Since guns, didn\'t work so well and like its obvious most people don\'t like the gun idea, I\'ve decided to take the liberty, of creating this thread, to invent an all new authentic 100% original non-copyrighted ranged weapon.
Here\'s how you could make it easy to state:
Weapon name: (Has to be original)
How many hands needed: (One handed weapon, two handed weapon, or one in each hand type weapon)
Weapon Base: (Is it mostly made of metals, woods, or both)
Projectile: (What it shoots)
Type of impact: (How does the projectile hit the enemy; does it blow up, does it pierce, poke, cut, etc...)
What it looks like: (Pictures would be greatly appreciated, so we can visualize what you have created)
Strengths: (Good things about this weapon)
Weaknesses: (Bad things about this weapon)
Costs: (Is this ranged weapon easy to maintain? Are the projectiles needed expensive or are they plentiful)
C\'mon you brainiacs and rangers, I know you have thought of something, post them! Oh yah BTW it would be nice if a dev came and checked this out see if its a good or bad idea, you know trying to help create an authentic made only-in-planeshift ranged weapon. Maybe whoever came up with the best one, will be put in the game, I don\'t know I don\'t speak for you guys, but just a thought.

This is not a primary weapon since it\'s used mainly to stun/poison an opponent. But this is good assassin weapon nevetheless.
Weapon Name: Stalker
How many hands needed: Two.. when operated
Weapon Base: Wood
Projectile: Darts
Type of impact: Poke (no dmg at impact at all)
What it looks like: Thin, Long wooden tube, about 24\'\' in length.
Strengths:
Can only be used primarily by players that researched the assassin skill(or something like that :D). It can stun an opponent for 5-10 seconds. It can poison an opponent(HP decrease).
Weaknesses:
1. When used, it cannot be a primary weapon. The process of putting it away and equipping a real weapon takes time..
2. Darts come without poison or stun poison. Assassin has to apply it before using darts, otherwise they are useless.
3. Miss chance is great since it\'s unpredicatble weapon and you have to aim it into someones bare skin. So miss chance is large.
Costs: The blowgun doesn\'t require any repairing. Assassin has to stock darts. Assassin has to learn the skill of applying poison or go to specialist..
Placing poison for darts is not cheap at all.
I know it\'s simple and all, but just an idea that came into my head
-
invent an all new authentic 100% original non-copyrighted ranged weapon
I dont think the blowgun falls into that category
-
OK I was active in your last thread so im not going to disappoint here.
I have 2 weapons. One is for a magic orientated player, the other is a for a sword or axe wielding warrior. This is a 1st draft and ill make modifications to the idea if there is an obvious inbalance.
Weapon 1 (Magic style weapon): It is worn on the head yet does not fire a projectile as such. It is more of a magic aid.
Weapon name: Open to suggestions.
How many hands needed: None.
Projectile: Magic energy with a hint of disorientation.
Type of impact: Mental.
What it looks like: Metal headband with a crystal attached to the front of the band that has the ability to concentrate mental energy at long distances. I will draw up a diagram later today.
Strengths: Is able to disorientate an opponent through the use of mental energy making them succeptible to attack from the attacker. Reduces their ability to deflect attacks for a certain period of time and they sustain a slight increase in damage when hit.
Weaknesses: Causes the user to incur a loss in stamina and defense also rendering them succeptible to attack from a 3rd party for an undetermined period of time.
Costs: The only cost is stamina. The weapon can only be used after the users stamina recharges back to 100%. Perhaps the recharge time could vary depending on another skill.
Other acting influences: The chance of making a successful attack depends on 2 contributing factors.
1. The level of a skill associated with this ranged weapon, the higher the level the greater the chance of making a successful attack.
2. The level of the opponents skill in deflecting such attacks. The higher their level the less chance of making a successful attack.
Weapon 2 (Malee range enhancement): It is attached to the primary weapon and gives it the ability to be thrown accurately and also allows the weapon to fly in an ark so it returns to the user.
Weapon name: Carrier Pidgeon (this name is not set in concrete, yet I thought it was appropriate due to the movements and objectives of a carrier pidgeon).
How many hands needed: Two Hands.
Projectile: What ever the primary happens to be, except at a distance.
Type of impact: Combination of slashing and stabbing.
What it looks like: Attaches midway along the weapon or towards one end so long as the weight is evenly distributed on each side of the device. Looks somewhat like a blade/wing, (more to add).
Strengths: Gives malee weapon users the ability to have a ranged weapon that has the potential to deliver a strong attack.
Weaknesses: Due to its weight and shape the range is not as far as other ranged weapons. Although it makes up for this in attack damage. Due to its mass and shape it uses alot of stamina. At lower skill levels you can actually cause harm to yourself on the return of the weapon. The higher the skill level the less chance there is of you injuring yourself catching it when it returns.
Costs: Costs stamina which in turn limits the rate at which you can deploy the weapon.
Its just occured to me that im strapped for time, so ill have to add more detail and thought to this post a little later.

Heres my try:
Weapon name: Spitter
How many hands needed: one handed
Weapon Base: flesh with chitin-alike hull
Projectile: acid balls
Type of impact: on impact the ball collapse and the acid is all over the target
What it looks like: A long but thin insect with many legs, When weared the legs are wrapped aound the arm. The head is near the schoulder, the bottom over and in front of the hand.
Strengths:- high rate of fire
- acts as light armor on the covered arm
- no malus in hand to hand combat
- around 20-30 balls in reservoir
Weaknesses:- short to lower medium range
- long time to equique
- prohibits other armor on covered arm( only body armour without arm wearable)
- needs to be fed or goes in stasis: before or when you equique it, you must feed it with nutrients for it to stay awake, if it goes in stasis while worn, you cant use that arm or unequique it till it is again awake.
- refill of acid reservoir needs time ( ie continous) and a liquid of mineral salts in water (to get from your alchemist or cook-for-krans), for refill and feed second hand must be empty
- its possible to kill/destroy it, when critical hits on arm would result in destroyed armor
Costs: amunition is moderate to find/build, if unequiqued no maintenance is reqired, nutriates suffice for around 2 hours awakeness
edit: spelling

