Title: So, what other MMORPGs have you played?
Post by: Barugon on April 26, 2004, 02:43:20 am
I\'ve played Ultima Online, Everquest, Asheron\'s Call (1 and 2) and I tried Dark Age of Camelot (for a short time).

What about you?

I\'ve played Asheron\'s call 2.

(PS I knew this was going to be moved from general discussion...)

Most of these are open Betas, and there\'s lots of them because they get boring too quickly.

Arianne
Monster & Me
Conquer Online
Fairyland
Savage Eden
Dragon Raja
Ragnarok Online
Saga of Ryzom

I used to play pristontale, but I got sick of it after a crack like addiction

plus the getting treated like scum for not being from the same country as the game :)

oh and the completely non existent english speaking mods/admin on the site and  in the game (really true a guy posted \"you know what, but by god you wish you didnt\" porn in the message boards to prove it)

I do plant to plax FFXI (final fantasy eleven) if anyone ever thinkds to release it over here in Australia (BWAHAHAHAH LIKE HELL!!!)
  thats me done :)

Lineage II looks interesting. How was it?

Oh, and thanks Mogura for cleaning this up. :)

Lineage II is more like a graphically stunning version of diablo.. not much gameplay wise imho..

as to mmorpg\'s I\'m currently playing Anarchy Online, I\'ve tried most major mmorpgs in beta, but Anarchy is the best :)

I couldn\'t leave my lvl205 doctor alone either :P

I play this only at the moment, I was doing Ragnarokonline before they decided to go p2p, I know you can still play it for free with the trial or probally starting your own server but blah id rather not get into it if i wasnt getting the full meal deal!
Title:
Post by: Davis on April 27, 2004, 01:28:08 am
Dark Ages is fun for the ten days you can play it for free. The combat system is very repetivite, though, so I doubt the interest would last much longer than 10 days anyway :P
Title:
Post by: Fanomatic2000 on April 27, 2004, 02:03:09 am
I played the 4\'th coming for some time, and it was fun (until I realized that it was PtP ;) )
I havn\'t played any PtP MMORPGs ever, so I don\'t know what I\'ve missed, but from what I\'ve seen most of them seem to be mindless hack n\' slash and RTS-like war-zones, which isn\'t my view of how a MMORPG should be like.

Nowdays I dwell at \"Battledale\" server in NWN. It may not be massive, but it\'s definitly RPG. :)

It really suprises me how many haven\'t tried Anarchy Online, I mean, at current, with the expansions \"The Notum Wars\", \"Shadow Lands\" and the upcoming \"Alien Invasion\" there\'s plenty of things to do as a new starter.

I played for about a year, but then quit, because of budget & time issues.. It\'s quite expensive with all the expansions atm.. But it\'s a kick ass MMORPG, even tough it\'s age.
Title:

I gave Anarchy online a go, (looong ago) not within my pricerange ATM (free or nothing)

currently however I am playing an OFFLINE ONLINE game, (confusled?) its that .hack\\\\infection game from bandai, it is so bizarre it \"feels\" like a MMORPG but its not...  I\'m really impressed, there was even a jerk  flooding \"hey hey hey hey hey hey hey hey hey etc...\"

kinda shows how similar all these games really are:P

I don\'t find it all that expensive compared to other mmorpgs (especially since it\'s the best one out there ;) ), the expansions are quite nice and to say I\'m looking forward to Alien Invasion would be an understatement :D :P

It\'s free for anyone who is willing to roleplay. The server is password-protected (to get rid of annoying newbies), so if you\'re interested you should visit their home-page here (http://www.Roleplaying-online.com) . There you will find the password for the server, and a lot of info about it as well.

However the server requires that you have both the expansion-packs installed on your computer, but if you truly enjoy roleplaying, it\'s definitly worth it.

Looks at dates on posts with one raised eyebrow. Ahh,  no matter, good topic anyways.

EQ (good game but $ony really sucks your wallet dry)
DAoC (Better PvP than EQ, but I did not like the PvE as well as EQ's)
Shadowbane (RIP, more of an experiment in human nature that a game I think.)
Blademistress (Yuck, bleck, when I think of bad games this one is at the top of the list)
Minions of Mirth ( Feels like it is still in its beta stage, but it is a MMORPG you can mod! very very cool)

My story is a bit different.

