Title: Stuck at Intializing World, and then timeouts
Post by: SaintNuclear on April 26, 2004, 04:37:33 am

This thing never happened to me, not even in the first time I loaded PS, wich makes it even more weird.
Everything worked just fine yesterday, then today I decided to try Aineko\'s mods.
When I tried logging into PS, it took an aweful lot of time in the Initializing World part, so I quit, ran the updater, and tried again. Still, it was stuck in that same place. I left it be, and after I checked back, PS was back in the main menu with the Connect window up, and there was a message that said that it timeouted.
I uninstalled, redownloaded, and reinstalled PS. Installed the mod again, and tried. Again, it\'s stuck in the Initializing World.
Removed the mod, checked. Stuck.

I was getting pissed off, it didn\'t make any sense, PS always worked for me fine (besides the occasional low FPS). I saw Talads thread, wich said that I should leave it like that for atleast two hours.
I reinstalled and ran the game at ~3am (gmt +3). At ~5am I checked the game again. Timed out.

This is really frustraiting... I\'m going to sleep soon, and haven\'t played PS even one bit today, and probebly won\'t tomorrow either (what a great way to spend this short vacation from work :( )

Time of test: 3am - 5am gmt +3
OS: Windows 2000 Service Pack 4
Processor: Intel Pentium 4 1.80GHz
RAM: 512MB
Video Card: GeForce 2
Video Card Memory: 64
PS Client Version: 0.2.010
OpenGL or Safe Mode: OpenGL (I tried Safe Mode a couple of times too, but I don\'t remmember exact time)

I\'ve had this problem twice (both times on Sunday mornings, oddly enough, but it usually resolves in the afternoon).
The thing that worked for me was just to wait.

I had the same problem yesterday after a pretty weird crash of psclient.exe.
I tried to log in for almost two hours (one connection attempt) but it did not want to work.
Logging in with my second char however worked fine, and I saw that my primary character was logged in, my client just did not seem to want to believe it.

After peeving everyone to tell me if they see \"Pogopuschel\" stand around anywhere and two mods kicking him for several times in order to resolve the problem we finally found him, standing in a place which what I believe is the border between two map parts.

Reinstalling the client/re-running the updater did not work for me either, finally I went to the IRC-channel and asked for a reset of my coordinates which helped at once. Perhaps you just have to do the same, although I\'m afraid that after my posting a lot of people will bother the people in the channel although their problem is just temporary. :(

Oru, that actually helped.... PS works for me now... :D

OT
Pogo, about the coordinates thing. I got a theory. When you connect to the server, you first load in a certain coordinate, and then in the process of loading, you\'re moved to the place you were last at.
That\'s why when you partially loaded you were there, and not where you were last time you logged out.
Something like that happened to me in another MMO. Only that my char was inside the planet itself o_O

Stupid as I am, I left my second char (Yyoruus) in rougly the same spot where Pogopuschel was stuck two days ago. Now Yyoruus is stuck :D
At least for me logins seem to become impossible when logging out between the fountain near the main road and the open gate there to the back alley :(

Hmm I had to dig this thread up again, because it has been 3 hours again in which I constantly tried to join, but always got stuck at \"initializing world\".
I know from previous occurances that my character is in the game and has loaded completely (so it seems), but the client just still displays the loading screen.

So basic questions are:
- What could be wrong, that this happens an awful lot recently?
- Who else has these problems and perhaps knows a workaround?

Computer Spex:
- 1.8+ Athlon XP
- 512 DDR RAM PC2100
- ATI Radeon 9600 PRO
- OS: W2k Pro SP2
- Keyboard, Mouse and Monitor: all available and connected :D
Title: It's happening for me.
Post by: Slicer on May 02, 2004, 07:06:44 pm
I have been trying to log onto Planeshift all day, and I keep getting stuck on \"Initializing World\" aswell, nothing is working, and after about 30mins of waiting it comes of with a Windows error box saying that PSclient.exe needs to close. This is realy getting on my nerves as nothing like this has ever happened to me since I d/l Planeshift, But it\'s obviously not just happening to me so what\'s going on to make so many people experiance this? Normally PS loads in 40 seconds for me.