Weapon name: hopiliabow
How many hands needed: two handed weapon
Weapon Base: similar to crosbow
Projectile: small swords/daggers
Type of impact: it pierces, same effect as a stab
What it looks like: Projectile impailed in victim
Strengths:
1. Use for newbie swords + daggers!
2. V. damaging
3. Projectiles recoverable
Weaknesses:
1. Chance of enemy weilding Projectile
2. Hard to carry that many swords/ daggers with you
3. Moderate time to switch weapons
Costs:
1. Cost of projectiles vary some are rare others plentiful.
2. Requires some maintinance
3.Weapon expensive and hard to build
-
well... why make this list ranged only?? close combat weapons can be posted here just the same!! i\'ll make the first one right away:P
Weapon name: Katar (those who play multiple rpg games already know what i mean)
How many hands needed: It consists of 1 in each hand, and can not be eqiuped in 1-h only.
Weapon Base: Metal and iron only
Type of impact: Cut, slash, pierce
What it looks like: A sort of oversized dagger/undersized shot sword that has a sort of vast glove on it, and can break up to the left and right making 3 large blades that are verry tin.
Strengths: Extremely vast, good close combat weapon, does enormous piercing and cutting damage when used properly.
Weaknesses: The size makes it fast, but also makes you have to stand on less then a arm-length of the victim and thus gives a large-weapon user a advantage if he/she keeps distance.
Costs: It is very expensive to make, because of the mechanism inside to make the blade split, and to get the blade strong enough not to break when split up.
Maintenance is verry low (just some polishing now and then) when the weapon is made properly cause then it will be almost impossible to damage.
-
Weapon name: Shock-Bolt (because the bold being fired comes as a shock, read below
How many hands needed: epends on what type. Two-hands are however preferable for higher accuracy.
Weapon Base: Metal, although the bolts can be wood based
Projectile: Bolts (Possibly specially adapted)
Type of impact: Pierce, like any other arrow or bolt (poisoning or other effect optional.
What it looks like: It looks like a sword. Honestly! Exept that the sword has a hollow inside which contains a spring. IT also has a trigger on the hilt, which when pressed opens the tip of the swords and releases the spring to deliver a one time shot.
Strengths:
- Your enemy definately does not see this coming.
- Can be used as a sword too. This leads to...
- You do not need to re-equip if you are suddenly faced with melee combat.
Weaknesses:
- Only one shot.
- Not very accurate and less powerfull.
- Very slow loading.
Costs: It\'s slightly mechanical, so you need to keep it oiled. It\'s also a good idea to keep the sword straight, or your aim will be off.
-
Nitrine
Two-handed
Looks like a normal bow but has two long spikes poking out of the bow slitely to the side of where the arrows will exit the bow. A long block coming out the back of the bow in the middle to hold 2 arrows in place and so the bow can be used as a spear in close combat. the block has a slit in it so it will not effect the firing power of the bow. Designed to be held horizontally not vertically like standard bows.
Strengths: can fire two arrows plus the close combat advantage
Weaknesses: hard to use and wears out faster than most other weapons
-
hmmm...so far we have a blow gun, a magical psychic helmet thing, a weapon from Half-Life, a large crossbow that shoots daggers, a katar, a medivel cane-gun, and a bow that can be used in close combat. the last two are the only ones that are actually original and the \"Nitrine\" might actually be interesting if not ungainly.
-
Ok this is not entirely original but who cares, really.
Name: No idea as to a name.
Hands: One (maybe two)
Base: Wood
Projectile: Spears
Impact: (See above and if you can\'t figure this out you get the spiffy orange
dunce cap)
Appearance: Not sure how to describe this, but i\'ll give it a shot. A long tapered,
flat piece of wood with a curve at the rear.
Strengths: Relative fast to use and also quite powerful (It chucks spears so what do
expect).
Weaknesses: Spears don\'t just lie around you know (also imagine carrying 20 spears at once)
Costs: The spears, but apart from that nice and reliable.
P.S. This idea isn\'t original as it was actually made by Australian Aborignes (is that how you spell it?)
-
Can\'t say if my idea is original or not...
I\'m thinking of a crystaline throwing object (Projectile)... Some sort of unstable/fragile crystal, that breaks into thousands of pieces when shattered, and thus creating a small cloud of crystal particles. The particles will only do poorly at damaging bare skin and armor but will cause much trouble to eyes and breathing and will completely blind you for a period of time unless you have reflexes (some sort of reflex throw) fast enough to close your eyes. Likewise with holding your breath. The crystal will be thrown by hand og used in a sling. By nature the object is fragile and therefor also somewhat expensive.
Krans have some affinity for this weapon. Other races can use it as well, but are required a higher dexterity skill.
Not the most commen of weapons they will only be sold in specialized shops (One for crystals and chemicals) or by Krans.
Weapon name: Shattercrystal?... I really don\'t have any good ideas for the name
How many hands needed: one handed
Weapon Base: not aplicable (some sort of crystal?)
Projectile: Small pieces of shattered crystal
Type of impact: Some blunt damage if thrown directly at target. Else cutting?
What it looks like: Because of it\'s fragile state, no refinement will be performed. Chunks of yellow crystal.
Strengths: Area effect, very effective in paralyzing opponents
Weaknesses: Somewhat expensive and fragile
Costs: Not exactly cheap, they\'re not too expensive either as they can only be used once...
Note: I thought of that Spearthrowing stick to... Just to see that it had been mentioned already
-
ok looked through this and might have original idea (even if it is a little weird). also if someone want to explain how it might work im open to suggestions .
name: poison-frog-head glove
hands needed : 1
base: leather/organic
progectile: frog-head spits acid balls
type of impact: splatters on contact
appearance: frog-head somehow attached on top of a leather glove
strengths:
- acid burns through light armor and skin to do damage (multiple shots could make it burn through better armor i guess)
- its a magic glove unlimited ammo
- head does not impead gloves actions(can still carry things)
-rapid fire
weaknesses:
- does low damage
- should be used at long range, acid splatters
costs: free but hard to find from monsters (or maybe you could attach the head to a glove somehow)
Ps: got part of this idea reading the spitter weapon
-
Name: Cow/Penguin Siege Engine
People Needed For Maximum Effectiveness: 3
Base: Varies - Can be wood or metal, only the wealthiest people can afford the metal ones.
Projectile: Poisoned, Rabid Cows/Penguins
Type of Impact: Splatter, or if the cow/penguin survives, massive biting and poisoning.
Appearance: A large wooden base is fit onto several, reinforced wood wheels. A board is placed at an angle on the base, with various types of reinforcements that are usually magically enhanced. Two posts fit in a slot on each side of the board. A wide, short piece is placed at the bottom end of the angled board. Each end of a strong string of hundreds of pieces of entwined wire is reinforced onto the posts of wood. the loop is tightly stretched over the needle.(This is what all the Cow/Penguin Siege Engines have in common. Some are endorned with intricate dwarven designs, some have automated tools that automatically release the string, and some might even have additional magical enchantments. It depends on the creator\'s imagination and how wealthy he/she is.
Strengths: Quite effective against organic targets. Causes extreme panic among troops. Rabidness actually spreads through magical means. Many types of poison may be applied. In case cows are not available, penguins may be used.
Weaknesses: Although it\'s a siege engines, completely useless against non-organic targets unless it needs a red/green painting job. Over usage of this weapon might starve local cities that depend on dairy farms for survival. The rabies part of the cows almost never works because the actual cow has a low chance of surviving when launched. In addition, the poor cows/penguins are badly treated.
Costs: Varies, but is usually quite expensive. It\'s also difficult to convince farmers to lend their cows for ammunition. As for rabidness, it is sometimes dangerous to go look for a rabid wolf to contaminate the cows. For poison, it is not required, but greatly increases effectiveness, especially because it\'s difficult for cows to administer rabies when they are dead.
*I\'m not sure if this is original or not, but if cows aren\'t original, then I\'ll go with penguins instead >=D

