion about organizing contests of multiple players with one winner. Maybe you guys could organize that as well and earn money through entering fees and or bets.
-
well we actually plan to organize a \"Last Man Standing\" once in a while, where any person who wants to join has to pay an entry fee. Everybody fight and the last man standing gets the sum of the entry fee\'s paid. Betting while still be available for specators using the normal system.
Thanx a lot for your tip Ionas! ;)
(try reading Redmonk backwards) :D
Can\'t believe I blew my cover on the second post hehe
-
You should offer larger purses for the fighters. Otherwise you won\'t get the best fighters and you won\'t draw a big crowd. Fighters can still organize their own betting on the side - even thrown matches if they are clever enough. But at 5% will any of the best fighter bother to use your service when they can set up their own. I realise that you promise to run the whole match, even hunt down and kill rule breakers but still, only 5%?
-
Hmm...will (battle)mages be able to go into the fray?
-
I get your point but the money\'s gotta go somewhere. We could give them a greater share but that would discourage people from betting...since the odds will be bad. The idea is that many fights shall be between to enemies. We want to take fights that are destined to be and present them to you in the fighting pit. A fighter then not only gets to fight his enemy, he gets a small amount of money(even if \"only\" 5%) and the fight becomes a duel for honor.
The 5% for fighters is just the share given to a new fighter. The more you fight the more you get. It almost becomes a proffesion. When a veteran fighter (someone thats fought alot) fights the odds aren\'t as good for the gamblers. This is compensated by the fact that there is info about a veteran. If you have seen him fight before you know how good he is and this gives you a greater chance to bet on the right guy.
Thats it for now...
thanx maxximus

Yes, we plan to allow all classes and races. You\'ll find no discrimination here :P
-
mmm bets go to the organizers? I would feel safer giving a bet to a GM , or some sort of official events team especially if I am putting up a big ammount! For all we know this could be a one time scam a big big scam, I\'ve seen it happen before and its a good way to get some m00la! Maybe I am just a little paranoid but in this game I will not rule out that chance!
-
It\'s completely normal that you feel that way. I would be afraid to leave a big some of money to anyone that I dont know very well. But as you might know, Zeus is a well known member of the OI (a respected guild) and I\'ve been working hard on creating a new guild lately. I would never risk all this just to obtain cash, and I doubt that anyone in my position would act differently. Anyway, there is no way for me to prove to you that this is an honest business. I can recommend that you only gamble with smaller sums if you\'re doubtful. Take the time to get to know us :)
I really don\'t think that involving the GM\'s is a good thing to do. The people of PS should be independent and know better than disturbing the GM\'s all the time. I am sure that there will come up more merchants and entertainers with time, and then all will depend on trust. We might as well start today!
cheers!
-
Heh people do some pretty desperate stuff for money somtimes, but I will probally just start off with small bets and make my way up!

Yeah, ok. I didn\'t think about it very much, I understand your point of view now. Hey, I\'m in favor of this. Potentially, it\'s a great bloodsport feature that will entertain people and make certain ones a handsome profit. Lot\'s of opportunities for impropriety, too. :D
-
and then ..to complicate things little bit.
you could make a list of fighters...then if some fighter wins he could have more respect..(that sows out in the list thing)and ppl have to bet a little higher on him next time..
then the fighters can have a meaning..
what im trying to say ist that fighters see a point of killing and ppl can see a good fight...its like a engine of duels..U must make duels interesting to fighters..
-
Good luck to you guys !
This is gonna be very funny that\'s for sure :D

