Will the release date for CB be reannounced or will I suddenly look on the news page to find it has been released?
Maybe they will surprise us.
I\'m leaning towards it being reannounced because they mention in the 2003.12.08 (http://www.planeshift.it/news_2003.html) news post that \"the new target date will be presented as soon as possible.\" I don\'t think that 4 months later is very soon, but they may have forgotten.
Anyone have any information on this?

The Dev team will not be announcing a release date to avoid giving us false hopes.
I would say do not hold your breath for CB. It\'s release is at the very least (that is to say if the Devs keep programming non-stop while high on coffee) it is still many weeks away.
When CB is finished, it will be released.
I hope this helps :)

Oh by the way you can keep yourself updated on the progress of CB (http://cvs.sourceforge.net/viewcvs.py/planeshift/planeshift/docs/history.txt?view=auto).
-
HEY just heard about why CB is so slow in the making unfortunatly they didn\'t give a date that it would be released, I thought maybe now they had some idea of the finish line , but i guess not (sigh, i was looking forward to it)
BTW karakth how do you join the Arcaneorder

I was wondering, will CB support Cal3D 1.9.1 (http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=26281&package_id=102474)?
That is, if I start making Characters or Animals for PS using This Manual (http://cal3d.sourceforge.net/modeling/tutorial.html) & they work with the Cal3D Miniviewer (http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=26281&package_id=102474) that it will work in CB & the dev team can consider putting it in the game? I didn\'t find much about it @ Laanx Wheel of Wishes (http://lww.demon-host.com/)

We are using the latest version of cal3d so it would be interesting for you to maybe create a small test model for us to test. Talad does have some notes on monster creation so may be good to contact him about 3d models. There maybe some tricks that you need to do. Anyways if you can create a simple model, upload it somewhere and I will check it out.

I think it would be best to be done like this:
The devs complete CB (nomatter when it is) and make it able for download.
Then they will make an announcement that from next week on the update to CB will be available.
That way we wont need to wait since CB is already complete and thus no more delais will occur.
Further everyone will know when the download starts so there wont be any advantages/disvantages between the people that check on the site every hour and the ones that visit is only once every so much time.
There is only 1 problem with this: the bandwith of the server. i dont know how much bandwith the devs have made for uploading updates, but if every1 starts downloading CB i think there will be huge traffic and high download times.
Tough with bittorent i think you could lower the delays a bit with this:
The devs all put there pc\'s on with bittorent so we can all download from their pc\'s (i believe this would be 10-20 computers or so at the start, later on you will be dowloading from other PS members as well) and let the server transfer as well. This would probably make the server laggy the first day/first week but after that everyone will have CB.
comments??

Bittorrent sounds like a good idea for about three days then put it on the usual server cause people dont leave their torrent windows on...
-
Maybe there never releasing CB, that they will just give us the next version.. or better the complete game 8)
maybe...
-
If they?re going to only release a version after CB I think they would just say it was ?Crystal Blue??

On downloading: Planeshift is hosted by SourceForge, which has multiple mirrors in major cities around the world. Bandwidth will not likely be a problem.
To DepthBlade: This is not merely another CB thread. I was asking for specific information regarding how it will be released. BTW I\'ve been in PS for a year, so don\'t complain :).
Some thoughts: A standard release procedure should be decided on so people in the community are not clueless. Since it is most likely not possible to put out new releases on a regular basis, I am just referring to how the process works. In the future, as said by the dev team, dates will not be announced, but there will still be the hype.

Just as an aside, does anyone else not see new news updates on the day they are released? Only today have I been able to see the link to \"the interview\" on the main news (http://www.planeshift.it/main_01.html) page. Is this just me, or does this happen to everyone? I\'ve never seen anywhere else to get news from, other than mailing list ( which I have not signed up to yet ).
The only reason I bring this up is that when it is released it might not show up on the news page? Although I guess there will be such a fuss that these forums will let me know quicker :)
I imagine sourceforge could cope, but a few BT\'s at the same time can\'t hurt.
I like the idea of a short delay between announcing CrystalBlue\'s ready for release and the actual release. Gives the devs time to sort out the databases and servers etc, and also time for people to prepare and spread the word ;)
-
Yeah there should definitly be a gap.

Try deleting your temporary (cough) internet files through the internet settings (If you use windows). Sometimes some browsers just load a previously downloaded page.... and you don\'t see any of the new stuff :)