Weapon name: Striking Frog (because how the weapon attack)
How many hands needed: One handed weapon, Two handed for increase accuracy (accuracy increase when the other hand is empty).
Weapon Base: Mostly metal.
Projectile: Spear
Type of impact: Piercing
Appearance: It looks just like any other spear, except for a that the lower half of the spear is slightly thicker then the upper half. The lower half contains a strong metal chain that is roughly twice as long as the spear. The internal mechanism contains two spring, one lining the inner tube of the lower half of the spear that\'ll propell the front part forward. The chain contains the second spring that pulls the spear tip back after firing it. With the help of a skillful tug, the spearhead can reload itself.
Strengths: No ammo limit. Fast reload (The act of tugging spear reloads it). Can be used as a melee weapon.
Weaknesses: Due to the complex/delicate mechanism, the spear\'s durability is lower then other weapons and has a chance of jamming when durability reduce to a certain level. The range is also limited (only two and a half spear lenght, two for the chain and a half for the spear head). Require a high skill level in related weapon to use it to full capacity.
Costs: Due to delicate mechanism, the weapon needs a moderately high level of maintainance.
-
Weapon name: Azure Eye Blade
How many hands needed: One handed or two handed, depending on size.
Weapon Base: metal, exotic.
Projectile: Magic beam.
Type of impact: Energy-based.
What it looks like: A long straight sword with a crystal near the hilt.
Description: The ultimate weapon for any swordman. The blade itself is actually forged in two interlocking halves, the two halves contains a notch at the base holds a special crystal that draws their power from the Azure Sun. A trigger is fitted onto the handle which when pressed will charged the crystal. Upon release, the two halves seperates to allow the crystal to unleash a magical blast before the two halves closes again.
Strengths: Melee and Ranged. Unlimited ammo.
Weaknesses: Long cool down. A chance of jamming when the blade\'s durability is low that\'ll damage the blade and reduce its durability even more (crystal fires and hit the blade itself).
Costs: Expensive to purchase and deteriorate rapidly due to the mechinism that supports the entire blade.
-
Weapon name: Striker/Slinger/Slicer/Piercer Stinger! :]
How many hands needed: One
Weapon Base: Variety of metals, usually combined with leather and other organic materials for comfort and ease of use
Projectile: Light-[Insertcolorhere] rods, about 3mm thick, magically created/made of magic (or tech so advanced it looks like magic, but that\'s unlikely)
Type of impact: Armor piercing, depnding on quality
What it looks like: A disc doming out ~3cm from the hand of smooth gemstone, surrounded by a metal ring (which covers the outside edge about 1/5 of the way in). The containing ring attaches to the holding methods.
Strengths:
-Projectiles are fast!
-Can be devastating, depending on quality
-Light, portable, easily concealed
Weaknesses:
-Gemstone disc may need to be recharged, or may be what forms into the projectiles (disposable and must be refilled)
-Completely Useless if used up
Costs: Gemstone discs may be used up physically as projectiles, or require recharging with mana. Diffcult to produce, may backfire on creator. Very expensive to acquire, therefore reserved for those who can afford it.
Control: Willed.
-
Yeah, I like Monketh\'s the best. Thats awesome. Unfortunately the only \"original\" ideas I have are either not original or are too close to other ones already posted. Actually I think that magic headband is a pretty good idea too.
-
Name: Ralohu (I just made up some name :P)
History: Its a rare assasins tool sold in the black market. It is quite cheap to buy but its a hard find and the needles cost a huge amount of money. It is carryed in the other hard of an assasin who carrys a dagger. The needles are actually a rare type of metal which is solulabe in blood. When the metal gets in it weakens the muscles until they lose all power and are unable to work. The needles an only affect a small area so the assasins aim for a certain area usually the leg to stop them from moving, the arms to stop them from fighting, or the heart to stop it and kill them. The weapon is quite complicated with many gears and such in the body. When one needle is shot it must be wound again which is done by twisting the button used to shhot clockwise. It then must be reloaded by sticking another needle into the hole. This weapon is usually used in harded jobs or if the target is very strong.
Hands: One at all time except when winding
Base: Metal, Wood, Leather somtimes added where it is held by the owner to stop spliters and so finger print magic will show prints blurry
Projectile: A small needle almost two inches in length which is made of a rare metal that stops muscles from working.
Impact: Needle must cut skin on impact and must be near target area or is usless
Looks: Looks like a short fat stick with a button on the top and a tiny hole in the end.
(bah, sorry I can draw stuff :P)
It is made to look like a stick since it is illegal.
Strengths:
- Small
- One handed
- Makes kills easyer
- Fast working
- Easy to hide
- Easy operation
Weaknesses:
- Illegal
- Hard to find
- Expensive needles
- Must use two hands to wind again
- Must hit target area
- Short range
Costs: The actual shooting part is cheap but rare and must be bought through the black market. The needles cost a huge amount of money and are hard to find.
-
Name: Flosh (Comes from the voice when used)
History: A Xacha alchemist called Sha\'lon got task to make weapon for assasination of an important noble. The weapon had to be easy to use and powerful enough to have range longer than 600 meters. He pondered for few night and got an idea. He made a sealed \"cannon\" which had water inside it and one set of crystals sealing and one set amplifying the light. It also had mirrors directing the light to the water and after it there was small space for bullet (round) , lock and barrel. Using the gun was pretty simple (but time consuming) but it had to be loaded first. It had to gather the energy of the Azure Sun for five minutes and then it was ready to use. Then one had to mutter command word to make the crystals work. Soon the water started boiling and the pressure inside the gun grew. A marker showed when it was ready to use. The user aimed using two finely cut crystals and pressed a button on top of the gun. Unfortunately this type of gun was not advanced enough because of the complicated build, long loading time, hard attaching and aiming and the overheating of the barrel so only few of these guns were produced.
Materials: Metal, Crystals and some variable components.
Projectile: Perfectly shaped bullet stone. It could be edited to shoot some kind of bolts.
Impact: Very deadly impact. Could even crack Kran\'s natural armor easily from 100 meters.
Looks: Long cannonlike gun with scope and round tank like structure as its base. Also has system for attaching it.
Strenghts:
-Long range
-Powerful
-Silent
-Aiming is easy and accurate for skilled users
Weaknesses:
-Expensive
-RARE
-Attaching and loading
-Hard to use without skill
-Almost impossible to conceal somehow. (And not very portable)
Cost: Just sign here with blood.
-
hmm... only idea which doesn\'t tell me \"Hack n Slash\" is the Syzerian\'s one. But if I get it right, the arrow feathers would be problem when shooting...
Besides I don\'t think you can make 100% original weapon that is actually useful... otherwise someone would make it in real life in middle ages... the times when people actually had some experience in shooting those things...
umm... and what is wrong with the standard ranged weapons again?