PC specs:
-Windows XP
-AMD Athlon XP 2400+
-512MB RAM
-NVIDIA GeForce4 MX 440

Yes, exactly the same for me, except it is not 30mins but a varying amount of time when psclient.exe crashes. :(

I know, I\'m gonna create a new char just to see if I can log on with that account...
Title:
Post by: Uyaem on May 02, 2004, 07:21:20 pm
I tried with two accounts so far, no difference.
Title:
Post by: Slicer on May 02, 2004, 07:28:43 pm
yeah, no difference for me either, this is very annoying, I can\'t think why it is doing this (no post on my behalf since September 2003, and now 3 in 1 day, wow ;) )

Since they restarted the server earlier today ive gotten stuck on loading screen too :(
Title:
Post by: Ciry on May 02, 2004, 07:53:24 pm
Sigh  :( , the same happens to me today, when i logged out yesterday Ciry was in temple and today no more after \"Initializing world...\", then i tried with my second char that was in dungeons and it\'s worked fine, but later when i was running in temple server dropped my second char and when i tried to relog the same as my 1st char, no more, getting stuck on \"Initializing World\".....  ;(  ;(  ;(
This means that there are problem connecting while char is inside temple?
what we can do?
Someone can help?  :(
Title:
Post by: Slicer on May 02, 2004, 08:01:30 pm
Yes, me character was in the temple when I logged off yesturday and I haven\'t been able to get on with it, but also I tried creating a new character and that one had the same Initializing World problem. So it can\'t just be for chars in the temple...

No, my character was in town last time i quit...

yay, planeshift just started working again for me!! I\'m logged on currently.

Wooo, a flood!

Can I join?

I had the same problem today or yesterday too, I waited a few hours, and it was fine.

So the solution to the problem is... Patience.
Patience is pretty much the magic solution for everything in PS.
No combat? Have patience.
Can\'t log in? Patience...

I\'ve been experiencing similar problems.  (ie. can\'t get past the init world screen, severe lag)

Hopefully, they realize the problem and are trying to fix it.  Just have to wait I guess.

bleh... ;)
Al those \"flooders\" seem to have never had the problem before, so it could be something new. Don\'t you think it might be worth pointing it out? :)

Was logged in an hour ago, then my evil microsoft OS killed Psclient.exe. I restarted it and now im stuck at the intitializing world screen....again :P

[edit] 3 hours later: im still staring at the initialization screen :P [/edit]

I was just at the initializing world stage for about half an hour and then it went back to the \' create, back, connect \' screen.

After I clicked connect again, it showed the last time had an \'error\' and is back to initializing world. ....

Post by: Luze on May 06, 2004, 02:36:09 am
Well im on logged on right now and currently there are only 3-4 active players on (including myself). Things are very lonely here and besides the amount of cystals laying around, it has an odd feeling to the game with a lack of players.

*waits for people to make it online*

Anyway I hope what ever is wrong they will fix it and i would like to help and find out what was wrong. Currently what i think is causing this is the amount of crystals floating in the air. If you can tell me if you log on where you started at this will help me find out if it is the crystals.

I got a large fps drop just before XP killed my client. I managed to spawn before it gave me the \"illegal operations\" error. I think im sitting somewhere near the spawn....still cant log in :/

Post by: Mordaan on May 06, 2004, 02:45:37 am
I have never  had a problem getting on until now.  Sometimes longer initializing times than others but nothing like this.  I got on for a minute or 2 and it was a crystal bonanza!  Then I crashed and haven\'t been able to get back.  :(

Frustrating to know I could be rakin\' it in but can\'t get there.   X(

They made some sort of server migration on Apr 29...perhaps they should migrate back!
Title:
Post by: Mordaan on May 06, 2004, 02:50:21 am
Luze, I heard you say something about not going to the plaza because if you crash you won\'t make it back.  Well I was in the plaza at the time and tried to high-tail it out but crashed on the way and now, sure enough, I can\'t get back.

