Title: smithing system
Post by: mbahleda on April 18, 2004, 02:29:28 am
I have an idea for a possible smithing system that could be used in planeshift.

First, instead of saying \"so-and-so needs to be at level 30 smithing to make an iron long sword,\" I believe that anybody should be able to make anything at any level, as long as they have the right supplies. The skill level of the person who made the armor would put a certain armor rating on the armor. For example, a really good smith could make a suit of steel armor, and lets say the armor rating would be 100. A less than average smith could make the same thing, and the armor rating would only be 40. Other fighting skills would also affect armor rating. The greater the armor rating, the less damage you would take. Of course, better metals that are used would have an effect of raising the armor rating.

I hope this makes sense. It might be too complicated to actually do, as this is just a vague idea. Please respond with any comments/suggestions related to this.

I personally like this Idea. It is original.

So your skill determines, not what kinds of armor you make, but how good the armor is. Im all for that, but I don\'t think we would have such a runescapish system anyway...

Also, I believe that armor and weapons should be able to be decorated with gold, silver, and gems. Armor decorated with these things would add to other skills besides armor rating and weapon skills such as magic, endurance, etc.  Maybe gold lated armor would add +1 to every skill? Just a suggestion.

maybe for enchanted gems but I think that gold would actually make things weaker since gold is so soft.

I doubt that mere decorations would affect the overal strenght of the armor Ineluke, so gold decorations wouldn\'t make it weaker.
There are lots of explanations one could give to stat bonusses. Ofcourse there\'s always magic (which can \'explain\' almost everything lol). A beautiful armor would strike fear into the hearts of those who see their opponent wear it. Or it would simply make the person who wears it proud and have more selfconfidence. Whatever...
I like the idea.
However, I don\'t think that some kind of crappy smith could make a beautiful armor, no matter what its armor value is. I do however think that skill level should affect armor value.

Perhaps when you make armor, you get a menu sort of like at character creation, so you can add designs and other interesting stuff.  Maybe you can submit a design for the devs to upload that only you can use, and it would be your unique trade mark.  Of course this could affect the value as noone wants to wear bright pink armor that says \"I ownz ur momZ.\"  And of course, anyone who just started smithing shouldn\'t be able to make eligent armor, maybe start with only a few options, but after you gain experience in smithing, more customizing options could be opened up to you.

Play UO and you\'ll see the same :)

Well... almost.
In Ultima Online they use 2 catogories if I\'m right, just normal and exellent. You\'ll also be able to mark weapons when you made them, so everybody who gets it will see that it\'s made by you :)

How better your smithy skills how better the weapon. You will need to have a special amount of iron , gold etc. to make it, but note that sometimes you won;t be able to create the weapon, than you lost you\'re metal and you\'ll have nothing! When you\'re smithy skills are higher you will get this less than when you\'re smithy skills are low.