A javalin.
Not origal but i like it.
a jav is one handed and u can use a sheild when using it unlike a bowe.

Did you read the title of this thread?...
Back on-T:Anywho, I like mine, but that\'s probably because I created it. It\'s original for the most part, but over-powerful. My other favorite: the Striking Frog.
-
Hey! Someone like my idea! I\'m happy.
Monketh, as for your design, I think the cost of using it might well balance the overpowering problem (especially the possibility of shooting yourself).
However I\'m a bit confused, is the projectile a rod shaped or disc shaped?
-
Hmm Drak called mine hack and slash.... I tried to come up with somthing that would do the exact opposite :P
-
Yes i read the title of the thread monketh.
Would u have me open a whole new thread just to say i like javs?
So u have nothing better to do then flame me?
there othere ideas that clame to be origial but arnt really
yet u didnt flame them.
I also read what range weapons that were listed on PS website and didnt see javs.
So shot me for binging it up with your new weapon,
ouch ouch .
-
Calm down please. Monketh was not flaming anyone. Perhaps he misunderstood you, confusing \"Javelin\" with \"Spear\" perhaps?- As javelins are infact ranged weapons.
If you want to have fisticuffs with other posters, please take it to PMs... thank you. :)
-
Monketh was saying that the Topic is NEW and the first post states that the weapon should be unique and original. Monketh is just saying that javelin, while a ranged weapon, is not unique nor original.

The title of the thread is \"Invent a new ranged weapon.\" You made no effort to do so, unlike the other unoriginal posters, who did make such an effort.
There are other threads for requesting what weapons should be in the game farther down this forum, it was my implied suggestion that you should have posted your request in one of them. Javelins should be discussed for being implemented, because they\'re a valid ranged weapon with realistic use and were seen in that time-period, but this isn\'t the right place for that. Perhaps I should have written that along with a link to a weapon suggestion thread? If there isn\'t one, however, there is no reason why one should not be created. (Thus, unless it\'s spam, the mods wouldn\'t seek vengeance.)
I do have better things to do than flame you. Suggesting because of a perceived flame that I nothing better to do is faulty logic, comparable to Seytra\'s spin on one of my political statements to twist it to how he viewed it. (Thankfully, he only did this once. :) By using synonyms, you can completely alter a statement.)
Now; for the other part of the post:
~PlaneWalker posted:
However I\'m a bit confused, is the projectile a rod shaped or disc shaped?
Rod-shaped, very thin. Indeed, I think they should be made out of the disc itself. This solves a few problems. First, it makes the projectiles physical. Second, it solves balancing issues a bit, because it is basically disposable.
-
ohhhh i got one
a Gun :P
lol
nah...oye
make a boomerang but dont call it a boomerang call et a throwen stick
-
I will give it a shot..
Name: ??
Type: Half disc, with very many and small needels containing poison on the straight side and blade ish on the round side
Impact damage: If you throw it like you would with a frisebie, it might cut the target badly and then pierce into the body which will break the needels, leaving the body poisoned and with half needles inside it. Can also be used as a melee weapon
Damage: Very very very leathal due to the sharp blade and the poisonos needels
Price: This disc is very time consuming to make and needs time to apply the poison inside the needels. Only a few persons know how to make the special needels and the tradional poison so the price is very high. If you find a person with it, he\'s not likely to sell it because of the rareness
I don\'t know if it\'s original but I thought it sounded good :)
And I know I spell bad :P
-
Not sure if its very original... (it\'s a shoulder launched giant crossbow...) but I like its idea (history had giant crossbow, but not portable one.
Name: Shot of Azure
Hand: One handed.
Damage type: Piercing, Explosion.
Projectile 1: Conventional bolt/arrow, cost varies with material.
Projectile 2: Bolts housed in a tube that lightly clips to the string. Bolts flies out when fired, causing area damage, moderately expensive.
Projectile 3: Crystal tipped arrow (too thick to be just an arrow), which explode on impact, expensive.
Description: The weapon resembles crossbow, with a size between a hand held crossbow and a ballista. Two straps with a shoulder mount allows the weapon to be carried on the back, a swiveling shoulder mount also allows the weapon to be brought up with ease. Two pulleys at the middle of the crossbow guides the bow string allow the string to be pulled back further without touching the wielder. The weapon goes from 3 feet (small) to 7 feet (very large). A crank roughly a foot in front of the shoulder mount is connected to an internal mechanism that pulls the string backward when cranked. A trigger is position at arm length away from the shoulder and a sight is mounted slightly below the bow itself to assist in aiming the weapon.
Strength - High damage. Very long ranged. Relatively accurate against slower targets.
Weakness - Relatively heavy. When wielded causes a heavy penalty in to-hit and to-block rate. Slow reload time, and even slower for weaker characters. Accuracy decreases for faster targets.
Cost - Expensive, both the weapon and the ammo.
Sumamry - Designed from strong archers, the Shot of Azure\'s incredible range and damage provides devastating support against hostile archers. However, due to its inaccuracy, it is not advised to fire at enemies engaged in melee combat with friendly fighters. When along, the Shot of Azure provides the archer an early advantage with its long range and strength. Because of its slow reload time, it is advised that the archers switch to their prefered weapon after the use of Shot of Azure.