And what\'s with the b\'zillion crystals in the plaza?  Someone going crazy with crystal art or are those just old ones coming back?
Title:
Post by: Luze on May 06, 2004, 02:51:03 am
(To Elkindel: I saw you try to log on... you were in the plaza.) Currently those online say they were in the dungeon, so i think its safe to say if you were in the dungeon you can probably log on. *For those that log on try to stay out of the plaza, or stay there in a very small amount of time*
Title:
Post by: Luze on May 06, 2004, 02:54:08 am
Im not sure I havent been on for a few days... all I can tell is that it is new to me. I would say that there are around 300 crystals there.

I think I might be able to log on if I switched to the podium..... but I couldnt go anywhere from there...well, id be able to chat anyhow :P

[edit] nope, cant log in with the podium map loaded either [/edit]

Post by: Zetsumei on May 06, 2004, 03:26:27 am
I\'m having the same problem.  I get stuck at the loading screen, and then I get a timeout error.  I tried it with all of my alts, which are spread all over the world, and I still couldn\'t get it.  I tried creating a new character, and I still couldn\'t do it.  I waited for awhile, and I still couldn\'t do it.  So, I\'m just kinda stuck waiting for PS to let me in.

And just out of curiousity, what do you think is causing all of us to have this problem?
Title:
Post by: Luze on May 06, 2004, 03:33:05 am
Well Zet i doubt that any of the new players can get in because they spawn at the Plaza (Also i found out that there is also crystal art inside the temple this may cause the crashes too.) My current idea of what the problem is the amount of crystals laying around.
Title:
Post by: Mordaan on May 06, 2004, 03:35:20 am
Seems the server has been particularly funky ever since they did something on Apr 29.  A phase of some sort of migration.

At the moment, here are lots of airborne crystals at the plaza.  Could be causing some problems.

Could be anything, really, but I would start there.

[edit]: nevermind...it was the crystals

All those crystals and Zetsumei and I are frozen out.  The irony!  *shudders*

So,a new character can\'t be able to log in?
I\'m stuck too at initializing world,it\'s my first char....
Hope this will be a temporary problem  :( ,i\'d like to try PS.
Title:
Post by: Mordaan on May 06, 2004, 04:45:45 am
Yeah, sorry Darkshine.  Just bad timing on your part.  This is definitely not a normal night.

Now my main character (my only char until an hour or two ago) is stuck in the world.  Everytime I try to log in as Mordaan, it says I am already logged in.   Even after two hours.  :(

I have heard this happen before to others, moreso lately.  Hopefully it will be resolved before tomorrow.  Maybe we can get a server reset?

Well, this too is my first time trying PS and another thing has occurred. ..

While initialising, the screen has gone fuzzy with colours ( like a bad myriad of pixels).

When I messed around with the setup configs, I tried it with \'Software\' render and it worked but it didnt look as good as OPENGL so I switched back, only now every time I run it, the screen goes totally back.

I don\'t think I have finished the first  2 hour or so first time initialisation.

Has anyone got any ideas on this?
Title:
Post by: Mordaan on May 06, 2004, 05:05:00 am
Starting black or with strange colors is actually kind of common.  Let it be for a few minutes, it usually clears up.
Title:
Post by: Murakin on May 06, 2004, 05:15:35 am
Hmmmm, Ok, thanks for the reassurance.

I have let it continue as my cpu says it is still running around at %50 for about 20 minutes, but still no sign of making it through. ...

I guess it is just the bad timing on my part.

Btw, I have read on other posts that some people took about  10 minutes for the first time.

Does it then depend on the computer specs of the people starting up?