The house always wins. Casinos do make a profit, you know. What are your chances of winning in a five-person game of poker? One in five. But people do it.
-
I agree with you Davis, except for that one in five thing. A person that is active and watch a lot of fights get to know the skills of the fighter and has a greater chance of winning then a n00b to the sport.
And Tyriel, that\'s a good idea. We could make like a top ten list...what we would need is a place to show this list ingame...like a sign or something. Dunno how to fix that, any ideas are welcome!
Thanx guys for helping out!
-
Good luck with this guys, can\'t wait to kick Zeus ass ;)
-
well actually...Im glad you said that Cal! Me and Zeus have plans of fighting as well...So any person who wants to challenge us may take his chance...or you can even watch me and Zeus fight eachother :D
-
LOL how could ive missed that you\'re redmonk :). Anyway im glad to see that you guys do what i wanted to stimulate people to do. Organizing duels. Quite a coincidence :).
Here are some thoughts i have (as far as i remember them).
1: Like someone pointed out fraud could be possible. Not by you guys (wouldn\'t dear to say that :D), but by fighters and the betting crowd. Like in a box match a fighter could be payed to go down. How are you going to prevent such a sort of thing?
2: I assume fighters can bet just like the crowd can?
3: Are there going to be seperate categories? Like a general one, one in which a npc is fought, one for fighters only, one for magicians. Maybe a rookie, veteran, elite as well.
4: When are you going to hold the first contest? I think it would be great to have one when CB is just out. Perhaps as a celebration immediately at release or somewhat later to let people earn money experience and armor+weapons first. Come to think of it, at the beginning everyone is just as unexperienced and basic, so a newbie could easily kill someone like Draklar.
5: You seem to say that sometimes all fighters go the arena at the same time and fight each other till one remains. However how are you going to prevent foul play (first a group kills the other players). And this can be extended. Like having two groups duel each other. Or having fighters duel one on one, then let the remaining ones fight again one on one. Here who a player has to fight is based on chance or when two agree they want to fight.
6: The top ten list is a good idea, maybe ask the devs if they would be so polite to provide an ingame place to hang this. And maybe you could post the result on this forum.
7: In my topic, someone stated that the devs will organize competitions, not sure though if this is true. However also someone said that anyone wanting to fight can go to the arena and fight anyone who is there. So you should make it interesting enough for fighters.
8: Maybe you could make (if this is possible in CB) a ceremonial symbol for the victor ingame. Perhaps a weapon or armor or something usefull. Maybe this changes every contest.
Alright this is it for now, if any new thoughts come up ill post them too.

Isn\'t this the AGES Guild\'s job? Or have they kinda died out, I haven\'t seen Deddarus in a while...
-
wow..thats a lot of questions...Ill do my best! ;)
1, We are not going to prevent such a thing. Gambling is about risktaking. Sometimes people are paid to lose and there is nothing to do about it. Knomder & Zeus can assure you that we will never be behind such an act of cheating. If we find out that a fighter has been paid to he is banned from the pit (we decide for how long). We will also make sure that the \"crime\" is known to the public, so angry players can get their revenge.
2, Of course, the fighters are NOT allowed to bet in their own fight. Otherwise he could bet on the opponent and lose by purpose.
3, Anybody is allowed to fight anybody. If a person wants to fight in the pit it\'s his own decision, so a mage can never be forced to fight a fighter.
If a fighter comes up to us and tells us he wants to fight then we could try getting him an opponent that fits him. Thats the closest we will get to categories.
4,
5, The rules for \"Last Man Standing\" are simple. Lots of people are put in an arena where they fight until one person is left. If 10 guys decide to kill the others than so be it. Nothing stopped someone else from creating an army of 11. In the end there is only 1 winner, so if ten guys group up they will still have to share the prize.
We can hardly interfere in a fight and say \"HEY YOU THERE! ONLY ONE AT THE TIME ON ZEUS!\"
8, We will have some kind of token or symbol if possible, it all depends on CB.
And here are some new adds: If a player whiches to fight more than one opponent at the time we could fix that. There might be some veteran out there that believes that he can take on 3 noobs.
There will also be team battles which might be a lot of fun. This way friends can form a team of 2 or 3 members to fight another team.
And about AGES guild...if they have any complaints they should tell us.

Yah AGEs Guild was designed for exactly this, and if Deddarus was around he would flip the lid on this! But I haven\'t seem in in ages(lol) so do what you wish for now...
EDIT: Well it looks like their site bit the dust, so I imagine it has fallen apart unless the site just got moved, who knows. I wonder where Deddarus went, nice guy if I\'ve ever met one!

Plus, it doesn\'t really matter wether there are two gaming-\"guilds\" or not, that\'s just good for the customer. :)