I made this weapon up in the \'New ranged weapon\' thread as an example for using the yoyo concept and designing a weapon...
I\'m not sure if it fits exactly here but thought I\'d try my luck. Its basically a ball and chain type weapon so theres no reason why it couldn\'t be swung and released, or It might be considered a \'ranged\' melee weapon considering its supposed to have a long chain.
Name : Devils (<- maybe replace with appropriate creature in planeshift like \'Tremor\' or what have you) Tongue
Description : A hand sized loop with a strong chain attacted connected at the other end to a spindle inside an outer two halved shell. The outer shell is attached to the spindles sides and curves around most of the spindle itself, leaving only a slightly larger then chain width opening for the chain. The hand loop attaches into a slot along the chain opening ( where the chain is wrapped around ) and clicks into a simple locking mechanism. Thus weapon is carried \'locked\' looking like a loop connected to a spiked or bladed ball. In more elaborate designs the spikes/blades are retracted until the chain unlockes, also larger designs have the hand inside the ball holding a bar.
Use : If a strong enough force, such as a throw action occurs the locking mechanism releases and the ball can unwind. If used correctly the ball flies at its target bludgeoning them and if bladed slicing them. The weapon now acts as a ball and chain (if you\'ve ever seen \'Salute of the Jugger\' you\'ll know how effective a chain can be when swung, then add in a ball full spikes/blades ;D. Anyway it can also be used to disarm targets (wrap around a sword/axe and pull it away) or entangle legs or choke if skilled enough. After combat it is wound back up and locked.
Pros : easy to carry, range, ability to disarm/entangle.
Cons : hard to use, in most cases effective against one target only. Wound up after combat, takes time.

Name: Dagger Whip
# Hands: one handed.
Projectile: Dagger\'s blade.
Damage: Piercing, Slashing. The blade is preferably poisoned.
Shape: Identical to a normal dagger, except for a ring at the hilt-end with the width of three fingers. Enclosed in it are two smaller rings about 1 and a quarter finger width each.
Description: The dagger whip is a medium ranged attack weapon. The dagger\'s hilt contains two set of springs, a launch spring and a winding spring. Both can be wound by placing the two finger through the rings at the base of the hilt and twirl the daggers several times. When wounded, a trigger press near the base of the blade releases the blade and launch the firing spring. A second pull activates the winding spring, pulling the blade back by the chain. However, due to its small size, the weapon itself does little damage when fired. It does, however, becomes highly effetive when used in conjunction with poison.
Pros: Light weight, fast firing time., and quite accurate. Same effectiveness as a dagger in melee combat.
Cons: Low ranged damage. Possibility of jamming. Slow reload.
Cost: Somewhat expensive.
Suggestion: The weapon excels at assisting a player escaping from battle. The poisoned blade and the fast firing speed allow the player to make his/her pursuer pay for their impudence.

Weapon name: Kuruko\'s Green Leafs Cedar Bow
How many hands needed: Two
Weapon Base: Mostly wood but with metal handle for better precision
Projectile: Magic Arrows
Type of impact: Piercing Fire and grass entangling arrows
What it looks like: Description:Green Blue wood with some leaves around it.
Strengths: Since it pierces its target and gives some fire damage it can hit and hurt multiple enemies badly and it also makes them entangled for a moment
Weaknesses: Same as above but if it hits an friendly target it can do damage and get him/her killed.
Costs: Pretty Expensive
-
Name: Charmnet
Description: small bag of powder that can be attached to an arrow or a bolt when it hits the target a large cloud of pink and purpe dust floats arond the target and making it paralyzed it is mainly used when trying to escape because the duration is not very long, but it is just enough to turn around and run away it must hit in the upper half of the target
when used against weak opponents the only chance of failure is when you miss, but when fighting against stronger opponents the opponent can also either aviod it or hit it so that it falls down on the ground and only paralyzing frogs and mice

Good old slingshots shouldn\'t be forgotten, cheap weapon with cheap ammo, yet lethal. Alchemists could throw glass vials containing acid or explosive liquids (very expensive though). Throwing spears could be winged to increase accuracy and range.
I don\'t think that anything with more complex mechanics than a crossbow should be available. It would only seem strange.
-
oh and then the sling could also throw my small charmnet bags ;)

Yes, it would suit very well.

Well lets see ...
Weapon name: Glypinator :D (well its the first thought)
How many hands needed: two
Weapon Base: Made out of Metal, Wood, a bit of crystal (if there is any Crystal later on)
Projectile: metal bolts, like 5-10 inch i would say
Type of impact: Pierce damage (could be expanded to impact explosion)
What it looks like: It looks like a rilfe however the barrel where you put the bolts is half open on the full lenght. You need to insert a glyp into the weapon to operate (the glyp delivers the power to shoot the bolt). When a bolt is shot you can see a thin trace in the air (from the glyp power) - therefore the weapon is not suited for assassins as this would reveal their position.
(i am trying to think of a better design and will make a picture if i find the time).
Strengths: Long range weapon, straight fire line due to magical power, delivers a bit of magical damage with the projectile.
Weaknesses: Not very powerful if only piercing damage, glyph needs to be replaced after X shots (ie 20,30), requires magical knowledge.
Costs: Higher maintance cost due to projectiles and glyphs as ammunition. Could be expensive since constructing it requires a smith with magical knowledge.
It mainly is a secondary weapon, since replacing the glyp takes time - therefore you are vulnerable.
Edit: Added Picture, removed typo