I am a Crewmember of a LARP-group called Vortex for 12 years now.
Not many people have heard about the term LARP i think, so
will explain it.
LARP means Live Action RolePlaying.
Instead of walking around in a game, you are really part of the game.
I can tell you, this is more then a hobby for the people who join.
Everyone makes his own clothes and items, except for weapons.
Weapons have to be bought from a special shop, because of the safety.
All weapons are made out of Latex combined with a solid core.
All weapons match the weapons from real life perfect.
They are identical in weight and look, so you can say it's a real copy of
a real weapon.
All weapons are also balanced perfect.
For example a real Claymore has weight of 12kg, so the latex Claymore
has also the weight of 12kg.
This is done, to make the fighting realistic.

and to give another example that LARP is more then a hobby.
Players pay about 1300-3000 euro for making they're own clothes.
There are players walking around with real handmade Chainmails
of 150 euro.
Players have to pay 150-600 euro for a Latex sword.
And everyone is paying for food, drinks, etc. with ingame money.
They have gold, silver and copper, that they bought with real money.

There are 3 major events a year and are taking place in a whole week each.
besides that there are 6 minor events taking place during a weekend.

A player spends about 1000 euro each event of a week only for playing,
eating, drinking, training skills and stats and handling weapons and shields.

As crewmember i look at they're safety and besides that i am a Game Master too.
And when i don't work, i join them in battle.
Vortex has 3500 active Larp-members.

any1 played Gunz the duel??
it will keep you amused for a while if you enjoy free 3d gun/sword fighting games :) (it is reasonably violent but there is no blood or gore)

it does have quite a few hackers unfortunately, but other than that it is quite fun.
Title: Re: So, what other MMORPGs have you played?
Post by: ThomPhoenix on May 21, 2006, 02:58:05 pm
You played Rose too Drey? I played Irose for some months, but then it was shut down. There was a new replacement: EUrose, but that was pay to play. EUrose had lots of problems and eventually the company behind it shut down. But now they're trying to transfer EUrose's database to Prose.

@ Tarel:
I didn't know LARP'ing communities that large existed  :o I always thought it was something some people did with some friends, but I didn't know there were groups with over 3000 people, with large events and such. Sounds like a cool hobby though  :)

Aaah, Xordan! Do you have too much money, or too much free time?
SWG is really expensive I've heard, Planetside seems cool. Did you like D&D? It was released not too long ago.
Do you still play Guildwars? I assume you have Prophecies? If so we could team up in FoW sometime once I have my Necromancer lvl'ed up  :-X
Title: Re: So, what other MMORPGs have you played?
Post by: Xordan on May 28, 2006, 02:25:50 am
I used to have too much time :)
I don't play any of them now. SWG was very very fun until the devs screwed it up. WoW got boring for me after about level 40. D&D:O is very different to most MMO's. It's like a single player game in multiplayer mode. I might re-suscribe once my exams are over. It was quite fun but takes up more time than usual because you can't solo. Planetside was too easy, Lineage 2 got boring :) Mu is just hack'n'slash and guild wars didn't appeal to me when I started playing. All of those except SWG/WoW/DDO/Mu I had a free trial for so I didn't pay anything :)

Err..Well kids, there was once this game called Rubies of Eventide. many a evil dwarf called it a everquest and WoW rip, and I totally agree, but it be fun.

So...
Rubies of Eventide
Planetside
Wow
Guildwars
Everquest(VERY short amount of time played, a 15 year olds pockets are dried quickly.)

Oh and I pwn people at Age of EMpires III online..not a MMORPG, but hey. This is a challenge to you, Valbrandr, unworthy scum, I challenge thee, in a match of AoE, where I shall make you pee your pants (in a respectable manner, of cource.)

*cough*
Back on topic...
Title: Re: So, what other MMORPGs have you played?
Post by: ThomPhoenix on May 28, 2006, 11:39:32 pm
@ Xordan:
Yeah, I heard about SWG being screwed up, everyone turned into a Jedi when they were made available and the game turned into an FPS/Arcade of some sorts. But they're trying to fix it I hear, maybe some day it'll be good again.

@ Robinmagus:
I play AoE 3 too, it's fun, though I must say Age of Mythology is much better gameplay/atmosphere wise, but maybe that's just me being a roman/greec mythological culture freak...  :whistling:
