Oooh, good start. I look forward to seeing the finished product.
-
Looks good, real longsword-like.
-
looks pretty neat :D I like it, cant wait to see more
-
Simple, but thats good if you want it in-game :D Once its done and has some awesome textures on it, submit it to LLW, maybe it will be used in-game 8)
-
did some work on the blade yesterday it probobly still need more work.
im not to certain on what to do with the handle tough :(

-
That looks great i love it. PLz make more after you\'ve finnished that one.
-
I think you should have like rune letters imprinted along the handle.
-
thanks for the idea but i think i like the runes to go on the blade instead as for the hilt.
i will do some patterns there after i get back from school.

i just signed the blade :)

ornate swords carved with runes are kinda viking\'ish, and that\'s how I like \'em :P Good work :D
-
Wow, nice work. Watching this thread for more :)
-
I like the runes, and the sword in general, kinda makes the grip seem a little \"left out\" still very nice though... shiny :)

Actually runes were created by ancient germanic people during the 3rd-13th century. It was sometimes beleived to have magic powers. It was, however, later introduced to the vikings betwenn the 8th and the 11th century. The ancient germans had attached runes to their weapons of combats a couple centurys before that. So next time you thing of a sword with runes think...Germany.

sorry i just thing some people deserve credit for cool ideas. (:

For the hilt, you could browse the web for free leather textures if you want...
-
I also think a leather handle would look impressive. Maybe you could also add something to the circle on the bottom of the handle to. Like a precious stone set into it.
-
it might look a bit more balanced of you detailed up the round bit on the bottom of the sword beef beef :)
-
The first picture I thought looked like crap :) (no offense) :)
But then as you detailed the blade, it looked amazing.
Can\'t wait \'til you detail the rest of it.

Snaked...

ok progress has gone a little slow yesterday i just cant come up with the design for the engraving ad for the handle i will probobly do something like the dagger
here is how it looks now plus a bone version ;)
-
looks awesome Fredrik! :D
ps, thanks to whatever dev decided to delete my post about the origin of runes, making me look rather ignorant :P
-
I would comment, but I cant see the pics X(
-
it seams like the server crashed but now it should work :)
-
After a google search I\'ve determined that the most recently modified portion of the sword is call the \"cross\".
That said, I like the version with the steel cross as the bone cross version doesn\'t match the blade. Still, I can\'t wait for the handle and pommel to be detailed. Looking great so far. What a time consuming process.
-
actually it is called a cross-guard.
my brother said that the shape looked almost like a bone so i coun\'t ressist making it like that :) . but i will go with steel for the final.
did some experimenting with the pommel
(http://silverwolf.zapto.org/silverwolf/wip/longsword05.jpg)
i will probobly do the leather after i have gotten something to eat.
-
Excellent work, keep it up. May try to replace that yellow cross with something like a couple of gems that form a cross together? Or just one plain gem.
-
A pommel jewel would be awesome :)
-
now its only the pommel and the cross-guard left :)
but i can\'t make up my mind if those nails that are holding the leather in place should be there or not
(http://silverwolf.zapto.org/silverwolf/wip/longsword06.jpg)
-
firstly, I love what youve done with the sword and as far as the nails go: I say keeep the nails, in fact make them about 3-4 times bigger, itl give the grip some much needed detail and balance the image up nicely. or you know it could just be me...
-
did some sketching on how the pommel should look its only layer effects at the moment so it looks a little strange but i will paint it tomorrow :)

OMFG that lookss......WOW...... what more can i say??
Words cant describe it.
-
No kidding, that is amazing UV Mapping...amazing....truely amazing. It makes me want to model more :] If only I had the time... :(
-
Tiz indeed a very nice traditional looking sword, once finished it will be something to hang high and be proud of, good job eth :)
-
The problem i see in you sword is that the handle texture is surely a really nice job , well , the mesh looks also very good , it doesn t seems to have tons of polys and still looks very nice.
But if you plane to use it ingame , i dont think than anyone will see it once it will be in their hand , also the the texture seems too good to be a 256x256 one. Exept this , for being used not for realtime/ingame purpose , it looks very nice , but if it s the case , you might want to add even more polys.
-
yes your right the texture is a bit big 512x1024 but that is just my work size.
here i did some scaling so you can se it in 128x256 what i can see is that the text gets to blurry so i guess it have to go :(

and the texture

-
Two thumbs up! Looks finished to me.
-
removed the gems and adding some color variations
(http://silverwolf.zapto.org/silverwolf/wip/longsword11.jpg)
-
hmm, i think it looked better with the gems.
-
made some progress in the last hour have been occopied by some programming will hopefully finish this tomorrow
(http://silverwolf.zapto.org/silverwolf/wip/longsword12.jpg)
-
That looks great. It looks better without the gems, or maybe you could just put 1 gem in... but it looks great now 8)
-
whats a sword without a gem? anyway it looks great with or without gem.
-
ok ok i get it ill keep some of the gems but it was to much before
ok how about this design on the crossguard then
(http://silverwolf.zapto.org/silverwolf/wip/longsword13.jpg)
-
Picture doesn\'t work. :( And ya I\'ve tried copying the address into the url bar.
-
Savion sees it fine and it looks great.
-
i confirm Savion\'s post. I can see it and it looks ...really... great.
-
very nice, it looked a bit gawdy before, now it looks lovely, so what can we expect to see next hmmm...?
-
feels like it is done now :D
as for next hmmm maybe a nice katana or i might try to make a scabbard for this sword first
(http://silverwolf.zapto.org/silverwolf/wip/longsword14.JPG)
[edit]
brought out some more contrast
(http://silverwolf.zapto.org/silverwolf/wip/longsword16.jpg)
-
looks real great that is for the first pics on the first page, wasnt able to see the other ones that is :S
greets and good luck on the moddeling
-
That is the best texturing job I have seen from a Planeshift fan, submit it to LLW, and make more! ;)
-
Fredrik H,
Your sword is good quality indeed.
Is the texture on the handle seemless all around? If so good job..
The UV map is alittle unbalanced though, that\'s why the carvings in your blade is blurry in lowres.
The UV map pieceses should be in proportion unless you absolotuly want more detail on some part.
You could also use photo textures overlay on your texture to make it look more real.
I\'d say you are ready to model\\texture stuff for PlaneShift if you want to.
-
Ooooh you made that sword in a very short period of time, excellent work too! How could I not have seen this earlier...
Keep up the good work, it would be ?berkewl if you would become a contributor to the PS project.