Name- Diabolic Venom (lame)
Hands-2 handed like a shaft for close combat or can throw with 1h
Looks Like-Sharp Double ended spear with curved spikes with venom glands at ends(must put venom on it, get venom from like a snake monster in game)has frip handles in middle
Materials-Hard Yew Wood for shaft and iron for spikes
Strengths- Can Throw which cause big piercing damage
Can use as spear which is long ranged close combat weapon
Can do twirling slash causes fire (from speed) and hits enemies within circle in very fast motion
Can have a stack in a pile and can pick up again
Weaknesses-Twirling slash uses tons of energy
Can only use a spear (or javelin) for throwing twice
Normal spear attack is quite slow
Takes time to get ouyt another spear (once thrown)
Must have a dencent lvl in a skill

Weapon Name: Poachers Web
Description: Orrigionally consructed of all leather and used to hunt small animals, heavier versions of this weapon ar popular as anti-archer/spellcaster weapons. The poachers web is simmillar in principle to the bola. It consists of central iron ring attached to a long lanyard. Radiating from the ring are 12-20 leather thongs reinforcing a thin membraneous material (perhapse oiled silk) the ends of the thongs attach to a circular metal chain the whole of which circularises into a disk when spun. Around the circumferential chain are attached 12-20 sharp barbed hooks. The overall diameter of the projectile is 18-30 inches. the launcher is a ~30 inch long wooden shaft with a spring-loaded claw assembly at one end and a trigger to open the claw near the other end. The poachers web is launched by first attaching the launchers claw to the circumferrential chain. The launcher is twirled above the head untill the spinning chain circularises. The web is then launched like a sling, by flicking the launcer towards the target while triggering the claw release. In flight, the web behaves like a frisbee. When the leading edge of the web contacts the target, the barbed hook at that location sets, and the ring collapses while the angular momentum of the spinning chain brings all the other hooks around to set themselves in the target.
Materials: wood, leather iron, fine cloth, enchanted giant spider silk(for lanyard, very hard to come by)
Hands: two to prepare, one to launch and \"play\" afterward.
Damage: the innitial strike does damage simmillar to a medium quality dagger. If the weapon penetrates the armor of the opponent, then the hooks are set in flesh and do damage. If the armor sucessfully hits but does not penetrate the opponents armor, It may nonetheless be set in the armor piece. The likelihook to grapple armor is high for cloth, wood, leather and maille armors, almost nonexistent for plate or cuir-boulle armors. If the web sets, the intricate hooks are too dificult to remove during combat, and the target is attached to the assailant by the lanyard. If the web is set in flesh, then each turn the assailant tugs on the lanyard, inflicting moderate dagger-level damage, and drawing the target closer to him. If it is set in armor, no damage is taken, but the target cannot run away and is drawn towards the assailant. I the latter case, the target may free himself by unequiping the armor piece which he then forfeits to the assailant. Any hit by this weapon to any form of armor should inflict significant wear to the armor.
Advantages: Meelee fighters can grapple lightly armored ranged fighters and force them into close engagement.
Disadvantages: rare components, difficult weapon to learn, useless against most heavier armors, chance on a miss that weapon will become attached to a tree or other object and cannot be used for the rest of combat, occupies one hand for the duration of combat otherwise the lanyard is dropped and the enemy can get away (taking your expensive web with them!!!)

Weapon Name: Winder disk
Description: a round spiked shield mounted from the wrist on the baskside of your hand up to your elbow.
Under the diamond/steel/metal shield on one side is a spring based winding mechanism with a gear that will gradually store up potential energy. When the gear clutch thing is let go by the user the mechanism will unwind causing the mechanism to rotate rapidly. Holders attached to the spinning mechanism holding any useful throwing items (poison daggers or darts) will hit a specially lubricated board while spinning and then slide off of the holder and in the direction the board is pointing to, causing a sort of rapid fire effect.
Size varies from user to user, the bigger the Winder disk, the better (more storage adn power)
Materials: steel, iron, stronger metals, diamond, anti -twist spring/ magic resistance field with spring like effect, ammuntion, and a good craftsman who can make sense of a ton a babble
Hands: 3 The mounted-on hand to hold the clutch, the other to wind and load. A third to taunt your enemy.
Damage: Majorly affected by the power of the spring, the amount of winding and the enemy itself.
Advantages: rapid fire weapons, good for doing immense damage at a close to medium range. The spikes on the shield side could be good for damage once the launching is done and two small weapons could be drawn after use of the Winder disk (if there was a winder disk on each hand that could make four hits in combat with a whip of teh arms) The disk exterior could also be used as a good, although strangly placed shield.
Disadvantages: great strength would be needed an even then one would be slower in combat. Large amounts of ammunition would be needed for multiple uses. ...and then there\'s the problem of who would make such a thing....
Here one of the most horrid excuses for a rough drawing ever. Hope it helps...somehow.
(http://img410.imageshack.us/img410/2748/aaaaah9dq.png) (http://imageshack.us)
Note: I am sorry if this shows any similarity to the Poacher\'s Web, I thought of this weapon before I read about the Poacher\'s Web and didn\'t think that I\'d run into something quite as similar.

Weapon Name: Flouthgar
How many hands: One hand and same arm.
Weapon Base: Wooden Tube, Cloth acordian thingy like you use to blow air on fires, Flexible bladder.
Projectile: Stout poison arrow.
Type of Impact: Pierce
WHat it looks like. Weird - I\'ll draw a picture tonight.
Stregnths: Accuracy of a blow dart with the added bonus of being able to shoot far harder, including the possibility of piercing armor.
Weaknesses: A little bulky. Slow firing.
Cost: Easy to maintain, but replacement arrows are a little above average if you add the poison tip.
It would work like this. Pump your arm repeatedly to fill up a tight flexible sac with air. More pumps = more pressure. Straighten - grab barrel by trigger. Pulling the trigger releases the air into the barrel thrusting the projectile foreward in the same way a blow dart is launched.
Update: Typo\'s and Grammer fixes.

Hi all!
Got 2 ideas for throwing stones
First the easier one:
Weapon name: Murmur Stick, cause of the sound it does used
How many hands needed: one or two
Weapon Base: wooden stick
Projectile: Stones, spiked wooden balls or easy breaking leatherbags carrying burnable oil or acid. all with a hole in it.
Type of impact: blunt piercing or burning target
What it looks like: at the down side of the stick (appr.3-4 feet long) there is a handhold. somewhat higher there is a cross-brace where the projectile rests. the stick may be bended lightly, can be flexible a bit. there is a simple trigger mechanic to release the projectile. the effect the primitive weapon has: it makes you throw farer than only with your hands. especially for the dwarves (high strength, short arms)
Strengths: short reload time, various ammo: burning oilbags good for heavy armor, easy to learn. can be ised to defend in close combat but gets damaged then.
Weaknesses: less precise and less damage for long ranges.
Costs: murmur stick is very cheap. ammo prize a bit higher than a arrow, depends on kind.
the second idea is a one-man-catapult
Weapon name: Arm of earth
How many hands needed: 2
Weapon Base: a wooden column and a spring steel
Projectile: stones, leatherbags with burning oil
Type of impact: blunt, burning
What it looks like: the basic is a wooden column or 2 wooden stacks with a metal pike and foot rest at lower end to fix it at the ground. this is hold by one hand. the other hand bows the huge spring steel, fixed at the lower end of culomn, back. at the top of the spring steel the ammo can be placed.
Strengths: the stones can break shields and armor, wooden walls either. long range
Weaknesses: unpecise. high strength required. physically exhausting, heavy to carry. hard to learn
Costs: high price for weapon, ammo prize varies: stone cheap
-
Weapon name: JawProng
How many hands needed: One handed weapon
Weapon Base: Metals
Projectile: Sound Waves
Type of impact: Sonic Disruption
--could simply stun; disallowing movement, disallowing attacking...
--could cause damage from a sonic concussion,
--on a basic level it could be used like the "charmnet" suggestion; using high charisma when weilding it, one could charm an opponent into dropping defenses by neither dodging nor blocking...
--With highest ranks it could be used to summon creature swarms to attack your foe as a means or result of training up "Animal Training"(and that could break down into different jaw prongs beyond the basic 'jaw prong' for the magic ways [basic would maybe summon a swarm of groffels]-- 'red jaw prong': start with fireflys, work up to some sort of "firefox" perhaps [call it a mozilla for those too slow to get it]--'dark jaw prong': start with insects, up to bats--brown; vines, up to vermin--blue; cold-blooded stuff, amphibians, lizards, snakes etc..--azure: birds, small to big.. --crystal: perhap pixies, and at stronger levels; armed with lil jaw prongs of their own [hehe].... you get the general idea-- nothing too crazy visually, just rush in, swarm, rush out... be nice if each made a different noise.. and especially if some had different effects, but that's a lil beyond the scope of the basic idea of the weapon; so if it seems this part is a bit overboard / over/underthought-out just remember it's in brackets because it's off on a tangent)
--which level of the above would be available could depend on levels skill level, then once higher skill is attained, have attack 1-4 represent the 4 groupings
What it looks like: Similar to a jawharp ( http://www.tunji.org/bilder/percussion_instruments2/jaw_harp.jpg ), but on a massive scale
Strengths: Ammunition is infinite. Uses 'Various Skill' set of music (and possibly animal training). Makes a cool "THWANG" noise.
Weaknesses: Could always make smaller & bigger ones for different ranges, so range... it would require mental stamina, mainly will/char.. potentially its more powerful applications would be a greater drain on mental stamina, preventing overuse especially if/when the character still had to fight after using the ranged attack.....The basic version could be made easily broken just to temper out the no ammo needed benefit......(the ones for summoning swarms of different ways would be much much rarer obviously, if done)... and here are some comments on "waknesses" i got on this idea from who's read it so far: "It's just lame, loser.", "...too easy an idea in its simpler applications, too hard in its more complicated ones." "The animal thing seems like a stupid pokemon rip-off", "Is it feasable?", "What's the counter?--Earplugs?!"..etc..
Costs: Let's make music training really expensive and/or spread thru EVERY (non killable) npc as trainers with 1 specific number rank each.
EDIT: PS- dunno about the rest; but i would really appreciate feedback

Weapon name: Whizzler (because of the sound some versions make)
Weapon Base: metal for the disc, wood/leather for the surrounding machanics
Hands needed: One or two, depending on size
Projectile: a fast rotating disk-shaped blade, variable in size (assasins could hide one at the wrists, bigger ones can be used in open combat), possibly poisoned or enchanted, but should also do without
Function: A metal disk is accelerated by a spring machanism along a (wooden) guidance, at the same time being rotated by a slingshot or similar mechanism.
The outcome is a flying, spinning disc, causing impact and cutting damage, depending on the size of the disc and the strength of the spring.
Strengths:
- rather precise at close distances, rotation stabilizes the disc on its way
- the sharp edge of the disc cuts through most light armor
- can be worn hidden when small
- scalable to any needs
Weaknesses:
- the smaller the disc, the shorter the range, damage decreases with range
- is affected by wind (could be deflected by wind spell)
- discs are somewhat expensive as they have to fit the rest of the machanics, each mechanism only fits one size of discs
- long reload time, one shot-weapon
Costs:
- rather complicated mechanism, especially when made compact -> expensive
- discs have to be well-formed -> rather expensive
- the internal mechanisc need some maintenance
I don't know if this is really original, but to me it doesn't sound too bad ...
-
Hmm...something that could doulbe as a ranged weapon and a close range weapon wouldbe good i think. Nothing all that much originial can come out of it, but:
Name: Combat Needles, Piercers, ect (because of the general goal of the weapon)
Base: Very stout, but rather light weighted metal for the needle. Very hard and thick leather for the holder.
Hands Needed: One, two at most, depends on how quick you would want to through.
Projectile: Light but stout metal needles, designed in shape to be very thin, but also aero dynamic for throwing. Size can be altered, from 6 inches to 2 inches in length depending on the purpose of the needles. Very effective as poison tipped.
Function: When the throwing technique of them in trained, it will allow for piercing of all light, most medium, but very rarely heavy armor. This is for getting past heavy defenses. Not all that powerful unless hitting vital organs, but poisoning the tips is very smart and efficient.
Strengths:
-Very Precise
-Good for getting through armor
-Good for poisoning and disabling (ect)
-Can be hidden in almost anything
-Can even be used to stab at close range or when concealed.
Weaknesses:
-Unless well trained and precise, wont do much damage
-If you arent precise and dont rely on poison, VERY inefficient
-Unlike a sword, you can only hit for as many needles you have
Costs:
-Needles themselves are relatively cheap, and arent even that bad with high quality.
-Poisons are variable, from very cheap or very expensive.
-Case/Container is just very strong/rugged leather, so its cheap.
Not all that original, but in these times asking for a purely original weapon is a very steep request.

