I was playing Pristontale the other day and this level 70 something guy walks in like hes king of the game, and starts treating people like scum because hes so much better than them and he has nothing in common with the \"n00bs\" and I though to myself, wouldnt it be great if he needed to go to the can just like everyone else..
yeah it sounds stupid, and well no it really sounds dumb in fact it is
I just thought if the sims could do it, but yes I can see why it would be as poular as a Echidna at an orgy
still it could stop people getting to far up themselves for just having played longer :)
-
This... Err.... Could be interesting...
But you know, no one likes going to the toilet, why would they want to do in in PS?

err... something\'s wrong with that? ?(
hmm... yea and you\'d have a new way to put out the fire :P

It\'s pretty obvious that a high-end player wouldn\'t treat newbies as he might have done back when he was in their level, but cockyness is annoying.
But let\'s look at it from another direction... If that level-70-guy would go to newbies and give them gold and items because he\'s nice, it\'s actually alot more cocky than going to them and saying \"I\'m better than you\". It\'s more than just saying you\'re better, it\'s showing it too.
Just like when IRL there are those people that say \"everyone are equal\" and go to Africa to give food to hungry kids. It shows that they\'re superior to those little kids, not that they\'re equal to them. Hypocrites.
Would you prefer hypocrites running around PS and giving newbies presents, or people going around and telling newbies \"Heh, you\'re only level 1, and I\'m level 80. I\'m better\"?
-
This was already discussed. I believe the answer was \"no.\"

reread the post above thine :P
anyway, I think very experienced characters terrorizing weak are just fine :]
;)

It\'s not arrogant to give presents. If someone gives someone else a present because they\'re friends, or something, it\'s ok. But when you don\'t know someone, and you think \"oh, I got so many things, and he\'s a newbie, so I\'ll give him some things\" it\'s arrogant.
-
charity doesn\'t mean you\'re arrogant.
if I have food and someone else doesn\'t, it does not mean that I\'m better than them. it\' means that I was born into a better situation than they were. when I give them food, I am attempting to help them into a better situation, also, it wouldn\'t make me \"bad\" to keep the food for myself, as I am simply taking care of myself and my own.
the problem is with people who have a bad attitude about it. the \"I\'m better than you and there\'s nothing you can do about it.\" attitude does not win you friends, and can often get you scrawed pretty badly.

Either way, newbies won\'t really gain anything if they recieve gifts from veterans. These veterans reached veterancy even though they didn\'t get any presents as newbies. The newbies don\'t need gifts to survive.
Also, I\'ve seen too many MMO types that had their community going really bad because veterans kept giving newbies gifts. A newbie that recieves a gift once, and twice, is very likely to become a beggar. They go around expecting people to give them stuff. When they don\'t get it, they start being annoying.
Then, when veterans see that other veterans give things so willingly, they make new characters, and beg. Then they give all the gifts to their main char...
Gifts should be between friends, and that\'s it.

Forgot this thread wasn\'t about toilets. :P

There we go. That\'s a much more valid argument than \"Gift-giving is bragging\".
This happened and has been happening constantly in runescape. (People there are all 10-12 year olds. Bragging, rip offs, begging are all rampant. I think we can trust a community like this to be more mature. We also have /ignore.)
Thing is, you can\'t stop people from giving gifts...

1. Even if we can, the community won\'t always stay the way it is. People will come, people will go, there will be less and less people from the current community among the new ones. And we can\'t trust the new ones not to ruin everything.
2. Ignore is not a solution. Ignore can protect you from what the person says, not from what he do. Not only that, but it also helps you only against a single person. When there are hundreds of beggars, and most new players will probebly be beggars too, /ignore is useless.

well it would really suck if you realize your character didnt potty for a while, and you realize this during a fight :D :D
\"oh wait, mister monster, I need to pee really quick\"
\"Oh no problem +player_name+, use those bushes over there, take your time\"

It could be used to blind and confuse the foe :P

i give crystal\'s away all the time so i guess i\'m errogant.
NOT...... i am a nice person who will give something to some one else as long as they don\'t ask for it ..i do not give thing\'s to beggar\'s in fantasy or real life but if i see someone saying to themselve\'s *gee i only need 98 more crystal\'s then i can get that sword* well i will give them a diamond and ask them to pay it forward it\'s not errogance to do this it is passing on good will in the hope\'s that they in turn will pass it on and i personally think it is a good system...it does not work with everyone but it does with most.
i take offense at the remark that it is errogant to give when you have that to give. i have worked hard in my life for what i have it was not given to me and it is my good nature that give\'s not errogance.
and that\'s my two cent\'s :D
-
I wouldn\'t call that errogance, especially not if it\'s a loan...
But if you go around, see a newbie, and give him a dia, just like that... It\'s errogance, and it\'ll make him turn into a beggar (the former example might too, but it\'s not errogance, so it\'s not as bad)
-
I don\'t think giving newbie\'s stuf is bad.
but if player 1(lvl 100) gives a player 2 (lvl2) a lvl 80 armor, I think somtings wrong with player 1.
If he would give player 2 a lvl 2-3 armor i think its good.
-
the lvl 2 with lvl 80 armor is why I like armor capping
have you played DAoC, they have a capping system that basically makes armor more than a lvl or two over your own useless except for money.
-
Hmm that sounds good, not like runescape\'s system where you cant even put the armor on unless you are at a certain level...that was one of the stupidest ideas in that game...
-
well here is my input on the armor thing ...i am playing a hack n slash game right now called sacred (i don\'t play too many hack n slash but i needed something to do) anyway you can wear pretty much any armor you want that is in your class ( fighter has fighter armor wizard has robes that sort of thing ) but if you wear armor that is above your level it slow\'s your char down eg, if you are a 20 level fighter and you are wearing a 23 level armor your charecter\'s attack speed is slower than normal now this is the first time i have played a game with that kind of system and i thought it was cool because i could imagine my char wearing armor that was too heavy for him and it slowed him down ( i don\'t play too many hack n slash so if this is a common thing in these kind of game\'s forgive me for stating the obvious) :D
-
I can actually see why they would cap so you can\'t wear an armor too far above your own level at all
see there are a lot of gamers who don\'t realise this but lvl actually reflects a lot more on your character than is often emphasized... as a lvl one fighter, you have pretty much just passed your training, or squirehood, if you have even passed it. you are still fairly small and weak comparatively to your older peers.
now imagine a squire, small, weak, putting on the heavy leather padding, a chainmail hauberk, (which weighs about 150 lbs., I know from experience) and tops it off with a suit of platemail.
the poor guy wouldn\'t be able to move at all, and there is a possibility, although the leathers and chainmail protect him somewhat against it, that the plate would crush him.
the same suit of armor on a seasoned veteran barely even restricts his movements
I\'m a bit of a medievil history buff, I don\'t know everything about it, but medievil warfare has always intrigued me.
-
but see if the fighter put on armor that was too heavy it would slow down the reaction time (or attack speed) or make them stop moving alltogether (if it was too heavy) and that would be a learning experience for that person.
they would then know not to use that armor but they could also save it for when they are experienced enough to use it properly i just don\'t like it when you are playing a game and you find something that is for your chosen class but it is highlighted in red and you can\'t even try it on

multi-topic thread :D
ayone was reading armour skills descriptions?
Yea... should be enough ;)