I run a :

P4 2.4gh
512 Ram
Radeon 9600 pro
Cable connection from Australia

I don\'t think the rest matters much. .....I have more than enough HD space.

I was just wondering if maybe I don\'t need to wait too long either.

Quote
512 Ram
Radeon 9600 pro

 8o   That\'s precisely what I have, only a 9200

And things usually run very smooth for me-and very little lag.   Lots of crashes and server kicks but I think its the same for everyone.  This is just a bad server night.   Try again tomorrow.

Ah well,

In the meantime, I have been looking at some of the pics and it looks very good indeed.

Hope to see you all there.

Title: Crystal Art Kills
Post by: Kayden on May 06, 2004, 08:54:06 am
This was due to the massive amounts of crystal art in the sky, which I have removed.

I made the following observations:
(1) No characters who were in the temple or near the plaza could log on. These were by the crystals. However, characters in the depths of the dungeons or far away from the crystals had no trouble at all.

(2) The very last message in the client\'s debug log (displayed on stdout or stderr under linux) discussed ruby crystals before giving a cel error and then a lot of \"Sending heartbeat\" messages.

(3) There are around 200-250 spawn points in the entire world, according to my estimates. Yet there were around 350 crystals from the art floating in one area...in addition to the crystals normally there.

(4) Wedge had said that extra crystals cause lag, and Luze was suspecting the crystals as well.

(5) Some people said they had been having issues ever since the dog and cat were placed in the sky.

So I summoned up my last two characters, the only two that could manage to log on, around 684 crates, and set to work. There were only around 2-4 people actively talking, and the rest of the clients didn\'t seem to move.

By the time I had removed Jehoel\'s \"EE FLOATS MY GOAT\" (125 rubies), more people showed up and more started moving about and talking.

Eventually I managed to take down Psybur\'s dog (122 rubies), and Luze\'s cat (100 rubies); another modder managed to take down floating emeralds and Psybur\'s \"PSY\" in the temple...

And then, everyone started showing up again, able to move and talk. At last.

I returned all of Psybur, Luze, and Jehoel\'s crystals to them, keeping none for myself. I am no thief.

It took me several hours to do this.

So my conclusion is thus: Crystal art kills - Molecular Blue simply cannot handle the load. Don\'t do it. If you do crystal art, do it on the ground in the green hills far from town, and only for limited amounts of time - like for a birthday present.

Glad to have everyone back. I just hope none of that stuff comes back again.

Hi! I\'m new to Plane Shift: Molecular Blue and I\'m having problems connecting. I got stuck in \"Initializing World\". I thought you guys already fixed it so I wasn\'t worried a bit to try it. I\'m using S3 Graphics ProSavage DDR, my OS is WinXP and my connection is broadband.

Have you read this thread and tried any solutions to the problem? Have you tried waiting the recommended 2 hours for your first connection?

Well, as long as the program hasn\'t disappeared from your screen, it hasn\'t crashed. Remember, don\'t let anything disturb it. Don\'t click, alt+tab, look at task manager, let a screensaver appear, or let your computer go on standby/powersaving modes.

I\'m not saying all of those are necessary, but they are all things that could interrupt, so to be absolutely sure you have a problem, please try avoiding those first.

I am looking for a slightly more useful reply here. I can\'t see your screen, so I don\'t know what you did unless you tell me. I\'m not there to point at the monitor for you.

Now, I\'ll assume that you mean this: You ran the game, it started Initialising World, and then it crashed. Ya?

In this case I would advise downloading the new run_me_first.bat file (located here (http://www.planeshift3d.com/wbboard/thread.php?threadid=8266&boardid=17&styleid=3)) and using it to make sure none of your .part files were corrupted when you installed the game. If they are all ok, try running the game in Slow mode, rebooting, reinstalling, making sure all your drivers are up to date, and that your hardware is capable of running the game.

Minimum specs that I would personally recommend anyone are 500mhz, 216mb RAM, and a graphics card with at least 64mb.