name: wrist bow
weapon base :a long armored glove and on the wrist is a shoter and it is made from plantium and gold and a soft leather ander layer with a gold dagger that can pop in and out of it(for close combat)
how many hands needed :1or2(you can get 2 or 1 of them)
projectiles: poisens arrows made of plantium wich can even pierce heavy armor
strenghs:
.can pierc haevy armor
.good at short dictance or long distance
.klls slowly takes 1min mins to kill someone if they did not take the sirum
weakneses
no weakness
cost: it cost`s 20,000tria with 100 darts darts 10 tria each
if you like it tell me :) if you dont i am ready fo critasim

Well this isn't exactly original but I/ll give it a shot.
Weapon name: Portible Ballista
Hands Needed: 2
Weapon base: Wood
Projectile: Ballista Spear
Type of Impact: Heavy Piercing
Strengths: Incredible Power in one, accurate shot. Delivers blows that can practicly drive through any sort of matierial, weathers it is wood, steel, or flesh and bone.
Weaknesses: This weapon has to be set up, which take about 2 minutes, so it would onnly be used in big parties. After it is set-up you have t load it, which takes another minute. After it is fired for the first time, it takes 45 seconds per shot.
Costs: Expensive! The Balista itself is Expensive and the spears are expensive, but each spear can be used mutiple times, until it breaks, as longs as it is found after it is shot.
-
Name: SHALF (Super Huge Amazingly Large Flamethrowerthingee)
Hands needed:2
Weapon base: iron or steel
projectile: burning oil
type of impact: burn + impact
Strengths: large amount of damage per shot. effective at both close and long range. knocks target down. relatively low day-to-day maintnence and hard to break.
Weaknesses: moderately slow reload because you have to put in oil + wind back, so it takes about 15-20 seconds to reload. cannot run with it equipped. once broken, VERY hard to fix (takes multiple days). VERY occasionally explode before shot and damage user (?). hard to aim.
Costs: moderate-high in cost. also need moderately high strength to purchase because winding it back and carrying it is very hard. Oil is bought in bottles, and is moderately expensive (but not very high). 20 shots per bottle.
Looks: strip of metal over shoulder, running down back and front. another strip of medal attached to the front and going down to the back, but in the back it is at a 45 degree angle to the previous strip. a cup is attached to the end of the 2nd strip, with a tube going back up to the shoulder. another cup attached to the previous cup via the tube is here. a metal cord is attached to the 2nd cup and it goes down to the feet in the front, and runs back to the first cup. a lever is attached to the front of the first strip of metal so when it is pushed, it stretches the metal cord out to a very taut position. pressing the button on the side of the lever releases the tension, tossing the ball of oil into the air out of the 1st cup. to reload, user fills 2nd cup, which drains into the first cup. it looks kind of like this from the side:
__u
/ \
/| |
/ | |
u / | |
| |
The tube goes from the top cup to the bottom cup and the string goes from right under the top cup, down the front, across the bottom, and back up to the bottom cup, where it is attached. the lever and button are halfway down the front.
??? s? :@#\ s?PM me and i'll edit the post.
 BOOM!!! \\o//

Ok, my contribution here. One weapon very practical, one eccentric to a fault but I love it!
Ranged weapon #1:
Name: Pebble
Description: It's a pebble with a Brown Way rune on it. Basically like a very small glyph with projectile focus. You say the magic word (not reffering to 'please', here :P) and specify the target, and wham bam! Your enemy has a small pebble-shaped hole in him, or at least a severe bruise. Brown Way specific, although you could make the pebble catch fire or freeze on impact, etc. Really fun to have the enemy advance on you, then one of his buddies collapse, yelling "He's got PEBBLES!"
Rough example:
___
/ \
| |<\ |
\___/
Projectile: itself. If you're good enough with Brown Way it can go right through someone. Also, plate/chain armor doesn't affect it as much, as metal is directly related to earth.
Strengths:
Light
Cheap and plentiful (I mean, come on! How much does it cost to carve a rune in a pebble?)
Concealed
You can carry alot of them
No maintenence
Weaknesses: Slow fire rate (unless you get really good at it and maybe duel-wield them, e.g. getting one out of your inventory with one hand while firing another with your other hand)
Taxing (You have to speak the incantation every time. Maybe you could call it back to you and rip multiple holes in the enemy :whistling:)
Magic-oriented (Not the best weapon for you Rambo's out there :D)
Ranged weapon #2, the one you've all been waiting for:
Name: The Ratapult
Description: Like the David & Goliath sling (Think like a slingshot, only without the forked twing) except with a handle and button on the end for greater accuracy and, did I mention it? It chucks rats.
Example:
_.___ ___
| | ____/ ''><
|_| + \__/______\_ = :woot: :woot: :woot:
\_/
Recipe:
One rodent (Very angry, possibly rabid)
One ratapult (Standard issue)
One laughing enemy (We'll show him!)
Put rat in sling. Careful!
Engage sling in clockwise rotation on left or right side. Rat starts squealing! :woot:
Press shiny red button , and
Watch as rat gets hurled 30 feet or more into nearest enemy.
Repeat as desired.
Also, you could combine the two ideas. Paint a Brown Way rune on the rat and say the incantation right after you release it. Rat travels 200mph to go straight through your enemy. Double kill!
Serious gold here.
Jauffre

Name: Marth'kut
Description: Projectile made of iron balls with tefu teeth set at random angles fired from a sling.
Materials: Iron for the balls, leather for the sling, 20 tefu teeth
The ball is thrown out of a sling and the teeth cut the target to pieces, simple.

First I thought about this thread was: "What could a handfiul geeks invent, that 9000 years of civilized mankind could not?
But as I see, I was a bit wrong, some ideas sound rather good, I shall have a second look and think of something myself.
